1. Severe Safety Concerns (Battery Thermal Risk & Component Interdependency) The PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) heater in my vehicle has failed. This component failure has completely disabled my vehicle’s air conditioning (AC) system. In the Kia EV6 architecture, the AC compressor loop is not merely a cabin comfort feature; it is intrinsically linked to the vehicle's thermal management system responsible for cooling the high-voltage traction battery pack. California temperatures are projected to hit 110°F immediately. Without a functioning AC system, the vehicle cannot execute critical battery cooling procedures. Yesterday, when plugging the vehicle into a charger, the high-voltage battery became alarmingly hot. Forcing a lithium-ion battery pack to accept high-current DC fast charging without operational coolant loop heat rejection poses an immediate, catastrophic risk of thermal runaway and vehicle fire. I am terrified to operate, park, or charge this vehicle in upcoming extreme summer conditions. 2. Predatory Maintenance Plan Tie-In Offer Yesterday, the dealership called and acknowledged the issue. They offered to cover 70% of the diagnostic and repair labor costs under corporate goodwill, as I am technically out of the standard warranty period. However, they applied an unfair and coercive condition: I am only eligible for this safety assistance if I purchase a mandatory 2-year maintenance contract costing $120 per month (totaling $2,880 over 24 months). Because the EV6 is a fully electric vehicle, its routine maintenance profile is virtually nonexistent. The dealership explicitly stated that this contract would exclusively cover tire rotations. Charging nearly $3,000 for tire rotations as a gatekeeping mechanism to fix a dangerous battery cooling defect is highly exploitative. The cost of this forced maintenance plan essentially equals or exceeds paying for the entire repair out-of-pocket, rendering the "70% goodwill coverage" an empty gesture.

My car was / is one of thousands of Kia cars based on the eGMP platform to experience an ICCU failure. This is believed to be a design issue. While the repair was covered, reports indicate that the problem is not solved and will re-occur in time.

Perhaps 1 year into owning this car the apple carplay connection started going in and out-- it takes perhaps 10 to 15 seconds for it to start working again. I've tried different phones and cords. This issue is getting worse, sometimes 6 times in a 20 minute drive. Now it goes out very frequently (though it is rare in the mornings for some reason). I have brought the car into a dealership and they cannot find any issue with the car. At the recommendation of the dealership I switched the cord to an official apple cord, but when I did this the connection would be lost and I'd have to reach down, disconnect the cord, and reconnect it to get the screen to come back on-- I have since switched back to an Anker cord. There have been many drivers with the same EV6 reporting this issue in Kia FB groups. Now that the car is about 4 years old, it happens very frequently (one time 6 times in a 10 minute span). The safety issue comes in as one, some people may be reaching to disconnect and reconnect their cord while driving, which can be a distraction and may lead to increase in accidents, two, if someone is on a call they may disconnect the cord and switch to speaker, which again is a distraction, and three, I have also been using the navigation system through the carplay, and when the map goes out my turn is going up it can cause me to hesitate on whether to turn or not (and perhaps if the screen comes on at the last minute, make a quick turn, which can increase risk of collision).

The AC charging for this car stopped working around [XXX]. After 3 trips to the dealership for repair I brought it back a 4th time and because the dealership was unable to repair it they gave me a loaner to use while they tried to figure out the problem. During this time they removed the entire battery from the car, dropped the suspension, experienced the car not being able to go into gear (reverse or drive), not hold a charge etc. The car has been 100% inoperable since [XXX]. Today, 01/27/26 the dealership phoned to let me know that a regional Kia technician came by and realized there was just one screw that needed to be tightened and now the car works perfectly and I can come pick up my car and bring the loaner back. There is no way I would ever feel safe driving that car again. Kia America offered me a buy back with the condition that I pay them $9,350 in depreciation. After charging vehicle using L2 charger, (max 7kw) vehicle threw two error messages on screen. 1) “check electrical system” & 2) “stop vehicle and check power supply” Using an OBDII reader, the car provided error code P1A9096. I also noticed the car stopped charging the 12V battery as the 12V state of charge was down to 22%. I towed it to the dealer and they are currently working on diagnosing the issue.

On [XXX], I pulled into a parking space, and the car suddenly accelerated, jumped the curb, and hit the building. This is the second time this happened. It happened when I was parking in May 2022; the car suddenly accelerated and struck a fence. In all my time driving this car, I have never had an issue breaking or parking. There was an immediate surge in both cases, and I am confident that my foot was on the break. In both cases, I did not get any collision warning from the car or emergency braking. I know from experience driving this car that when the vehicle /system determined I was too close to something of danger, I would get a collision warning and an immediate breaking by the vehicle. I reported the issue to the KIA dealership for the first time and wrote a report; they said they had not heard of the problem but would note it. If there had been a person walking when this happened, I am sure serious, if not fatal injuries would be occur. Brought in vehicle to complete safety recall SC327 per letter that was received. When I got to the dealership, they advised me that it was completed on 1/9/2025 at the dealer that I purchased the vehicle from. This is not the case as I purchased the vehicle in Indiana but I live in Michigan, this was my first dealership visit since purchasing the car. When the technician checked the car, they found that it was not updated for SC327.

I purchased my car 08/08/2022, my car stopped charging by June 2023. I took it to the shop and was told, it was my charger. In August of 2023, I was told it was the ICCU. From 06/2023-12/07/2024, I had a total of 9 recalls on this car. Kia did not notify me at all for any recall with the exception of the second one that occurred in December of 2024 (the 9th recall). Some of the recalls I found online when my car failed to charge, one my insurance company notified me of and others I found out when I had other issues with my car.

I recently experienced a serious safety issue with my less than 3-year-old Kia EV6. The 12-volt battery unexpectedly failed, rendering the vehicle inoperable, including the doors. This occurred twice: once while the battery was still under warranty, and again after the warranty expired. The second failure left my wife and daughter stranded in a dark parking lot at night. Despite numerous online reports of similar incidents, Kia refused to replace the battery under warranty, citing the mileage. This is a significant safety concern, as a failed battery can leave drivers stranded in dangerous situations. I contacted Kia corporate to request compensation for the replacement battery, but they declined. I believe Kia should take responsibility for this widespread issue and replace these defective batteries at no cost to consumers.

Several months ago, a bit of road debris hit the front grill and broke a piece off. Soon after that I began receiving messages of 'check vehicle electrical system', 'active air flap warning', and another that at this point I do not recall. The overall repair cost nearly $6,000. An employee at Emich Kia reported that there were two other 2022 Kia EV6 cars that came in for the same repair. The employees exact words, "This is a design flaw that they have fixed for the newer models." I am reporting this because I also believe that it is a design flaw. Why put so much plastic on the lower front grill that can be easily broken?

I continually have issues with the car not charging. I have taken it to the dealership and they "update the software" but I continue to have issues where my car only charges 10-15% at a time and continues to give me an alert "charge interrupted" but it does not tell me WHY the charge has been interrupted. I will set it to charge overnight but then wake up ready to go to work and my car only has 20% charge and I can't make my commute. I've had the same problem at public chargers. However, my partner has an electric Ford Mustang and his car has had no problems charging at home. I would say for the first 9 months of ownership this was not a problem with my EV6 it only began in the last 3-4 months but it happens almost every time I plug in.

During Level 2, 48 amp charging the car continually stops and starts charging roughly every five minutes. After contacting the charging maker, their diagnostic showed nothing wrong with the charger or incoming power, and that the car was stopping the charge. My Kia dealer states it is a problem with the onboard charger. However, Kia support doesn’t seem to acknowledge it. I have seen multiple reports of this is happening including a potential lawsuit, so I’m reporting this as an issue as well.

After five months of flawless at home charging, sessions failed and charging sessions were shut down by car. Took EV6 in to local Kia dealer service which couldn’t find any issues with car or charging systems. Dealer recommended electrician investigate our home set up which all checked out fine. To rule out all possibilities, we decided to replace our at home charger and purchased third party system from dealer. This worked for about a month and charging failed again during a session this morning. Called Kia who said no recalls or campaigns on car.

On June 3, 2023 I found out that my EV6 was no longer charging, and that I could not open my doors or my trunk with my key fob. Nor could I start the engine. It turned out that my 12v battery was drained. As I never left my headlights or doors open overnight, I had no clue why the 12v battery was suddenly inoperable. I called AAA roadside assistance to have my 12v battery jumped. On June 4, 2023 my 12v battery had drained again, and I had to call AAA roadside assistance once more to have my 12v battery jumped. The earliest I could take my car in to the dealership for warranty-covered repairs was June 14. There, I was advised of the issues regarding the integrated charge control unit (ICCU). The dealership could not tell me when the part would arrive so they could replace it. I am currently using a rental car provided by the KIA dealership. Until the ICCU is replaced, I fear my EV6 could stop in traffic and leave me vulnerable to danger.

I have owned Kia EV6 since June 2022, the problem started in October and still have not been corrected. I encounter a problem with charging the vehicle at Level 2 charger of 40 AMP or higher. When charging at home Level 2, the vehcle send me email stating the charging has been interrupted. I have check the Kia forums and found that many other owner also have this issued. Currently, I have taken my vehicle to the dealership once and they states that there was no issued. After taking the vehicle home, at start to charge my vehicle the next day, the problem occurred again. I took the vehicle back last week and after 3 days that told me my vehicle was fixed. As i was going to the shop to pick up my vehicle, I got email notification again and I have show it to them that the problem has not be solved. The label does stated that we can used the charger up to 48 AMP. I have tested with different charger at different location and the problem is still the same. I will like NHTSA to look into this issue as this creates problem for car ownership of this type of vehicle.

Hyundai Motor Group misrepresented a key feature of two new electric vehicles. The models affected are the '22 Kia EV6 and the '22 Hyundai Ioniq 5. Both were advertised to charge from 10% to 80% of battery capacity in eighteen minutes at DCFC chargers. This is done with a feature called battery preconditioning which heats or cools a battery to optimum temperature for rapid charging at DCFC chargers and is necessary for the fastest charging speed when charging a car in cold conditions. The feature is now available via a software update issued in Europe and recently for Ioniq 5 owners in North America. To date they have not offered the update for Kia EV6 owners in the US. This feature is available as mentioned via a software update for early '22 Ioniq 5 models in the USA and became standard on '22 EV6 and Ioniq 5 vehicles built after July '22. It is now standard on all '23 models of both cars. Both these vehicles have a feature called Winter Mode that the Owner's Manual states will heat the battery for charging. However, this is not the same as battery preconditioning. Owners were led to believe that Winter Mode would condition a cold battery to facilitate rapid charging because the Manual and Kia's own press releases made this implication. What is known now is that it does not heat enough. The manufacturers developed a software fix but chose to release it first in Europe and more recently to Ioniq 5 owners in the US but have thus far excluded EV6 owners of '22 models purchased earlier in the year. Kia advertises being able to charge the vehicle from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes. The fine print of the claim states that this is under ideal conditions; Winter Mode was supposed to create those conditions. It does not and constitutes false advertisement. Without preconditioning, charging can take over an hour on a cold day, nowhere close to meeting the advertised claim. EV6 owners want Kia to release the battery preconditioning update to all early '22 EV6 cars in the US.

I had driven the car for about 80 miles on a mix of urban expressway, parkway, and city streets, when inexplicably the "frunk lid" (or hood) released itself from the fully closed position to the "ajar" position. That is the position that the lid would assume if you pulled the inside release. To open fully, one must manually release the "safety catch," after which it would open fully. As soon as the lid moved from fully closed to slightly open, a warning symbol appeared on the dashboard accompanied by a frenzied warning chime. I was in traffic and stopped as soon as it was safe to do so, about a quarter mile or possibly a half mile ahead. During this time the vehicle seemed sluggish. Just before the stop, my passenger pointed out that the relatively small and discreet "Parking Brake" warning was also illuminated. Right after I stopped, I shut the lid as I normally would, and it stayed shut. Then my attention was drawn to the rear of the car, where light smoke was emanating from the wheels and a "burning rubber" odor was prominent. The brakes had become very hot from my short drive seeking a safe place to stop. I believe it is unsafe to have a vehicle apply the parking brake on its own with no way to release the parking brake without stopping. I believe that if the vehicle had applied the parking brake on its own at speed on an ice- or snow-covered road, or possibly even on a wet road, the rear tires would have locked up, causing the vehicle to enter an uncontrollable spin. I believe that if the vehicle had applied the parking brake on its own on a long downhill mountainous road without a nearby safe stopping location, the extreme heat generated could cause serious damage to the vehicle. The vehicle is scheduled to be inspected by a dealer tomorrow. At the moment it seems to operate normally, but note that itis an electric vehicle, and almost all of the braking activity is performed by regenerative braking and not using mechanical brakes.
