NHTSA complaint #11725731 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

I am reporting a safety issue involving a Cybex Eternis S child car seat. The seat was manufactured on 02/28/2020 and has a printed expiration date of 02/25/2030, indicating a 10 year usable life. At approximately five years of use, the head impact foam failed and is broken into two separate pieces. The foam pieces are detached. This foam is a required safety component. Cybex customer service confirmed in writing that if the head impact foam is detached or broken into separate pieces, the seat does not meet safety requirements and should not be used. Cybex also confirmed that no replacement part is available and no repair or remedy is offered. As a result, the seat is unsafe and unusable halfway through its stated usable life, with no ability to repair or replace the failed safety component. This raises concerns about product safety support for child restraint systems marketed with extended usable lifespans.

No official incident has happened yet, but the brake assist kicks in, yet does not work until it's revving engine to over 4000rpm, which causes a sudden jerk and scary sounds from engine. I have had a few instances where the vehicle did not want to stop almost causing an accident, and these have happened without anything in the car other than my daughter who is 2 and myself. The most recent problem is a weird rattling sound while going uphill. Before this going uphill is extremely sluggish, where I have the gas peddle almost to the floor, but nothing happens other than decrease in speed until it finally, about 30 seconds-1 minute, where it kicks into overdrive. Even then, speed does not increase by more than 5-10 mph depending on the incline. I have not brought it to get looked at yet, as I've seen these issues have been reported by numerous consumers without any recalls being sent out other than the breaking system update.

My vehicle completely shuts off while driving. All of the components on the dash and even my steering wheel moves into the prestarted vehicle position. It has happened 3 times in the past week now. One particular instance, I was on the highway and thankfully it came back on immediately before completely stopping but shutting off while driving 65mph is so dangerous.

The Infotainment center display is black and therefore unable to utilize backup camera. The screen is still sensitive to touch but does not display anything for any function. Primarily a safety risk for backing up a large vehicle.

9/29/22 (123k miles) TECHNICIAN: - Test drove vehicle, inspected transmission operation & found gear train noise / L3, in approximately 1st through 3rd gears. Tach was jumping up to about 200 rpms when converter locked up and then would go back down. Monitored on scanner and found converter slipping in and out of lock up. - Scanned computer control modules & found no codes. - Inspected transmission fluid level & condition, found transmission fluid was full and red, note; customer noted fluid was changed recently and was dark and burnt with metal shavings in it during the change. (photo of metal shavings). - Inspected exterior of transmission for leaks & damage, found no leaks or damage. - Determined there is a lack of lockup pressure or hydraulic pressure and internal damage to the transmission assembly. - Recommends replacing the transmission assembly with a unit with an improved torque converter. (We replace).

On approximately December 23, 2022, I notice that the UV protection coating on the hood and roof of my SUV is no longer protecting these areas of my vehicle. Which I am now concerned could lead to rusting on my 2018 SUV. I reported this issue after seeing many complaints on the WEB for the same problem by vehicle owners. A Chevrolet dealer mechanic also informed me of customers voicing my concern about the UV-protecting coating issue. I'm worried this issue will continue and affect the painting of my entire vehicle.

MY 2018 SUBURBAN REQUIRED OVER $400 WORTH OF EXPENSES TO REPLACE A VALVE AND RECHARGE THE FREON IN THE AC. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER IT REQUIRED A NEW CONDENSER AND ANOTHER $1250 IN REPAIR. THE CONDENSER WAS RECALLED IN 2015-2017 SUBURBANS AND IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE IT SHOULD INCLUDE THE 2018 MODEL YEAR AS WELL. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PUT MORE THAN $1650 IN REPAIRS FOR THAT INTO A VEHICLE THAT IS LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD. I HAVE A FAMILY OF SIX INCLUDING A NINE MONTH OLD AND IT IS NOT SAFE IN THE SUMMER HEAT TO BE DRIVING THEM AROUND AS THIS IS THE ONLY CAR WE HAVE THAT FITS THE ENTIRE FAMILY. MY WIFE IS A DOCTOR AND FREQUENTLY WORKING AT THE HOSPITAL DURING THIS PANDEMIC SO IT IS THE ONLY REMAINING VEHICLE I HAVE AND THE ONLY ONE THAT FITS THE REST OF THE FAMILY.
