FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Fuel leak from gas tank to engine

NHTSA complaint #11741819 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2013 Dodge Challenger Leonardtown, MD

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I am reporting a defect condition in a 2013 Dodge Challenger that appears materially identical to the condition described in FCA Emissions Recall UB4 involving the evaporative emissions canister system. See: [XXX] . The vehicle experiences severe difficulty during refueling. Fuel pump nozzles repeatedly and continuously auto-shutoff during normal fueling attempts, preventing normal refueling operation. An independent mechanic diagnosed the issue as related to the evaporative emissions canister / EVAP system. After disconnecting the affected component/system, the vehicle immediately resumed normal fueling operation without repeated pump shutoff. The symptoms and apparent defect mechanism appear materially consistent with those described in Recall UB4 and NHTSA bulletin MC-10174189-9999; however, this VIN is currently excluded from the recall population. I am submitting this complaint because the defect appears to exist outside the currently identified VIN population. The manufacturer (Dodge) is refusing to investigate further, citing there is no recall coverage and NHTSA is responsible. 2020 Dodge Challenger Las Vegas, NV

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I have an urgent and safety issue with my 2020 Dodge Challenger Hellcat. I was driving on road from work. When I was approaching a red light coming to a complete stop. I pressed the clutch to engage the gear into neutral. Suddenly I heard a loud snapping sound, I lost all pressure to the clutch and almost hitting the vehicle in front of me because I couldn’t get it out of gear. Nearly causing multiple car accident with all the cars infront and behind me on the road. I had to shut off the engine so the vehicle would come to a complete stop. Vehicle was towing into the closest Dodge dealership (Sahara CDJR in Las Vegas). After 2 days in the shop, the service advisor just called me and stated that it’s the clutch pedal push rod that snapped and the entire pedal assembly need to be replaced, which would not be covered. I asked him and he confirmed it’s not a common thing to break at the low miles (14741 miles on the vehicle) but I need to reach out to Dodge Customer Service to see if it would fall under “defective parts” claim. Please help me open a case and take care of this issue. It is a very serious safety issue if the rod would just snap like that during normal vehicle operation. This could have needed very badly. Thank you!

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I know this has probably been posted. Driving last night with the wife and I smell fuel. Then the gas gauge starts to drop from full to empty in less than 3 minutes. I pull over, the car shuts down. I see fuel on the passenger side , just in front of the tire. Get the car safely towed home. I pop the back seat and remove the access cover for the fuel pump. See picture. This is how I found the fuel line. The green locking tab was not locked. Even though theirs a green paint mark to confirm the fuel line is secure. Obviously not. The locking tab barely engages and is so easy to move to the unlocked position with no effort at all. Stellantis should be embarrassed that a vehicle left their plant in an unsafe condition. Either the locking tab was not engaged fully or in my opinion a terrible design. It should lock with some effort. With the high pressure the fuel system is under there should be a better locking mechanism. This is a poor design. My car is not modified, has only 2,000 miles on it and has never been tracked. To me a design flaw or piss poor installation tech is responsible. The car could have caught on fire and hurt someone if it was in my garage. These lines should use aircraft style fasteners for the fuel lines, especially at the top of the pump. I have seen at least 12 other instances like this online. That means there are many more. There needs to be a recall that changes the fuel pump and a much more reliable fastening and locking system. These car were and are not cheap. I’ve never complained here or anywhere. I really enjoy the car. But now my confidence in the vehicle’s safety is very much in question. When I called Chrysler roadside assistance they said I couldn’t get a two until Monday 11-3. WTH! @DodgeCares sounds like you don’t really care. The BMW dealership that I have bought two cars from where out in 30 minutes to help and get me and my car home.

2014 Dodge Challenger North Las Vegas, NV Fire

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On August 7, 2025, at approximately 11:30 PM, my 2014 Dodge Challenger caught fire in the trunk area where the battery is located. I had just parked at my location and was about to get out of the car when I noticed a strong burning smell and smoke coming from the rear. Flames were visible inside the trunk. The fire damaged the trunk interior, wiring, and surrounding components, but the battery still functioned afterward. There were no warning lights or prior issues before the incident. This poses a serious safety hazard and could have caused injury or further damage if it had occurred while driving.

My SHIFTER is messing up again recall U4 i believe and my its a recall on my vehicle ive had this vehicle for 2 years they stated the previous owner already had repaired but im imforming them i am still having the issue my car will literally stop going in the middle of the highway. Ive almost been close to getting in a accident and all everyone can say is it has already been repaired but i want them to understand that it may was repaired but it wasnt done correctly because something is wrong with my shifter/trasmission and electrical system. Which are both two valid recalls that i have. My shifter just blinks out of nowhere and just will stop at any moment. If the person behind me wasnt paying attention i couldve died or been harm seriously due to this keep happening while i am driving on the highway.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

At only 68,000 miles, my check engine light came on with code "P0456", which indicates that my Evaporative Emission System has a leak. These leaks lead to increased emissions and fuel loss. The solution is to replace the Emission System Integrity Monitor (ESIM). The life expectancy of this part is 150,000 miles. It should not leak at less than half its life expectancy. I contacted the local dealership and they reported that there isn't a recall on this part yet.

The Evaporative Canister was recalled for Dodge Challenger 2014 in 2021. The car was taken to the Chrysler Dodge Dealership and they confirmed the repair. November 2023 the engine light came on. Another mechanic completed a smoke test and determined the evaporative canister to be faulty. Both Chrysler Dodge Dealership and Chrysler Corporate office refused to remedy the issue, despite this being a recall. A faulty evaporative canister is a safety issue due to emitting additional pollution and adding to the green house effect.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On my way to work on 9/28/23 my 2019 dodge challenger hellcat Redeye engine just shut off at 65mph. I was in the left lane by the wall on I45 heading northbound. I instantly had a loss of power steering and braking. The engine just shut off. A check engine light came on and the dash said shift I to park to start. I was successfully able to get across 4 lanes of traffic to stop on the apron between o ram and side of freeway. When I shifted to park and to try to restart it would not start. Had to be towed to dealership where upon inspection they said the motor was locked. When broken down a valve just dropped into the cylinder and jammed into the piston and cylinder wall. Pieces also damaged the head and the supercharger and dealer says starter is fried. Mopar is digging in and acting like this isn’t an issue but online there are several class actions and forums about defective valve system in these engines. Had I been a novice driver or my wife with children jn the car she would likely not been able to get off to a safe place and stalled dead in the fast lane of a very busy Houston roadway.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On 2/25/23 we started noticing the smell of gasoline around the 2014 dodge challenger, so we stated looking around the gas cap and down around the gas tank and noticed a small few drops of gasoline on the ground near the gas tank. But Didn't notice exactly where the leak was coming from the tank or around the tank. So keep an eye out over the next week then we started noticing a bigger drip mark. We are not driving the vehicle due to leak from gas tank for fear of explosion and fire. We sent the car to our mechanics to check it out . He said the tank was leaking due to being warped, this was not the first time he had seen this problem in the 2014 dodge challengers. He said we will need to replace the tank. We are very concerned with this problem, we enjoy our dodge and are considering buy a new one when the time comes, but will have to reconsider with this type of problem looming. So we parked the car outside and away from the house for fear of fire danger.

DRIVING CAR AND THE GAS PEDAL QUIT WORKING AND COASTED IN GAS STATION PARKING LOT. WAITED FOR A FAMILY MEMBER, AFTER 15 MINUTES I DROVE A 1/2 MILE TO WORK. UPON PARKING, I REVERSED TO ALIGN BETTER, AND THE THROTTLE WENT OUT AGAIN ALONG WITH HORN GOING OFF AND THE WINDOWS GOING UP AND DOWN. IN THIS TIME ALL LIGHTS WERE FLASHING ON DASH. IT WAS TAKEN TO MECHANIC, WHO WORKED FOR DODGE FOR 14 YEARS AND HE SAID THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MANY CHYSLER, DODGE, AND JEEP VEHICLES. HE IS REPLACING THE LIPM TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THIS HAS BEEN RECALLED IN MANY OTHER MOPAR VEHICLES AND IS UNACCEPTABLE AS THIS IS MY TEENAGE'S CAR. I POS TO THE CEO OF DODGE TO PUT HIS CHILD BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THIS CAR. WHAT IF THIS TIPM BURNS/MELTS THE BOARD AGAIN? NO WARNING, MY CHILD WAS ON WAY TO WORK ON A BUSY ROAD, SPEED LIMIT 55MPH AND IT A GAS STATION WAS NOT TO HER RIGHT, WHO KNOWS WHAT THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN THE CAR WOULD NOT GO AND THERE WAS NO SHOULDER EITHER. YOU CAN DO THE SPECULATION. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED INVOICE YET BUT THE PRICE FOR TOW AND FIX IS $751.00.
