Recalls on the 2014 Acura MDX
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.
Canada — Transport Canada
Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not
always mirror the American ones.
Recall 2026275136,260 units in Canada
Structure
Issue: On certain vehicles, the suspension mounting points on the rear subframe could rust. As a result, rear suspension components could fail. This could lead to poor handling and a loss of vehicle control. Safety Risk: A loss of control could create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Honda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and install a rear subframe reinforcement kit or replace the subframe, as necessary.
Recall 202521240,454 units in Canada
Lights And Instruments
Issue: On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a Honda or Acura dealer during recall AL65/AL66 (Transport Canada recall no. 2019-159) may not have been effective. As a result, a second repair is required. On certain vehicles, water could enter the tail lamps on the tailgate and cause a short circuit. As a result, the fuse could blow and cause a complete loss of rear lighting. Note: This recall replaces recall AL65/AL66 (Transport Canada recall no. 2019-159). Vehicles that previously had a fuse harness installed under that recall do not require this repair. Safety Risk: A loss of rear lighting could make the vehicle less visible and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Acura will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to install a fuse harness. The dealer will also inspect and, if necessary, replace the tail lamps on the tailgate and repair the body dust sealer.
Recall 201915932,880 units in Canada
Lights And Instruments
This recall was replaced by Transport Canada recall no. 2025-212. Issue: On certain vehicles, water could enter the tail lamps located on the tailgate. This could cause the tail lamps not to work properly. This could also cause a fuse to blow, which could result in a complete loss of rear lighting. Safety Risk: A loss of rear lighting could make the vehicle less visible and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the tailgate lid lamps. If either lamp is not working, the dealer will replace both lamps and inspect/replace the fuse. If both tailgate lid lamps are working, the dealer will modify the lamps, and install updated gaskets and wiring.
Recall 201528110,220 units in Canada
Engine
On certain vehicles, some lots of A/C compressor clutch drive bolts may be defective. If the A/C clutch drive falls off the vehicle during operation while the vehicle is underway, the clutch drive could strike another vehicle, stationary object, or bystander, causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the clutch drive bolt, and if necessary install a new clutch plate.
Recall 20152013,387 units in Canada
Brakes
On certain vehicles, the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) could unexpectedly activate while operating the vehicle. In rare cases, the system may interpret certain roadside objects, such as metal fences or metal guardrails, as obstacles and apply emergency braking through the CMBS. If the CMBS applies unexpected emergency braking force during normal operation, it could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will update the vehicle sofware for the system.
Recall 20144534,010 units in Canada
Seats And Restraints
On certain vehicles, in temperatures below minus 20° Celsius, the ability of the driver's and front passenger's seatbelt to extend and/or retract may be affected. This would result in a seatbelt that cannot be used properly or as it was intended, and could increase the potential for injury to the seat occupant(s) in a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the driver's seatbelt and front passenger's seatbelt.
Recall 20134063,074 units in Canada
Powertrain
On certain vehicles equipped with all wheel drive, drive shaft bolts may have been insufficiently tightened at time of assembly and could loosen over time. This could cause the drive shaft to detach, which would result in excessive noise and possible damage to the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the bolts and repair as necessary.
Recall 20132502 units in Canada
Electrical
Certain trailer hitch accessory wiring kits may have been manufactured incorrectly and could cause a trailer brake controller malfunction. This could result in in increased stopping distances when towing a trailer, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will affect repairs.

ABS VSA malfunction light comes up constantly and car rattles when brakes are used. It’s constantly turned on even with good road conditions. There are millions of customer complaints on the web about this issue and I believe this should be logged as a major issue which should be logged a recall and offered as a fix to customers who have these car models and issues. My daughter was driving the car and experienced issues on freeway when braking. The car slipped to the side when brakes were pushed and the whole car was shaking and unstable.

SUSPENSION
Recall/Campaign Reference: Rear subframe/rear suspension safety recall, ~880,000+ Acura MDX vehicles (MY 2014–2020), due to risk of rear suspension component failure causing loss of vehicle control. Complaint Narrative: I own a 2014 Acura MDX (VIN [XXX]) subject to Honda's rear subframe safety recall for suspension components Honda has identified as posing a risk of failure, potentially causing loss of vehicle control and increasing crash/injury risk. I brought my vehicle to Acura of Arrowhead, AZ (authorized dealer) for the recall repair. The dealer had recall subframe parts in stock, but upon inspection found the bolt securing the Left Rear Lower Arm A rusted and seized, causing the bushing to separate. The dealer advised the bolt must be cut and the Left Rear Lower Arm A (Part No. 52370TZ5A90) replaced, along with the right-side arm (52375TZ5A9) and Upper/Lower Bolts (90118TZ5A10, 90981TZ5A01). I was informed Part No. 52370TZ5A90 is unavailable anywhere in the U.S. — no dealer, no aftermarket, no third-party source — for an indefinite period with no ETA. As a result, the recall repair cannot be completed, despite an actively corroded, failing component already identified on my vehicle. I must continue operating this vehicle with a known, documented safety defect because Honda cannot supply the needed part, with no resolution timeline. This complaint documents: Recall remedy cannot be completed due to nationwide parts unavailability. Vehicle has an active rusted/seized failure in the exact recalled component. No interim safety guidance or parts timeline provided. I request NHTSA investigate Honda's parts supply chain adequacy for this recall, given the scale (880,000+ vehicles) and inability to supply a critical safety part. Requested Action: Investigate parts availability/remedy completion rate for this campaign; require American Honda Motor Co., Inc. to provide owners a documented parts timeline and/or interim safety guidance. I discovered my back taillight is foggy and the lights are not seen. Capital City Honda provided an estimate: driver side taillight assembly replacement. Foggy taillight assembly affecting brightness and visibility. Cost $639.99 I then discovered there is a recall for moisture getting into the taillight causing this problem. Honda said my VIN is not included, but suggested I take it back to Capital City Honda to write a diagnosis, which I did and which is attached. Honda advised me today that since my VIN is not included, there is nothing they will do. I just spent about $3,000 for a tune up and new brakes so another $639 is just too much, especially since this is an issue caused by the manufacturer. I am trying to understand why my car isn't covered, when it has this issue. I've attached my email to Honda, the diagnosis and the recall.

A connecting rod bearing is failing in my 2014 Acura MDX which could have led to complete engine failure while driving my family. Absolute Auto Center of Berlin, CT confirmed the issue and noted that Acura has recalled 2016-2020 MDX models due to connecting rod bearing defects but have not expanded the recall to include earlier model years that are also impacted. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to or during the issue, it was identified due to a loud knocking with the engine around 3-4,000 RPMs.

This car is consistently garaged. It was pulled out one morning and a large sheet of paint peeled off roof while it was sitting in the driveway. This is a major concern as I don't feel comfortable driving the car for fear more will come off, affecting another driver on the highway. I've had to borrow a car until it can be fixed. Spoke to ACURA and this is a KNOWN issue for this color paint but they will not stand by their product. We have received no information from ACURA regarding this issue as they claim.

my daughter drove the vehicle for an appointment. Parked it went in and upon return, started it but could not turn the steering wheel. It was nearly impossible to turn the wheel. When turned with force, it would vibrate. Message popped up stating "Power Steering System (EPS) Problem". I had it towed to my mechanic who identified the problem but wasn't able to obtain the parts due to non-availability. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership (McGrath Acura of Libertyville) where it still remains. It has been there for about two weeks as of Dec. 17, 2025 and still not updates on when the issue would be fixed. I made a phone call complaint to Honda of America three days ago. They left a message today asking me to call back stating a recall (I don't find any EPS recalls while I've found others who have had the same issue. The dealer did quote me a cost of $1247.25 to fix the problem the day after I dropped it with them. Since then absolutely no response. I called Honda of America to follow up on their call but was not able to talk to the person as it went to their voicemail. I left a message and will follow up again tomorrow. I am the original owner of the vehicle and the vehicle has always been serviced on time based on the manufacturer's recommendations with the dealer and an independent mechanic. Thank you.

The EPS system failed while driving on a major highway. I was in the passing (left) lane, and had to manually steer the vehicle. I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealership. The service department has had the vehicle for almost 2 weeks. They said that when they ran the diagnostic, there was a code. They cleared the code, and drove the vehicle. They were unable to duplicate the incident. The service advisor said it may have been a “glitch.” That’s an extremely dangerous “glitch.” I have read that many other people have had the same issue with the same vehicle. This may have fatal consequences. If I had not been strong enough to steer the vehicle, I may have experienced a relatively high-speed collision.

I change my own engine oil every 3,000 miles. During the past year with three oil changes completed, I have observed aluminum pieces in the bottom of the oil change black pan. Because my wife's 2017 Acura TLX was the subject of the crankshaft and connecting rod campaign (the dealer had to replace the crankshaft and all of the connecting rod and main bearings) I am familiar with the issue of non-concentric crankshaft connecting rod journals, and so have been surprised that my 2014 MDX with the same 3.5 L V6 has not yet been included. I am pretty sure it does suffer from the same defect as evidenced by the aluminum in the engine oil. If it fails at hihway speeds, that would possibly cause a safety incident.

My vehicle has a hesitation and kick when it is at 35-40 mph about 1.8 to 2 on the tachometer. I took it in to the dealer and it needs transmission repair. I researched on the internet and it seems like thousands of others are having or have had the same problem. I purchased a lifetime powertrain warranty from Scott Clark Honda when i purchased the vehicle to cover these problems and the warranty company and Scott Clark Honda are trying to get out of repair. There are no lights or warning lamps on the vehicle. It just kicks and studders when you get to 35-40 mph which is the speed in the city limits. It is easy to get hit or run over when the vehicle does not go when you press the gas peddle. I would like to file a national case against Acura and Scott Clark Honda
