Transmission has jerked and shuttered ever since I bought the truck. Sometime when you push on the gas the truck doesn’t immediate go, then suddenly jerks into gear and speeds off! It has gone in several times but all they do is software updates. They also said I needed a transmission flush at only 43,000 miles stating an inferior trans fluid was originally used; however they wouldn’t covered it under my extended warranty

I was driving my 2019 Chevy Silverado TrailBoss with 81,000 miles at 65MPH on I-80 East in Omaha, NE, when 3 warning lights came on. The first was the Service Parking Brake. The second was Service ESC. The final was a flashing Check Engine light. My truck started backfiring/misfiring, making a loud ticking noise, and running extremely rough. I was trying to merge off the interstate, but it was running so rough that it made it very difficult to do so safely. Eventually, I just had to finish going where I was headed and park it in the lot. I did some research and called my local shop. They said to stop driving immediately and have it towed to them for inspection. They used a diagnostic tool and diagnosed the issue as a DFM lifter failure. But they could not fix it there and recommended I take it to a different shop. I had it towed again, and they did their own diagnostics and have the same idea, but without taking the engine completely apart, they can't tell for sure. They want to charge me $1,250.00 to inspect it further. I called the dealer where I purchased the truck back in 2019 and am working with them on next steps. The last shop quoted me $7,800 repair if it is indeed the DFM lifters. Based on what I know, this is a known issue with these trucks. GM has an "Out of Warranty Policy Assistance" in place just for these know lifter issues. This is very concerning that GM hasn't done a recall on these parts as it has shown to be a safety issue when driving the vehicle in traffic on the interstate. I just hope that GM assists me with the repair costs because it is not guaranteed and I cannot afford $7,800 right now.

I am reporting a potential safety defect involving my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 Trail Boss (VIN [XXX]), currently at approximately 63,000 miles. My truck suddenly developed a rough idle, engine ticking, and a cylinder 3 misfire. The check engine, traction control, parking brake, and “Service ESC” warnings appeared. The transmission also began shifting extremely hard, at times feeling as though another vehicle had struck the truck from behind. The oil pressure gauge also stopped functioning. Due to these symptoms, I stopped driving the vehicle. A diagnostic scan produced P0303, P0449, P0498, P0499 and P0500. After replacing a failed cylinder 3 spark plug, the truck initially ran perfectly for approximately 20 minutes before the rough idle and warning lights returned. The vehicle was subsequently diagnosed by a Chevrolet dealership. The dealership determined that the engine suffered a collapsed lifter that damaged the camshaft and other internal engine components. The engine repair estimate is approximately $10,000–$12,000. The dealership has also reported that the transmission is slipping and believes the torque converter/transmission requires approximately another $6,300 in repairs. I am concerned that a lifter/DFM-related failure causing a misfire, rough running and potential loss of engine power could occur while a vehicle is traveling at highway speed and create a significant safety hazard. The severe transmission shifting and subsequent slipping are also concerning because unexpected vehicle behavior during acceleration or while in traffic could increase the risk of a crash. The truck has been regularly maintained and has relatively low mileage for its age. I am requesting that NHTSA review whether similar engine/lifter/DFM and related powertrain failures represent a broader safety defect and whether an investigation or recall is warranted. Third transmission failure in 10 months on this vehicle (8-speed automatic). (1) Oct 2025, 67,885 miles: transmission shuddering; dealer replaced the complete transmission with a GM remanufactured unit under extended warranty (RO 240481, Nucar Lannan Chevrolet of Woburn, MA). (2) Jul 2026, 82,439 miles: vehicle would not shift on the highway while driving; DTC P2824 stored; dealer replaced the transmission valve body under warranty (RO 248929). (3) Aug 3, 2026, approx. 82,500 miles — three days after the valve body repair was returned to me — the transmission locked up and the vehicle would not shift gears while in traffic. Loss of gear engagement while driving creates risk of a crash from sudden loss of propulsion. Vehicle is back at the dealership now for the third repair. This vehicle's 8-speed transmission (8L90/8L45 family) is the subject of known shudder/valve-body defect litigation covering 2015–2019 Silverado models.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The transmission and drivetrain system appear to be defective. The vehicle repeatedly experiences hard shifting, transmission shudder, hesitation during acceleration, delayed engagement when shifting into gear, and erratic gear changes. These problems occur during normal driving and have progressively worsened over time. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The transmission hesitation and delayed acceleration create a serious safety hazard. When pulling into traffic, crossing intersections, or changing lanes, the vehicle does not respond immediately when the accelerator is pressed. The delay leaves the vehicle exposed to oncoming traffic and increases the risk of a collision. The hard shifting and shuddering also cause the vehicle to behave unpredictably, reducing driver confidence and making it unsafe to operate in normal traffic conditions. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The problem is consistently reproducible during everyday driving. The transmission shudders, hesitates, and shifts harshly on a regular basis. Although the condition is intermittent in severity, it occurs frequently enough to create ongoing safety concerns. At this time, the vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. The vehicle remains available for inspection. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The first symptoms were occasional hard shifts and slight hesitation during acceleration. Over time, the condition worsened, progressing to severe shuddering, delayed acceleration, and increasingly harsh gear changes. No warning lights or diagnostic messages appeared when the symptoms first began, making it difficult to identify the problem before it be

I've had a unknown problem with my transmission since I've owned my truck, Took it back to two different GM dealership and one said it was low on transmission fluid after keeping it for about two weeks, So I took it to another dealership out of state and was told there wasn't anything wrong with it. I am absolutely sure that something is wrong with the transmission and they don't want to fix it even though the truck is under warranty. I have seen so many complaints about the transmission and the Chevy Silverado of my year 2019 and above it has to be something going on with the transmission in these trucks that nobody wants to admit.

I own a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle has developed serious transmission problems that create a safety concern. When the transmission is cold, the vehicle slips between 1st and 2nd gear during acceleration. If I accelerate normally, the transmission slips and then engages with a hard bang. I must accelerate very slowly to avoid harsh engagement. In addition, during deceleration, especially when downshifting into 3rd gear, the transmission makes a hard "thump" or "bang". This unexpected shifting behavior creates a safety risk when entering traffic, making turns, or driving in stop-and-go traffic. The vehicle has been properly maintained, including transmission fluid service at a Chevrolet dealership, but the problem continues and appears to be getting worse. I understand many GM 8-speed transmission owners have reported similar issues. The repair cost quoted by the dealership is between $7,000 and $10,000, which suggests a possible design or manufacturing defect. I am filing this complaint for investigation of a potential safety-related transmission defect. I am filing this complaint to report a critical manufacturing safety defect regarding the rear differential in my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. During a recent dealership inspection at approximately 40,400 miles, an authorized GM service center (Jack Hanania Chevrolet) discovered that the vehicle's rear differential was completely "bone dry" of gear oil . Because there is no history of catastrophic fluid leaks, seal blowouts, or external damage, this strongly indicates that the rear differential was either never filled or improperly filled with lubricant at the factory during vehicle assembly. This issue originally presented as a persistent drivetrain vibration, shudder, and "skipping" sensation starting as early as 12,000 miles . I brought the vehicle to the dealership for this exact vibration at approximately 21,000 miles. The dealership misdiagnosed the issue as "low transmission fluid" (despite the transmission being a sealed system) and failed to inspect the rear differential . The symptoms persisted until the vehicle was immobilized in November 2025, which is when the bone-dry rear differential was finally discovered . A vehicle operating with an empty rear differential poses an extreme and immediate safety hazard. The lack of lubrication causes severe internal heat and friction, inevitably leading to a sudden, catastrophic mechanical seizure of the rear axle . If the rear wheels lock up while driving at highway speeds, it will cause an immediate loss of vehicle control, resulting in a high-speed collision. I urge NHTSA to investigate GM's factory fluid-fill procedures and quality control for 2019 Silverado differentials to prevent a fatal lock-up event for other drivers on the road.

. I bought this truck for my husband as a birthday present & it has been a nightmare. My husband is a [XXX] & I wanted a vehicle that he would be comfortable in to take him to his numerous medical appointments. The first indication was the check engine light came on. I took to to O'Reillys & they scanned the vehicle & no issue was detected. I then had several instances where the vehicle would not start & one instance when it would not go into reverse & the truck was making a noise from the underbody. The windshield washer unit also was not working. I then took it back to the Ford dealership where it was purchased. They ran a scan at the dealership & said there was nothing wrong. They then indicated that I should take it to a Chevy dealer which I did. They stated that Chevy has a special scan that the previous scans cannot access. I documented all the issues and the Chevy dealership found 8 issues including the transmission, holes in the struts, software issues, washer pump, grille shutter & loose battery cables. The Ford dealership agreed to fix the struts & the washer pump as well as the diagnostic testing. I thought we were going to be able to resolve the transmission and the grille shutter issue but that has not happened. The defective grille shutter is what is activating the check engine light. The Ford dealership charged me for fixing the battery cables and yet they were needed to be done again. They also told me that the grille shutter was not necessary as I could drive with it but I would never know when I had an actual problem. They wanted to replace the torque converter. I submitted a request to Carvana & they offered me 5,000 and I paid double that plus. I don't feel safe driving the vehicle and GM is well aware of the issues with this make and Model. Let's not wait until someone is killed or hurt before action is taken. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Driving my truck and I suddenly got a warning on my dashboard that said, "Low Oil Pressure. Turn Engine Off." I pulled over immediately, shut off the the engine and called for a tow. Dealership called to let me know the engine was seized and would cost $22,270 to repair. Looking online I found that Chevy had released a Customer Service Program (CSP) detailing that the oil coolant lines in 2019 Silverado 1500 could have a weak / defective crimp holding the oil coolant line onto the connector and could separate causing catastrophic oil loss. It is also stated in the CSP that cold weather makes the issue more likely. I have tried getting GM to cover the repair since they knew about the issue and never contacted me to make the fix. GM is maintaining that they did nothing wrong and that my VIN is not listed as one of the vehicles in need of repair. This, despite the acknowledgement of the CSP and that the CSP "is for the dealerships." Which I pointed out the correction listed was for me to have the oil lines replaced and that never happened. I also pointed out as they said this wouldn't have been listined on my VIN because it was for dealerships and yet no one: not GM, not the dealership I bought the truck from, nor the dealership that regularly serviced my truck mentioned the oil line issue to me.

I have a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado LT 1500 with only 19K Miles. When I brought this vehicle I was having problems with hearing a loud clunking noise coming from the rear of the Vehicle. Every Time I Stop at a red light, stop at a stop sign, yield at a yield sign, and slow down to turn in my driveway I can hear this clunking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. If someone is riding in the backseat of the vehicle, they can feel the clunking noise every time I hit the brakes or slow down. After doing some research I honestly believe it’s the drive shaft that is on my vehicle that is causing this issue. Also, my vehicle does a hesitation when trying to accelerate on the gas pedal, which the drive shaft can cause this issue as well. There is a recall against this issue (Drive Shaft) but my Vin Number doesn’t call for a recall, I believe my vin number was missed in this recall. This is very dangerous because my Drive Shaft can drop beneath my vehicle while driving on the roads or highways and can cause my Truck to loose control and get into a serious accident or fatal accident. All I want is to have the Chevrolet Dealership to repair my Drive Shaft for free, because Chevrolet states that they will fixed all the drive shaft that is on recall on there time and the customer doesn’t have to pay anything. Please follow up on this serious matter. I don’t feel safe driving my truck anymore, so I keep it parked in my garage. PS : I took my truck in several times to three Chevrolet Dealership when I had full warranty’s and each Dealership told me that my truck is fine, I just have to drive it because it’s still new and this is not a problem at all.

"Approximately four months ago, I noticed an oil leak coming from the midsection of the engine/transmission of my 2019 Chevy Silverado LTZ with the 6.2-liter engine. At the same time, I noticed a slight knocking or rattling noise coming from, I believe, the front of the engine. Upon taking it to the dealership, they replaced the engine oil coolant lines, only to find out that the engine was still leaking oil and still making the knocking and rattling noise. They then discovering that it was the rear main seal, they have since replaced it about one week ago. Yesterday, February 6th, about 12:15 pm in the afternoon, while I was getting off the I-405 in Renton Washington and merging onto the southbound lanes of 167. I was in the left lane and I made it about a quarter mile down 167 doing about 60 to 65 miles per hour and I lost power suddenly. As I started to merge into the right lane, I noticed the engine light came on, and then the truck seemed to kick down into first gear while I was doing 50 miles per hour, which instantly slowed it down. This forced me to cross over an on-ramp lane to get to the shoulder and come to a complete stop. After that, the truck would not start at all. I then had to sit on the side of the road for three and a half hours waiting for a tow truck to take me and my truck back to the dealership, which is also the same dealership where I bought the truck back in 2019. My 2019 vehicle experienced premature torque converter failure resulting in transmission shuddering, hesitation, and loss of power while driving. The transmission fluid was found to be burnt, and the vehicle requires major transmission repair. These symptoms occurred during normal driving conditions and created a safety concern due to unpredictable vehicle behavior, particularly during acceleration and merging. This issue is widely reported in 2019 vehicles equipped with GM 8-speed transmissions. GM has acknowledged the issue through technical service bulletins but has not issued a recall.

I have a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 5.3ltr V8. The vehicle has 44,500 miles and has zero accident history. On 01/12/2026, the oil cooler line broke while driving, leaving 8 qts of oil covering the underside of the vehicle (exhaust, suspension and tires) creating a fire hazard along with possible loss of control with the rear tires coated in oil. Additionally, the vehicle is undrivable almost immediately due to zero oil pressure. The local Chevrolet dealership diagnosed it as a oil line failure. There is a Chevrolet Customer service program N212326940 for only certain VIN for this vehicle for this specific problem, however it doesn't cover my vehicle. In reviewing different web forums, this is a commonly known failure point with some defect to the hose clamp. GM has not extended a recall and has stopped covering this known failure. I'm not sure if it's a vendor/supplier failure with the oil line or an installation problem. A full recall and/or 10yr/100k warranty coverage should be provided for all oil line failures due to thousands of prior similar failures with the same oil line.
