The worst model year for it is 2007.
The curtain airbags on both the passenger and driver side deployed while driving down the road. The truck is available for inspection although the deployed bags have been cut off in order to drive it home. Pictures were taken before doing so and are available for inspection. My son is pretty shaken up and has injuries to his shoulder, face and his ears are ringing.

Driving back to camper in the late evening and was listening to music and gps was on the screen when I was going approximately 32mph when headliner airbags on both sides went off causing me to hit my brakes and veer into the ditch. I was able to maintain pretty good control but did hit either a rock or stick or something that punctured my wheel sidewall. Unsure if a tree limb then got caught and tore off my bedcover that then left a small dent on the c column on the passenger side. I was able to put my truck in 4wd to get back fully into the roadway and walk about to see potential damage. At that time I only saw my tire was loosing air and bedcover was off aside from the airbag deployment. I slowly made my way home to assess further during complete daylight. I was not injured other than a cut on the hand due to the bedcover and a headache from the deployment. No hard hit or collision and truck did not make contact with tree trunk or any front end damage that would ordinarily come from someone going into the ditch. Reached out to a shop to have them check it out and see if they can see any reason why those airbags would have deployed without force then causing an incident

Front air bag sensor part is not available. Part number 85597996 has been discontinued without a replacement. As such, I have no airbag system on my truck.

I was traveling east bound on i26 when the Bosch fuel pump exploded and sent metal shavings throughout the fuel system. It's the same pump GM has settled a class action lawsuit when I spoke to the adjuster I was told.my truck wasn't included but yet it has the Bosch fuel pump the lawsuit is for cost me 10000 to repair. I have repair bill. And then I was in a accident and the air bag curtain deployed but the passenger side and driver side did not I think there's a recall on the also.

The contact owns a 2012 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V051000 (Air Bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer and an unknown dealer were contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. .

High speed collision with a cement truck destroyed most of the front portion of the vehicle. Neither passenger nor driver airbag deployed and seat belts did not lock up, injuring the driver. No warning lights indicating an airbag problem appeared prior to crash. The vehicle is now impounded at towing company yard pending insurance investigation.

I get a recall notice from GM but the dealer won't do the repair without me signing a waiver for any damage they may cause to the dashboard during the recalled airbag removal. Can anyone get GM dealers to do the necessary repair and have accountability for any damage they may do?

1). Dash light stays on constantly and reads SERVICE AIR BAG. This was checked out at an auto repair shop. If air bag doesn't respond, it could be fatal. 2). Check engine light is always on. Was checked out at an auto repair shop and repaired on 10/19/2021. 3). Right engine exhaust manifold is cracked and leaking exhaust. Was checked out at a muffler repair shop. In time I'm afraid fumes my leak into the truck cab. 4). A brake line ruptured and was repaired on 09/02/2020.

2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD. My dash has started to crack around the passenger airbag and driverside gauge cluster. Dash material is brittle and serves as a hazard should the airbags deploy during an accident.

I called my local GMC dealer (Maxwell GMC, Round Rock, TX) in regard to the Takata Air Bag recall to get some details about the repair (e.g. length of time for repair, parts availability, etc.) In addition to their reponse regarding the length of time and parts availability I was told that their was a high probability that the dash on my truck would crack during the airbag repair. I was also told that the GMC dealer would not cover the cost of the dash damage as a result of the airbag recall work. Shouldn't the repair of the air bag cover any related costs as a result of the repair such such as damage to the dash?

I left my vehicle for service (19 April 2023 - approximately 8:30 am CT) for an urgent safety recall to Bommarito West County GMC dealership located at 15736 Manchester, Ellisville, MO 63011 (Phone: 636-391-7200). When I drove the vehicle in the dealership and had not issues driving and steering. And when I picked it up at approximately 12:30 pm the same day the service consultant (Joshua Delanoix) did not bring the vehicle to me the same as I left it. Joshua asked that I pick it up in the parking lot, instead. I drove off the lot and noticed that the steering wheel would pull severely off to the right side when breaking causing the car to become unstable and steering towards oncoming traffic. I slowed down until I could retain better control of the vehicle to get home. Then, at approximately 4:30 pm, I drove back to the dealership and spoke to the same service consultant. He then referred me to the service manager (Pat Roberts). I explained to service manager that I could not drive the vehicle safely and requested a safety check. Pat refused to check the service work or the vehicle safety and disregarded my concerns. Afterwards, I spoke to the sales manager (Larry Buchhorn) and explained again my safety concern and he followed up with the same service manager and told me that there was nothing they could do and that the service manager's supervisor (Mike Simms) would contact me. Finally, I was allowed to drive out of the dealership with the same safety issue for the second time.

We were in a roll over accident going under 30mph. I was a passenger in the back seat. When I woke up I saw that the driver was hanging out the door window. The air bags did not deploy. The driver who was also the owner of the truck died of multiple blunt forces. The insurance company had the truck towed to COPART in Las Vegas.

I was in an accident on October 20th 2022 while driving home. U had just reached the top of a sharp crest on a two way road. As I started to straighten out the wheels coming out of the turn I noticed my direction was still as if I was turning the wheel. I tried to brake and pressed the brake but it went to the floor and the truck kept going. I collided with the other vehicle and it was a miracle neither of us were seriously injured or killed. We had problem with the steering box about 2 years ago and had to have it towed to the dealership. The other vehicle was a Chevy 2500 with a custom steel flat bed & it slowed me down and I finally came to a stop with the front tires off the road. Neither vehicle alerted onstar & airbags did not deploy. His vehicle miraculously had minimal damage to the cab the majority of the damage was the metal gear box located under the bed in between the cab & tires. It was super scary & left both vehicles disabled.

The “Service Safety Restraint” alarm goes off continually on my 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4. The warranty is no longer valid as at the time of occurrence I was at 34,500 miles and when I took it in the warranty had expired due to exceeding 36,000 miles. Extended warranties were not purchased and this began approximately 8-9 months after purchase. The code given is “b0014 Driver Seat Side Air Bag Deployment Loop” with a description of high resistance in wiring or wiring harness. After much research I have found that many GMC 2021 vehicles and previous models have had this exact same issue. No dealership as of yet has offered to help or understand that this defect was of their own flawed design. The issue that I am having is exactly the same as other models such as the 2021 Yukon, Sierra 1500, Suburban and others. This is a safety issue and only want GMC to account for their flaw. I do not believe I should have to pay for a design flaw or equipment malfunction that is well known amongst GMC vehicles. I am asking the NHTSA to help me in this matter and the many others who are having the same issue and for the manufacturer to be accountable for their own flaw.
