XXX at 300 miles on the bike, it broke down FSS failure/ engine overheating warning system came on the screen. Island Powersports repaired it and said it didn’t have enough coolant. At 568 miles or so on the bike, while traveling on sunrise hwy at 60 miles an hour, the bike began shaking, same warning light FSS failure, check engine light on. The bike lost power and I had to get from the middle lane to the shoulder of the highway. Another driver saw and stopped to see if I was ok. Got the bike to my house. Next day tried to start it. It did nothing completely dead. I called the dealer. He said no problem. Just get it here and we’ll fix it. Well that was a problem because first of all I almost got killed because the bike just died for no reason and two now I have to rent a truck and trailer to get it there 45 minutes from my house turns out it needed a new battery and starter at less than 600 miles on the bike. I reported the bike to the manufacturer BPR where they told me not to pick up the bike. They ended up doing absolutely nothing except cause more problems. In XXX driving on [XXX] at 45 miles an hour, the same thing happened, FSS failure, engine light on, limp home mode. Made it to the store where I tried to start it again and it was completely dead again had to rent a truck and trailer from Home Depot brought it to Island Powersports at 6:45 PM with my parents service was already closed, but the sales department was open the sales manager Tom told me to leave the key and just park it in front next day. I called to find out the status and was told by the service manager, Mr. Carr to pick up my bike that they are no longer working on it or going to do anything with it because of the verbal argument me and him had over the phone after BRP told me not to pick the vehicle up which got Mr. Carr very upset and he ended up calling me a faggot which was reported to the human rights division of New York State, and a case was created for that. ALL recalls and updates (including the NHTSA steering rebuild kit, and the fender kit) have been performed on this vehicle, yet it has a persistent issue. The vehicle stability system engages with zero warning and at any speed and road condition. This immediately restricts the RPM to 5200 maximum, or approximately 57mph on a flat, 54 on an incline, 60 on a downhill. I have nearly lost my life due to it kicking in: -on the onramp to the highway with 80mph traffic behind me and having to immediately dodge and weave to the shoulder -in a sloping turn and the sudden change in vehicle performance nearly threw me off the bike at 50mph This condition cannot be reset without specialized software and hardware that is cost prohibitive to purchase as a consumer. It has also kicked in -just driving home on a straightaway, at 45mph -after making a legal, slow u turn -in my neighborhood access road at 30mph There are no lemon laws for motorcycles in Florida. The dealership has changed every component of the electrical system possible and has performed extensive service. It has sat for nearly half a year collectively at the shop waiting on parts or for service to be performed, and this is the largest powersports dealer in my area. They are out of solutions, and I'm stuck with an unsafe, unpredictable machine that I refuse to curse someone else with. Attached is most recent service bill with detailed work.
NHTSA complaint #11551666 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2019 Can Am Ryker. The contact stated that while making sharp left turns at moderate speeds, the vehicle independently slow downed without warning. The contact stated that the handlebars and the rear tire would vibrate during the failure. Upon investigation, the contact linked the cause of the failure to a defective turn sensor. The contact had taken the vehicle to two dealers for inspection. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 2,200.
NHTSA complaint #11551342 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The Stability Control System engages on low speed left turns when it is not required. It does not engage on right turns at similar speed and sharpness of corner. Power is cut to the rear wheel and the right brake engages, causing a "wobble", unsteady, and jumping sensation. This creates unease and the sense of losing control. I've been told this is a common problem that the YAW sensor and sas system is faulting. please get this fixed as it is dangerous.
NHTSA complaint #11546444 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
During left-hand curves, even at slow controled speeds, the vehicle decreases engine power and the brakes begin to pulse. Eventually, the vehicles engine light illuminates, throws trouble codes for the VSS (VEHICLE STABILITY SYSTEM), and goes into "limp mode", which gives the vehicle a limited amout of power and speed, in order to be able to reach home or service center. Dealership techs were able to reproduce these symptoms on test rides. First attempt at repair was the changing of the YAW sensor. The second attempt of repair was a bearing and bushing replacement repair kit in the pitman arm housing of the steering system. The third attempt of repair was to reprogram the steering angle sensor. It is currently back at the dealership for the ongoing problem of power loss and braking during left hand curves. This is a hazard to the operator of the vehicle and motorists in the vicinity because the vehicle is changing speed and direction with no operator input. Research shows this to be a very common problem for owners of this vehicle, and very little knowledge of the cause or repair from the dealerships or the vehicles manufacturer. Something needs to be addressed with this issue. Quite possibly a component or system of components may need to be redesigned and recalled. A recall pertaining to a wiring harness on the front fenders of this three wheeled vehicle has been addressed and repaired. I would like for my vehicle to operate correctly, as it should with a proper and permanent solution. and hopefully this problem be eradicated from the community of owners of this vehicle.

steering & traction control issues. My ryker has issues turning right under acceleration , like merging onto highway. The bike want to traction control .?This has happened multiple times .
NHTSA complaint #11528437 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
On left hand turns only, even at lower speeds, the VSS system is kicking in, preventing safe control of the vehicle, was almost rear ended today when my vehicle refused to accelerate out of a left hand curve, speeding rating curve was 20mph, I was doing 10mph. This occurs frequently to varying degrees on a regular basis, always on left hand turns only. It's never happened on a right hand trun or curve.

When making a left hand turn, at any speed over 35mph, the rear of the bike wobbles, and the front tires, at least one if not both begin to automatically brake. I’ve looked into it, it appears to be related to a SAS/VSS issue with the suspension and stability having too much play. I’ve researched and found that so many people reported it to NHTSA that you have an article, 137209. They will not fix this issue under recall because they claim it’s not an issue being reported enough. I can’t afford to have this issue that came from factory fixed because they don’t want to fix their issue. This is a major concern, at highway speed on an overpass I experience this issue daily and I’m afraid it’s going to cause an accident, because when it occurs the bike automatically slows 10-15 mph without me hitting the brakes, and I am worried I’m going to get hit by someone because of a defect in their product.

i was told that my ryker was safe to drive in to have the recall work completed and then my vehichle quit working because of the damage to the vehichle. i dont understand why the burdan to have my vehichle repaired is on me. I was told that thier roadside assistance would only cover a small percentage of the cost to have the vehichle towed and i would owe $745 just to get my vehichle to the dealer. If there is a known risk for the vehichle part to malfunction and lose power and not be able to start, then how is this considered safe to drive 100+ miles to the nearest dealer? The vehichle should have been immediately hauled in at the manufacturers expense to have the work done instead of leaving me stranded now without a means of transortation to get to work.

Rear uncontrollable shaking, swaying on slow low 40mph gradual cornering. Caused VSS Limp mode fault. Codes C0063 and C006C. Almost lost control of the Ryker, Seems traction control or the yaw sensor is intermittently active when cornering. This time it went into limp mode.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:MOTORCYCLE HANDLEBAR SWITCH POD LEFT/RIGHT
The contact owns a 2020 Can-Am Ryker motorcycle. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering column fractured and the handlebars detached, causing the motorcycle to fail to shift gears. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

BRP's Vehicle Stability System (VSS) engages randomly on left turns, cutting engine power, applying braking, and temporary stalling around curves at normal driving speeds. This situation is a serious driving hazard as may suddenly jerk erratically, causing temporary loss of control of vehicile. This has happened on several occassions, and is a known problem to BRP. Ryker will lose power during a turn, causing vehicles behind to brake to avoid a collision, the bike will jerk and shake erratically, as brakes are being applied, then lunges forward when the VSS system disengages and normal power is restored. I almost got rear-ended by a large truck. This Ryker is NOT safe to drive. Has been taking to the dealer five times to try and fix the problem but so far it persists. Dealer clamis that Can-Am (BRP) has not been very helpful in resovling problem. This is a design or manufacturing flaw that needs to be fixed in the VSS system.

I bought the bike new and it is all stock, no addtl electrical additions. I was riding the bike had gone approx 35 miles the 1st & 2nd time and l was on a highway all of a sudden my bike lost power. It dropped speed from 65mph to under 40mph & my dash started to read VSS FAULT LIMP HOME..... I was almost hit multiple times by traffic coming up on me at higher speeds & bcz the bike has no emergency flashers l was almost struck. There were no service roads on HWY 380 East from Decatur, TX back to Denton, TX. So l was forced to ride on a hwy at 35-40mph w no hazards. I took it in to the dealership in Denton,TX at Freedom Powersports 2 days later the tech tells me it was maybe a brake fuse code. The bike was less than a year & less than 1500 miles on it. The 1st time it threw a VSS FAULT CODE l was on l-35 S heading to Dallas ,TX. l was about 20 miles out when the bike did the same thing it lost power as l was going about 65-67 mph. The bike was less than 3mo under 500 miles. The bike again quickly lost power & dropped speed fast down to 35mph & l saw the VSS LIMP HOME code come on my dash screen. I had to quickly change lanes & exit the interstate without being hit from behind bcz again l had no emergency flashers. I was told this time by Freedom Powersports of Lewisville,TX that it must have been a loose battery cable bcz the computer couldn't find any specific reason. It puts my life in grave danger & makes the bike un-reliable.
