I have not the slightest idea what is going on with the vehicle that I just bought on June 25th 2026. I have a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas crossover and the car stopped on me three times today. And when I arrived in my garage it said that the engine was hot. I will be taking it to the dealership tomorrow.

The media center does not shut off when my car shuts off, I brought it to Ken Garf Volkswagen dealership on June 25 when my car died. They did a diagnostic. I picked it up and they said there was nothing they could do about the media center because there are no software updates for it. So basically the plan was to just have my car continue dying. On July 10, it died again for the same reason.

The vehicle SOS communication/warning system began malfunctioning in February 2026. I am receiving an alert stating there is an SOS Malfunction and to service the vehicle immediately. On February 18, 2026, the VW dealership conducted extensive testing on the vehicle and determined that the J949 SOS module required replacement as it could not be reset or remedied. Diagnosis - internal electrical failure. The dealership advised that this is a known issue to VW and that there are several other customers with the same issue and waiting for the modules, which are on backorder with VW. There is no communication between the vehicle and VW as a result, and the infotainment system is unable to update. The service tech advised that there are a number or potential issues that will arise because this is a vehicle communication failure. I was forced to prepay for the module and labor, which was ordered on 2/18 (in excess of $500). On 5/26/26 the VW dealership service manager confirmed that the module still has not arrived from VW and that there may be a recall issued because this is such a widespread problem, but that they have no estimated delivery time for the part. The vehicle has had no problems prior to this. If the car is in an accident, there will be no SOS function. The infotainment system, which controls CarNet and the ability to communicate using CarPlay will also be compromised, which may result in the inability to call for assistance in event of an incident. VW Customer Service states they have no ability to track service orders or provide information on the ongoing issue, and stated that the dealership has the only ability to track the part. The dealership cannot check the status beyond acknowledging that the part is on backorder. This is a widely reported problem online in multiple forums and with multiple VW models. We are paying for a part and waiting multiple months to obtain it, and the vehicle is compromised due to the failure of VW.

2025 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Tucson, AZ

2025 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport experienced repeated intermittent electrical and electronic malfunctions while driving. The infotainment screen repeatedly froze, became unresponsive, or turned black/blue while operating the vehicle. Apple CarPlay malfunctioned repeatedly, and multiple USB ports appeared to damage connected electronic devices. Warning messages including “12V battery is not charging” and “Key not detected” appeared intermittently. Vehicle has been taken to the Volkswagen dealership multiple times for diagnosis and repair attempts. Dealer stated they were unable to permanently diagnose or duplicate the issue because the failures are intermittent. Vehicle remained at dealership for extended periods during repair attempts. Electrical malfunctions create driver distraction and concern regarding reliability of the vehicle’s electrical system while driving. Failure of infotainment and warning systems while operating the vehicle may affect driver awareness and vehicle safety. Problem continues intermittently despite multiple service visits.

Repeated sensors go off simultaneously, brake assist, lane assist, rear brake maneuver assist and the infotainment system will reboot altogether causing the entire system to reboot and black out. The screen has not come on at times and and entire system will reboot. The vehicle has been to Hendrick dealership in [XXX] multiple times and has not been repaired and they keep saying they can’t replicate the problem, even though I have photos and video of the incidents. I have also documented when the malfunctions occur. I due have an attorney. Volkswagen is claiming the car is functioning properly, but the same problems keep occurring with no solution to the problem. This is a major safety concern and this is my only vehicle to drive. I have a lot of photos and all work orders, I can’t upload everything due to limited files that can be uploaded. While driving, the vehicle experiences intermittent electrical malfunctions affecting multiple systems. The door locks cycle repeatedly, windows roll down on their own, and when attempting to roll the windows back up, they immediately roll back down. The dashboard lights flicker, become extremely bright, and at times go out completely. The central display (including Apple CarPlay) also shuts off entirely. Multiple warning alerts appear, including emergency brake warnings. These failures occur while the vehicle is in motion and create a safety risk due to loss of system visibility, inability to control vehicle functions, and unexpected vehicle behavior. The vehicle was initially taken to an independent repair shop due to these issues, where I was informed of Recall 97GF (wiring harness issue), which is associated with the same electrical failures. The vehicle was then taken to a dealership for recall service. The dealership retained the vehicle for approximately one week and advised that the repair resolved the issue. The vehicle operated normally for approximately three weeks following the repair. However, on or about [XXX], the same electrical issues reoccurred. The vehicle was returned to the dealership on February 20th, where it remained in service for over 45 days. Despite multiple repair attempts and extended time in service, the issue was not resolved and continues to occur. The dealership has indicated that the recall procedure was completed, but the original condition persists. The issue was also escalated directly to Volkswagen of America through a customer care case. The manufacturer reviewed the situation and stated that the recall procedure had been completed and the condition was no longer considered related to the recall. The case was subsequently closed without resolution, and the vehicle continues to experience the same electrical failures. New buy today 3/16/2025 from Carvana. Anyhow took vehicle to get a diagnostic and reputable mechanic shop. The auto scanner would continuously stall on the transmission check, would not produce a report nor respond. We did get a good reading for the engine but not once after several attempts would it generate a reading for the transmission. I am concerned as there does appear to be a slight jerk when shifting from one gear to the next, not a smooth transition at all between gears. Not the smoothest ride. There is definitely an issue and I'm sure others are experiencing this...unfortunately.

The vehicle’s infotainment and connectivity system has malfunctioned since the day the vehicle was purchased. This includes the integrated GPS navigation system and Bluetooth phone connectivity. The system frequently freezes, disconnects, fails to recognize the phone, or stops functioning while the vehicle is in operation. These systems are critical for navigation and hands free communication while driving. The issue has occurred repeatedly since purchase and has not been successfully repaired despite multiple service visits. The vehicle and system are available for inspection upon request. The problem has been reported to and evaluated by the authorized Volkswagen dealership multiple times. The dealer has acknowledged the malfunction and has attempted to diagnose the issue during several service visits. The dealer has also informed me that there is a national service bulletin related to this issue but that there is currently no available fix. The issue began immediately after the vehicle was purchased. Symptoms include the infotainment system freezing, navigation failure, loss of Bluetooth connectivity, and the system failing to recognize or maintain phone pairing. These failures occur intermittently and without warning during normal operation of the vehicle. The vehicle has been inspected multiple times by an authorized Volkswagen dealership service department. To date the issue has not been resolved despite repeated attempts. I have also contacted Volkswagen Customer Care to open a case regarding the defect.

Vehicle shimmies/shakes when braking of speeds over 50 mph. It is currently at the VW service center and was informed the Electro-Mechanical Steering gear needs to be replaced. Rear camera, back over prevention system malfunction. While driving approximately 75 mph on an interstate highway, the engine suddenly shut off without warning. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the failure. Power was lost while the vehicle was still moving at highway speed. When the engine shut off, I lost propulsion and had to coast across lanes to reach the shoulder while surrounded by fast-moving traffic. Steering and braking were reduced and required extra effort. This created an immediate and serious safety risk to myself and other drivers. After safely stopping, I was able to restart the vehicle. It drove again, but the cause of the shutdown was unknown. I brought the vehicle to a Volkswagen dealership for inspection. They stated they could not replicate the issue and no fault codes were found, so no repair was performed. The vehicle has not been repaired and remains in the same condition as when the failure occurred. The component that failed is unknown, but it appears to involve the engine, fuel, electrical, or computer control system that caused the engine to shut off while the vehicle was in motion. This event put my life and the lives of others at risk due to sudden loss of power at highway speed. I do not feel the vehicle is safe to drive because the failure occurred without warning and without explanation, and it could happen again.

The car was purchased brand new in 2020. In 2022, the heating core broke and had to be replaced. This has happened again. This is a safety issue, the defroster is blowing cold air and not clearing the windshield properly. Having to drive a vehicle while freezing is also a safety hazard. A vehicle that is 5 years old, should not have this happen twice. Volkswagen was contacted and said there was not anything they could do. I read online that many with 2019 & 2020 Atlas & Atlas Cross sports are having the same issue. It should not take an accident to happen for Volkswagen to do something, Volkswagen needs to correct this issue ASAP.

There’s a chemical smell entering the cabin of my vehicle from the engine ever since my car was serviced at the dealership. I’ve had headaches burning, watering eyes, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, eye twitching, and generally unwell. My daughter has had a cough and they refused to acknowledge any issue. They changed the filter and clean the vents and they’re saying nothing‘s wrong. There’s been multiple – alert since I bought the vehicle in April with them being the lane assist, throwing code all the time while I’m driving in any conditions the front assist as well and the brakes needing some plug that was missing from it and now a light sensor is not working as well and the dealership isn’t being any help. I escalated it to a corporate and they’re saying there’s nothing they can do. I’ve been without my car for a week as it’s been in the shop and I have had a rental and since then I haven’t experienced any symptoms and now they’re wanting to give me the car back because they can’t find anything wrong, but I fear for mine and my kids, health and safety to be in that vehicle

Infotainment screen has had issues since the last recall completed on or about July 21st 2025. Currently my Infotainment screen and heads up window is not operational as of October 24, 2025. I keep doing a soft reset which corrects it for may be a day or so. But clearly its only getting worse and it continues to happen even in the middle of driving. I shouldn't have to continuously reset the screen every other day. Amongst this bigger issue I also have issues with car play it doesnt work or just stops working and neither does the car charger/usb ports. They work when they get ready to. I'm also having issues with the remote start. It works when it gets ready to, with a full tank of gas. This car has 12000 miles and not having the safety components working as they should is not good. No radio no safety sensors no backup camera no navigation is a hassle that noone should be experiencing with out a fix. I know this is common I just want a permanent fix because the update recall clearly was not it.

Twice now I have had the vehicle not want to shift appropriately in low gears. When this happens, the vehicle locks up and will not move. Both times, VW has had. Tow get the vehicle and take it in for repair. 1st time was software update. Now it’s there for the second time with no answer as what’s wrong. They have replaced parts but cannot figure out why it’s not shifting correctly. At VW in Texarkana now. 3 weeks and no answers…both times this happened I was on the highway. Dangerous to have the car just not go anymore and leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere at night!
