Safety Hazard: Stalling at Speed: This defect causes an immediate loss of propulsion. If this occurs during highway merging or high-speed maneuvers, the driver faces an abrupt loss of power steering and braking assist, significantly increasing the risk of a high-speed rear-end collision. Imminent Seizure: Total oil pressure loss can lead to crankshaft seizure, potentially locking the drive wheels and causing a loss of vehicle control. Technical Evidence: BMW has released an updated part (P/N 11419895359) that replaces the plastic internals with a metal housing, acknowledging the original design is insufficient for the thermal loads of the engine. Post-repair inspection of my vehicle showed significant carbonized "soot" in the filter, indicating that the pump's underperformance caused localized overheating of the lubricant prior to the final failure. Request: NHTSA should open an investigation into the B58 oil pump (2019–2021 models) to determine the failure rate of the plastic-ring units. Specifically, "VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTUTRED WITH A CRANKSHAFT SENSOR, THAT DUE TO SENSOR FIRMWARE, CANNOT ACCURATELY PROCESS THE INPUT FROM THE CRANKSHAFT RELUCTOR RING. BASIS FOR RECALL POPULATION DETERMINATION: SUPPLIER PRODUCTION INFORMATION WAS USED TO IDENTIFY THE START AND END DATE OF THE AFFECTED CRANKSHAFT SENSORS WHICH THEN CORRELATED WITH ENGINE PRODUCTION AND VEHICLE ASSEMBLY INFORMATION TO DETERMINE THE START DATE (5/18/2018) AND THE END DATE (06/08/2018) OF THE AFFECTED VEHCILES." This vehicle was towed to a factory authorized dealership - all aspects of the malfunction mimicked the description in the recall. the Authorized dealer confirmed the sensor failure and proceeded to replace the defective crank sensor as per recall protocol. Authorized BMW Dealer and BMW Customer Service have refused 18V-465 Recall participation per, "After reviewing your request, the recall you referenced does not apply to your vehicle. Recalls are VIN-specific, and I can confirm there are no active recalls associated with your VIN at this time" Repair invoice was paid in full by vehicle owner for the crank Sensor Replacement. Considering that the issue at hand is a manufacturing failure depicted by a faulty firmware product (sounds like an intermittent or bad production circuit within the Crank Sensor computer chip), and with this vehicles in question produced just prior to the Factory implied recall production date -- might it be possible that the professed faulty firmware (ship) within the Crank sensor regulated in 18V-465 may have encountered some early production failures even previous the factory stipulated VIN date of 5/15/2028? Would it be advisable at this juncture for NHSTA to revisit 18V-465 to include and an all-defective Crank Sensors encountered that may be a causation for this safety recall? Thank you.

I contacted the dealership where I purchased my vehicle called Global Imports on December 6 because the car was running hot. I arrived on Saturday morning was informed that the radiator was leaking and a water pump was leaking that they both needed to be replaced and I would be charged around $3000 to replace it. There were no recalls the service bulletins that I mentioned they advised me were only repair notifications. They said there were no other notifications regarding the radiator only to have the check engine light come back on a week later I took it to a different dealership and I was advised that the 15 year warranty on the flaps which the flaps are not functioning properly. I was advised to take it back to Global Imports .

Vehicle has severely poor quality coolant hoses made from poor quality material that cannot withstand the flow of pressure within the coolant system process. Leading to the hoses deteriorating from internal pressure thus causing the coolant hoses to leak. The coolant sensors only indicate low coolant levels when there is, 1 and 3/4 inches of coolant liquid left which is 70% lower than the minimum coolant line within the main coolant reservoir which can then lead to engine failure that could result into a vehicle accident or wreck causing injury or even death. This problem has been commonly known and reported throughout the BMW community for BMW’s with the Generation 1 & 2 B58 engine models. I have taken my vehicle to two local BMW Dealerships in my surrounding area and have been notified by those dealerships that the hoses have been tested and tried under extreme conditions and that the quality should not be pertaining to the coolant leak issue rather that the coolant leak issue is effected by age and wear and tear and possibility of environmental debris or other environmental factors depending on the state and area the vehicle is based and driven in. I find that statement given by both dealerships to be inaccurate as myself and other BMW owner’s have had these issues within 50,000 miles or less and the vehicle being garage kept and only obtained between 10,000-12,000 miles annually. I sincerely branch out to the National Highway Safety Administration for additional support in holding the manufacturer accountable for it’s irresponsibility to not take corrective action on the documented common issue within the Generation 1 & 2 B58 engine models.

On Feb.3, 2023, my wife made a turn into a parking lot. She was driving our 2022 BMW 540. She paused and the engine began to rev up. It then shot forward nearly 50 feet and hurled her over a meridian into another car. She pressed as hard as she could on the brake and suffered a torn meniscus ligament. There were no warning lights and although the car hit front right, no airbags were executed. BMW has not sent an official detailed report from their engineer. BMW advertises brake override so pressing both the brake and accelerator would NOT result in this event.

IMMEDIATELY I NOTICED THAT I DIDN'T HAVE ANY POWER STEERING. AS I DROVE MY ENGINE TEMPERATURE GOT HIGHER AND I BARELY MADE IT HOME WITHOUT OVERHEATING. A FEW DAYS LATER I LOOKED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND SAW THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD BROKEN FREE OF THE ENGINE - THE BRACKET HAD SHEARED OFF. THAT IN TURN CAUSED THE BELT TO FALL OFF WHICH WAS TURNING THE WATER PUMP AND ALTERNATOR. I GOT ON THE COMPUTER AND LOOKED UP THE PROBLEM AND FOUND A LOT OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM, SOME DRIVING DURING THE INCIDENT. FIRST THE BRACKET BROCKET PUTTING THE PUMP AT A STEEP ANGLE N FORCING THE BELT TO GO OFF TRACK WHICH THEN CAUSED ALL THE OTHER ACCESSORIES TO BE DISABLED INCLUDING THE WATER PUMP WHICH OVERHEATED THE CAR.

THE BLOWER MOTOR IS ON A ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT THAT USES A 30AMP FUSE RECOMMENDED BY BMW, WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE FUSE BOX COVER, TO REGULATE THE RATE THE BLOWER MOTOR CAN RECEIVE 12VOLTS. WHEN THE BLOWER MOTOR ITSELF REQUIRES 12VOLTS AT A RATE OF 12AMPS TO OPERATE NORMALLY. WHEN THE BLOWER MOTOR BEGINS TO FAIL, THE RESISTANCE IN THE CIRCUIT DROPS AND INCREASES THE RATE AT WHICH THE BLOWER MOTOR RECEIVES 12VOLTS, INCREASING THE AMPS (CURRENT) IN THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT, WHICH ALSO INCREASES THE WATTAGE THE BLOWER UNIT RECEIVES. AMPS X VOLTS = WATTS, THE UNIT NEEDS 12AMPS X 12VOLTS = 144WATTS TO OPERATE, BUT ENDS UP GETTING 30AMPS X 12VOLTS = 360WATTS. THAT IS 216WATTS MORE THAN THE BLOWER MOTOR SHOULD RECEIVE. WHICH IS WHY THE BLOWER MOTOR AND THE FINAL STAGE RESISTOR WHICH ARE BOTH ON THE SAME ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT HEAT UP TO EXTREMELY HIGH TEMPERATURES THAT CAN EASILY CAUSE 3RD DEGREE BURNS, AND ALLOWED THE COMPONENTS TO IGNITE THE TREE LEAVES AND PINE NEEDLES THAT WERE BEING FILTERED. EVERY UNIT THAT IS CONFIGURED IN THIS WAY IS A FIRE HAZARD, AND IS DANGEROUS TO EVERYONE BECAUSE THE FIRE CAN START ANYTIME THE BLOWER MOTOR IS USED, AND THERE IS NO WAY OF TELLING IT IS FAILING UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE AND THERE IS A FIRE INSIDE OF YOUR CAR.
