Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2009-2015 Venza vehicles. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) wiring may become damaged with regular use of the driver-side door.
Risk: Damaged wires may cause the air bag sensor to become inoperable, preventing the deployment of the side and curtain air bags on the driver side and increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

The electrical wiring in the seat heaters may be damaged when the seat cushion is compressed.
Risk: If damaged, the copper strand heating element may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.

The affected vehicles may experience compression of the seat cushion which may damage the seat heater wiring.
Risk: Damage to the seat heater wiring could cause the wires to short, increasing the risk of the seat burning and causing personal injury to the occupant.

Risk: An inaccurate label could lead to owners overloading their vehicles and tires. An overloaded vehicle can result in a tire failure which may result in a vehicle crash, personal injury, or property damage.

Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain models interspersed through model years 2009 through 2013 as follows: model year 2009-2012 Tacoma, 4Runner, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Prius, and RAV4; model year 2009-2010 Avalon, FJ Cruiser, and Highlander Hybrid; model year 2010-2013 model year Corolla, Sienna and Tundra; model year 2009-2013 Highlander and Venza; model year 2012 Prius V; and model year 2010-2012 Sequoia. During modification by SET to include accessories such as leather seat covers, seat heaters or headrest DVD systems, these vehicles may not have had the passenger seat occupant sensing system calibration tested. Without passing the calibration test, the occupant sensing system may not operate as designed.
Risk: If the front passenger seat occupant sensing system is out of calibration, the front passenger airbags may not deploy or they may deploy inappropriately for the passenger's size and position. This could increase the risk of personal injury during the event of a vehicle crash necessitating airbag deployment.

Issue: This recall is for certain block heater kits installed on certain vehicles or sold as accessories at Toyota or Lexus dealerships. On certain vehicles, the engine block heater cable may not have enough heat protection and could be damaged by high temperatures. If this happens, the cable could short circuit while plugged in, and cause the wiring to overheat or melt. Issue: On certain vehicles, the wiring for the airbag sensor in the driver's door could be damaged over time. If this happens, the side airbag and curtain airbag on the driver's side may not work properly in a crash. Note: This problem may cause the SRS warning lamp to turn on in the instrument cluster. Safety Risk: Airbags that do not work properly could create an increased risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Toyota will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the driver's door wire harness. It will be replaced, if necessary.

On certain vehicles, silicone grease may have come into contact with the stop lamp switch during vehicle assembly. If grease infiltrates the switch, instrument panel warning lamps could illuminate, a no start condition could result, or the shift lever may not shift from the PARK position. In some instances, the vehicle stop lamps could become inoperative. Failure of the stop lamps to illuminate when the brakes are applied may result in the following road users being unaware of the driver's intentions, increasing the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the stop lamp switch.

On certain vehicles, if the specifically designed all weather floor mat for that vehicle is not secured by the retaining clip or placed on top of an existing floor mat, the mat could move forward and may interfere with the accelerator pedal. This situation could result in a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will modify the accelerator pedal to address the risk of floor mat entrapment. I contacted Toyota 7 times thus far and they are refusing to help because the recall only affected the Southeast Distributor group. I find this ludicrous as all the vehicles were made at the Georgetown, Kentucky plant. I simply want the remedy that Southeast Toyota Distributors gave their customers: Removal of bad heating unit, return of $115.88 charge of confirmation, and a return of the accessory charge I paid in December 2009. An independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, an independent mechanic arrived at the residence to diagnose the vehicle and retrieved a fault code related to the ECM. The mechanic also informed the contact to call a locksmith regarding the key fob. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The contact stated that while the contact's friend was driving, the friend heard a ticking noise and the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact's friend drove the vehicle to the intended destination. The contact's friend exited the vehicle and noticed a large amount of oil on the ground that had leaked from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with failed oil cooler hoses. The contact's friend was informed that the oil cooler hoses needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. This seat is still in tact and available for full inspection upon request. This is a major safety issue that is known about but not addressed. Major fire risk putting anyone inside vehicle in danger. I have a 2 year old daughter and if I didn’t have a lot of electrical and vehicle knowledge I could have easily left the heated seat on not knowing and caused a major risk for my entire family. Toyota needs to add the rest of the vehicles that have these issues into the recall. I have not taken into dealer yet just informed my wife not to use heated seat. I plan to take in soon to dealer but with a known issue it should be covered by a recall and not out of pocket. No police, insurance or manufacture have inspected yet. No warning lights on at all.
