Issue: On certain vehicles, the software update completed by a Hyundai dealer for recall R0277 (Transport Canada recall no. 2025-054) may not be effective. As a result, a second repair is required. On certain vehicles, a software problem in the integrated electronic brake could cause reduced braking when using the left-foot braking (LFB) feature. Additionally, a software problem in the vehicle control unit could cause the vehicle to continue to accelerate for a short period of time when using the N e-Shift feature. Note: This recall replaces recall R0277 (Transport Canada recall no. 2025-054). This recall only affects certain Ioniq 5 N models. Safety Risk: Reduced braking can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. A vehicle that continues to accelerate could create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, Hyundai recommends not to use the LFB or N e-SHIFT features until the recall repairs have been completed. Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the integrated electronic brake and vehicle control unit software.

I was slowing down, actively pressing the brake pedal to bring the vehicle to a full stop. As the car decelerated to what my senses and perception registered as a full stop, I pressed the “P” (Park) button while keeping my foot on the brake pedal. I felt the physical click of the “P” button under my thumb while still holding the brake, and my mind registered that the vehicle had successfully transitioned into Park. Before turning around, I visually confirmed that the vehicle had come to a complete stop. Believing it was fully secured in Park, I turned my head to check on my child in the back seat and naturally released the brake pedal completely. However, the system had actually rejected my command. I assume that the vehicle likely still had a small amount of speed at the exact millisecond I pressed the button, and the computer automatically blocked the “Park” command and kept the car in gear. Because an electric vehicle operates in almost complete silence, with no engine noise or vibration to indicate that it is still in gear, there was no auditory or physical cue to alert me that the car was moving when I released the brake. While my attention was turned toward the back seat for a few seconds, the car quietly began to creep forward, leading directly to the collision with the car in front of me. Following the accident, I found that the vehicle produces slightly different sounds when Park is rejected and when it is successfully engaged. However, the owner’s manual describes only the dashboard message and does not describe these sounds or explain how to distinguish them, so their meanings may be learned only through the failure. At the time of the incident, I was not familiar with the distinction between these two sounds. Because my brain processed the physical press of the button as a successful action, and I had visually confirmed that we were not moving, my focus immediately shifted to my child. I was entirely misled by the digital interface.

My car starting throwing a “check electric vehicle system” warning intermittently beginning on July 7, 2026 which went away when I restarted the car. This happened again on July 27, 2026 three to four times while I was driving. The car did not lose power. As I was going to dealer the warning cleared and no code showed up in my diagnostic history. On August 12, 2026, the car once again showed "check electric vehicle system” and would initially clear when I restarted the car. I then began having intermittent power. Floored, the car would only go 27 mph. Then it would speed up again, then slow again. I was not in “turtle mode.” Luckily, I was able to safely get the car to the dealership without having an accident. DTC P1A8D13 did show in my diagnostics. The technician found that the 12v battery input had melted at the ICCU. This is very dangerous and could have led to a vehicle fire. My 2025 is on its 2nd ICCU (now 3rd) and has not had any recalls, so this is very troubling.

While driving on normal paved roads, a small vibration was heard from the rear of the vehicle. A person near the car when leaving the origin that morning heard a minor clicking sound at low speed from the rear of the vehicle. The vibration at that point seemed to be related to the rural mountain road that had some rutting. Continuing to drive, but onto better roads, the vibration became louder and louder, and appeared related to speed. Nothing appeared loose when stopping to charge. Vibration became loud (above conversation), stopped to inspect. Removed aerodynamic cover from lug nuts on right rear, and found two lugnuts completely sheared off (fell out when cover removed), with a third hanging on at less-than-finger tight. Vehicle driven slowly to safe location where it was towed to dealer. Dealer reported that the rim was bent in addition to sheared lug nuts as well as a damaged wheel bearing.

ICCU failure. Failure happened while merging onto the road from driveway. Upon failure, 12 V battery was drained and car was immobilized. Prior to car mobilization dash read “Check electrical vehicle system” then many different failures appeared on the dash, then the car shut down. This event left us stranded on the road, unable to move to a safer location. Issue was confirmed with dealer and part had to be replaced. Part was original to the car and issue is known by the manufacturer but not being dealt with publicly.

In June 2025, I started a lease on a new Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL. On August 16, 2026, I attempted to start the car, but it immediately beeped and flashed a warning about the 12V battery (I didn't manage to take a picture). It then showed signs of an electrical issue, like flickering interior and exterior lights. It was undrivable. A short time later, there was no power at all. I took out the old 12V battery and measured the voltage with a multimeter, and observed 3.7V. After putting in a new battery, the car operated normally.

Two tires failed dramatically, (on two separate days, but separated by only 121 miles of driving), causing extensive damage the first time and causing a total loss the second time. The first tire has been disposed of, but the second is available still. Each was on the highway and luckily there was not much traffic so I was able to pull safely onto the shoulder each time. However, if I had not been able to get over, our safety and that of others was at risk if we had been involved in a collision. My safety and my that of my elderly, handicapped brother was at risk the first time especially, because this is an EV and at one point on July 4, 100 degree temperatures in the early afternoon in South Carolina, the electrical system had been damaged and we could not, for a few minutes, get doors or windows open. The components (tires) have only been inspected by repair shops. There was no warning either time. The tires are 235/55 R 19.

SAFETY DEFECT REPORT: 2025 HYUNDAI IONIQ 5 HIGH-VOLTAGE BATTERY FAILURE On Sunday, July 5, 2026, at approximately 24,000 miles, the vehicle suddenly displayed a critical dashboard safety alert notifying me of an electrical propulsion failure and explicitly instructing me not to drive the vehicle. The sudden failure entirely disabled the vehicle's driving power and compromised its operational safety. The vehicle was removed from my possession via a flatbed tow on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, and delivered to Southern States Hyundai. On July 11, 2026, the dealership service technicians diagnosed a total high-voltage traction battery pack failure. The dealer opened Repair Order 9651579, and Hyundai Corporate approved a full warranty replacement of the $28,000 battery system. The vehicle remained out of service due to this safety defect for 21 cumulative days until the component replacement was completed on July 29, 2026.

I need to report a serious vehicle safety concern involving a catastrophic front-right tire failure at highway speed. I am requesting a Hyundai case number and preservation of all physical evidence. Please preserve the failed tire, detached tread assembly, bead remnants, wheel, TPMS components and all service records. These items constitute material evidence necessary to determine whether the initiating cause was underinflation, rapid pressure loss, mounting damage, belt separation, bead failure or a manufacturing defect. The vehicle had been returned after approximately one month at a repair facility. After the incident, the three remaining tires measured 41, 35 and 35 psi, while the vehicle placard specifies 38 psi. The pre-failure pressure of the destroyed tire is unknown.

Systemic failure of the electrical architecture and Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) resulting in a sudden, catastrophic loss of motive power. Over 14 months of ownership, this vehicle has suffered four distinct, electrical and charging failures. On June 6, 2026, the vehicle experienced a total ICCU failure. All lights in the car went dark and lost all power without warning, creating an immediate and life-threatening hazard to myself . The vehicle had to be towed. Three prior repair attempts for charging and 12V battery failures were made by the dealer/. They replaced the ICCU, the car currently runs.. The replaced ICCU has not been redesigned and as a result the car is unsafe to take out on the highway or on a long drive.

The car entered a failed ICCU state (not confirmed until the car was looked at by Hyundai at the dealership) while I was driving down to Ano Nuevo regional park. Received a warning on the dash that said that electrical system has failed and to pull over. It restricted me from going over 10 mph on Highway 1 and I eventually pulled over the side of the road and got towed to the dealership. The car is home with me now but I do not feel safe driving this vehicle after all of the reports of ICCU failures. I am very concerned this will happen again and in a more dangerous situation. I was also stranded by this car in March 2026 with a dead battery.
