I am filing a safety complaint regarding my Nissan Murano due to a recurring water leak caused by clogged sunroof/moonroof drain tubes. This problem has now happened for the third time, even after prior repairs by an authorized Nissan dealership. Water repeatedly enters the interior of the vehicle, soaking the carpets and interior areas. I am very concerned about mold and mildew developing underneath the carpeting and inside the vehicle because of the trapped moisture. This creates potential health concerns for passengers and affects the safety and air quality inside the car. I am also concerned about possible electrical damage from repeated water intrusion near wiring and electronic components. The ongoing leaks have caused major inconvenience, repair expenses, and concern about the long-term reliability of the vehicle. The first repair was completed by a Nissan dealership at my own expense, yet the same issue returned multiple times afterward. After researching this problem, I found that many other Nissan Murano owners have reported similar recurring drain clogging and water intrusion issues. I believe this may indicate a design defect or inadequate drainage system that should be investigated further. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this issue for potential safety risks related to mold exposure, electrical failures, and recurring water intrusion affecting Nissan Murano vehicles.

The panoramic sunroof front glass on my 2018 Nissan Murano shattered unexpectedly while I was driving on the highway. Fortunately, I had the interior sliding sunshade closed, which prevented the shattered glass from falling directly onto me. The explosion sound was extremely loud — at first, I thought there had been a collision nearby or that a tire had blown out. However, I immediately felt heat and airflow inside the car, and I could hear the shattered glass movement on top of the closed interior shade. That’s when I realized something happened to my sunroof. I immediately took the next exit and pulled over to inspect the damage. There was a large hole in the sunroof and shattered glass sitting right on the interior sliding sunshade. If the sliding interior shade had been open, the glass could have caused me serious injuries. Additionally, the shock from the explosion could easily have caused me to swerve and create a dangerous accident on the highway. I also have no way of knowing whether glass fell onto the highway or struck other vehicles, which is hazardous to others. There were no construction zones, trucks, or any visible road hazards at the time of the incident. I later learned that there is a class-action lawsuit involving Nissan panoramic sunroofs for this same issue — catastrophic glass shattering allegedly caused by the use of tempered glass — and my model and year appear to be included. I filed a claim with my insurance company, brought the vehicle to Nissan dealership, and had the sunroof replaced. Since this incident, I no longer feel safe opening the sliding sunshade at all.

On several occasions now I have gone to exit the car from the drivers side and it just didn’t open. It behaved as though a child lock engaged and it would only open after manually flipping lock repeatedly. Was scary to feel trapped in car.

This car is filling with water. Apparently hundreds of people have reported this in all different model years. The car has a moonroof and the drains are not installed correctly. There is water in spare tire well and running into dash as well as into break lights. Nissan should be fixing this for everyone. The cars should be recalled. I hate to think this will require a class action.

WHETHER IT BE A FEW SECONDS AFTER DRIVING, OR A MINUTE OR TWO, THE WARNING 'UNAVAILABLE FRONT RADAR OBSTRUCTION' APPEARS ON THE DASH BOARD. THIS INDICATES THAT THE AUTOMATIC COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM HAS BEEN DISABLED. THIS IS THE RADAR SYSTEM THAT MONITORS THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE VEHICLE AND ANY OBJECT IN FRONT OF IT, THAT FIRST ALERTS THE DRIVER IF THEY ARE APPROACHING AN OBJECT AHEAD RAPIDLY AND IF NO ACTION IS TAKEN ON THE DRIVERS PART, WILL THEN TRY TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN BY APPLYING THE BRAKES TO HELP AVOID OR MITIGATE THE IMPACT OF A COLLISION. THIS SYSTEM IS NOT SUPPOSED TO AUTOMATICALLY TURN ITSELF OFF. THIS HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE TIME THE VEHICLE IS USED AND SEEMS TO BE A WELL DOCUMENTED PHENOMENON BY MURANO OWNERS, THROUGH UNOFFICIAL NISSAN MURANO FORUMS, AS WELL AS HERE ON DIGITAL TRENDS 'HTTPS://WWW.DIGITALTRENDS.COM/CARS/FAULTY-RADARS-COMPROMISING-NISSAN-EMERGENCY-BRAKING-SYSTEM/?AMP' WITH THE 2015-2018 NISSAN MURANO AND OTHER NISSAN VEHICLES.

I OWN A 2018 NISSAN MURANO SL. THERE IS A FRONT SENOR ISSUE THAT I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING EVER SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, IN NOVEMBER 12, 2019. EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT, WITHOUT FAIL. SEEMINGLY RANDOM, I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE: "FRONT RADAR OBSTRUCTED" WARNING APPEARS ON PANEL. THE "COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM INACTIVE" ICON LIGHT COMES ON. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE WARNING MESSAGE GOES OFF; THE COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM LIGHT GOES OFF. THIS ERROR CONTINUES TO HAPPEN AGAIN ALMOST EVERY TEN MINUTES AFTER THE INITIAL ERROR MESSAGE FOR THE DURATION OF MY CAR TRIP. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER IF I'M TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY OR COUNTRY ROAD.... OR EVEN AT A COMPLETE STOP....IT STILL HAPPENS NO MATTER WHAT, AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE IS TURNED ON.

WHEN DRIVING IN CRUISE CONTROL, THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY FLASH A SIGNAL STATING "FRONT RADAR OBSTRUCTION, UNAVAILABLE" WHICH DISENGAGES THE BRAKING SYSTEM WHILE DRIVING IN CRUISE CONTROL, . THIS ALMOST CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE THE RADAR FAILED TO ALERT AND AUTOMATICALL SLOW CAR DOWN. THIS ALSO CAUSES A HAZARD WHEN DRIVING ON REGULAR STREETS AS ALL OF A SUDDEN THE SIGNAL FLASHES INEXPLICABLY AND UNPREDICTABLY WHICH CAUSES A DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING.

WHILE DRIVING ALONG APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH ALONG A CITY STREET APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT READY TO STOP, I HEARD THIS REALLY LOUD NOISE SOUNDING LIKE A GUNSHOT OR SIMILAR LOUD NOISE. THE SUNROOF WAS CLOSED, HOWEVER, IT EXPLODED THE FRONT SLIDING GLASS OF THE SUNROOF, AND I WAS VERY SURPRISED. AT FIRST I HAD NO IDEA WHAT H AD TAKEN PLACE, I THEN HEARD LOUD AIR NOISES COMING IN THE CAR. I CHECKED TO MAKE SURE ALL THE DOORS AND WINDOWS WERE CLOSED TIGHTLY. I DECIDED TO STROP AND CHECK THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, AND NOTICED THE LARGE HOLE IN THE SUNROOF. I HAD DRIVE HOME ABOUT 35 MILES WITH THE BROKEN GLASS SLIDING AROUND IN THE SHADE BETWEEN THE SUNROOF AND THE CAR. I HAD NO IDEA HOW THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO THE BODY SHOP, AND THEY STATED THAT I SHOULDN'T BE DRIVING IT LIKE THIS BECAUSE IT WOULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF THE BROKEN GLASS WOULD SUDDENLY BREAK THROUGH THE SHADE, AND THE GLASS WOULD FALL DIRECTLY INTO THE AUTO AND ON ME AND THE PASSENGER. I DON'T HAVE ANY PICTURES AT THIS TIME,,HOWEVER THE BODY SHOP HAS.

FRONTAL COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM CONTINUOUSLY TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING CAR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT ALSO CAUSES THE CRUSE CONTROL TO TURN OFF. WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO RAPIDLY SLOW DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT THE BRAKE LIGHTS COMING ON. THIS POTENTIALLY COULD CAUSE A CHAIN REACTION ACCIDENT. THE PROBLEM OCCURS EVERY TIME THE CAR IS DRIVEN . NISSAN KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM BUT DOES NOT HAVE A FIX FOR IT. THEY CONTINUE TO SAY THE PROBLEM IS UNDER ENGINEERING REVIEW. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 9,900. THREE TIMES NOW WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE A/C STOPS BLOWING THROUGH THE AIR VENTS IN THE CABIN, EVEN THOUGH THE COMPRESSOR IS STILL AUDIBLE IN THE DASH. THREE TIMES I HAVE VISITED THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AND HAVE BEEN SENT HOME THREE TIMES SAYING THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. OF COURSE THEY CAN'T BECAUSE THIS IN AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT HAPPENS AFTER AN HOUR OF DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN THE SERVICE TECH FINALLY GETS TO THE CAR TO BEGIN THE DIAGNOSIS, THE CAR IS COLD AND WORKS FINE. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN CORPORATE AND THEY SAID THE SAME, THEY COULD NOT AUTHORIZE A REPAIR UNTIL A DEALER COULD DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND DOCUMENT IT. I EVEN TOOK A VIDEO WITH MY PHONE OF THE ISSUE LIVE WHEN IT HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING. IN THE VIDEO, YOU CAN SEE THE AIR IS NOT BLOWING A PIECE OF PAPER IN FRONT OF THE VENT BUT THE A/C IS SET TO MAX AND TURNED ON FULL BLAST.
