Recalls on the 2003 Tiffin Allegro

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

Canada — Transport Canada

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2018046 1,653 units in Canada

Accessories

On certain motorhomes equipped with Kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: Owners will be provided with instructions on how to inspect the fire extinguisher to see if it is recalled. Replacement fire extinguishers will be supplied by Kidde directly. Note: For more information about recalled fire extinguishers, please visit www.kidde.com.

Recall 2008034 242 units in Canada

Other

On certain motorhomes equipped with a Dometic Corporation refrigerator, a fatigue crack can develop in the boiler tube. This could allow the release of pressurized coolant solution into an area where an ignition source is present, which could result in a fire. Correction: Dealers will replace the refrigerator's boiler tube assembly.

Recall 2006110 77 units in Canada

Lights And Instruments

Certain motorhomes fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 101 and 105. Incorrect software programmed into the instrument panel cluster may not allow activation of certain driver warning indicators. As a result, the instrument cluster may fail to illuminate the warning lamps indicating brake system failure. Correction: Workhorse Custom Chassis dealers will reprogram the instrument panel cluster.

Recall 2003129 14 units in Canada

Lights And Instruments

On certain vehicles, the brake system warning indicator will not illuminate when the ignition is in the start position or when the brake fluid is low. Correction: The brake warning indicator bulb from the right side indicator position must be transferred to the left side indicator position of the instrument cluster and the wire harness must be modified.

Recalls cover specific build ranges, so check your own vehicle by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or, in Canada, Transport Canada.

IN 2008 FULL LOSS OF BRAKE FUNCTIONING IN OUR 2003 ALLEGRO MOTORHOME WITH A WORKHORSE CHASSIS GOING UP HILL. WE HAD MOTORHOME TOWED TO SERVICE CENTER. WORKHORSE REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY CLAIMING IT WAS MY HUSBAND WHO HELD THE BRAKES ON TO LONG. HE IS A PROFESSIONAL CEMENT TRUCK DRIVER AND THIS IS NOT THE CASE. THE BRAKE PADS SHOW NO WEAR THEY WERE JUST BURNED WHEN THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED. WE PAID TO HAVE ALL BRAKE SYSTEMS REPLACED, BUT NOW ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE COACH BECAUSE AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN AND WE ARE IN FEAR OF OUR FAMILIES SAFETY. WE CONTINUE TO MAKE PAYMENTS ON A MOTORHOME WE ARE UNABLE TO USE DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES WORKHORSE IS UNABLE TO REPAIR.

BRAKE LOCKUP AFTER HARD STOP BEING REQUIRED. BRAKES WORKED CORRECTLY AND SMOOTHLY FOR OVER 100 MILES, BUT I HAD A SITUATION WHERE HAD I TRIED AND FINISH MY LEFT TURN (TWO LANE HIGHWAY) I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT IN THE SIDE BY A SEMI-TRUCK THAT DECIDED TO PASS. I HAD THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL ON AND WAS DRIVING SLOW IN ORDER TO MAKE MY TURN WHEN I SAW THE SEMI, AT WHICH TIME I PULLED OVER TO THE RIGHT AND HIT MY BRAKES. I THEN DROVE APPROX. 2-3 MILES TO MY DESTINATION AND THAT IS WHEN THE BRAKES HEATED UP, AS YOU COULD SMELL THEM.
