I turned on the car after it had been sitting in the hot sun for about 4 hours (after a 180 mile trip). When I turned on the vehicle, about a minute into driving (on a gravel driveway), the car started blaring multiple lights and the steering wheel locked. Notifications were “System Failure" & "Electric Power Steering Malfunction - please contact dealer.” The steering wheel completely locked/uncontrollable - 3 others tried to help me. I was going ~5 mph when it happened. I was able to put the car into park & turned it off for 10min. On restart, the car acted normal again. If this happened while driving at a high speed I believe it would result in serious injury or death. This is the second episode. The first time it happened (XXX), Toyota did a full inspection/scan of the car but couldn't reproduce the issue despite confirming it was documented in the car's system log. This time, I emailed toyota same day. The car has now been at dealer for 4 days. They haven’t been able to reproduce the issue despite acknowledging both times that the events are documented in the car's log. The dealer recommended replacing the ECU. Unfortunately, toyota corporate claims they "cannot replace it without reproducing the issue" which is ridiculous given that the issue is inherently unpredictable (which is what makes it terrifying) yet irrefutably present. I am concerned I will die due to a malfunctioning steering wheel before toyota corporate will take it seriously. I do not feel safe driving the car now that this has inexplicably happened 2x. Multiple people online reported a similar issue [XXX]; the sounds occurring during the linked video are similar to my event. The main difference is that my car never once said low battery; no engine problems, never have had a dead battery. I was even able to drive 180 miles home that night (praying the whole time cause I had no other choice in a rural area). NHTSA complaint #11757009 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I had left work less than 2 miles away. I was sitting at red light. The light turn green I took my foot off brake my screen went black and power failed. I put it in park and it restart. Power came back on. I turn off A button and drove 22 miles home with no known issues. No warning lights had came on. I found this to be a dangerous situation in traffic. 2 weeks ago I had taken my car for oil change, tire rotation and had a brake flush to dealership in Spanish fort Daphne, AL. I currently have 37,688 miles on car.

Rainy day, during daylight hours, wipers and lights on. Engine stalled from 35mph. Display read low steering power. Hard start by pushing brake and ignition button. Could have been terrible accident. No prior notification of battery or electrical issues
NHTSA complaint #11754389 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Pooling of water on passenger side of vehicle. Drain tube clogged HVAC under 2300 miles. They stated it was because I ran through a mud puddle and denied the warranty and will not cover the interior of the vehicle. The interior is moldy from the water exposure, and the electrical system has been compromised. I cannot use the vehicle as the mold poses an immediate environmental safety concern for my family to include by 1 year old child.

I was driving on my way into work on highway 169 Northbound going 65 mph in the left lane with nobody in the front of me, and nobody to the right of me, and head a loud popping noise, turns out that my windshield cracked. It started as a 6"-8" crack, and then it grew across the entire windshield over a couple of days. The crack is on the inside of the car, not on the outside, which means that it does not have an impact point on it. A crack to suddenly appear with a loud pop is a stress fracture. To have a windshield spontaneously crack while driving is extremely concerning. I brought the car into Burnsville Toyota Service Center, who denied warranty work when the car never moved from the spot, as confirmed with my Toyota App as it updates when the car was last moved. I argued with them by showing photos, pointing out that the crack was on the inside of the windshield, and spoke with the Toyota Customer Service Line, who told me to try a different dealership. When I brought my car to Bloomington Toyota, they said that they would not do anything as they "didn't have any skin in the game since I didn't buy it from them." Ultimately, I had my windshield replaced by Safelite, who confirmed with three separate techs that the windshield cracked on the inside, and did not have an impact point. Furthermore, my fiance stopped by Burnsville Toyota, and they tried to claim that they brought my car to a nearby LaMettry's to confirm it had an impact point, none of which was communicated to me in the several emails I sent, but my car also never moved from the parking spot in the two weeks it was at their service center. I also have an account with the Burnsville LaMettry's, who also do not have records of that happening.

My vehicle is subject to Toyota Safety Recall 25TA15 (NHTSA Recall 25V869) involving a loose inverter bolt. Toyota dealership has retained possession of my vehicle since February 23, 2026. As of June 22, 2026, the vehicle has been out of service for more than 120 days. Toyota has failed to provide a repair date, repair timeline, or meaningful resolution despite multiple contacts, a certified mail notice, and attorney involvement. Toyota Case Number: 260323003356.

I own a 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross XLE with very low mileage. The windshield cracked unexpectedly and Toyota replaced the windshield under manufacturer warranty on February 9, 2026. Shortly after the replacement, the windshield cracked again. The vehicle currently has only a few thousand miles (3315 mileage) I am concerned there may be a defect involving the windshield, vehicle structure, frame stress, or windshield installation. The issue has now happened more than once on a nearly new vehicle. The repeated windshield cracking creates a safety concern because it affects visibility and could compromise driver safety while operating the vehicle. Toyota has escalated my case internally for further review. The windshield and repair history are available for inspection upon request.

Incredibly dangerous situation! Driving down I-15 in SLC when my Sunroof EXPLODED! 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, 22k miles, purchased new and sunroof came with the car. Sounded like a gunshot. Luckily, no one was injured by flying glass and kept the car stable. I could see how someone reacting to this sound might slam on their brakes or swerve the car or worse the driver could be cut by falling glass if the slider were open. My "damage" is having to pay for a new roof. Toyota dealer tried to say that something hit my car and it wasn't a manufacturer defect. Right. Tell me how a rock is going to get past my large Thule cargo box to drop a hole like this one! I filed a claim with State Farm but the part is special and must be ordered. UP until yesterday I have never had any issues with the sunroof. Such a racquet. Toyota gets to keep selling replacement sunroofs and the insurance companies and consumers are the ones paying for their poor workmanship.

Driver’s side front window shattered seemingly spontaneously. Car was locked and parked overnight and found in morning with shattered window. No other signs of damage to car, no rock found next to car/window. Took to nearest toyota dealership who did take pictures and told me they would file a report.

Engine turned off at stop light while stopped for about 30 seconds, then started a long beep. The engine light and the power steering light came on. The screen also said put in park and restart engine. I did and it started back up and the dashboard warnings went away. It was unsafe because when the light changed to green I couldn't immediately accelerate and the cars behind me could not either. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer, they cannot find anything wrong.
NHTSA complaint #11701488 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The vehicle’s multimedia screen intermittently displays a message prompting to “enter 6-digit PIN.” This message frame appears randomly and covers the center of the screen, including while the vehicle is in motion. When this occurs, the navigation display becomes blocked, creating a potential safety hazard as the driver’s view of navigation instructions is obstructed. To clear the message, the driver must manually press the “X” icon and then reselect the map display. This action requires driver attention and physical interaction with the screen while driving, increasing the risk of distraction and compromising safe vehicle operation. The issue occurs unpredictably—sometimes after several days, sometimes within minutes, or even immediately after pressing X to close the message. This recurring behavior significantly limits the use of navigation and other vehicle functions, effectively impairing normal and safe vehicle operation. Toyota dealer advised contacting the Brand Engagement Center. The Brand Engagement Center referred back to the dealer, suggesting the issue may be “mechanical.” The dealer reports that the vehicle is functioning normally. This creates a closed loop in which neither the dealer nor Brand Engagement Center accepts responsibility for resolving the issue. As a result, the safety concern remains unaddressed. Toyota should investigate and provide a definitive resolution to prevent the multimedia system from displaying the PIN prompt while the vehicle is in motion.

While driving at a moderate speed (june 7, 2025), multiple critical systems of the vehicle suddenly failed. Both dashboard screens (driver and center display) went black, and numerous warning lights appeared afterward, including oil pressure, engine, lane departure, tire pressure, and airbag (SRS) system malfunction. The vehicle accelerated involuntarily, the brakes did not respond, the steering became stiff, and the airbags failed to deploy upon impact with concrete and metal highway barriers. A "System Malfunction" and "SRS Airbag System Malfunction" message appeared. The police report attributes the crash to a vehicle system malfunction. Two days before the incident (June 5, 2025), the vehicle had been serviced by the dealer, and the electronic screen issue had been reported but not addressed. This failure put our lives at serious risk and demonstrates a catastrophic malfunction across safety-critical systems. Photos and documentation are available, and the vehicle is under insurance and legal review.

I had the 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross LE for one week and have experienced two occurrences of a serious safety concern. After coming to a complete stop (with the auto stop turned off), I will accelerate for a few second before the car completely loses power in the middle of the road. After a few seconds, it seems to pick back up and continue like nothing happened. This malfunction has left me in situations that will cause an accident. I am terrified to put my [XXX] and [XXX] back in this car just to be a sitting duck waiting to be hit by other drivers.
