2017 Nissan Maxima Pennsauken, NJ Crash

WHEELS

My son was driving my car to work and this is his account of the incident On 1/17/2026 on I95 n, the steering wheel abruptly stopped controlling the wheels. It was as if it completely disconnected and he lost control and crashed into the median. It was a terrifying incident for my son. No other cars were involved. This accident has been reported to my insurance company. This car has been a smooth ride since I've had it. It has UNDER 70,000 miles even though it's a 2017 Nissan Maxima. There were no warning or messages on the dash. I have been ill so the process of getting the car appraised or considered for repairs has just begun. I incurred towing charges and rental fees. My son is having headaches and back pain since this incident. What made it extremely scary is that it happened suddenly.

My main issue that has caused major concern is while I was driving down the road. The steering all of a sudden jerked and I was almost in an accident. I immediately took it down to my mechanic and he stated that the control arm of the vehicle was bad. I did replace all four tires and got an alignment prior to this happening. Now,this was the most serious incident. I purchased this vehicle in 2022. I have had nothing but problems with it. The first two months I had it. I had to replace the mass airflow sensor not only once but twice. Then a couple months later the serpentine belt went out, replaced that, then of course it goes out again 6th months later. Replaced again!. In addition to that I have had several electrical issues, I think I replaced more tail lights, fog lights, and headlights on this vehicle than all my previous vehicles put together and I have owned many. The engine makes a funny sound every time I accelerate, I have yet to diagnose that one. The fuel door spring busted which results in my check engine light always on, the visor broke and won't stay up, had to replace that. I have been through 4 sets of tires since I purchased it. I only live a mile from work, I don't put a lot of miles on the vehicle. I have a disabled wife and I need reliable transportation. I have spent thousands of dollars to fix this car and the problems keep coming. I've almost spent more money on it than the car payment and insurance for 3 years. There is definitely something wrong with this vehicle and I think Nissan corporation should be held liable.

My brakes dont work unless my 3 dashboard lights come on. Slip, tcs and abs. Sometimes I forget and drive off. When I brake at the light you could here the wires buzzing as if there was a short circuit. Finally on my passenger side in the 'back, the tire was wiggling and noticed some lugs were missing plus the hubs lugs were loose. I haven' t taken to go get it inspected because I dont have money at the moment.

On 9/12/22, my son purchased a 2009 Nissan Maxima from Street Cars. My son was told that the car did not pass the state inspection, but all items on the list were taken care of. The salesman noted the Air Intake Tube would be ordered for the car and installed once received. My son paid $5299 in cash. My son wanted to pay with a cashier's check, but the salesperson requested cash. On the way home to Woodbridge from Fredericksburg, the vehicle began to slow down as if it were going to cut off. My son slowed down and proceeded home. On 9/13/22, my son went to Minnieville Exxon to have the vehicle emissions test completed, and the car was listed as "Not Ready." In addition, seven (7) additional issues must be addressed before the vehicle can pass. We began calling the salesman at 11:45 am, sent a text message at 12:17 pm, and called until 1:30 pm. Due to what we felt were deceptive practices, we traveled to Street Cars in Fredericksburg to speak with the salesman about returning the vehicle for a refund. The salesman stated the vehicle was sold "As Is” and is on the Bill of Sales. We asked about the sign on the front of his business which states "3-Day Return Policy". The salesman said it does not apply to cash cars or discounted cars. When asked about the items on the failed inspection report being taken care of, the salesperson refused to discuss it further. The salesperson stated my son should use the warranty, where he will be responsible for half the cost of all repairs. When the salesperson was asked about the Air Intake Tube order, he refused to provide a confirmation number for the order, a telephone number, or a location for the company. My son did not receive any title paperwork and was told to sign the vehicle delivery form when items had not been received. We contacted ASC Warranty company which was provided with the vehicle, and they told us to take the car to any automotive repair shop for an estimate. We took the vehicle to Sheehy Nissan in Manas

the vehicle failed front wheel bearing replacement. I took it to the mechanic because when i was driving there was a very loud noise and didn't feel well. The mechanic told me that I could have had an accident because the tire was about to come off the vehicle.

2019 Nissan Maxima Matawan, NJ

WHEELS

The lug nuts on this vehicle are covered with a thin stainless "cap". This cap can, and was, easily damaged and deformed when attempting to remove it to change a tire. The stainless steel "cap" was able to rotate without rotating the lug nut it was covering. This made it impossible to remove the wheel. This is a very poor and dangerous design as a driver can be stranded with a flat tire and no way to remove the lug nuts holding the wheel to the vehicle. The vehicle had to be towed to a mechanic who had to cut away the cap and remove it from the covered lug nut before the lug not could be removed.

PURCHASED 2017 NISSAN MAXIMA AT PASSPORT OF MARLOW HEIGHTS ON 3/17/20. TOOK CAR TO FIRST SERVICE AT PASSPORT ON 6/22/20 FOR OIL CHANGE & TIRE ROTATION. AFTER FURTHER ISSUES WITH MY FRONT LEFT WHEEL AND GOING TO SHEEHY OF WALDORF FOR MY SECOND SERVICE I DISCOVERED THAT PASSPORT OF MARLOW HEIGHTS SERVICE ADVISOR DID NOT NOTIFY ME OF "THE LEFT WHEEL STUD ISSUE" WHILE PURCHASING THE CAR AND UNTIL A WEEK AFTER MY INITIAL SERVICE VISIT OF 6/22/20. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT PASSPORT REPORTED A INCORRECT SERVICE DATE OF 6/25/20 TO COVER UP THE LATE MULTI-POINT "LUG NUT" NOTIFICATION. ON 1/8/2021 2ND SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AT SHEEHY OF WALDORF, I REQUESTED OIL CHANGE, TIRE ROTATE, 4-WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND BALANCE. SHEEHY FOUND: LUG NUTS WERE CROSSED THREADED WHICH CAUSED STUDS TO BE MESSED UP AS WELL. SHEEHY "REPLACED 2 LUG NUTS AND 2 STUDS ON DRIVER FRONT TIRE." FOR AN ADDED AMOUNT OF $251.53. I LEFT SHEEHY OF WALDORF AFTER MY SERVICE AND AS I ACCELERATED, I FELT STRONG VIBRATION AT EACH INTERVAL, I RETURNED TO SHEEHY AND ASKED FOR SOMEONE TO RIDE WITH ME. A SHOP FOREMAN DROVE MY CAR AND HE FELT THE VIBRATION AT EACH INTERVAL. THE FOREMAN TOOK VEHICLE BACK IN GARAGE AND INSPECTED WHEELS "& FOUND THAT THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL HAS BEEN WELDED & THE WELD HAS SPLIT & CRACKED. THE OTHER 3 WHEELS HAVE BENDS IN THE WHEEL & OUT OF ROUND" VIDEO & PHOTO PROVIDED BY SHEEHY. SHEEHY ALSO INFORMED THAT AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON: TOOK CAR BACK TO PASSPORT TO RE-INSPECT WHEELS/RIM/AIR BAG ISSUES THEY CREATED AND AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH I FOUND: AIR BAG RECALL: REPORT RECEIPT DATE: APR 26, 2016 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V244000 COMPONENT(S): AIR BAGS - AIR BAGS: SENSOR: OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION. THE NISSAN MAXIMA HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE MAINTENANCE FACILITY REGARDING AN ISSUE WITH THE TIRES CONSISTENTLY LOSING AIR PRESSURE. FOUR NEW TIRES WERE PLACED ON THE VEHICLE AT THE NISSAN DEALER AND THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTS. WE RECENTLY DROVE TO THE END OF OUR DRIVEWAY FOR DISTANCE TRAVEL AND THE TIRES LOCKED, SKIDDED AND SOUNDED AS IF METAL WAS TOUCHING METAL. WE PARKED THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO TAKE OTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. EACH TIME WE TAKE THE VEHICLE INTO THE NISSAN DEALER FOR THIS AND SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, WE'RE TOLD IT MAY BE THE WEATHER, OR THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT WHICH STAYS ON MAY BE DUE TO A DEFECTIVE FUSE, BUT THAT WAS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE TIRE ISSUE WOULD BE RESOLVED. WE GET DIFFERENT POSSIBILITY ISSUES EACH TIME WE GO IN. WE HESITATE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR POSSIBILITY OF BEING STRANDED ALONGSIDE A HIGHWAY. WE'RE MAKING PAYMENTS ON AN EXPENSIVE 'PAPER WEIGHT.' THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT STAYS ON, AND EVEN AFTER PUTTING AIR IN THE TIRES, THE TIRES THEMSELVES STILL POSE A PROBLEM. THIS RECENT INCIDENT HAS PUT THE VEHICLE OUT OF USE UNTIL THE NISSAN MAINTENANCE FACILITY CAN GIVE US ANSWERS AS TO WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON WITH THE VEHICLE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN PUT AIR IN THE TIRES, AND AFTER QUOTING LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY FOR WHAT MAY "POSSIBLY' BE THE PROBLEM, WE MAY STILL DRIVE AWAY WITH THE ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR OVER 1 1/2 YEARS. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT IS INDICATED BELOW.
