Driver Assist & Collision Avoidance across every Honda Odyssey year
My Odyssey randomly began displaying all of the ADAS warning messages: The Brake System indicator light comes on, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane-Keeping Assist, Auto High Beam System error, etc. These came on beginning 7/25/26 and have come on everyday since causing the entire ADAS system to be inoperable. There have been a few days that they didn't come on immediately. I have had a few days where they came on half-way through my drive. This is a safety issue due to a defect in either the front camera or wiring to it, a nuisance, and something Honda needs to correct. It seems to be way too common of an issue according to my research. There hasn't been any damage to the van and no reason for these to come on. I have done research and see this has happened to many people. The replacement camera is costly as well as the calibration. Therefore, I haven't taken it to the dealership but I have discussed the issue with them. They agree that the camera is getting too hot and failing, which is causing the errors and of course all of those safety features fail simultaneously.

LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
Our van recently started flashing multiple warning lights every time we started it up. These include "Collision mitigation system problem", "auto high-beam problem", "road departure mitigation system problem", "lane keeping assist problem", "adaptive cruise control problem", and also alerts that there is an issue with our brakes. We took the van into our local Honda dealership and were told the ADAS camera was broken and would need to be replaced. We were told this would cost $2,733 and that there's a chance we will also have to replace the windshield (which is physically fine) for another $1200. The camera breaking is not normal maintenance or expected due to wear and tear. There is nothing physically wrong with our windshield, we have had no accidents, we have kept up on all needed vehicle maintenance. It's my understanding the location of the camera is simply causing it to overheat and blow out the electrical system. Additionally concerning is that even if I did have the money to fix the issue Honda does not have any cameras available. They are on backorder. It means as a driver to three small children I have to assume the nonstop alerts are all benign for at least a month. In the off chance there is a true safety concern such as brakes malfunctioning, I will not know as the alert system is going off at all times.

while driving at 35 mph a vehicle well ahead of me made a left turn exiting the roadway. My vehicle suddenly applied the brakes even though there was no longer a vehicle in my path. I tried to increase the accelerator, but the vehicle was slow to respond to this. luckily there was not another car directly behind me. This exact problem had occurred many time previously.

Front camera failure shut off multiple safety features. Confirmed by the dealership service department. Safety features shut off adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, collision mitigation system, road departure mitigation system and blind spot info system. Driving this car under 43000 miles with multiple safety features off with messages flashing is stressful, distracting, uncomfortable and unsafe especially this car is mainly used for children. The worse part is that the dealership service department can not fix the problems because the part is back ordered. We have to continue to use this car in this unsafe condition.

While driving the car lurches as it shifts gears. This had gone on for quite some time but no codes have been thrown. This last time the car lurched so badly at the beginning of acceleration that I thought it was going to stall. It did not, but lights began flashing on the dash and when codes were (finally) thrown I was told I needed a new transmission altogether.

Failure of the forward-looking multipurpose camera after a simple battery change. Many safety features are now inoperative including emergency braking, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, among others. Ultimately, a routine maintenance item (battery replacement) is causing the failure of vehicle safety systems.

My 2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L has an ongoing Honda Sensing failure. Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, and Forward Collision Warning cannot be activated using their controls. No dashboard warning lights or error messages are displayed. Honda of Lake Jackson stated that it could not perform further diagnostics. These driver-assistance and safety features remain unavailable during normal vehicle operation. I am reporting the problem because multiple Honda Sensing functions cannot be turned on or used.

LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
On 7/28/26, my 2018 Honda Odyssey began displaying the following warning lights and system messages on the dash: •Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system error •Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) error •Auto High Beam system error •Collision Mitigation Braking System / forward collision error These errors were present before I replaced the 12V battery. I had the battery tested at that time and it failed a load test, so I replaced it, expecting the ADAS-related errors to resolve. After the battery replacement, the original errors remained, and additional warning lights appeared, including a transmission system problem indicator and a brake system warning light. I disconnected the negative battery terminal for approximately 10 minutes in an attempt to reset the modules, then reconnected it. After reconnection and a period of idling, further warning lights appeared that had not been present immediately after the battery swap. I have not been in a collision, and there was no impact to the windshield, front bumper, or brake components at any point during this period. The vehicle’s brake pedal feel has remained normal. Because these errors were present before the battery was replaced, the battery does not appear to be the root cause, and the underlying issue affecting the ACC, LKAS, auto high beam, and collision mitigation systems remains unresolved. I have seen reports from other Honda owners describing similar cascading ADAS and system warning lights on comparable Honda models.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Component Affected: Forward-Facing Multipurpose Camera / Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)Description of Safety Hazard: While operating my 2018 Honda Odyssey on a public road, the forward-facing multipurpose camera suffered a sudden, unprovoked internal hardware failure. This failure instantly triggered a cascade of severe dashboard warning lights and error messages. The camera failure completely disabled multiple critical active safety systems simultaneously, including: Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)Auto High-BeamsSafety Consequence: The sudden loss of these active safety technologies dramatically increases the risk of a high-speed collision, as the vehicle can no longer autonomously detect obstacles, mitigate frontal impacts, or assist with lane keeping. Crucially, the total failure of Adaptive Cruise Control left the vehicle with no standard cruise control functionality whatsoever during highway driving, creating an unexpected distraction and safety hazard. The dealership confirmed a failed front camera module and quoted $2100 to replace and recalibrate the unit. This is a systemic hardware defect affecting 2018 Honda Odysseys that requires a formal safety recall.

LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING
The front camera is intermittent and sometimes it works but other times I get 5 error messages when I start my car: adaptive cruise control problem, lane keeping assist problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, auto high-beam problem. In reviewing online, it seems like this is a very common problem with all of these models. Since the repair rate is over $1000 you’re going to have a lot of vehicles on the road without the safety features working. Since it’s intermittent, there’s something with the connection between the camera and the computer. If the camera were broken, it wouldn’t work at all. Any people say they can bang on the camera but that doesn’t seem like a safe fix. I believe this needs to be investigated.
