EXTERIOR LIGHTING

The fuel gauge in the gauge cluster turns on and off unexpectedly and without reason for extended periods of time. The gauge will also do what I like to call hieroglyphic numbers, essentially unreadable lettering clearly due to an electrical malfunction. This is very distracting as a driver and has put me in a very near death experience from the fault. This problem makes it impossible to read the fuel quantity during or before operation of the vehicle. It has been confirmed by dealer that the fault is due to a damaged solder and has been clear that this is a common issue with most Honda fits.

NHTSA complaint #11687034 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2018 Honda FIT Spring Hill, FL

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

In colder temperatures, the instrument gauge cluster begins flickering like there is a loose connection. Online research indicates there are many honda fit owners who are experiencing the same thing and the problem appears to be related to the solder joints that expand and contract in cold/warm temps, causing connectivity issues.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

The fuel guage/mileage/mpg display flickers on and off intermittently. Sometimes it displays properly, sometimes it displays gibberish and sometimes nothing at all. There really is no correlations to be made as to why it is doing this, it can happen any day at any time or not at all. 2015 Honda Fit

Headlights and taillights have gone out. Replaced bulbs and fuses. Brakelights and highbeams still functional Faulty relay most likely as a similar problem was already found on the 2002 Honda civic.

2015 Honda FIT Watauga, TX

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

The instrument cluster is failing on my vehicle which causes the digital display that shows mileage and gas levels start off blank then as the vehicle warms it starts flickering and causes visibility issues as that is very distracting and could cause seizures to those sensitive to flickering. This also prevents drivers from knowing gas levels which causes drivers to be stranded on the side of the road or have the vehicle just turn off while driving due to no gas. The vehicle is available for inspection and I have videos of the issues as does many others having the same issue. I have videos of the issue but they are not allowing me to upload maybe due to file type. The flickering can cause seizures as well as being distracting which could cause accidents. Not having any way to determine gas level or mileage also is a safety issue as there is no way to know how much fuel is in the vehicle which could cause drivers to be stranded or vehicle to quit working while driving. I have taken my vehicle in to Norm Reeves Honda and Honda of Denton for this issue numerous times and provided them videos of the issues but they stated they couldn’t reproduce it until the extended warranty went out and now the finally are able to reproduce it and confirm it needs replaced. It has been inspected the the Honda dealerships There was no warning it just started happening out of the blue about 3 or 4 years ago. The first time it happened I went to back out and a start system error came up and the car turned off and lost all power. I almost crashed into my carport as I could not even steer. I haven’t had that happen again but the display issues continue to happen.

Above mentioned Honda Fit Vin number JHMGD38678S043570 had same issue with low beam headlight recall (TSB 10-082 low beam headlight recall) Low beam headlight do not work. Car was sent to Pohanka dealership for repair. "Found a break in wire where connector was installed." I have documentation attesting to this. I am not denying that switch was bad, but Honda is charging labor for the obvious recall repair that was incorrectly performed. I would like a partial refund for the labor they are charging for the time to repair the recall correction. Honda is denying the claim saying it is "wear and tear".

The cluster doesn’t light up and the speedometer and tachometer don’t work as well. Check engine Code U0155 which one of these parts that could potentially fall under this code had been replaced under warranty.

2016 Honda FIT Phoenix, AZ

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

About a year or two after purchasing the car new in 2016, we noticed that the instrument panel right side which has fuel gauge, odometer, trip information and other key operating vehicle information would go blank or the digital readout would go haywire and turn into gibberish. This generally happened on cold mornings and the display would revert to normal within 10 minutes to one hour. We took it to dealer where vehicle purchased in Phoenix, who was unable to recreate the problem and therefore they did nothing. The problem has persisted since then but recently has worsened to the point where the display is blank almost all of the time and not working in hot weather as well. The only time I can see the gauges is when first starting car in morning, and then it often doesn't work to get to different functions one accesses by pushing a knob/button next to that display -- and stops working completely a short time later. I feel this is a dangerous problem because we can't tell how much gas we have in the car, can't determine mileage via odometer there and lack other key vehicle information that the manufacturer decided to put in a digital panel that is blank or goes blank most of the time. On my listing below of when this incident occurred, that is to indicate when the problem started happening, more or less. The incident has been ongoing since then. The problem started when vehicle had around 20-25K miles and we are now at 58K -- though it's hard for me to tell mileage because I can so rarely see the odometer. I believe odometers and probably fuel gauges are legally required to work in vehicles and mine has been faulty for years and during the warranty period. A recall is needed. Honda is charging more than $1,000 to replace these faulty displays on Honda Fits that are no longer under warranty, like mine, I am told.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

I am a 76 year old Minnesota woman who lives on a limited budget. I purchased a used 2018 Honda Fit from Richfield Bloomington Honda (RBH) on 04-07-21. Initially the tachometer & speedometer gauges could easily be read during both day and night driving. Within about a month, during daylight driving these gauges became dark and very difficult to read – especially while driving with sunglasses during the day to protect my eyes from UVA and UVB rays. Other Honda Fit owners have experienced the same issue. Here’s a post I found on the internet: “I traded in my 2015 Fit last year for a 2017 Fit Sport. I seem to recall that, on the 2015, when in "daylight mode", the speedo/tach/fuel gauges were automatically brightly lit at full brightness. I've noticed lately that on my 2017, only the fuel gauge lights up brightly in daylight. The tach and speedo remain completely dark and barely readable. Honda dealer says nothing is wrong. Is this normal?” RBH has implied that the illumination problem I experience with my speedometer is somehow my fault – either because I wear the wrong sunglasses or that I shouldn’t wear any sunglasses when I drive. My 2018 Honda Fit is not safe when I take my eyes off a crowded hwy for 2-3 seconds while trying to discern my speed from a dark, barely readable speedometer. This could lead to a tragic accident! I met with several RBH reps re this illumination problem and sent follow up emails which were ignored. Because pf my low income, I can’t afford to fix the gauge problem and rely on my warrantee. Today only 200 miles are left before my warrantee ends, and RBH is in no hurry to fix the gauge problem. Because this is a safety issue, I want the speedometer fixed by RBH at no cost to me even if my warrantee ends due to RBH delays. I need RBH to provide me with a free loaner car until the speedometer on my 2018 Honda Fit is fixed and deemed safe to drive by an independent auto mechanic.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH AT NIGHT, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS FOR VISIBILITY. THE CONTACT LATER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT DEFECT MAY BE RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V624000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL, DESPITE THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. 2013 Honda FIT at 83,000 miles Springvale, ME

WHILE DRIVING THE RADIO, DASH LIGHTS, HEAD LIGHTS, AND POWER STEERING CUTS OUT FOR A MOMENT THEN COMES BACK ON. THIS STARTED OCCASIONALLY 3 MONTHS AGO WITH JUST THE RADIO AND DASH LIGHTS AND HAS PROGRESSED TO SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW AND NOW INCLUDES THE HEAD LIGHTS AND POWER STEERING. THERE IS NO PREDICTABILITY TO WHEN OR HOW MANY TIMES IT WILL HAPPEN. ONCE IT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY GOING AROUND THE RAMP AT A GOOD SPEED, THE ELECTRICAL WENT OUT I LOST POWER STEERING AND ALMOST HIT THE GUARD RAIL IT CAME BACK ON JUST IN TIME FOR ME TO REGAIN CONTROL. TOOK IT TO HONDA DEALER WITH MY COMPLAINTS; THEY DID A MULTI POINT INSPECTION AND CHECKED FAULTS-NO FAULTS STORED. ALSO CHECKED WIRING AND CONNECTORS-ALL OK. TOLD ME IT WAS PROBABLY THE AFTER MARKET STARTER, I SHOULD BE FINE, TO CONTACT THE STARTER PEOPLE AS IT IS MOST LIKELY THEIR PRODUCT ISSUE AND NOT HONDA'S, THEN SENT ME HOME CHARGING ME OVER AN HOUR OF LABOR. A FEW DAYS LATER IT CUT OUT 12 TIMES IN LESS THAN 3 MILE; I HAD TO FIND A GAS STATION TO PULL OVER IN AS I DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE CAR. TURNED IT OFF & LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES, STARTED IT AGAIN & HAD NO FURTHER ISSUES UNTIL THE FOLLOWING DAY WHEN IT HAPPENED ANOTHER 8 TIMES IN A ROW. CONTACTED THE CAR STARTER COMPANY TOLD THEM WHAT WAS GOING ON; THEY REMOVED THE STARTER. BUT TOLD ME HE LOOKED IT UP ONLINE & DISCOVERED THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER HONDA FITS & IS MOST LIKELY RELATED TO A FAULTY ALTERNATOR. ANOTHER ISSUE RELATED WITH THIS ALTERNATOR PROBLEM IS DEAD BATTERIES WHICH HAS HAPPENED TO ME AS WELL & AM ON MY 3RD BATTERY WITH IN 6 YEARS! THE CAR STARTER GUY SAID HE WAS CONCERNED WITH MY SAFETY & TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT BY MY MECHANIC AND HAVE THEM LOOK AT THE ALTERNATOR. WELL 2 DAYS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON & IS IN THE GARAGE TODAY; NOT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP

THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. ESKRIDGE HONDA (1030 SW 74TH, OKLAHOMA CITY, OK) WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE RECALL REMEDY FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V624000 (EXTEROIR LIGHTING) WAS COMPLETED IN 2012. 2009 Honda FIT at 96,605 miles Carlisle, PA

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

THE CAR DASHBOARD LIGHTS/RADIO LOST ALL POWER FOR 2-3 SECONDS AND THEN THE EPS LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD LIT UP. THE CAR LOST POWER STEERING AND WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER DURING THIS TIME. STEERING WHEEL LOCKED WHILE DRIVING AND COULD NOT TURN IT FOR THE 2-3 SECONDS THAT THE CAR SYSTEMS WERE 'OFFLINE.' THE NEXT DAY, THE CAR DID THE SAME THING AND I LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS IN VARIOUS WEATHERS THROUGHOUT THE DAY ON BOTH THE HIGHWAY AND BACK ROADS. UTTERLY TERRIFYING. TOWED IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUES AND CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME WITH 0 FIXES DONE. WAS ADVISED TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE IT AS NORMAL SINCE NO COMPLAINTS COULD BE PROVEN WITH DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. DROVE IT WITH TREPIDATION FOR THE NEXT 5 DAYS AND ON THE 5TH DAY, THE CAR AGAIN LOST ALL POWER TO VEHICLE, DASHBOARD LIGHTS LIT UP, ENGINE LIGHT LIT UP, RADIO TURNED OFF AND TURNED BACK ON, STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT AND WHEEL LOCKED WHILE DRIVING. CAR CONTINUED TO DO THIS OVER THE PERIOD OF AN HR 50+ TIMES. PARKED CAR, VIDEO RECORDED IT LOSING POWER, EPS LIGHT TURNING ON/RADIO TURNING ON/OFF, STEERING WHEEL LOCKING WHILE PARKING AND DRIVING. TOWED IT A 2ND TIME TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHO HAS DRIVEN IT A TOTAL OF 38 MILES WITH NOTHING BEING ABLE TO BE PROVEN WITH DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. NO HARD CODES TO BE FOUND, AS ANYTIME THE CAR IS TURNED OFF ALL CODES ARE ERASED FROM THE EPS SYSTEM. CALLED HONDA CORP. AND THEY STATED SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY VIN NUMBER THAT NO PROBLEM EXISTS FOR THIS VEHICLE AND SINCE THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT PROVE ANY ISSUES THROUGH DIAGNOSTIC TESTING THAT MY CLAIM IS UNFOUNDED. HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 14-058 WAS RELEASED AND THE WARRANTY EXTENDED FOR 2007-08 HONDA FITS, BUT THEY ARE DENYING ISSUES WITH 2009 EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE REPORTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET ABOUT THEM. DEALERSHIP UNWILLING TO FIX 'UNKNOWN ISSUE'.
