Driver Assist & Collision Avoidance complaints by model year
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a local dealer for NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V123000 (Back Over Prevention). The dealer performed the software reprogramming; however, a week after the recall repair, the display screen and rearview camera shut off again. Additionally, a piece of interior ceiling trim fell and struck the contact's arm, resulting in a minor injury. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not repaired due to the dealer's request for a diagnostic fee for the recall remedy inadequacy. The contact mentioned that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer, where it was informed that the vehicle needed an unknown oil. The vehicle was repaired, but the check engine light continued to be illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
While vehicle is set on cruise control , set at 70 MPH , ( or set to any other speed) , anytime the speed limit changes to 80 MPH (or other change) Car accelerates and cruise control is set to 100 MPH . It also accelerates and resets to 90 -100 MPH at random . It is frightening and dangerous to have my car randomly accelerate. I have attempted to pass a vehicle, when my car randomly accelerates to 100 MPH . This is very dangerous and can happen at any random time . The lane assist is also dangerous when car can not see lines separating lanes . I have had my car jerk the wheel when I was detoured through construction. I am very concerned with my car accelerating. Not only does it leave me vulnerable to receiving a speeding ticket , it also increases the likelihood of hitting an object or having an accident.

The lane keeping system in my 2023 ford escape hybrid platinum keeps me too far to the left. When driving the lane keeping system keeps me too close to the center lane marker. I believe it is a potential safety issue for my car to be so close to the left side lane marker, often with the edge of my rear view mirror only inches from the left side lane marker. My local ford dealer says the lane keeping system can not be recalibrated to center the vehicle about 6 inches more to the right (passenger) side to provide a lager safety buffer on the left side of the car. I believe the lane keeping system should be capable of being calibrated.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Escape. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that no fault codes were retrieved from a diagnostic test. The dealer reset the automatic braking system to the "LOW" setting from the previous "NORMAL" setting. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,898.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
My vehicle incorrectly read highway number signs as though they were speed limit signs. This occurred eight times on state highway [XXX] in Florida; and once on state highway [XXX]. The speed limit was actually 55 mph on highway [XXX]. If I would have had “Predictive Speed Assist” turned on, and was using adaptive cruise control, it would have automatically decelerated to 40, +/- whatever “tolerance” I had set. What would happen if this occurs on highway 80, or highway 100? Acceleration to 100 mph, and possibly to 120 mph if I had the tolerance set to +20? This error, which happened while I was a passenger, could significantly exacerbate problem #1. See details in the attached 5 page pdf. Back up camera image freezes on Infotainment screen while driving the vehicle, then the screen goes black. This is a hazard on long trips when relying on navigation maps which should be shown on the screen, but then we're forced to use our phone's tiny screen.

This recall is very serious, I do not feel safe driving my car as it could explode and kill me, and or others. No eta on a serious recall, even though I am being forced to pay for repairs, and possibly cause more damage to my engine for this serious recall.

The edges of the tail light covers are sharp and when I accidentally brush my arms on them while the tailgate is up exposing the edges, I cut my arms badly. I could not upload pictures of the tailgate cover edges or the cuts on my arm which I have.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Starting on July 12th, 2023, my audio control module stopped working, so there was no sound in my car. I took it into my primary dealership (Bob Maxey Ford of Howell) on July 19th, 2023, they deemed that it was the ACM and order a new one. My navigation and my adaptive cruise control acted funny as well, with my navigation not lining up with my actual location. Fast forward to the weekend just a couple of days later, I received notices that my car was going into deep sleep mode to save battery. This went off and on for several days with no warning. On Tuesday, July 25th, 2023, my car was completely dead, and I had to jump start the car to drive into work. My sound returned to my car, and I was able to drive to work. However, three warnings popped up my dashboard and my FordPass application. The first is an orange wrench, indicating a powertrain malfunction/reduced power. A second warning indicating a High-Voltage Battery Warning, and an engine light indicating a Service Engine Soon Warning. I relayed these warnings to my service advisor at the dealership this morning, who stated that he would look at seeing how the ACM was coming along and would get back to me soon. It has been several hours and I have heard nothing back. I am worried about what may come of my car and I haven't been told to bring it in.

Vehicle has 32,600 miles. On start, received the following warnings. "Check Brake System", "Hill Start Assist Not Available", Pre-Collision Assist Not Available", and the ABS light was lit. The brakes were extremely hard to use. Had vehicle towed to Dealership. Dealership tested and received Code U3000. They "reprogrammed" the ABS, PCM and IPC Modules and performed a "battery disconnect". The fix was not covered by warranty. The dealership said that this could happen again. They were vague about whether it could occur only on start or at any time. Reoccurrence at road speed would likely result in an accident as the vehicle was extremely hard to stop.

Car flashed collision warning on highway going 60MPH. No cars were nearby as car continued warning. Cars brakes kicked in and I was eventually able to override this and steer out of a collision with other vehicles. Car flashed a bunch of codes and dealer did system reboot.
