NHTSA crash tests

The agency crash-tested this model year itself. These are its own photographs and star ratings.

These stars come from the pre-2011 crash test programme. NHTSA rebuilt the programme for the 2011 model year and states that ratings either side of that change are not comparable — so do not read these against a 2011-or-newer car's stars.

A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing out on schedule across the whole fleet — the kind of pattern no single owner can see from inside their own car.

NHTSA investigations into the 2010 Jeep Liberty

An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Electrical overstress

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation to determine if the failure of airbags to deploy during severe crashes, in certain vehicles, was the result of a safety related defect.  During the investigation a complex failure was studied that can result in non-deployment of subject vehicle air bags and other restraint system devices in severe crash events. The subject vehicles may be equipped with an airbag control unit (ACU) for the supplemental restraint system (SRS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) manufactured by ZF-TRW.  The ECU receives signals from crash sensors mount...

The petitioner alleges that TIPM defects may result in engine stall, airbag non-deployment, failure of fuel pump shutoff resulting in unintended acceleration, fire, and other symptoms. Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2010223 3,481 units in Canada

Brakes

Certain vehicles may have an improperly formed master cylinder to hydraulic control unit brake tube assembly end-flare that could lead to a loss of brake fluid and reduced braking performance. This could increase stopping distances, possibly resulting in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the suspect brake tubes.

Recall 2010009 3,514 units in Canada

Brakes

On certain vehicles, the brake booster input rod may have been installed without the retaining clip, or in some cases, with an improperly formed retaining clip. Should the input rod separate from the assembly it could lead to a loss of brakes, which could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will install or replace the retaining clips.

Airbag light goes on and off. Is not throwing a code on advanced scan tool. Also at times does not recognize the key has been removed from the ignition, and that appears to be a fault with the ignition key pin in the housing which Chrysler wants $1,000 or more to replace the ends tire steering column. What the hell do y'all guys even do because these problems exist all over the internet. Do y'all get kickbacks or make deals with the car companies because it seems not have to do anything with the safety of the equipment that is being sold.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHES (CRITICAL ERROR - CYLINDER MISFIRE) AND MY CAR VIBRATES/SHAKES WHENEVER I ACCELERATE OR GO UP ANY INCLINE ON A HIGHWAY. I WENT TO SEE A CERTIFIED MECHANIC TODAY (IN MICHIGAN) AND THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE 3.7L ENGINE HAS A DESIGN FLAW THAT ALLOWS A LARGE AMOUNT OF CARBON BUILDUP IN THE CYLINDERS, WHICH LEADS TO MISFIRE ISSUES. IT WILL COST OVER $2,000 TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE (12 HOURS WORTH OF WORK - THEY HAVE TO TAKE APART THE CYLINDERS AND WHOLE IGNITION/INTAKE SYSTEM, CLEAN THE PARTS, AND REPLACE GASKETS). THE MECHANIC SAYS THAT MY CAR IS NO LONGER SAFE FOR HIGHWAY DRIVING AND CAN BREAK DOWN AT ANY TIME. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 104,000 MILES. ROLLOVER PROTECTION VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK HAS FAILED AND GAS POURS OUT OF THE FILLER NECK WHEN FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL. AFTER THE PUMP SHUTS OFF, FUEL POURS OUT OF THE FILLER NECK AND ONTO THE PERSON FUELING THE VEHICLE. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT IS BEING REPAIRED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS BUT NOT THE 2010 MODEL YEAR, EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME ISSUE.
