NHTSA crash tests

The agency crash-tested this model year itself. These are its own photographs and star ratings.

These stars come from the pre-2011 crash test programme. NHTSA rebuilt the programme for the 2011 model year and states that ratings either side of that change are not comparable — so do not read these against a 2011-or-newer car's stars.

Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. Canada — Transport Canada

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2019117 83,977 units in Canada

Airbag

Issue: On certain vehicles, there could be a problem with the driver-front airbag inflator. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, pieces could be propelled toward the occupants. This could also cause damage to the airbag assembly and prevent it from inflating properly. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles that had a Takata airbag inflator installed during a previous airbag recall or collision repair. Safety Risk: In a crash where the airbag deploys, there could be an increased risk of injury. Corrective Action: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the driver-front airbag inflator replaced.

Recall 2016249 28,929 units in Canada

Airbag

On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the airbag inflator. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected.

Recall 2015225 704,770 units in Canada

Airbag

On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Note: This recall supersedes special service campaign 2014567. Correction: Dealers will inspect/replace the driver's frontal airbag inflator. All vehicles having received a replacement inflator as part of any previous driver's inflator campaign will have a replacement inflator installed. Note: Honda Canada has created a special Airbag Inflator Hotline for immediate assistance. For more information, please contact: For Honda Owners: 1-877-445-7754 For Acura Owners: 1-877-445-9844

Recall 2014567 704,770 units in Canada

Airbag

Honda Canada is conducting a voluntary Safety Improvement Campaign concerning the driver's airbag inflator on certain vehicles equipped with Takata airbags. Honda will replace the driver's inflator on affected vehicles. This action is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Note: This special service campaign was replaced by recall 2015225. Please see recall 2015225 for more information: <a href="http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/7/VRDB-BDRV/search-recherche/detail.aspx?lang=eng&&rn=2015225">Click here for more information</a>

Recall 2012415 52,441 units in Canada

Powertrain

On certain vehicles, the ignition interlock blocking mechanism could become damaged if excessive force is applied to the ignition key. If this occurs, it may become possible for the driver to remove the ignition key when the gear selector is in a position other than the Park position. This could allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash causing personal injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install an updated ignition interlock lever and replace the ignition lock cylinder if necessary.

One buckle (PART NO: 04813-S3V-A62ZC) arrived but the other one has been backordered for a while now (almost a year) and there's no ETA from American Honda on when the part (PART NO: 04816-S3V-A61ZC) will be available. This is a safety issue since the Airbag will not deploy in case of accident. Hope you guys can help me expedite the process and escalate the issue with American Honda. Thank you soo much!

I had major maintenance at Acura Hopkins 2 and 3 years ago, I had a new steering pump and hoses changed 5 months ago and new front and rear brakes 3 months ago. Many people who are familiar with cars tell me that it was probably the rings. I don't know it may be the transmission? I was in a parking mode and was leaving the parking lot. I reversed my car lo leave, and the car went out of control and was not until it crashed on two other parked cars that came to a stop. Then, After reversing my car, when trying to put it into drive, it would not move. When I tried to turn it off, the engine (re) started again and it worked so I could clear the path for other cars and wait until the police came. I had major maintenance at Acura Hopkins 2 and 3 years ago, I had a new steering pump and hoses changed 5 months ago and new front and rear brakes 3 months ago. Many people who are familiar with cars tell me that it was probably the rings. I don't know it may be the transmission? There was a police report as there were two other cars involved and both with severe damages. State Farm considered my car totaled despite the large amount of money spent to bring this car to almost new condition.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Multiple lights appear turn on and off indicated on dashboard, VGA, check engine light, and tire pressure system. I run a diagnostics and it says my Evap System had a code telling me to replace gas cap. I went to the auto parts store and purchased a new gas cap that is specifically for my vehicle. I turn the vehicle back on and code is still on. So I get the code erased with my diagnostic reader and the sensor turns off. But give it a few weeks and that light turns back with same code telling me to replace gas cap. I went back to return my gas cap at AutoZone. Then ordered an OEM gas cap for my vehicle and erased code and then code came back less than a month later. It can’t be two brand new parts, one was a universal part but specific to my vehicle. And second part was OEM specifically for my vehicle and from Acura/Honda parts department. So I don’t know what to do because repair said its a dumb code and just reset if I already replaced once. And don’t worry about the code indicator because the Evap system appears to be working. So it’s either an electrical issue or a glitch. I’m not comfortable with those options

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE WOULD APPLY BRAKES SECONDS BEFORE THE VSA LIGHT AND TRIANGLE LIGHT SHOWS UP. BOTH LIGHTS WILL STAY ON UNTIL THE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. THIS HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES AND GETTING LOUDER AND THE BRAKING MUCH MORE PRONOUNCED. IF ROADS ARE SLIPPERY THE VEHICLE WOULD SKID. DEALER FIRST BLAMED IT ON SOME SENSOR FLUID. AFTER SPENDING OVER $400 THEY NOW THINK ITS THE YAW SENSOR. I STRONGLY DO NOT THINK THEY KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM STARTED MORE THAN A YEAR AGO.

I DISCOVERED SEVERE FRAME RUST UNDER MY REAR BUMPER COVER. LARGE CHUNKS OF RUSTED METAL ARE EASILY PULLED OFF BY HAND. I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THE ABILITY OF THE BUMPER/FRAME TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY TO MY FAMILY IN THE EVENT OF A REAR COLLISION. THE PICTURES I'VE SUBMITTED ARE AT LEAST THREE YEARS OLD. I SUSPECT THE SITUATION HAS DETERIORATED SINCE THEN. THESE WERE THE PICS I SUBMITTED TO ACURA AT THAT TIME, WHEN THEY INFORMED ME THEY COULD DO NOTHING AS MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I'VE SINCE FOUND REPORTS OF OTHERS WITH SIMILAR RUST PROBLEMS ON THEIR ACURA MDX AS WELL AS HONDA PILOTS, WHICH I BELIEVE SHARE THE SAME FRAME ASSEMBLY'
