I am submitting this complaint regarding the handling of a safety recall on my 2023 Genesis GV80. During an approximately seven-week service visit at an authorized Genesis dealership, I was verbally informed that the applicable safety recall had been completed. Based on my subsequent interactions, Genesis Corporate also appeared to believe the recall had been performed. However, the recall was not documented on my repair order and was ultimately completed later by a different authorized Genesis dealership (Genesis of Weatherford). I am concerned that a safety recall had been verbally represented as completed when it had not actually been performed, resulting in my vehicle being returned to me with an outstanding safety recall still open. I request that NHTSA review the handling and documentation of this recall. The attached repair orders are all from the same visit, and incorrectly showing as two visits. The vehicle was dropped off at Norm Reeves Genesis of Irving on Jun 23, and remained in their possession until the vehicle was ultimately returned to me on August 11th. The recall was not completed, nor was the principle failure (P213800) remedied. This concern is particularly troubling because my vehicle has also experienced a separate recurring safety-related propulsion defect (P2138/P213800). After yet another authorized Genesis dealer recently returned the vehicle stating it could not reproduce that fault, it recurred within approximately 24 hours and caused the vehicle to enter reduced-power/limp mode while my wife and two young daughters were merging onto a highway. While this complaint concerns the handling of the recall itself, I believe the pattern of unresolved safety-related issues and inaccurate repair completion records warrants NHTSA's review. I have a case with Genesis Motor America, Case #43043015, thoroughly documenting all of this. Genesis has offered me no goodwill or viable remedy, aside from "try taking it to another dealer."

I purchased the vehicle on [XXX], signing purchase contract and paying deposit of $10k. Monday 06/08/26, I received a call from dealership that they need to recoup the vehicle due to safety recall, explaining that they shouldn’t have sold it to me. Apparently, the recall was initiated on 03/02/26, and as of today, “Remedy not yet available”. The sales person, dealership or manufacturer, can not tell me if/when a remedy is coming. It’s been 4 months since recall was initiated when no indication when a remedy is a available. How long should it take for remedy be available? The contact owned a 2021 Genesis GV80. The contact stated that the instrument cluster was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the instrument cluster had failed and needed to be replaced at the owner's expense. The contact declined to pay for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving 70 MPH at night, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The contact stated that upon opening the front driver's side door, the contact noticed that there was smoke coming from under the vehicle. The contact walked to the front of the vehicle and noticed flames coming from under the hood, by the windshield connecting point. The fire was extinguished by the fire department, but there was no report filed. The police arrived at the scene but failed to file or to provide a police report to the contact. There was no reported injury. The contact stated that the vehicle burned to the ground. The dealer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard, where it was deemed a total loss by the manufacturer. The contact stated that the manufacturer had previously advised that the vehicle would be towed to a third laboratory for analysis; however, the manufacturer had failed to do so and had sent field technicians, who took pictures of the burned vehicle instead. The manufacturer then informed the contact that no assistance would be provided because the manufacturer was not liable for the failure, per the technician's report. The contact inquired a copy of the report and was informed that the copy could not be provided because it was private data. Additionally, the manufacturer advised the contact that he would need to retain the vehicle to pursue the matter. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V630000(Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
NHTSA complaint #11724760 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Vehicle is experiencing sudden loss of drive power without warning. There is no error code, nor dashboard indicator (check Eng, etc.). It suddenly just loses power - engine still running. This loss of motive-power safety condition is identical to the fuel pump cavitation issue, consistent with the NHTSA recall 23V630000. My VIN is currently not on the recall, but was manufactured exactly in the mid- range of the June - Dec 2021 production, that has had the recall. Built in the August-Sept 2021 timeframe. Currently in the shop for troubleshooting. Can provide repair invoice at a later date. I think this issue is larger than the recall suggests.

Subject: Safety Complaint – Fuel Door Malfunction on Genesis Vehicle Dear NHTSA, I am writing to formally file a safety-related complaint regarding a fuel door malfunction on my Genesis vehicle. This defect has left me unable to access the fuel tank, presenting a serious safety risk—particularly the possibility of being stranded without fuel, which poses a threat to both driver and passenger safety. I have been informed by both Genesis Customer Care and the Genesis dealership in Huntsville, Alabama that this issue is common and recurring across multiple Genesis models. It is not the result of wear and tear, and is unrelated to mileage. This is a design or mechanical flaw that directly compromises vehicle operability. Despite acknowledgment that this is a known defect, Genesis has refused to resolve the issue under warranty, even though it is clearly a safety-related failure. I have attempted to escalate the matter internally, but have encountered delay, avoidance, and a refusal to take accountability. If this defect were to leave me or my family stranded without access to fuel—especially in extreme weather or on a busy highway—it could result in severe consequences. I believe this issue merits formal investigation and potential recall consideration. I respectfully request that the NHTSA review this issue and consider initiating an investigation to determine whether a recall or safety bulletin is warranted. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
NHTSA complaint #11655243 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Since the coasting feature on the Genesis GV80 and similar models is inoperative, it could mean that Genesis misrepresented the vehicle’s fuel efficiency and emissions performance. The coasting function is designed to disengage the engine from the drivetrain to improve fuel economy, and because it doesn’t work as advertised, real-world MPG may be lower than stated. This could mislead consumers who purchased the vehicle expecting better efficiency. Additionally, coasting reduces engine load and fuel consumption, meaning that with it disabled, carbon emissions could be higher than what was tested or certified. Since official EPA fuel economy ratings were calculated with the assumption that coasting is active, but in practice, the feature never engages, this could be considered a form of emissions cheating or consumer fraud. Such discrepancies raise regulatory concerns and provide grounds for legal action, including a class-action lawsuit, if buyers were misled into purchasing a vehicle under false claims.

Subject: Complaint Regarding Genesis GV80 Coasting Feature Malfunction in Eco Mode To Whom It May Concern, This complaint is regarding a defect in the Genesis GV80’s Eco Mode, specifically the failure of the vehicle to coast as advertised. Genesis promotes the coasting feature as a key function of Eco Mode to improve fuel efficiency, yet this feature does not engage at all during real-world driving. Multiple owners have reported this issue to Genesis dealerships during service visits, yet no fix has been provided. Despite being aware of the problem, Genesis has not issued any software updates, recalls, or technical service bulletins to address the malfunction. This misleading advertising impacts vehicle performance and fuel economy, creating frustration among customers who purchased the vehicle based on these claims. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is urged to investigate this matter and hold Genesis accountable for failing to deliver on its advertised vehicle functionality. I was driving approx 15 MPH i drove through a S turn in a residential area at slow speed . Suddenly my vehicle lost power and I hit a parked car . The right front corner was damaged. The driver side airbags, deployed the passenger side air bags did not deploy automatic break did not work. The safety warning did not go off . The vehicle was taken to my yard where it was later taken to a body shop, I found out later this shop was not an approved Allstate shop which was a mistake with Repair was done poorly, and not completeld I don’t think it’s safe to drive. The air bags have not been replaced . There is a headlight still Not working since the accident There is no reason for me to crash that day. I was wide awake just woke up. The car just did not handle properly. Something went wrong and now I find out that this vehicle make model is being recalled for fuel pump failures, which is causing loss of power in accidents. That’s exactly what happened in my car. Genesis needs to take responsibility for this vehicle as it has with other similar vehicles. This Vehicles has not been inspected for this with the dealership. I’ve taken it to them. They say there’s nothing wrong. That would be Genesis of Las Vegas .

I was driving my Genesis GV 80 in January and in the Trac near my work and I came out of a s turn and the car seemed to over correct and lost power.. I hit a parked car and it was pushed onto 2 other cars .My front end was damaged and airbags deployed. My seatbelt jerked me and was damages . There have been recalls on this vehicle for fuel pump problem which causes crashes. There's been a recall in this vehicle for the seatbelt explodes. There's also a problem with the headlight doesn't work and it's full of water. The seals are bad in the headlight has not been recalled yet. I want Genesis to take responsibility for this accident and compensate me. I'm taking my car into the dealership today Las Vegas with Las Vegas Genesis to discuss this issue and have them take a look at this car. I don't feel comfortable with this car anymore. My insurance could be with Allstate and the car is still not fixed right . I mistakenly attached a photo of a VIN number for a different vehicle. Please omit photo 5832. That's my Volvo. There's nothing to do with this case. Sorry I didn't know how to remove it.

The car is not accelerating or needs hard acceleration to move. It is also losing power intermittently. The car can not accelerate to pass a vehicle. The transmission is behaving erraticly. Causing severe back pain accelerating the car in normal city driving. The RPMs exceed 4000 reaching a speed of 45 miles an hour making the car engine very noisy.
NHTSA complaint #11603574 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
After 3 weeks of sitting idle, the car door had trouble to open. We changed the key batteries but didn’t fix the issue. The next day, car door opened without issue and the car was fine to drive. The 3rd day, the car went dead with no response to the key. The 4th day it came back to live again. However, the car went completely stalled during driving. The engine stopped and no lights or electricity can be turned on. After 15 seconds, the car restarted by itself. I sent the car to dealership but they cannot find any issue.

NHTSA complaint #11585502 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
On two occasions in the last month the car has suffered a loss of power with the accelerator unresponsive to input. After 5-10 seconds of this still actively occurring the car began to shake violently while I was trying to find a safe place to stop the car out of the traffic lanes. Within a minute or so things would go back to normal. The first time I was in a 35mph zone so the car was relatively controllable but unable to keep at speed. The second time was on the interstate at 70mph in heavy traffic. The car reacted much more dangerously at this speed. The loss of power was more severe and the violent bucking and shaking of the car was very severe. I thought parts would start falling off the car at any moment, it was that violent. With my emergency flashers on I was able to exit the interstate without accident or injury but there was a bit of luck involved. It could have just as easily gone very badly in the heavy traffic. There is an open recall on the Genesis GV80 for the fuel pump needing replaced for this exact type of occurrence. [XXX] ). While my VIN is not part of the formal recall I feel 100% certain that this is the same exact issue. Numerous others with GV80's have had and are still having the exact issue. The car was dropped at the dealer (Genesis Bedford OH) last week. They kept the car for a week but were unable to duplicate due to the randomness of the issue. They returned the car without fixing the issue. They never mentioned anything about the GV80 fuel pump issue. I have an open case ([XXX]) with Genesis but they are refusing to replace the fuel pump or rectify the issue in any way. As is noted in the recall of the fuel pump this issue does not cause any check engine lights to activate nor is Genesis storing any type of code from the issue. The recall clearly states that a car with this fuel pump issue should not be driven. Genesis is currently refusing to assist me in getting the car fixed.
