Owners have filed 796 complaints
about the 2015 Jeep Renegade with NHTSA between 2015 and 2026.
The largest single group is the transmission & drivetrain.
Across this model's run it ranks 3 of 9 worst.
The letter says how bad. This says what kind — whether this year drew
an unusual number of complaints, unusually dangerous
ones, or failures that arrived unusually early.
The dashed ring is 50 — the national norm. Further out is worse.
Complaint volume — 100
Against the median year of the Jeep Renegade. 50 means typical for this
model; 100 means roughly double.
Severity — 20
3.9% of these complaints
involved a crash, fire, injury or death, against a national rate of
9.7%.
Early failure — 93
54% of failures with a mileage on record happened under
36,000 miles, against a national rate of
29%.
NHTSA files every complaint against a named sub-assembly, not just a
system. This is the difference between knowing it was "the engine" and
knowing which part of it — the list to hand a mechanic.

When owners complained
A spike years after the car went on sale usually means a part wearing

NHTSA investigations into the 2015 Jeep Renegade
An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough
complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks
something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Recalls on the 2015 Jeep Renegade
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

TRAILER HITCHES
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Jeep Renegade vehicles manufactured August 25, 2014, to June 25, 2016, equipped with a factory-installed optional trailer hitch package. The trailer hitch assembly may have been attached with only a single fastener per side, not three per side as required.
Risk: Without the proper amount of fasteners, the trailer hitch assembly may separate from the vehicle, and any towed vehicle may no longer be properly connected, increasing the risk of a crash.
16V529000
POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee and 2015 Chrysler 200, Jeep Renegade, RAM ProMaster, and 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions. The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral. On August 29, 2016 Chrysler added the 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles to this recall.
Risk: If the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash.

SUSPENSION:REAR
Daystar Products International, Inc. (Daystar) is recalling certain aftermarket replacement rear control arm brackets included in Daystar's 2015-2016 Jeep Renegade 1.5" spacer kit, part KJ09168BK, shipped from Daystar to distributors between October 27, 2015 and November 5, 2015. The affected spacers may have improper or incomplete welds on the top flange on the rear control arm bracket, that can allow the rear axle to shift while driving.
Risk: If the axle moves there could be an increased risk of a crash.
15V508000
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:CYBERSECURITY
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015 Jeep Renegade vehicles manufactured September 18, 2014, to June 25, 2015. The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.
Risk: Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.
Canada — Transport Canada
Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not
always mirror the American ones.
Recall 2024548314,717 units in Canada
Label
Issue: On certain vehicles, the tire and loading information label does not list that there is no spare tire in both official languages. The label reads as "NONE" when it should read as "NONE / AUCUN". Canadian regulations require the information to be listed on the label in both English and French. Safety Risk: This error does not affect vehicle safety. Corrective Actions: This is not a recall. The company has corrected the tire and loading information label for all new vehicles.
Recall 20163701,034 units in Canada
Accessories
On certain vehicles equipped with an optional factory trailer tow hitch package, the trailer tow hitch may have been incorrectly assembled to the vehicle structure. If operated under this condition, this could cause a partial or complete separation of the trailer tow hitch which would increase the risk of crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and install any missing fasteners to the trailer tow hitch assembly.
Recall 201636135,361 units in Canada
Powertrain
On certain vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, the transmission wire harness may have improper crimps. This could cause an unexpected shift to neutral which could result in a loss of motive power, which in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions may increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will update the software of the Transmission Control Module (TCM), and replace the transaxle wire harness as necessary.
Recall 2015433107 units in Canada
Suspension
On certain vehicles, the bracket fastener for the engine block heater may be too long and could contact the front suspension coil spring, causing wear of the protective coating. If left uncorrected, the front suspension coil spring may corrode over time and fail. Should the front coil spring break, the driver could experience a loss of steering control, and a broken coil spring could contact the tire and cause rapid air loss and/or tire failure, which could affect bringing the vehicle to a controlled stop, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the fastener for the engine block heater bracket and apply corrosion protection to the coil spring.

Motor mounts were damaged and car would shake excessively. got them replaced and they were broken again 3 months later. i have seen several people with the same issue on reddit in jeep renegades models 2015-2016. I was in a fender bender on 8/4/2023 and car was fine for a few days and then it started throwing the engine around again. SUSPENSION
MY FRONT RIGHT WHEEL COMPLETELY SNAPPED & MY TIRE WAS PERPENDICULAR TO ITS NORMAL STATE. THEY HAD TO REPLACE A HOST OF PARTS INCLUDING THE FR AXLE, STRUT, STRUT MOUNT, MOST OF THE SUSPENSION. ROUGHLY 6MO AFTER THE REPAIRS MY JEEP STARTED HAVING A TROUBLING SOUND & FEELING WHILE DRIVING. UPON GOING OVER ANY KIND OF BUMP TURN REGARDLESS OF BREAKING SPEED, I COULD FEEL & HEAR A PART KNOCKING AROUND LIKE A JOINT WAS HITTING THE WALLS OF ITS BRACKET & IT AFFECTED EVERYTHING ABOUT HOW THE CAR HANDLED ANY CHANGE IN DRIVING CONDITIONS. I WENT TO THE TIRES PLUS I HAVE BEEN USING FOR A DECADE TO DIAGNOSE & THEY RECOMMENDED I GET THE STRUT MOUNT REPLACED BUT CAUTIONED THAT THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS A GUESS AS THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE APART THE SUSPENSION TO SEE IF THE MOUNT WAS INDEED THE CULPRIT. I RECOGNIZED THAT THAT PART WAS REPLACED AFTER THE INCIDENT & IMMEDIATELY SAID WAIT, LET ME CHECK W/MY INSURANCE. I RETURNED TO THE FACILITY THAT DID THE REPAIRS & WAS TOLD THAT MY STRUT WAS 'BRAND NEW' & 'PERFECTLY FINE' BUT THAT MY SHOCKS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I SOUGHT A 3RD OPINION - WHO DEDUCED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NEITHER PARTS BUT WAS ACTUALLY THAT MY ALL OF MY SUB MOUNT BOLTS WERE LOOSE & IT WAS CAUSING MY ENTIRE ENGINE TO MOVE AROUND... I WAS LIKE OK, AND WENT HOME, HOWEVER THE ISSUE SLOWLY RETURNED OVER THE COURSE OF 6-8 WEEKS & THEN 1 MO AFTER THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE ORIGINAL REPAIRS I HEARD A LOUD POP/CRACK. MY FRONT RIGHT STRUT COMPLETELY SNAPPED! I CANNOT SHAKE THE FEELING THAT ITS MORE. ALMOST 6 MO SINCE FINAL REPAIRS (NOV-DEC2020) I AM HEARING & FEELING WOBBLING/BANGING IN THE FR & THE SAME HANDLING ISSUES ON BUMPS AND TURNS. **EVENTS ABOVE SUMMARIZED FULL ACCOUNT OF COMPLAINT ATTACHED WITH IMAGES/DOCS**

STRUCTURE:BODY
while the vehicle was being driven at highway speed, a large piece of roof trim detached from the vehicle and went airborne. The piece measures approximately 6 inches by 42 inches, and is stiff plastic. My jeep renegade has the MySky sunroof option, and this trim is a piece that sit just forward of those panels, filling the gap between the sunroof and the metal of the windshield frame. To be clear, this piece is not part of the sunroof itself, it is supposed to be a permanently attached and not movable part of the vehicle. The piece went airborne to the extent that it left the roadway. I was able to return later and recover it. Inspecting the piece and where it attaches, there is no damage to the vehicle or the piece. It attaches only with two sided tape and urethane - it is designed with no true mechanical connection to the vehicle - no clips, bolts, or fasteners. The piece detached as heat and time had degraded the two sided tape and urethane. This is the second time this exact failure has occurred with this vehicle. The first was in August of 2018. The piece was replaced by New Holland Jeep Service, and they acknowledged it as a defect and gave a warranty extension as a courtesy. Searching online, this is a known issue for owners of Jeep Renegades with the MySky option. This is a hazard and negligent design. A large panel like this should not be held on with tape and glue. It is fortunate that there was no traffic behind the vehicle either time this piece detached and went airborne. It is easy to imagine a scenario where this could have caused an accident. Given that these panels rely on only adhesive to remain attached to the vehicle, the danger of these detaching grows with time as heat and age weaken the tape + urethane.

POWER TRAIN
I am writing to report a recurring safety issue with my vehicle’s transmission. When attempting to accelerate into traffic, the engine revs high but fails to deliver power to the wheels, acting as if it is in neutral. This failure to shift into gear has occurred several times and poses a significant safety risk. I have maintained the vehicle regularly, including recent fluid changes. My research indicates that this year and model are subject to Recall 16V529000, which specifically addresses the 9-SPD 948TE automatic transmission found in my vehicle. I have no record of this recall being performed on my car.

I’ve located several other complaints with similar issues: 11585014; 11142232; 11023686. This is clearly a defective issue with Jeep Renegades and a safety concern that should be a recall.

I purchased in 2015 (Jeep Renegade). The dealership promised a “lifetime warranty” for the duration of my ownership, but despite repeated service visits over the past 10 years for persistent electrical problems, they have refused to honor this warranty. It has come to my recent attention that the two major reasons jeep has stopped making the Renegade was due to electrical and engine issues. Both issues with my car never told to me, and games are being played. Key points: I have complete documentation: purchase receipts, service records, text messages, and emails confirming the warranty and the repeated service attempts. The dealership now claims they have no record of my purchase. I was assured by a service representative that the issues were covered under warranty so I brought it there time and time again. The last time I brought it in the representative was working on it under warranty, but the representative was later terminated while still working to resolve the problem. These service manager, Keri has played games to avoid repairs and has even tried to tell me that I didnt buy my car there when I have proof I did. She said my receipts mean nothing and aren't proof. Its been a non stop headache for almost 10 years when all they had to do was be honest from the beginning. This car has had these problems on and off since 2017 and caused the dealer to have to replace the engine due to this parasitic draw. Each time pretending to fix it and not doing so. These issues have caused significant inconvenience, expenses, and emotional stress over a decade. I would like to explore: Enforcing the lifetime warranty and having the electrical issues properly fixed free of charge Pursuing remedies under Tennessee’s consumer protection laws for unfair or deceptive trade practices. Discussing compensation for damages resulting from the dealership’s repeated failures to repair the vehicle. I am fully prepared to provide all documentation, a detailed timeline of events
