NHTSA crash tests

The agency crash-tested this model year itself. These are its own photographs and star ratings.

These stars come from the pre-2011 crash test programme. NHTSA rebuilt the programme for the 2011 model year and states that ratings either side of that change are not comparable — so do not read these against a 2011-or-newer car's stars.

When owners complained

A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing out on schedule across the whole fleet — the kind of pattern no single owner can see from inside their own car.

Recalls on the 2008 Nissan Armada

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2008-2011 Titan, Frontier, Xterra, Pathfinder, Armada, and 2008-2009 Quest vehicles. The resin emblem on the driver's air bag cover may develop cracks and detach during air bag deployment.

Risk: A detached emblem can become a projectile during air bag deployment, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.

10V349000

AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW

NISSAN IS RECALLING MODEL YEAR 2008 NISSAN ARMADA AND INFINITI QX56 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM FEBRUARY 7, 2007 THROUGH FEBRUARY 14, 2007. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 201, "PROTECTION IN INTERIOR IMPACT." AN OUT-OF-SPECIFICATION A-PILLAR FINISHER MIGHT IMPEDE THE CORRECT INFLATION OF THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG NEAR THE UPPER PORTION OF THE B-PILLAR.

Risk: INCORRECT INFLATION OF THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO A VEHICLE OCCUPANT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH REQUIRING DEPLOYMENT OF THAT AIR BAG.

10E019000

SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER ARM

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN FRONT AND REAR LOWER LINKS, P/NOS. 54501ZQ00A, 54500ZQ00A, 551A1ZQ00A, 551A0ZQ00A , 54501EA00A, 54500EA00A, 551A1EA500, 551A0EA500, 54501ZR00A, AND 54500ZR00A, SOLD BETWEEN NOVEMBER 25, 2009 AND MAY 14, 2010 AS REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR MODEL YEAR 2004 THROUGH 2010 TITAN, ARMADA, AND QX56, AND MODEL YEARS 2005 THROUGH 2010 FRONTIER, XTERRA, AND PATHFINDER VEHICLES. THE LOWER CONTROL LINK ASSEMBLY HAS TWO CYLINDRICAL COLLARS FORMING THE INBOARD ATTACHMENT POINTS TO THE CHASSIS. DUE TO AN IMPROPER WELDING PROCESS SOME COLLARS MAY CONTAIN WELDS THAT DO NOT MEET STRENGTH SPECIFICATIONS.

Risk: IF THE COLLAR WELD SEPARATES, THE VEHICLE HANDLING WILL DETERIORATE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

10V074000

FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:STORAGE:FUEL GAUGE SYSTEM

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2009 TITAN, ARMADA, AND INFINITI QX56 VEHICLES. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE MAY INACCURATELY DISPLAY THAT THE VEHICLE STILL HAS SOME FUEL, TYPICALLY ABOUT ONE QUARTER TANK, WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS EMPTY.

Risk: THIS COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS AND STALL ON THE HIGHWAY, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH.

10V072000

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:PEDALS AND LINKAGES

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 TITAN, ARMADA, AND INFINITI QX56, AND MODEL YEAR 2008-2009 NISSAN QUEST VEHICLES. THE BRAKE PEDAL PIVOT PIN END WAS NOT SPIN-FORMED TO SPECIFICATION DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF THE BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY. THE PIVOT PIN COULD SLIDE AND CAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PARTIALLY DISENGAGE FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL BRACKET.

Risk: THE DRIVER WILL EXPERIENCE UNUSUAL AND NOTICEABLE LOOSENESS IN THE PEDAL AND A REDUCTION IN BRAKING FORCE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

08V187000

SEATS

THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 207, "SEATING SYSTEMS." THE SEAT TRACK ASSEMBLY MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED OUT OF SPECIFICATION.

Risk: THIS MAY RESULT IN THE MANUAL SEAT PAWL NOT FULLY ENGAGING INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURIES IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.

07V449000

SEAT BELTS:REAR/OTHER

CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 210, 'SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY ANCHORAGES.' THE DRIVER'S SIDE THIRD ROW SEAT BELT UPPER ANCHOR BRACKET MAY BE CRACKED.

Risk: IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, A SEAT OCCUPANT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY RESTRAINED INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY.

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2023053 10,846 units in Canada

Airbag

Issue: On certain vehicles, the plastic emblem on the steering wheel airbag cover could detach and become a projectile when the airbag inflates in a crash. Note: This recall is for certain vehicles that had the steering wheel airbag replaced. Safety Risk: Projectiles in the occupant compartment could increase the risk of an injury. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering wheel airbag cover.

Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering wheel airbag cover.

Recall 2012156 4,885 units in Canada

Label

Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 210.1 - User-ready Tether Anchorages for Restraint Systems. Specifically, the pictograms identifying the location of the tether anchors measure 15 mm in height instead of 20 mm as required by the Standard. Correction: Since this non-compliance condition does not pose any safety risk, no corrective action is required.

Recall 2010062 6,246 units in Canada

Brakes

On certain vehicles, the brake pedal pivot pin end was not properly manufactured. As a result, the pin may not remain in place, causing the brake pedal to partially disengage from the brake pedal bracket. If this occurs, the driver will experience unusual and noticeable looseness in the pedal and a reduction in braking force. A reduction in braking force may lead to increased stopping distances and the risk of a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Owners of all potentially affected vehicles will be contacted and their brake pedal assembly will be inspected and replaced if necessary.

Recall 2010060 8,681 units in Canada

Fuel System

On certain vehicles, the material used on fuel level sending unit contacts can wear and contaminate the sender. This causes the instrument panel fuel gauge to display that the vehicle still has some fuel left in the tank when the fuel tank is empty. An inaccurate fuel gauge can lead to engine stalling while driving, which may increase the risk of a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Letters will be sent to owners in two stages. The first letter will advise owners of fuel gauge inaccuracy and recommend maintaining a fuel level above the one half position. The second letter will follow, requesting owners bring their vehicles to a dealer for replacement of the fuel sender unit.

Recall 2007311 17 units in Canada

Seats And Restraints

On certain vehicles, the third row left outboard seat belt shoulder harness anchor may fail to comply with strength requirements of CMVSS 210. As a result, the seat belt may not properly restrain seat occupants during a vehicle crash, increasing the risk of personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will replace the 3rd row left outboard seat belt shoulder harness anchor.

Recalls cover specific build ranges, so check your own vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or, in Canada, Transport Canada.

While driving, the unit that houses the TV and stereo and air vents (center console on roof) decided to break and fall on my child who was in her car seat, almost resulting in me crashing my vehicle. This is a hazard alone. Due to the poor design of this center console, there is no way to repair this piece. It has to be replaced with the same faulty piece, which will eventually break again due to it not being able to sustain the weight. This happened to me at about 78,000 miles. I had to remove the center console.

MY 2008 NISSAN ARMADA 'S INTERIOR ROOF CONSOLE FELL ON TOP OF MY CHILDREN AND THEIR FRIEND'S HEAD WITHOUT WARNING. THIS POSED AN IMMEDIATE SAFETY HAZARD FOR MY CHILDREN AS WELL AS ME. AFTER PICKING UP MY DAUGHTER AND HER FRIEND FROM PRACTICE, THE INTERIOR ROOF CONSOLE COMPLETELY FELL ON TOP OF THEM. WE WERE ALL SO SCARED. WHEN I HEARD THE LOUD NOISE, I LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND WASN'T SURE WHAT HAPPENED. AT FIRST I THOUGHT WE SOMEHOW WERE HIT BUT I QUICKLY REALIZED THAT IT WAS THE CONSOLE THAT FELL. MY REAR VIEW WAS COMPLETELY OBSTRUCTED. THE CONSOLE HIT TWO OF THEM ON TOP OF THE HEAD AND THEY WERE IN THE MIDDLE ROW. IT ALSO HIT MY 6 YEAR OLD ON THE TOP OF THE HEAD WHO WAS IN THE BACK ROW. THEY HAD TO HOLD IT UP UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY STOP . IT WAS HANGING BY THE ELECTRICAL WIRES FOR THE LIGHTS AND DVD PLAYER. I TOOK PICTURES AND CALLED THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHICH NEVER RETURNED ANY OF MY PHONE CALLS. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT FOR A POORLY MANUFACTURED CONSOLE. IT'S MADE OUT OF PLASTIC AND SHOULD BE BOLTED TO THE ROOF WITH METAL SCREWS. THIS IS THE 4TH NISSAN THAT I HAVE OWNED AND SADLY I DOUBT THAT I WILL OWN ANOTHER UNLESS THIS SAFETY ISSUES IS RESOLVED. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER FOR 10 YEARS AND INTRODUCED 5 FAMILIES TO THE NISSAN FAMILY AND IF THIS SAFETY ISSUE ISN'T RESOLVED AT NISSAN EXPENSE, I WILL BE LEAVING.

STRUCTURE

THIS IS MY SECOND COMPLAINT REGARDING THE OVERHEAD CONSOLE IN MY 2008 NISSAN ARMADA. INITIALLY I RAISED CONCERN ABOUT THE CONSOLE BEING LOOSE. THIS MORNING THE OVERHEAD CONSOLE FELL ONTO MY CHILD.I CONTACTED NISSAN ABOUT WHY NO RECALL WAS NEVER ISSUED WHEN THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I'VE GOTTEN THE RUNAROUND FROM THEM. I TOOK MY ARMADA TO THE DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING TO REPAIR THE CONSOLE. I WAS TOLD THERE IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE. THE CONSOLE IS SECURED BY PLASTIC BRACKETS THAT EVENTUALLY BREAK. THE CONSOLE CANNOT BE REPAIRED, ONLY REPLACED. TO REPLACE THE CONSOLE IS $2900. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR NISSAN'S USE OF SUBPAR PARTS. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED TO ADDRESS THIS. FORTUNATELY MY CHILD WAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED.

THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT ADJUSTER MOTOR CAUGHT THE UNDER SIDE OF THE SEAT ON FIRE WHILE NO ONE TOUCHED THE SEAT ADJUSTER. FOR SOME REASON THE ADJUSTER MOTOR HEATED UP AND WHEN MY WIFE, CHILD, AND MOTHER HAD TO PULL OFF OF THE INTERSTATE DUE TO SMOKE, I WAS LUCKILY BEHIND THEM AND GOT THE FAMILY OUT OF THE CAR AND THEN LOOKED UNDER THE SEAT AND SAW 3 INCH FLAMES COMING OUT OF ONE OF THE ADJUSTER MOTORS. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE MOTOR OUT FROM UNDER THE SEAT AFTER I POURED A WATER BOTTLE OVER THE MOTOR AND USED TWO PAIRS OF GLOVES TO KEEP FROM BURNING MY HANDS. FROM LOOKING AT THE ADJUSTER MOTOR AFTER PULLED FROM THE VEHICLE ONE END WAS COMPLETELY GONE AS IT MELTED AND BURNED OFF THE PLASTIC COVER. IT ALSO BURNED A COUPLE OF HOLES IN THE CARPET UNDER THE SEAT. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT A MOTOR WOULD JUST CATCH ON FIRE AND AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO RANDY REED NISSAN, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THE SEAT ADJUSTER WAS STUCK IN THE "ON" POSITION. THE QUESTION I HAVE IS HOW CAN IT STICK IN THE ON POSITION WHEN WE ARE NOT TOUCHING THE SEAT ADJUSTERS. LASTLY, SINCE MY WIFE STATED SHE SMELLED A BURNT SMELL WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE OFF POSITION, WHAT IF THE ADJUSTER CAUGHT FIRE WHILE IN THE GARAGE AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO BURN AND CATCHING THE HOUSE ON FIRE. I SAY THIS BECAUSE THE ADJUSTOR WOULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS OFF. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HAVING THE VEHICLE ON. THERE SHOULD BE A SAFETY SWITCH TO KEEP SOMETHING LIKE THAT FROM HAPPENING. IT ALSO CAUSED $3,600 IN REPAIR WHICH WE HAVE NOT COMPLETED YET.

I made an appointment with the dealership peoria nissan for 8:15am on the morning of 4/18/26. I confirmed the recall and brought the vehicle in early they received it told me it should be done by lunch. At 3:45 pm they messaged me it was all done and ready to go. I called and questioned them as to whether or not the airbag needed to be replaced, where they admitted they actually didnt do anything. They started to work on it, realized they wouldnt have time and put it back together. The keys would be at the front desk at sales they were going home. I went down and asked about a rental as the vehicle had a dangerous recall (I had just purchased the vehicle used) they said service is closed go ahead and drive it home and set another appointment and try again. Not only did they lie originally by stating it was all done and ready to go in hopes I wouldnt ask about the airbag. They then insisted I drive it home knowing it was a danger to my family and myself.

My son & I took the car out two days after I bought it. Wanted to see how things looked at night. I took an unfamiliar rd ,( why,I dont know) Enjoying the ride and all the dash lights and bright headlights. Coming up to what appeared to be a slight downhill, curved rd, The car suddenly would not let me steer or brake or, What the heck! I thought its broken and we are going to crash in the trees! Realizing the car shut itself off,im asking, ok yelling at my son, what do I do??? IT took all I had to try & stay calm, and drive like , back when. (No power steering,)but not sure what to do about brakes. Thank God, I had made that corner ok and as rd leveled, I was slowing enough to pull out of the way of the guy behind me in such a hurry. Pulling to the curb, slowly using ebrake, I stopped finally. Took me a good half hour to stop shaking to get out & let my son have a look. Gas tank still full, as it was a few weeks earlier when we test drove. He tried to start , the engine tried to start but just wouldn't cooperate. Didn't know what to look for under hood. So called a friend who thank goodness found us, bringing a battery, tow hook & gas. Hooked up battery charger, poured a little gas, stood out there freezing till they went to try & start & his magic worked. Started up and was on our way. No problem the rest of the night. Texted the people the next day asking about that & she said they never had any such problem. We tested the battery which was fine & still lots of gas. It happened again a couple weeks later. I inquired again about that problem & a couple other things. But, no the cars been great with only brakes replaced the time they had the vehicle. Ok, well this happen again, so I looked into it only to find there has been a recall on something to do with gastank & floater or such. We noticed if we keep a full tank of gas, It doesn't seem to happen. What I read was a recall which they said had never been a problem & never recieved. Well....??We wonder.

THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE IS INACCURATELY DISPLAYING THAT THE VEHICLE STILL HAS SOME FUEL, TYPICALLY ABOUT ONE QUARTER TANK, WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS EMPTY. It is the same as the recall for Nissan Armada’s with other VIN numbers, however it doesn’t cover mine, despite matching the year of manufacture, description, and diagnosis of issue. I am asking that the VIN numbers be updated to include mine. Also, under the “status” panel of my electronic display, it’s shows 70-80~ miles left of driving range before running out of fuel.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

For the past couple of years my 2008 Nissan Armada has been giving me issues with the gas gauge not reading accurately, it has progressed over time. It started out happening around a quarter of a tank with anywhere from 25 to 60 miles to empty according to the reading on the screen display. There has been no warning of running out of gas, it just happens while driving, the vehicle starts to shut down & the steering wheel eventually locks up, I do not have very long to find a driveway or parking lot to coast into before the vehicle completely shuts down. Over time it has happened at different intervals indicating I still have gas according to the gauge & the screen display, one time it showed as much as 147 miles to empty. My husband & I researched what may need to be checked or replaced to remedy the issue, everything led to changing the fuel pump which we did in August 2022. Within a few days it started happening again, at that time we had a mechanic look at my vehicle, they figured out that the fuel pump was missing a cap on the end of it, they replaced it. After about 4-6 months or so it started happening again, at that time we brought it back to the same mechanic to assess. After keeping it for 4 days, they decided that "the fuel pump must be bad & needs to be changed, sometimes fuel pumps just go bad". After paying over $700.00 to replace the fuel pump again (March 2023), it lasted about 2 weeks & happened again! There was a recall back in 2010 I believe for the fuel sending unit on my vehicle, Nissan replaced it at no charge, however, I was not having any issues at that time, when I called Nissan a year or so ago, they told me that a recall can only be done once where they fix the issue at no charge.

There was a recall back in 2010 I believe for the fuel sending unit on my vehicle, Nissan replaced it at no charge, however, I was not having any issues at that time, when I called Nissan a year or so ago, they told me that a recall can only be done once where they fix the issue at no charge.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The fuel system failed while I was driving in traffic. The vehicle shutoff and would not restart. Safety is was in flowing traffic my vehicle all of sudden stopped forward motion. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone. The check engine and battery light came on. I do not recall the other indicators. My fuel gauge was showing a needles width of 1/4 tank when this happened. I bought a gas can and went to the closest gas station for fuel. I put two gallons in and the vehicle started up.

The gauge can indicate that the vehicle has 1/2 tank of gas 153miles remaining until empty when in fact the tank is nearly empty. While driving on highway my 2 children, my daughter friend and myself the vehicle began to drag, I was like oh my God it feels like it's going to cut off. I immediately had a anxiety attack trying to figure out what was happening because no warning lights came on in which had me panic even more. I tried to calm down and get off to side of roadway at least before it did shut off. As soon as I started to drive off to side it shut off I tried to give it gas nothing and the steering wheel had tighten up(no power)so now we was rolling and I'm trying my hardest to steer so we wouldn't hit anything. It was the most scariest moment of my life and my life flashed in front of me and praying no trucks came flying. I proceeded to call AAA they asked my location and if we was in a safe area, did it run out of gas, etc.... They said they will dispatch a tow truck and also tell them to being gas just in case. I said it's by 1/2 tank and say it's 153 miles til empty, they said sometimes those gauge don't work, I said the digital fuel as well would be off. Well the tow truck came check fluids, batteries and nothing was wrong he put the gas and it started. This is very dangerous for this gauge to be broken and not operating correctly because it just shut off and had me and my children and friend was in a deadly accident due to a [XXX] malfunction from a defaulted gas reader. What would you people tell our families oh we sorry. This is a serious serious deadly problem that needs to be addressed immediately.  Another problem is the suspension and tires. I had everything checked and thought I needed a wheel alignment and I still notice when I hit a bump I'm the road the entire truck swerve. The digital tire air pressure gauge inside car on screen is off and not reading either. The either electrical system is off if you ask me. I hope that someone contact me INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM

Brought my 2008 Nissan Armada to my dealer for an alignment ahead of a road trip with my family. Was told the vehicle is not safe to drive. The frame was rotted and cracked, and that the rear wheels have shifted. This condition is completely hidden unless on a lift. I have owned this vehicle since new.
