My rear view camera is fuzzy and today it went out completely and the screen was black. Sometimes it shows what’s behind the car when I’m backing and then suddenly the screen goes black and I’m unable to see anything. It just started today 6/15/26z . I believe this is a safety hazard and could cause an accident while backing up putting myself and others at risk . There was no warning before this happened, I just noticed the screen was fuzzy on one side, then the fuzziness would go to the other side of the screen . I wasn’t sure what was happening until it completely went black .
NHTSA complaint #11757213 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Manufacturer Recall NumberN262551720 NHTSA Recall Number26V212 received an official recall notice regarding a backup camera issue for my 2024 Chevrolet Malibu back in April. However, it has been 4 months, and the dealership/manufacturer still has not provided a fix or parts to resolve the issue. Driving without a functioning backup camera poses a serious safety hazard, and the prolonged delay is unacceptable. I am requesting NHTSA's assistance in urging the manufacturer to expedite the remedy or provide appropriate support.
NHTSA complaint #11753206 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I am writing to log an official safety complaint regarding my 2023 Chevrolet Malibu. This vehicle is included under active NHTSA Campaign Number 26V212000 (GM Internal Recall Number N262551720) for a defective rearview camera housing that allows moisture intrusion, causing the backup display to go blank. My vehicle has experienced a complete, permanent failure of the rearview camera screen. The backup display is entirely black/blank when the vehicle is placed in reverse, eliminating all rear visibility. This creates an immediate, active safety hazard during everyday backing maneuvers and non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.Despite the recall being announced months ago, General Motors has failed to provide a timely remedy or allocate replacement parts to my local dealership. Because my camera has actively failed, I am being forced to operate an unsafe vehicle indefinitely due to manufacturer parts delays. I request that the NHTSA investigate GM’s failure to supply remedy components to vehicle owners experiencing active component failures, as this delay leaves a known crash risk unresolved.

To Whom It May Concern, I am the owner of a 2023 Chevrolet Malibu that is affected by the ongoing backup camera safety recall. I am submitting this complaint because this defect is not a minor inconvenience—it is a serious safety issue that places me, my family, pedestrians, and other motorists at risk every time the vehicle is operatesThe rearview camera system is a federally required safety feature designed to help drivers detect people, vehicles, and obstacles behind the vehicle. When the camera fails, freezes, goes blank, displays a distorted image, or does not activate properly when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, I am left without a critical safety system that I relied upon when purchasing this vehicle This defect has significantly reduced my confidence in the safety and reliability of my Chevrolet Malibu. A vehicle with a known safety recall involving visibility and accident prevention creates constant concern, especially when backing out of parking spaces, residential driveways, crowded parking lots, and areas where children or pedestrians may be present. The possibility of striking a person, vehicle, or object because a manufacturer-installed safety system fails is unacceptable. I purchased this vehicle in good faith expecting Chevrolet to provide a safe and dependable product. Instead, I am driving a vehicle that has been identified as having a safety-related defect serious enough to warrant a recall. While recalls are intended to correct safety issues, owners should not be left dealing with uncertainty regarding when the problem will be fully resolved or whether additional failures may occur in the future. Because this defect directly impacts a critical safety system and has diminished my trust in the vehicle, I respectfully request that General Motors and Chevrolet review my case for additional relief beyond the standard recall repair. Specifically, I am requesting consideration for a vehicle replacement, manufacturer-assisted trade-in, buyout

Subject: Safety Complaint and Request for Assistance – 2023 Chevrolet Malibu Backup Camera Recall To Whom It May Concern, I am the owner of a 2023 Chevrolet Malibu that has been affected by the backup camera recall. The malfunctioning backup camera creates a serious safety hazard for me, my passengers, pedestrians, and other drivers. The backup camera intermittently fails to display properly when the vehicle is placed in reverse. When this occurs, I am unable to clearly see objects, vehicles, or people behind my vehicle as intended by the safety system. This significantly increases the risk of an accident, especially in parking lots, residential areas, and other locations where pedestrians may be present. I purchased this vehicle with the expectation that all safety systems would function reliably. The ongoing issue has caused me concern and has reduced my confidence in the vehicle’s ability to operate safely. A backup camera is an important safety feature, and any failure of this system places drivers and the public at unnecessary risk. Given the seriousness of this recall and the inconvenience and safety concerns it has caused, I respectfully request that Chevrolet review my situation and consider available remedies, including replacement of the vehicle, a vehicle trade-in assistance program, or another appropriate resolution that ensures my safety and restores my confidence in the product. I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to a prompt response regarding the options available to address this safety concern. NHTSA complaint #11745160 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The rear camera comes “loose” and does not register all the time. It seems to be a simple electric issue; possibly an electrical short. I believe it can be easily “fixed” (temporarily) by opening the trunk and running fingers over the camera, it should not happen. I purchased my Malibu new and seldomly drive, approximately 25k miles. I maintain proper maintenance and ensure cleanliness to avoid dust or particles inside the camera or electric components. This should not happen. The wiring should not become loose nor cause the camera to turn off. Chevy dealerships do not acknowledge the issue and expect the car owners to repair the entire electrical system. Definitely should be a recall item!
NHTSA complaint #11722672 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Headlight wiring harness connector has melted multiple times leaving me without low beam headlights while driving at night with my children in the car. This has left me having to use my high beams to drive and this poses as a safety hazard for not only me and my family but other people on the road. This also poses a fire hazard if the plastic connector is getting hot enoughto melt. I have requested warranty replacements for this part through AC Delco and made them aware of the on going problem and informed them that this is a well known issue with this car and that it is extremely dangerous. I have not had the part inspected by a mechanic, insurance company or law enforcement but have the failed part and would be willing to have it inspected by law enforcement or anyone else but can not afford out of pocket expenses to do so. There was no prior warning to this happening any of the times it happened it would be working when I left my house I would stop somewhere turn the car off and when I got back in and started the car they wouldn't turn on. Another time they quit working while driving down the road. The date below is the date that I ordered the first replacement wiring harness it lasted less than 3 months and i had to have it replaced and currently I am dealing with not having low beams again this is the 3rd time I have dealt with this issue and it has been on going since January 2025.

Passenger and or driver side low beam headlight continues to go out. Mechanic has found connector keeps burning out the socket. Light is burnt out on bott sides. but connector is shorting out. Fire and safety issue. This issue is on a lot of chevrolet malibus and needs a recall initiated to correct these issues. I keep getting pulled over due to need to us high beams and not having low beams. This is reoccurring and getting expensive to be done over and over.

The defrost control does not engage properly causing very poor visual conditions. Has been this way for a long time now and have not been able to get it fixed. If this problem does not get fixed soon I feel it will cause an accident. Thank you for your time.

Water was leaking through the center high mount stop lamp and pooling into the spare tire well. Water was also soaking through the rear headliner. Condensation was building up inside the vehicle due to the pooled water and water soaked headliner. Condensation buildup inside the vehicle with numerous electrical components is not safe. The vehicle has been taken to the Galleria Chevrolet dealership in Dallas, Texas for repairs. Galleria Chevrolet failed to repair the issue even after giving them notice of the service bulletin [XXX] Center High Mount Stop Lamp Water Leak. How would I know if my car was involved in that recall or if it was fixed. Because right now I am having trouble with front windshield defrost and also the rear window defrost and I see that was a recall and I don’t know if my car was done

Sudden and complete loss of windshield wipers while on the interstate in a intense rain storm. Driving the vehicle became impossible and stopping on the shoulder was dangerous because other drivers were dealing with poor vision because of the intense rain and came close to hitting me several times. THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING CONDITION. My research found that this is not an isolated problem as multiple years and models (vans as well cars) are affected. The cause of the failure was caused by failure of the windshield wiper transmission, linkage and bushing that a part of or attached thereto.
