I was driving down the George W. Bush Highway in Dallas, Texas, and the front top bezel above my grill flew off and went over the top of my truck. I have no idea if it landed safely or damaged other vehicles behind me because I was in very thick traffic. This is extremely dangerous as I could injured people driving behind me potentially impaling someone as I was going 70 mph per the speed limit. Just both are being recalls on the 2022 GMC model of my truck. The dealership refused to fix this for me and quoted me over $500 to get this repaired.

A GM warranty engine replacement was performed at Heyward Allen GMC in [XXX] on XXX at 70,415 miles. We purchase the vehicle on XXX with 73,904 miles and after driving for a month started having multiple malfunction indicator lights displaying, and experienced a no start condition. We took the vehicle to the Don Ledford GMC dealer in [XXX], and they performed a high level inspection. They found missing mounting brackets, loose wiring harness wires, broken and missing bolts. Issues all related to an engine replacement procedure. Deeming the vehicle unsafe to operate. The origin dealer that was paid through GMC to replace the engine is now refusing any responsibility for resolving these issues. Technicians have video evidence of the workmanship issues, documenting the sub- par repair work performed during the engine change. The vehicle now sits at the Don Ledford GMC dealer awaiting an estimated $4400 repair, before the vehicle is safe to operate on the road. My 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 was subject to GM safety recall N242490120 / NHTSA 25V060 for an upper grille deflector that could detach from the vehicle. The recall repair was completed by my GM dealership in June 2025. In late August 2026, while driving normally on the highway, the same upper grille deflector detached again in the exact manner described by the recall. There was no collision, impact, or other outside damage that caused the failure. I was able to retain the detached deflector due to my attentiveness however, it was close to detaching and either busting mine or someone else’s windshield. Upon inspection, the adhesive and retainers from the previous recall repair are still clearly visible, and the bonding appears to have separated. I have photographs documenting the failed attachment points and still possess the undamaged detached component for inspection. My GM dealership inspected the vehicle after this failure and determined that the front grille assembly should be replaced. However, because the recall is shown as previously completed, GM has stated that the recall cannot be reopened. GM Customer Assistance offered only $251 toward a $1,673.82 repair, leaving me responsible for $1,422.82 to correct the same safety defect that the recall was intended to remedy. I am filing this complaint because the recall remedy appears to have failed, allowing the recalled component to detach from the vehicle again. A grille component detaching at highway speed could strike another vehicle or create a roadway hazard. I am concerned that other vehicles repaired under this recall may experience the same post-recall failure. I request that NHTSA review the effectiveness and durability of the remedy used for recall N242490120 / 25V060.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH and looking in the driver’s side mirror, the contact became aware that an unknown object had detached from the vehicle. The contact was unaware that the chrome front grille deflector had detached until arriving at the residence. The dealer was contacted, and the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the chrome front grille deflector needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V060000 (STRUCTURE); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 48,210.

while driving my 2023 GMC Sierra AT4 at highway speed, the front grille piece (GM part 84957848, roughly 3 feet or longer) detached from the vehicle without warning and flew off into the roadway. The piece landed on the shoulder rather than in a travel lane, but given its size, it could easily have struck another vehicle or caused a serious accident if it had landed differently. I was then forced to stop on the highway shoulder to retrieve the part, which put me in an unsafe roadside situation with traffic passing at highway speed. This part had all its retaining clips still intact, indicating a failure of the part/mounting itself rather than a missing clip or improper installation. part number 86274905

On August 22, 2026, while driving my 2022 GMC Sierra westbound on State Route 84 at highway speed, with strong westerly winds of approximately 35 knots, the front passenger-side wheel-opening molding/fender flare completely detached from the vehicle without warning. The detached molding struck the passenger-side exterior mirror and narrowly missed a motorcyclist traveling behind me. This created a serious safety risk because a substantial exterior component became a projectile at highway speed and could have struck the motorcyclist or another vehicle. There were no warning lights, messages, unusual noises, or other symptoms before the failure, and there was no known collision or impact preceding the incident. I did not initially know what had detached. After arriving home and inspecting the vehicle, I discovered the entire passenger-side front wheel-opening molding was missing. The detached component was not recovered. I reported the incident to my GMC dealer, which performs my regular service and warranty work. The vehicle was inspected on August 31, 2026. The dealer declined warranty coverage but, to my knowledge, did not determine why the component detached. Afterward, I inspected the corresponding driver's-side molding and found a substantial visible gap at its leading edge between the molding and vehicle body. Comparison with other GMC Sierra vehicles of the same model showed their moldings appeared to sit substantially more flush. The vehicle and remaining molding are available for inspection, and I have photographs documenting the condition. The cause of the failure is currently UNKNOWN. I have escalated the incident to GMC Customer Assistance under Case #109189284 and requested a product-safety review. I am concerned there may be an installation, attachment, or component-retention issue that could allow these moldings to detach while driving.

When I got home I noticed the upper front grille assembly or top chrome trim piece for the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate flew off at some point while driving. That could have caused an accident for others and myself but luckily no one is harmed.

The contact owns a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V053000 (Air Bag). The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, he became aware that there was a crack on the top of the infotainment system on the dashboard. The contact stated that a month later, the vehicle was taken to a dealer for the recall repair. The vehicle was repaired, but there was a large hole approximately one to two inches in size on the driver's side dashboard near the defroster vent. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,928.

The upper grille trim piece came off while driving down I20 between Hudson Oaks and Willow Park. I was doing between 60-65 mph. It could’ve hit other vehicles behind me, or to the side of me. This piece is a known issue and the 2022’s have a recall but not the 2023 model years. No signs of this being about to break.

The upper grill chrome trim blew off at highway speed. The plastic brackets holding it in place sheared off. This was a known defect resulting in 70,000 recalled trucks for the prior year model (2022), but for some reason isn't covered for 2023. Same exact issue

The molding cover for the hood fell off by Hwy speed, and recently we I went to oil change after I get the car the technician said the bolt for tie the oil thing is not correct and it’s not for this car and this was the reason for leaking and need to replace with right one.

Whilst driving down the highway at 65 mph the plastic front grill deflector broke off and slammed into my windshield and the vehicle behind me. Luckily the vehicle behind me sustained no damage other than how frightened she and her children were. This is a known issue and was subject to a recall for the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali's. Nothing has changed between the 2 models as far as I can tell and it's the exact same grill deflector. When I informed the dealership of this they told me it would be a $950 repair out of pocket. First of all, it is unacceptable for a $75,000 vehicle to have a plastic component that can just break off and become an immediate and unavoidable hazard on the highways. The recall MUST be extended to these vehicles. I have reached out to GM and they confirmed it would be an out of pocket expense, but I am escalating the situation. Thank you!

I started to notice detached broken plastic pieces behind the upper grill housing. I notified the dealer, and in the meantime of trying to figure out what to do, the upper grill housing came detached when I was driving down the highway and flew up and back onto the highway. Sounds similar to safety recall N242490120, which was for 2022 model year trucks. Not sure why this stopped at 2022, but it happed on my 2023.

Vehicle: 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE VIN: [XXX] While driving southbound on [XXX] near exit [XXX], the front upper grille molding/deflector completely detached from my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE at highway speed and separated from the vehicle, creating a potential road hazard for other motorists. Prior to the complete separation, I noticed that the upper grille molding was becoming loose and lifting away from the vehicle. I stopped and photographed the component and its attachment areas. The photographs show failed/broken attachment points while the molding was still partially attached to the truck. Later, while driving on [XXX] to work, the remaining attachments failed and the entire molding separated from the vehicle. The part could not safely be recovered from the interstate. The vehicle recently underwent dealer service involving the active grille shutter/damper area near this component. I cannot determine whether that service contributed to the failure, so I am reporting it as part of the vehicle's recent service history rather than asserting it as the cause. I subsequently became aware that NHTSA Recall 25V-060 / GM Recall N242490120 addresses separation of a front upper grille deflector on certain GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles due to fractured attachment points. My vehicle is a 2023 model and does not presently appear to be included in that recall. Because my vehicle experienced a similar failure mode resulting in the exterior component completely separating at highway speed, I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can determine whether this condition may extend beyond the vehicles currently covered by the recall.
