The contact owns a 2018 Honda Fit. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that since receiving the recall notification, on four occasions the vehicle independently accelerated while idling, without warning. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer for an inspection; however, the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The failure mileage was approximately 12,800. Parts distribution disconnect.
NHTSA complaint #11606787 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
We own a 2016 Honda Fit with 52,000 miles, and the fuel gauge/speed/odometer display does not work. It completely fails in the cold. This is major safety issue since we can't read the fuel level nor see how fast or slow I'm driving. Our car is currently at the Conicelli Honda dealership. After trying to get this fix or diagnosed for years, Conicelli thinks the problem is a loose or failing solder joint. I spoke with Honda and they is no current recall on this problem. That said and apparently, it is a common issue based on a YouTube video, [XXX] . This is major safety issue that should not fail at 52,000 miles. Honda should be made aware of this issue and fix the problem. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint #11557294 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
While my wife was coming to a stop in a parking space, the car suddenly accelerated and jumped over the curb into a pedestrian walkway. The car could not be stopped with the brake and continued moving over the walkway. Afraid that the car would hit a pedestrian or crash into cars on the busy street ahead, she was ready to stop the car by crashing it into a concrete column. Fortunately, she removed the key and the car stopped. A similar incident occurred in 2014 when the car suddenly accelerated while I was coming to a stop at a traffic light. In order to avoid hitting the car in front of me, I stopped by removing the key. Then I drove the car to the dealer. A master mechanic checked the car but could not duplicate the problem. In 2020, the car again accelerated suddenly while stopping at a traffic light. I stopped the car immediately but did not report the incident. After the third incident, we contacted the dealer and stated that we did not want to drive the car ever again because we did not want to risk injuring ourselves or others. We had the car towed to the dealer to be checked. The dealer could not duplicate the problem and they demonstrated safety features of the car that prevent the accelerator from overpowering the brake. We were not convinced since we use the same foot to operate the accelerator and the brake. Therefore, when the foot is on the brake, nothing is pushing the accelerator. The engine was accelerating by itself, possibly by the engine control software. We then initiated a case with American Honda. We were later informed by an American Honda case manager that their Field Technical Specialist had determined that “the vehicle is functioning according to Honda’s specifications” and that Honda was not going to investigate further. The local dealer agreed to buy the car at market price.
NHTSA complaint #11504644 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
all vehicle warning lights came on specifically the check engine light for an emissions system problem. At the time the car had around 100,000 miles so it was suspected that the issue had to be with the battery, o2 sensors, or spark plug and ignition coil, so those parts were replaced. The vehicle still shows all the warning lights and reads codes for misfires in the first and second cylinder. If the issue with the fuel injectors was recalled and fixed for the 2015-2016 model Honda Fit, then it cant possibly be that the 2017-2020 honda fits also have a fuel injector problem, unless they also do and the issue has been neglected.
NHTSA complaint #11504309 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Fit. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated continuously. The vehicle was able to restart after waiting. The failure recurred four times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition coils needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The contact mentioned the vehicle was shuddering while accelerating the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the cylinders, valves, spark plugs, and head gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
NHTSA complaint #11464038 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The vehicle started to bounce and accelerated on its own while making a left turn and was not responding to brakes to slow down and kept going faster and faster. The vehicle was only responding to steering. The car went up a curb into a yard, heading to a house , which was avoided by steering to the driveway and hit a parked car, then proceeded to a car parked on the street, then continued across the street and struck a truck facing the opposite way, which bounced the car into a yard and hit a tree which bounced it back and finally stopped by a electrical line. 4 collisions and no airbag. Because it was 4;45am in a neighborhood street, no one was injured. The car is totaled by the body shop and insurance company is not willing to pursue with manufacturer. The spontaneous acceleration, brakes and airbags are major safety failures. If this was any other time of day or on other busy streets, the outcome could be much worse. I read online that there was a software issue with this vehicle for acceleration in Japan and others who have had this problem here in the US. I would like this investigated and reported.
NHTSA complaint #11428058 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Fit. The contact stated that while turning into a parking lot approaching a parking space without warning the vehicle accelerated forward. The contact slammed on the brake pedal, however the vehicle failed to stop. The contact depressed the brake pedal again and the vehicle came to a complete stop. The contact shifted the vehicle gear into park. The vehicle has not been diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however no further assistance was taken and the manufacturer informed the contact that the warranties had expired, and to contact NHTSA to log a complaint. No dealer was contacted. The contact mentioned NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V770000 (Power train) as a possible solution to the failure however, the VIN was not included. The failure was approximately 106,340.

NHTSA complaint #11320465 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I HAVE A 2017 HONDA FIT LX. AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN A DECLINE ON A CITY STREET I WAS TAPPING THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE TO KEEP IT AT OR UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT. AS I GOT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE DECLINE THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED RED SO I APPLIED THE BRAKES SIGNIFICANTLY HARDER AND CONSTANT. AS I BRAKED FOR THE STOPLIGHT THE ENGINE REVVED UP AND I HAD A HARD TIME COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE THE STOPLIGHT. EVEN AT A COMPLETE STOP THE ENGINE WAS REVVING. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK TO TRY TO STOP THE ENGINE FROM REVVING BUT IT DIDN'T HELP. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV AT A CONSTANT RATE. I TRIED TO TAKE THE CAR OUT OF PARK AND PUT IT IN A LOW GEAR TO GET THE SYSTEM TO RESET BUT I COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK. THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE ENGINE FROM REVVING WAS TURNING THE CAR OFF. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT CAUSED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION OF THE ENGINE AS I STOPPED AND WHY IT CONTINUED IN PARK BUT I FIGURED IF IT HAPPENED TO ME THAT IT COULD ALSO HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE IN THE FUTURE SO IT SHOULD BE REPORTED
NHTSA complaint #11316428 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
MY CAR ACCCEILERATED TWICE WITHOUT THE DRIVER TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR. IT HAPPENED WHILE PARKING AS THE CAR WAS CREEPING FORWARD IN THE PARKING SPACE AND SUDDENLY SPED UP. I HAD TO STAMP ON THE BRAKE TO STOP IT. I DO NOT KNOW WHY, BUT I FOUND OUT THAT CARS OF THE SAME MAKE , MODEL AND YEAR IN JAPAN WERE RECALLED FOR SPONTANEOUS ACCELERATION AND IT WAS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT, BUT IT IS CLEARLY DANGEROUS AND COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENT OR INJURY IF THE CAR HIT AND OBJECT OR A PERSON. IF I HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO STOP THE CAR, I WOULD HAVE HIT THE CEMENT WALL OF A BUILDING.
NHTSA complaint #11278791 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
REGULARLY WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE FROM PARK OR SHIFTING INTO DRIVE FROM REVERSE, THE CAR WILL FAIL TO ACCELERATE AT ALL FOR SEVERAL SECOND DESPITE GAS PEDAL ACTUATION AT FULL, OR PEDAL ON THE FLOOR. UNPREDICTABLE ACCELERATION WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE DISALLOWS DRIVER FROM DRIVING CAUTIOUSLY AS THE UNKNOWN VARIABLE IS DISTRACTING AND DANGEROUS IF IN A SITUATION WHERE THE CAR NEEDS TO MOVE ON COMMAND. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.
NHTSA complaint #11270658 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

NHTSA complaint #11099688 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS WHEN I AM STOPPED AND START TO ACCELERATE TRYING TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC. I AM TRYING TO MOVE STRAIGHT AT TIMES, AND OTHER TIMES TURNING. AFTER TWO OR THREE PUSHES ON THE ACCELERATOR, IT WILL ENGAGE AND I CAN CONTINUE. I UNDERSTAND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS MATTER, BUT MY VIN # IS NOT INCLUDED. (UNFORTUNATELY, I CANNOT FIND THE RECALL OR THE RECALL # ONLINE ANYMORE.) I FEEL THAT IT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED TO SEE IF OTHER VEHICLES ALSO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. MINE DOES, AND IT'S A SCARY FEELING TO SEE A VEHICLE COMING TOWARD YOU AT A FAST SPEED AND YOUR VEHICLE WON'T MOVE.
