I started my car and drove to a local 7-11 on my way to work and could not turn the key to shut the engine off. I proceeded to work and asked my friend to help me. After a struggle he got the key out,and 3 days later parked my car at a clients only to not be able to start the car. My steering wheel locking was random and was afraid it would lock up while driving. Was told at the dealership there was no recall even after I searched and found this to be problem enough that VW extended their warranty

The component that is failing is the infotainment center. Cruise control fails. Yes available for inspection. The safety of my car is compromised and puts myself and others at risk. The backup camera fails - the infotainment center is glitchy, the infotainment center will disconnect from phone calls while driving handsfree while plugged in via wired CarPlay (the car cannot do bluetooth for CarPlay). The infotainment center sometimes is completely unusable - including radio- directions for CarPlay are not usable - no sound from the radio - no ability to adjust car settings when its in failure mode - including parking controls - driving modes - temputratre controls. The lights are hit and miss - sometimes they won't come when pressed or sometimes won't go off when they are pressed to go off. The problems according to the dealer cannot be reproduced - even though I have videos of the issues. When there is an error code on the vehicle and I have taken it in they say that there are no codes - which is a sing to me that the car is malfunctioning as they say the codes should be there. The vehicle for two days this year would make the information call repeatedly and did this roughly 100 times in two days. It finally stopped the day I went to take it in to the dealer. The dealer replaced the radio after my first week due to infotainment and backup camera issues. The dealer replaced it with a recalled part and it is recorded in my Repair Orders (ROs). They said it was the last radio in the entire US and world and they couldn't replace it again. I didn't find out that it was recalled until October 2025 as I was researching the recalls and reviewing my ROs and noticed the same part listed on my ROs. I have taken the vehicle in multiple times and they have not replaced or provided a viable solution that fixes the multiple issues. I paid for the vehicle and extended warranty it was $45k. They treated me like I was a nobody when we all are somebody's. Too much to type.

- Recurring intermittent failure of the backup camera on this vehicle. The camera intermittently turns off while vehicle is in Reverse. - This has occurred numerous times while the vehicle was moving and in the presence of pedestrians and other vehicles creating a hazardous driving situation due to the sudden loss of visibility. - The dealer claimed to remedy the problem by using a software update, but the issue remains. - The component has not received inspection from any other entity or organization except for the dealer. - The car will often flash warning lights on the instrument cluster associated with all the advanced driver assistance systems. This will sometimes occur during a camera problem, but not always. Unfortunately, I have no way to view a history or log of the instances when the advanced driver assistance systems malfunctioned.

I am reporting a water intrusion issue involving the rear hatch area of my 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI Autobahn. Water leaks into the vehicle through the hatch wiring boot area and travels into the interior of the car, causing the headliner to become saturated with water. During periods of rain or after washing the vehicle, water enters near the rubber hatch wiring boots and leaks into the interior roof area. The vehicle has two rubber hatch boots (left and right) that route wiring harnesses from the body to the liftgate. These harnesses carry wiring for several rear hatch components including the backup camera, center high-mount brake light, rear wiper motor, hatch release switch, rear defroster, license plate lights, and other electrical systems located in the liftgate. Water intrusion in this area can allow moisture to travel along the wiring harnesses and into the vehicle interior, resulting in a soaked headliner and moisture accumulation inside the cabin. Because these wiring boots contain electrical harnesses for important components such as the center brake light and backup camera, continued water exposure could potentially lead to electrical faults, corrosion, or failure of these systems. The vehicle has approximately 23,000 miles. The leak occurs during normal weather conditions such as rain. Numerous owners of similar Volkswagen Golf and GTI/R vehicles have reported similar rear hatch water intrusion issues. I have been scared to drive the car in the rain and wash my car after the incident. The hatch boots have been replaced twice per side and are still causing issues. I request that this issue be investigated as a potential design or sealing defect allowing water to enter the passenger compartment and electrical harness areas.

I believe the malfunction exists within the car's electronic system. The vehicle could potentially be up for inspection. When the issue I am describing occurs, it prevents the user from being able to use the backup camera, change the climate controls, and utilize the rear traffic alert and the park distance control. I have taken my vehicle to the dealership multiple times since purchase for them to say they are unable to replicate the issue I describe. However, one time I took my vehicle in, the issue that would occur became slightly different. To me, this demonstrates something was changed, but as a temporary fix. Additionally, a quick Google search indicates this is a common issue. Prior to this issue appearing, there were no other symptoms. The first recorded instance I have of this is on 04/08/2024, only 7 days after purchasing the vehicle.

At around 38,000 miles (4 years into my lease), the airbag warning light came on in my 2021 Volkswagen GTI. Pasadena Volkswagen inspected the vehicle and confirmed the airbag control module had failed due to water intrusion from a clogged A/C drain tube, with a repair estimate of $1,974. Because the module is damaged, the airbag system is disabled and will not deploy in a crash, which puts my safety and the safety of passengers at risk. Volkswagen Customer Care (Case #07065500) reviewed the issue but declined assistance, stating my VIN is not part of Recall 21V-892, even though the defect matches the recall description exactly. The failed part remains in the vehicle and can be inspected upon request.

Rear back-up camera fails repeatedly. The image portrayed on the dash is garbled and I am unable to determine vehicles, obstacles or persons behind me when backing. Problem is very reproducible although the dealer has not diagnosed the problem. The car is out of warranty. The only message displayed on the screen is something like "Park Pilot error".

Travel Assist is disabled which includes Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist. The warning lights flash on and off, sometimes multiple times a second, sounding a loud beeping each time. It is triggered at engine start and persists through all speeds. I have experienced it 0-70 mph. The flashing lights and associated rapid beeping indicating the failure is extremely distracting while driving. Warning lights and warning sounds are designed to alert the driver to a potential safety issue so ignoring the lights and sounds is dangerous in the event it is a different caution/warning. However, also not ignoring it is dangerous because of the frequency of the warnings which causes the driver to look away from the road. After speaking with the maintenance department at my VW dealership, they indicated that this is a widely known problem that is remedied only with the replacement of the steering wheel. There are several other sensors that are triggered by the same issue I was told by the maintenance department. They are uncertain at this time if it impacts the airbag system which is another potential safety concern. The steering wheel can only be ordered after inspection by the maintenance department and there is shortage and/or back order of the part to fix the problem.

The steering wheel clockspring mechanism has failed causing the vehicle steering wheel operated controls (including the horn) to stop working. The airbag warning lamp illuminated on the dashboard, indicating the airbag system may not be functional. Apparently Volkswagen has issued a recall/extended the warranty on many VW models in light of the high failure rate of the clockspring mechanism, however my 2017 GTI is not currently covered. Perhaps the recall/extended warranty should be expanded in scope.

I have a 2023 VW GTI with a manual transmission. It has a feature called "Hill Hold Assist", where it enables the parking brake when you are uphill and at a stop, at a red traffic light, for example. The issue is the feature does not disengage the parking brake for about 3 seconds after you engage the gas to begin moving the car. It basically holds the car for too long when you are trying to get moving. This feature has become more of a hinderance and safety concern, than an assistance: 1) Almost rear ended by another car as the Hill Hold Assist would not disengage at a traffic light 2) The amount of gas and clutch use while the car is being held in place while engaged negatively impacts the longevity of the clutch 3) In the case of an emergency, I am unable to move the vehicle when I need to - this is most concerning. This function would not be an issue if there was a way to disable "Hill Hold Assist", or reduce the time it takes to disengage, but unfortunately Volkswagen did not include a way to disable or adjust this feature in the vehicle's software. I previously had a 2018 GTI, manual transmission, with the same feature. It was far less aggressive, and it could be disabled if needed. Please consider this a safety concern and address with Volkswagen of North America, as I have made several calls to VW with no resolution. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact attempted to make a left turn and noticed that the travel assist feature became inoperable. The contact stated that the Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist inadvertently became inoperable. The contact stated that the steering wheel inadvertently made a left turn to ongoing traffic and the contact forcefully turned to the right, making the vehicle difficult to control. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed by the dealer that there was a waiting list for a loaner vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000.

It will some times ding 20 times in a minute with associated warning display on the dash. Warning lights and warning sounds are designed to alert the driver to a potential safety issue so ignoring the lights and sounds is dangerous in the event it is a different caution/warning. However, also not ignoring it is dangerous because of the frequency of the warnings which causes the driver to look away from the road. Quick internet research and discussions with the dealer show this is a widely experienced issue with this model of car (among others). After speaking with the maintenance department at my VW dealership, they indicated that this is a widely known problem that is remedied only with the replacement of the steering wheel. My steering wheel was replaced when the car was just over a year old. The "fix" was temporary and has now recurred. There are several other sensors that are triggered by the same issue I was told by the maintenance department. They are uncertain at this time if it impacts the airbag system which is another potential safety concern. The steering wheel can only be ordered after inspection by the maintenance department and there is shortage and/or back order of the part to fix the problem. It took two months last time to get the steering wheel. Despite there being the same issue this time, they suggest a different part. Volkswagen not doing anything to remedy this problem Waiting on steering wheel and not permit fix has put this car outside the lemon laws in my state.

The contact stated that upon shifting the vehicle into park, a message displayed reading "Please Place the Vehicle in Park," failing to recognize that the shifter was already in park. The contact also stated that the failure prevented the doors from being locked manually or by using the key fob. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V464000 (Steering, Electrical System) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.

The warning light went on engine oil pressure off. Search manual. Then it wouldn't start. But lights where on so we put a new starter. But it wouldn't turn the engine. So We thought it must be the battery needs a jump start. And then wire from battery to starter caught on fire? I Googled the problem, and found that there had been recalls for that faulty wire before.

I purchased the vehicle base in March of 2022. The SOS, Travel and Parking assist warning lights started coming on in August 2022. I took it in for service. They kept the car for a couple of days because they didn't know how to fix the issue. Finally they were told by VW to replace the steering wheel with hope of this resolving the issue. The steering wheel was replace and the issue went away only to come back around November 2022. I took the vehicle in once again and was told that a newer steering wheel is now available and they will replace the one they put in back in August with this newer version. They however don't have an ETA of when the steering wheel will become available. This was back in December when they ordered the steering wheel. It's now almost April 2023 and I haven't heard any updates on the availability of the steering wheel. The warning lights comes on every single time I drive the vehicle and it's to the point of being a nuisance because the lights come on at light 15 to 20 times and each time they come on, they omit a loud beeping noise which is driving me up a wall. I don't really drive the car because of this. Now VW is telling me that my Safe and Secure subscription (which expired in March 2023) needs to be paid in full in order to continue the service even though VW put out a statement stating that this feature will be free to all VW customers for 5 years. I'm basically paying $79.50 for April and May then receiving the feature for no charge starting in June which makes zero sense. I am beyond livid at this point and voe to never purchase another VW manufactured product due to all the stress I've endured while owning this new 2022 vehicle (which should not have any issues from the start). VW sold me a very defective product. I even had to have a new radiator install and the car only has 7K miles on it as of today (3/29/23).

problem unknown, but I was driving at 40mph in 4th gear when my rpm’s dropped to zero and my battery light came on and I had a total loss of power and was unable to accelerate, when I pulled over and stepped on the gas pedal it did not rev and rpm’s stayed at zero. This was very dangerous. This happened again a couple weeks later driving in second gear when the same thing happened. The only thing I could do was pull over and restart my car and everything seemed functional again after restarting. I took it to an auto shop where they said it was my throttle body and cleaned it out but a week later while sitting in my car with the radio and air conditioning on my car does the same thing where the rpm’s drop to zero and battery light comes on, engine is still running, ac stops blowing cold, radio flashes off and back on and unable to apply gas as it would do nothing. I had to restart the car to regain function. The last time this happened I was stopped at a red light and again the Rpm’s drop to zero and battery light comes but the engine is still running, I have to quickly restart the car again as it seems the only way to reset it. This is just ridiculous and absolutely dangerous, how can a car just suddenly decide to lose all power to the gas pedal. If I was on the freeway or traffic I could cause a huge accident because of this issue. This needs to be fixed asap.
