2017 Golf has been nothing but a nightmare. [1] 2018-2021, it was Infotainment system that I had to repair 3 times; once under warranty, twice out of pocket. Stupid navigation system malfunctions every time they upgrade the map or something and caused another visit to the dealer for replacing the entire radio and that little disk in the glove box. How many times would anyone do this during ownership, every year? I gave up fixing that dumbest navigation infotainment whatever, after paying thousands of $$ twice. Apparently, nobody at VW could care less if their driver could have an accident while driving with phone in hand to navigate while the navigation screen is on forever uploading loop. [2] 2026, EPC started showing up on dashboard. Car was noticeably sluggish and became difficult to accelerate. Dumbass dealership misdiagnosed and repaired engine harness instead of turbocharger, costing me thousands of $$ for two separate repairs. I missed the class action deadline due to seldom driving. EPC was not acting up yet during the suit. Whoever reads this, go buy yourself a Toyota.

My vehicle was serviced at an authorized VW dealer on Dec 12 for recall-related work & a diagnostic water test (fee waived; $0 paid). Before leaving the dealership, while still on property, I observed extensive interior damage not present prior to service: widespread staining/saturation of headliner, sunroof shade, interior pillars (A–D), plus damage to interior trim. Substance was not colorless or odorless; damage was systemic, not localized. I documented immediately w/ photos taken on dealership property. I requested help/loaner; denied; required to take vehicle. After leaving, additional wet areas appeared & later dried w/ visible staining, indicating prolonged saturation following service. Dealer service documentation states rear sunroof drains were leaking; however damage was present throughout interior, including areas inconsistent w/ a rear-only drain issue. Based on the location (headliner + pillars), this raises concern for potential impact to electrical components/wiring & airbag-related areas, plus latent issues due to moisture/chemical exposure. I requested confirmation of procedures/substances used during testing; info not provided. I requested a garage liability claim; declined. Dealer offered cleaning & later proposed replacing only the headliner. This issue occurred during recall-related service, raising concern about whether OEM-approved procedures were followed during diagnostic testing. The dealer declined to confirm what liquids or methods were used. Because the damage pattern contradicts the stated diagnosis, any repair based on that diagnosis would be incomplete, potentially allowing continued intrusion or latent electrical or airbag-related issues to develop over time. PTC auxiliary heater core connection point failure . It was reported that the wrong type of metal was used for the main electrical connection point for this part causing significant over heating further leading to melting and burning plastic. This then introduces potentially dangerous fumes into the vehicle cabin via the HVAC system. If unaddressed this would likely cause fire damage. The problem has been reproduced by multiple vehicle owners and happens during cold conditions as it supplies heat to the cabin prior to the engine hitting optimal operating temperatures. No warning messages or codes are thrown as a result of this issue. It is a hazard and could cause harm to operators of the vehicles affected.

In the last year, my car has experienced multiple instances of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) warning light, check engine light, and a flashing glow plug light on the dashboard. Despite multiple visits and repairs at Sheehy Volkswagen of Springfield, these issues persist, particularly in sub-freezing temperatures. Upon independent inspection of the engine compartment, I found multiple exposed wires, broken wires, and poorly repaired broken wires. The most significant concerns are as follows: Repeated DPF Issues: Over the last three years, the DPF warning and related issues have recurred each winter. Initial attempts to rectify the issue included a DPF regeneration procedure, which temporarily cleared the fault codes but did not address the underlying problem. The DPF was finally replaced in mid-2024, yet the same problems manifested with a brand new component just months later. Extended Repair Time: Sheehy Volkswagen of Springfield had my vehicle for a total of six months (Dec-23 to May-24), during which they were unable to diagnose or fix the problem despite escalating the case to Volkswagen HQ (Business Case Numbers: BT1167682 and BT1177805). This delay is unacceptable. Poor Customer Service: Throughout this period, customer service was unsatisfactory. I was frequently passed between customer service representatives, none of whom were sufficiently informed about the ongoing repairs. Incorrect Diagnosis and Repairs: After replacing the DPF, ECM, temperature sensor, and wiring harnesses, the issue persisted. It was eventually suggested that a wiring problem might be to blame, yet no comprehensive solution was provided. Incompetence and Safety Concerns: Upon retrieving my vehicle, I noticed white smoke emanating from the engine compartment, which I discovered was due to the coolant reservoir being overfilled. Additionally, an independent inspection revealed exposed and poorly repaired wires, posing a serious safety hazard.

Supplementary auxiliary electric heater ground connector melted and could have caused a fire. Original part #5Q0963235B. A recall (17V-62) for this part was active for various Audi and VW models but for whatever reason my car was not included. Car was brought to Valenti VW on 3/1/24 for inspection after burning smell was emitting from vents. Dealer was unable to locate the source of the problem. Discovered the defective heater myself during fall season when heat was necessary. Please see attached photos. I feel I am entitled to reimbursement for the costs associated with getting this dangerous situation repaired.

Despite settling a class action lawsuit re: moonroof leakage, VW refuses to cover the same repair for my VW Golf Sportwagen. I have the same issue but could not participate in the class action suit due to mileage. I routinely have to bail 1/2 - 1 gallon of water out the spare tire area if its been raining. Water now also collects in the footwell behind the driver's seat/in front of my child's seat. The bolts affixing the seatbelts to the floor are rusted and there is mold under the carpet. The car now has electrical issues, including the alarm no longer sounding when I am reversing and someone is approaching in my blind spot. In addition, when the weather has been wet, the back up camera does not work and, mid trip, the car alarms sound, indicating the car must be serviced and the brakes and airbags are not working. These problems disappear after a few days of dry weather.

The contact owns a 2019 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle restarted after 15 minutes but then stalled again. While driving 45 MPH on three other occasions, the vehicle stalled. The check starting system message was displayed. The contact called the local dealer and was informed that the part to repair the vehicle was not available. The contact called another local dealer, Volkswagen Lee’s Summit (2225 NE Independence Ave., Lee's Summit, MO 64064) and was informed that the parts were not available. The manufacturer was contacted but the contact was awaiting a call back. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTS Campaign Number: 23V604000 (Electrical System). The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.

In 2019, VW issue a recall (37M2) Shift Lever Micro Switch for failing resulting in noncompliant Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention. The recall was issued for 2015-2019 Golf and 2017-2019 Golf Sportwagen, HOWEVER, in Canada, the recall included 2015-2019 Golf Sportwagen. I have a 2015 Golf Sportwagen (USA) with a failing Shift Lever Micro Switch. There is no different between the Canadian and US Model for this part. I believe that VAG should include 2015 models in the recall.

I was parking my car with my foot on the brake when suddenly the car just took off and crashed into a building ---- WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE!! I think it was a sudden unintentional acceleration where the electrical something in the engine malfunctions causing the throttle to open and the car to accelerate --- FAST ---- and in a split second the car crashed into a building. I am thankful that the building was there otherwise I might have been killed or seriously injured . My car was a 2017 volkswagen golf.

The airbag and transmission error lights came on and I lost functionality of all the buttons on the steering wheel and the horn. My vehicle has been smoking inside cab and through vent system. After troubleshooting, discovered the brown ground wire and surrounding plastic of the PTC auxiliary heater has been burning. VW said the have no inventory for replacement parts and no date getting these in. I asked if there was a recall for this issue and they said there was not. Once the issue was located, I discovered a recall for the exact same issue on Audi vehicles. I am fortunate a fire did not ignite next to my leg while driving, however I did breath in a large amount of the smoke as the issue intermittently occured and the issue wasn't easily discovered. I am very frustrated VW would allow a fire hazzard to exist next to foot pedals. This should have been fixed long ago with a recall instead of forcing me and my family to breathe in smoke and risk a much larger fire. There were no warning lights and a dealer has not inspected the issue. However, brown cable housing is burnt/blackened.

I was parking my car with my foot firmly on the brake when suddenly the car surged out of control and very fast crashed in to a building. I was bruised and cut with chest pains, but the worst of it is that I lost my driver's license because of the accident. I have a mechanic's report. The mechanic came and looked at the car with a scanner and deemed the accident to be not my fault. The mechanic thought according the the information on the scanner that there was some electrical interference that caused the throttle to open. An insurance adjuster also came and thought the accident was not my fault, but the RMV(registry of motor vehicles) thinks the accident was my fault and I am having a hell of a time getting my license back. So far I have spent thousands of dollars on ubers getting around and also on lawyers to try to get my driver's license back. I would like to sue volkswagen. I have experienced ennourmas pain and suffering because of this accident even though I was not seriously hurt. If the building hadn't been there to stop the car I might well have been seriously hurt. And yes I have written to the CEO of volkswagen twice and I have also called him multiple times. I have called the dealership where I bought the car. I have spoken to several lawyers to no avail. I do have a lawyer who is working on getting my license back. This accident has taken a toll on my health and well being. I live in a semi rural area and am retired but still working part time in churches all over the city. Last month my visa bill was over $2000 -- mostly ubers. I am seriously hoping that I will get my license back soon but the problems this accident has caused have been huge. And yes this accident happened twice. Once on April 8 2019 --- I lost my license then but got it back --- then again the same thing with the same car --- parking the car -- foot on brake --- car speeds up with my foot on the brake and crashes in to a building.

The screen which is for the radio and back up camera has started to "flicker" This looks to be a common problem people are fixing it by having the head unit replaced but clearly it's a safety issue since the backup camera is hard to use. The burning plastic also created terrible fumes inside of the car. On starting the car the system monitoring safety features shows first a fault detected in the ABS, then the air bag, then tire pressure and sometimes indicates that the key battery should be replaced. It also turns off the idle control that raises the rpm when the brake peddle is released when stopped, and defeats the roll back when stopped on a hill. This started over six months ago and was intermittent, often turning off (no symbols lighted) and idle controls restored after a few minutes. About 5 weeks ago it became constant. In fact, the tire pressures are within the specifications, the key battery is new and measures 3V as expected. The status of the ABS and airbag cannot be checked by the consumer. This problem was reported to the Dealer, Flow Companies of Asheville, who found that the left rear speed sensor was faulty, but did not have the part. Replacement is now scheduled for October 3. This replacement hopefully will restore the monitoring system. My concern is that a monitoring system designed such that a fault in one system triggers false positive warnings in other safety related functions is dangerous. That it also affects the idle controls should not be acceptable. I have reviewed the TDI Forum and Golf Forums and found that this lighting up of multiple faults is not a rare occurrence. A faulty ABS speed sensor is sometimes the cause, other times is seems that moisture is penetrating a connector or cable. In any case a safety monitoring system providing false information should not be tolerated. I also drive a 2003 VW TDI Jetta, it also monitors the air bag, ABS and other systems, but a fault in one does not trigger a cascade of false positives.

The vehicle suddenly shut off while going 60 mph on the highway, and a 'Check Starter System' message appeared before a message that indicated that I need to stop the vehicle appeared. Vehicle was able to restart and the same issue occurred again less than 1 mile down the road. My safety was at risk due to the loss of power, that on another road or a highway on ramp, could have caused a collision due to the loss of speed I experienced. There were no prior warnings until the loss of power. The manufacturer service center was unable to replicate the issue or make any corrective action.

After turning on the vehicle, I turned the steering wheel and heard a click, then the airbag malfunction warning light came on immediately. Horn and all steering wheel buttons have stopped working (radio control, cruise control etc). and airbag warning light remains on. This seems obviously to be the broken clock spring problem. Vehicle has about 105,000 miles on it. I am not sure if the steering area was ever serviced during a previous safety recall, but I have never had any service on the steering wheel or issues in that area.
