I am reporting a potential safety defect involving the rear windshield glass on my Acura MDX. The rear windshield unexpectedly shattered while the vehicle was stationary, with no known impact or contact with an outside object. I was present when the glass shattered and immediately took multiple photographs and videos before the vehicle was moved. Based on what I observed, the glass appeared to break outward rather than from an outside object striking the vehicle. I later drove the vehicle from my home to the Acura dealership after being advised to do so. By the time the vehicle was inspected, portions of the shattered glass were understandably missing. The dealership later identified an area of missing glass as a possible “point of impact,” although I witnessed the event and there was no impact. I am submitting this complaint because I am concerned that the rear glass may have failed spontaneously and could represent a safety issue. Unexpected glass shattering could potentially occur while a vehicle is being driven and could startle a driver, expose occupants to broken glass, or impair visibility. I am also aware that Acura has previously issued technical service information regarding rear windshield glass on certain RDX vehicles shattering without external impact. I understand that my vehicle is an MDX and may not be covered by the same issue, but I believe the circumstances warrant documentation and review for a possible pattern.

2025 Acura MDX Katy, TX

STRUCTURE:BODY

The vehicle developed repeated front‑end structural and steering problems shortly after purchase. During normal driving, it produced loud popping, creaking, and clunking noises when turning, entering driveways, or driving over small inclines. Steering felt inconsistent and the front suspension felt unstable. These symptoms created a serious risk of loss of control. A dealer confirmed the problem multiple times and replaced several major components, including the left front strut, the left front lower control arm, and the front shock absorber fork. The most serious finding was cracked welds in the front subframe, requiring the entire subframe to be replaced. A cracked subframe weld is a structural failure that can affect steering stability and crashworthiness. The issues were reproduced and documented by the dealer on multiple visits. The manufacturer’s engineering team was involved due to the severity and difficulty of diagnosis. Despite repeated repairs and extended time out of service, the same steering and suspension symptoms continued, and the vehicle was returned multiple times with ongoing issues. There were no warning lights or messages before the failures. The defects occurred during low‑speed maneuvering and normal driving conditions. The vehicle did not perform like a safe, structurally sound new vehicle, and the repeated structural and steering failures pose a safety risk to occupants and others on the road.

I have a 2012 MDX and it burns an extreme amount of oil. We took our MDX back to the dealership where we purchased it and had the oil issue fixed. Or so we thought. The problem was supposed to be fixed 3 months ago but the car is still burning a lot of oil. We have to add oil every 2 weeks. We did not drive the car much after "getting the oil issue repaired" so we did not realize that the problem still exists. Acura should know how to repair this issue and there should be a recall for this excessive oil consumption. Acura is a luxury brand but they are not taking care of their customers. Also the paint is peeling off our MDX badly. We had a couple of paint touch up jobs but it just keeps getting worst. I am embarrassed driving this car with the continuing paint peeling off. We cannot keep shelling out money to get this vehicle repainted. There should be a recall for the paint peeling also. I had a Honda and the Honda had a lot less issues and cost a lot less. We will not purchase another Acura unless Acura does right by their customers and put recalls out and fix the oil consumption and paint peeling issues.

The contact owns a 2023 Acura MDX. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds over a bumpy road surface or a pothole, there was an abnormal metallic sound coming from underneath the passenger’s side of the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where a technician informed the contact that the sound was common after 50,000 miles. The contact was later informed that the cause of the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but the assigned case manager failed to help. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

I discovered my back taillight is foggy and the lights are not seen. Capital City Honda provided an estimate: driver side taillight assembly replacement. Foggy taillight assembly affecting brightness and visibility. Cost $639.99 I then discovered there is a recall for moisture getting into the taillight causing this problem. Honda said my VIN is not included, but suggested I take it back to Capital City Honda to write a diagnosis, which I did and which is attached. Honda advised me today that since my VIN is not included, there is nothing they will do. I just spent about $3,000 for a tune up and new brakes so another $639 is just too much, especially since this is an issue caused by the manufacturer. I am trying to understand why my car isn't covered, when it has this issue. I've attached my email to Honda, the diagnosis and the recall.

OnXXX I was sold an “As is” vehicle under a Christmas special that was deemed unsafe to drive by a licensed mechanic a week later because of the rear subframe is bent from premature corrosion the dealer denied knowing anything about it but i submitted a case with FLHSMV because under the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (FDUTPA): For consumer sales, even in "as-is" transactions, sellers must disclose known material defects that substantially impact the vehicle’s value or safety but the claim was denied and ruled non-jurisdictional so im in the process of going civil. The total price the licensed mechanic gave me was 3,246 so ive been trying to mitigate this for months but i recently just seen a Major recall was just issued which is the NHTSA campaign #26V367000 which is the same exact problem my vehicle that was sold to me was & is currently experiencing but my state which is [XXX] was excluded from the Recall list because it isn’t classified as a Salt bath state but since im experiencing the same issue and i don’t live in one of those states im just making this formal complaint to see if i can get some help to mitigate this situation to get the recall extended to more states since its not just affecting the north united states its down south as well so if someone could please help me or get back to me to point me in the right direction to get this situation mitigated it’ll be greatly appreciated thank you and have a great day. MDX back sunroof drains cracked causing the car to flood. The water came into the back hatch and also damaged the amp to the speaker system. All of the Carpet had to be pulled out of the car. This car is only four years old. Luckily, I caught it because my whole back hatch was full of water, but this could’ve caused mold and serious health problems. I have found 100’s of reviews on many different online portals stating this is a common problem with a 22 to 25 MDX. I just bought this car a year and a half ago used and I have to now put another $5500 into it. I did buy the extended warranty, but they are saying this is not included in that. From what I’m seeing on Acura MDX group pages this is an extremely common problem that’s costing people a lot of money. There is no way apart should be breaking this easily in a car that’s four years old, especially a luxury car such as the MDX advance.

I am writing to report a severe manufacturing defect and safety hazard on my vehicle. The interior door panel trim has completely delaminated and peeled away from the door structure, creating an exposed, razor-sharp edge right near the door handle/window switches. This is a major safety hazard ("Safety Hazard") that poses a severe laceration risk ("Severe Laceration Risk") to any passenger or child attempting to open the door or touch the door panel. I have clear photo documentation of this sharp metal/plastic piece protruding dangerously out. I would like to request Acura Client Relations to look into this manufacturing defect immediately and provide a resolution/goodwill repair before a severe injury occurs. Please contact me via email to review the photos. Thank you.

The paint on the roof between the sunroof and front windshield is peeling. I took it to local dealership and was told paint is covered under Acura's Rust Perforation Limited warranty which is 5 years from the of original purchase. I do not have an extended warranty so I would need to pay out of pocket. I believe the classification of this issue under the "Rust Perforation Limited Warranty" is incorrect. The issue is not corrosion originating from the inside out. This is a premature failure of the paint adhesion to the primer, which is a manufacturing defect. This is a known, widespread issue affecting Acura's White Diamond Pearl paint, which is the subject of a pending class action lawsuit (Case 2:24-cv-09728) alleging these paint defects exist in 2013-present models.

Iam having numerous problems with the start stop function of my 2022 MDX. See attached letter and documentation for full details. I also attached the documentation from my dealership for the repair order history. There have been numerous of times that this problem occurred that I didn't bring it in for service. The dealership acknowledges that there is a problem, but they are unable to correct. They also have told me that they know of this problem with the Acura MDX, but there is still no recall.

NHTSA complaint #11734615 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2016 Acura MDX San Diego, CA

STRUCTURE:BODY

The factory‑applied exterior paint on the roof panel of my 2016 Acura MDX has experienced clear‑coat and base‑coat delamination, resulting in complete separation of paint layers and exposure of bare metal. This is not a cosmetic blemish or paint discoloration. The failure involves loss of adhesion between factory coating layers, causing large sections of paint to peel away unexpectedly. The exposed metal surface is at risk of corrosion, which may compromise the long‑term structural integrity of the vehicle’s roof panel. In addition, peeling paint has detached in rigid fragments that could become roadway debris, creating a hazard to other motorists if detachment occurs while driving. This condition matches a known manufacturing defect previously acknowledged by the manufacturer in a technical service bulletin addressing paint delamination on similarly built vehicles. However, the manufacturer has declined to correct the defect based solely on VIN exclusion, despite identical failure characteristics. The defect raises concerns beyond appearance, including corrosion risk, loss of protective coating, and potential safety hazards from detached exterior material.

This car is consistently garaged. It was pulled out one morning and a large sheet of paint peeled off roof while it was sitting in the driveway. This is a major concern as I don't feel comfortable driving the car for fear more will come off, affecting another driver on the highway. I've had to borrow a car until it can be fixed. Spoke to ACURA and this is a KNOWN issue for this color paint but they will not stand by their product. We have received no information from ACURA regarding this issue as they claim.

Two issues: 1. The paint on my rooftop in front of the sunroof began peeling off three months ago. I’ve read and MANY owners of the same model within a two year timeframe have had the exact same issue and we realized it’s a manufacturer’s problem. The manufacturer however, is saying it’s out of warranty and that’s absurd because now we all have to pay $2000+ to have our entire roof repainted. I have read that some people have had it repainted and it’s peeling again. That is a major problem. Acura needs to remedy this quickly before they lose customers. And I really love my Acura and I would love to buy another one in the future, but I’m counting on this one lasting a very long time! Won’t last that long, however, if the paint peels off continuously. I’ve included below in the attachments the preliminary repair cost of this that I had quoted when I first discovered the issue in October. 2. My battery kept draining two years ago, even though I got a new battery – – twice within the same month – – and the dealership in Birmingham, King Acura, was very thorough and very kind and generous, and the only thing that they could figure out after I had read numerous reviews from consumers online and suggested it to them was that the Bluetooth was draining my battery. They told me I could replace it for $3500 or have them disconnect it permanently. I chose to have them disconnected permanently because I didn’t want to pay $3500 for a Bluetooth system that was working but caused a random side effect that affected my whole car. Can you please help me with these issues as I am a big fan of Acura and I would like to see Honda make good on this. Thank you.

My 2022 Acura MDX A-Spec developed an electrical problem where I heard an extremely loud pop come from the stereo system before it stopped working and then the infotainment screen stopped working as well. I took it to the dealer who determined that a water leak in the sunroof drain plug caused the interior of the vehicle to become saturated with water and cause corrosion to electrical bundles. By searching the internet, I found that this was a known manufacturer’s defect with this specific model that had been made known to the dealership and they did nothing about it. Having an electrical problem could have put us at risk had things stopped working at an inopportune time on the highway or caused a malfunction at a critical time while driving. I submitted a request to Acura for an extended warranty of this problem, but that request was denied. They said that there had been an extended warranty for this issue, but that it had expired somewhere between March 2025 (when my normal warranty expired) and October 2025 (when I took it to the dealership for an evaluation of this problem). Acura wouldn’t say when that was, but I was surprised that they were of no help. As I mentioned, this is a known manufacturer’s defect that should have been checked per my normal maintenance visits, but it was ignored until it became an actual problem. They certainly could have been more proactive and it would have saved us a lot of time and expense.

2011 Acura MDX Harrisburg, NC

The hazard warning switch on my 2011 Acura MDX Technology & Entertainment Package VIN [XXX] sticks. It is due to a manufacturing defect and not because of normal wear and tear. That is a safety concern because when it is pressed and sticks, such as when giving the right of way to an emergency vehicle, or in bad weather, it not possible to make it unstuck while driving, and requires a screwdriver to pry it back to unstuck position, and if that option is not available then the stuck hazard switch will drain the battery when the vehicle is shut down. Please refer to enclosed Acura ServiceNews Article B15070C. On 8/9/2025, for my service at Hendrick Acura, I requested this known safety issue be fixed. I demonstrated by pressing the hazard switch that got stuck and required a screwdriver to unstick it. But the dealer unreasonably wanted me to pay $99 diagnostic fee to troubleshoot an obvious issue and even when I showed them the Acura ServiceNews Article B15070C. So, I was forced to confirm the issue indirectly myself. On 8/11/2025, I ordered a replacement hazard switch part number 33510-STX-A02 from another Acura dealer Contemporary Cars, for $37.02, per enclosed, even though it was a waste of my money. I swapped out the hazard switch and as expected it still got stuck. I have enclosed two pictures of my DIY diagnostic. I then searched for replacement dashboard center panel online from the Acura dealers, but I am unable to find any available. I then contacted Acura Client Relations on 8/25/2025, and they opened a Case # [XXX]. Kevin from Acura Client Relations called and stated that B15070C does not apply to my VIN. But I disagree because B15070C states for 'Affected Vehicles' - "2010-13 MDX (All trim levels except base." Hence, I am contacting NHTSA to ask Acura to cover my VIN as a saftey recall, and either provide me a replacement center panel that does not have the same manufacturing defect, or ask Hendrick Acura to replace it free of cost. Thank you. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION A

I have attached all my service records from Honda/Acura and the dealership Motorworld which is located in Wilkes Barre, PA I had my first issue with the car in January 2024 with sensors malfunctioning. They we replaced a few times, repeated issue I had other issues that didn't replicate themself or show as an error code when I brought the car in. Issue accelerating or inability to accelerate on the highway in a middle lane w/ a tractor trailer on each side. One trying to merge into my lane. Noisy brakes, low breaks etc Fast forward to March 2025, my number one complaint about these sensor issues is they would malfunction on me one day when I was driving. And I was always assured by the dealership it was good, the car was good, I was good. Acura felt the same. Well in April my steering malfunctioned while driving, the steering wheel locked as I was breaking for a red light, and I drifted off the road. Turns out my steering rack needed to replaced. It was fixed on 4/4 then on [XXX] with my children in the car, it did the same thing. Now they tell me it is the EPS, electric power steering. This car spends more time on [XXX] and one day this is going to happen on the interstate and there will be fatalities. I have been screaming at Acura and the Motorworld for months. Acura will not respond to emails (which I have kept) and every time I call the case manager assigned to me is not available. The few times months ago I did speak to someone they tell me the same things the automated email I get once in while that say my case is under review. All dates of occurrence and repair are in the service records I attached. They still have my car today, 5/8/25 so I do not have those to attach.
