BACK OVER PREVENTION: REARVIEW SYSTEM BRAKING

On July 16, 2026, a remote Over-the-Air (OTA) software update was initiated by Volkswagen. Prior to this update, the infotainment system functioned correctly (backup camera and other safety features are displayed on this screen. Immediately following the installation, the system module failed, rendering it unusable and multiple safety features negated by this failure. Although the vehicle is outside the standard factory warranty period, this failure is a direct result of a manufacturer-instigated remote software transmission rather than standard wear and tear. Furthermore, because this failure has disabled the backup camera, the vehicle is no longer compliant with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 111. Other safety features have also been disabled and this faulty infotainment module has been confirmed by the service department at the Volkswagen dealership as of 17 July 2026. They noted that this is a known issue across many vehicles and platforms and has not been addressed by Volkswagen corporate at the time of writing this report.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

Travel assist, the VW system that controls Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning, is repeatedly and randomly failing on the 2022 VW GTI. This is a well-known defect readily documented on the internet, due to a faulty capacitive sensor mat inside the steering wheel. This intermittent failure is clearly safety related and should be subject to a recall and repair at the manufacturer's expense. Itis not.

Sos travel assist, Warning lights come on with such frequency the are very distracting. they even come on and the emergency braking system starts up This is a know problem that VW refuses to address. They have replace the entire system on future models. leaving current owners left hanging with this safety issue with random sensors going off whenever they dam please I'm on my 3rd steering wheel, yea the thing that controls the whole vehicle. This is a known problem and VW chooses not to help their consumers with this safety issue. When this happens you loose control of our vehicle and have to re=orient yourself after you realize the problem is a VW safety issue Fortunately there has not been any accidents. I believe that is because the VW community is well aware how VW has turned us away from any kind of help even though they have a part change for new models....

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

I started my car and drove to a local 7-11 on my way to work and could not turn the key to shut the engine off. I proceeded to work and asked my friend to help me. After a struggle he got the key out,and 3 days later parked my car at a clients only to not be able to start the car. My steering wheel locking was random and was afraid it would lock up while driving. Was told at the dealership there was no recall even after I searched and found this to be problem enough that VW extended their warranty

2024 Volkswagen GTI Austin, TX Crash

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

The component that is failing is the infotainment center. Cruise control fails. Yes available for inspection. The safety of my car is compromised and puts myself and others at risk. The backup camera fails - the infotainment center is glitchy, the infotainment center will disconnect from phone calls while driving handsfree while plugged in via wired CarPlay (the car cannot do bluetooth for CarPlay). The infotainment center sometimes is completely unusable - including radio- directions for CarPlay are not usable - no sound from the radio - no ability to adjust car settings when its in failure mode - including parking controls - driving modes - temputratre controls. The lights are hit and miss - sometimes they won't come when pressed or sometimes won't go off when they are pressed to go off. The problems according to the dealer cannot be reproduced - even though I have videos of the issues. When there is an error code on the vehicle and I have taken it in they say that there are no codes - which is a sing to me that the car is malfunctioning as they say the codes should be there. The vehicle for two days this year would make the information call repeatedly and did this roughly 100 times in two days. It finally stopped the day I went to take it in to the dealer. The dealer replaced the radio after my first week due to infotainment and backup camera issues. The dealer replaced it with a recalled part and it is recorded in my Repair Orders (ROs). They said it was the last radio in the entire US and world and they couldn't replace it again. I didn't find out that it was recalled until October 2025 as I was researching the recalls and reviewing my ROs and noticed the same part listed on my ROs. I have taken the vehicle in multiple times and they have not replaced or provided a viable solution that fixes the multiple issues. I paid for the vehicle and extended warranty it was $45k. They treated me like I was a nobody when we all are somebody's. Too much to type.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: REARVIEW SYSTEM BRAKING

I am reporting a recurring safety-related malfunction involving the backup camera, proximity sensors, and infotainment system on my 2024 Volkswagen GTI. These components are still installed on the vehicle and available for inspection upon request. I purchased the vehicle on August 5, 2024, from King Volkswagen in Gaithersburg, MD. The following day, the system began failing repeatedly. When the issue occurs, there is a loud popping sound from the speakers, the infotainment screen shuts off and reboots, and a warning light appears on the dashboard indicating a system fault. This has happened more than 80 times so far, sometimes multiple times per day. This malfunction creates a safety risk because the backup camera and pedestrian/vehicle detection alerts become unreliable or unavailable at critical moments. The sudden audio pop and system reset are also distracting while driving. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership several times and provided video recordings showing the failure. I have even spoken with the sales manager in person and never got back to me like promised. The dealer has stated they cannot replicate the issue and has only attempted software resets or updates. The problem has not been confirmed or repaired by the dealer, and the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. The warning light and system resets first appeared the day after purchase and have continued without any prior message or indication before each failure. This ongoing malfunction affects essential safety systems, and I am requesting a formal investigation and resolution.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

- Recurring intermittent failure of the backup camera on this vehicle. The camera intermittently turns off while vehicle is in Reverse. - This has occurred numerous times while the vehicle was moving and in the presence of pedestrians and other vehicles creating a hazardous driving situation due to the sudden loss of visibility. - The dealer claimed to remedy the problem by using a software update, but the issue remains. - The component has not received inspection from any other entity or organization except for the dealer. - The car will often flash warning lights on the instrument cluster associated with all the advanced driver assistance systems. This will sometimes occur during a camera problem, but not always. Unfortunately, I have no way to view a history or log of the instances when the advanced driver assistance systems malfunctioned.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

NHTSA Recall 24V-110 (VW 20UF). The vehicle is in Limp Mode and experiencing low oil pressure symptoms. It is also subject to Recall 24V-110, which identifies a fire risk due to fuel leakage. Despite the safety hazard, the local Volkswagen dealership has refused to perform the recall repair or diagnose the vehicle, stating it is at their 'discretion.' I am reporting a failure by the manufacturer and the dealer to remedy an active safety defect, leaving me with an unsafe, undriveable vehicle."

2024 Volkswagen GTI Olmsted Township, OH

BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS

I believe the malfunction exists within the car's electronic system. The vehicle could potentially be up for inspection. When the issue I am describing occurs, it prevents the user from being able to use the backup camera, change the climate controls, and utilize the rear traffic alert and the park distance control. I have taken my vehicle to the dealership multiple times since purchase for them to say they are unable to replicate the issue I describe. However, one time I took my vehicle in, the issue that would occur became slightly different. To me, this demonstrates something was changed, but as a temporary fix. Additionally, a quick Google search indicates this is a common issue. Prior to this issue appearing, there were no other symptoms. The first recorded instance I have of this is on 04/08/2024, only 7 days after purchasing the vehicle.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

Travel Assist is disabled which includes Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist. The warning lights flash on and off, sometimes multiple times a second, sounding a loud beeping each time. It is triggered at engine start and persists through all speeds. I have experienced it 0-70 mph. The flashing lights and associated rapid beeping indicating the failure is extremely distracting while driving. Warning lights and warning sounds are designed to alert the driver to a potential safety issue so ignoring the lights and sounds is dangerous in the event it is a different caution/warning. However, also not ignoring it is dangerous because of the frequency of the warnings which causes the driver to look away from the road. After speaking with the maintenance department at my VW dealership, they indicated that this is a widely known problem that is remedied only with the replacement of the steering wheel. There are several other sensors that are triggered by the same issue I was told by the maintenance department. They are uncertain at this time if it impacts the airbag system which is another potential safety concern. The steering wheel can only be ordered after inspection by the maintenance department and there is shortage and/or back order of the part to fix the problem.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

On Wednesday October 15th, 2025 something occurred either via an update or on the back-end of VW's connected services platforms that started causing infotainment system crashes on various VW-brand vehicles across the United States. At this time, 3 days later, the infotainment system will boot up, freeze, reboot again, freeze again, do this 2-3 more times before fully crashing and not turning back on. With this offline access to the following features becomes inaccessible: forward collision avoidance, forward and rear cross traffic avoidance, adaptive cruise control, reversing camera, emergency SOS function, road sign detection, emergency notifications, blind spot monitoring, HVAC controls including defroster switches, navigation, AM/FM/Satellite/Online radio, Apple Carplay, and Android Auto. VW has acknowledged a problem exists (https://www.vw.com/en/help-center.html/__app/article/000010441.app), however, they have not provided any information to customers about what the actual cause is or what their plans to resolve the issue are. As of October 17th local dealership service centers were blaming SiriusXM for the problem and telling owners there was nothing that could be done currently and to just wait it out.

LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING

1) Yes, the Travel Assist warning light comes on and says, "Trave Assist is currently not available." It then clears the warning and flashing again repetitively and loudly while driving blocking the instrument cluster and distracting the driver. This warning indicator is not accurate as the travel assist functions of the car remain working while this light and ding continue to repeat. 2) The warning light blocks the instrument cluster and continues to flash repedetively as a loud "ding" sometimes 5 or 10 times in a row, which is highly distracting and is a false warning for actual problems the car could be experiencing especially during highway driving. 3) Yes, I have video of this and there is ample evidence of other vehicle drivers of the Mk8 VW GTI (2022-2025) with this same issue. Some have replaced multiple steering wheels, like I have without a permanent solution and others have started selling an aftermarket KLR module to replace the VW one. 4) Yes, the vehicle maintains constant annual inspections and is covered still under warranty with VW inspecting the problem. 5) Yes, the issue appeared about 6 months into ownership and then has repeated constantly throughout. Somehow VW claims they are not aware of the issue despite the endless online communication on VW forums about this issue and even an entire aftermarket for a replacement KLR module. I am only filling this out because VW claims to be unaware of this issue as a larger problem outside of my car despite the endless cases I have found online. They told me that this is the method of informing them, hence my submission.
