NHTSA Safety Complaint — Ford Recall 25V695 / 25SA9 Rearview backup camera has stopped working, limiting rear visibility. Camera is still installed and available for inspection. I cannot clearly see behind my SUV when backing, increasing the risk of striking a person, vehicle, or object. Hardy Family Ford confirmed the defective camera. Repair was delayed because the recall part was unavailable. Ford Recall 25V695/25SA9 remains unrepaired; Hardy Family Ford canceled my recall appointment because the remedy part is unavailable, despite my reporting this camera failure in 2022. I have been waiting for years for an available part. Ford issued a safety recall involving a defective rearview camera but the remedy remains unavailable. I have already been waiting for years for repair of this camera problem. My recall repair appointment was canceled because the required part was unavailable. Ford has an available new genuine Ford camera that the dealership can obtain, but Ford will not authorize its use under the recall. The only option offered to me is to personally pay $818 and seek reimbursement later. Ford Customer Relations has declined to provide another solution. Ford Complaint Case # CXH-08931193-Y5Q3B6

My camera failed and I backed into a very pole causing over $5,000 worth of damage and time I didn’t have to have it fixed. I had this fixed at the dealership I purchased the vehicle from. My exhaust always had a nasty smell to it which I addressed when I received the customer satisfaction program 17N03 notice about it and I have had it addressed many times throughout the years when I go to the dealership (where I purchased the vehicle) for maintenance and repairs. My son will not ride in my vehicle because the smell gives him a headache and makes him feel nauseous. I purchased a carbon monoxide detector to test the levels myself after I recently saw a family passed away in the same vehicle I have due to that. I will be doing this soon! It’s frustrating I had to pay for repairs on my vehicle because my camera malfunction and I backed into a pole. To this day it is still malfunctioning so when the parts are in, I will have it repaired. My main concern is the carbon monoxide levels and health risks. My vehicle only has 67,000 miles on it, it shouldn’t have so many recalls and problems that cause major safety risks like it has.

Backup camera does not work properly. Sometimes it’s showing objects behind me backwards (safety concern) like it’s showing I’m on the opposite side of where I’m trying to park/back up and sometimes it doesn’t work at all (flickering screen/black/gives notification to contact dealer). I have taken it to our local dealer for an approved inspection that it does not work & was told there’s no fix for it yet. No warning sign that this was coming- I had to look up the recall myself.

The B pillar plastic trim pieces are detaching from the vehicle on both sides. If these plastic pieces become dislodged at high speeds on a highway if could potentially cause damage to another vehicle/ cause a crash. There is a recall for the 2017 Ford Explorers for the same problem (25S53) however Ford refuses to cover this in that recall.

Tried countless times to have a recall repaired at this facility, at my convenience. Set up an appointment to stay with car, when that time came, the service department didn't know who I was or what the recall was about. This was a RED flag for me, my Vin# brought this part to this place, looking for a more reliable dealership.

We have a onefit. Our seat cover will not cover part of the head rest and he is able to pick and scratch at the Styrofoam. Even caught him trying to eat it. This has happened on several occasions. We have had to stop using the seat.

My backup camera stoped working out of no where. They have a recall for it that was put out in october and it is now April. That is 6 months ago. I called ford for a update and they refuse to help me. They said they are only servicing mustangs right now. That’s ridiculous.

There is a recall out for Ford vehicles for the pillars outside of the windshield, mine flew off the windshield while driving in the interstate. I called ford trying to schedule an appointment because the same thing happened to my boyfriend’s grandma and she told me there was a recall. I was informed that my vin was not apart of the safety recall for whatever reason. The car is available for inspection upon request. I feel as if my car repair should be covered because it clearly is not a safe model of the 2015 ford explorer and the same thing is happening with other vehicles that are covered under the recall.

I was on the highway when the passenger side Exterior A-Pillar Applique Trim had detached from the SUV. There was a car behind me, not close at all, and the thing almost hit that car. No one got hurt but the driver and myself both were visibly upset. No police or emergency services were needed. As stated in my previous complaint, I have horrible anxiety issues. When that happened, I had an anxiety attack. I thought consumers were supposed to feel protected and safe in there vehicles. I am in the process of retaining legal counsel to address this safety defect and its impact that its had, twice now, on other drivers as well as myself. I am filing an official safety complaint regarding my 2015 Ford Explorer Sport 3.5L due to a dangerous and sudden power-steering failure that occurred while I was driving with my children in the vehicle. There were no warning lights, alerts, or symptoms leading up to the failure. The power steering went out instantly and without any indication that something was wrong. The moment it failed, the steering wheel locked up and became extremely difficult to turn, nearly causing multiple accidents. I had children in the car at the time, and this situation created an immediate and severe safety hazard for everyone in my vehicle and on the road. After this happened, I contacted (by phone) Ford directly. Without any inspection, hesitation, or further explanation, I was immediately told that the vehicle “needs a new steering rack and pinion.” The quoted repair cost exceeds $3,000, on a vehicle I am still paying $500 a month for. I have since discovered that there are thousands of other Ford Explorer owners reporting the exact same issue, with the same model years, same sudden failure, and the same required repair. This is clearly not an isolated incident. This pattern strongly indicates a widespread manufacturing or component defect that poses a significant risk of injury or death. I am deeply concerned that Ford has not issued a formal recall for a problem that can cause an immediate loss of steering control at highway speeds and in everyday driving conditions. The number of publicly documented complaints online demonstrates that this is a systemic and dangerous failure that should not be ignored. I am requesting that NHTSA fully investigate this issue and require Ford Motor Company to issue a recall for the defective steering rack/power steering system in the 2015 Ford Explorer Sport 3.5L ecoboost w/o park assist, as well as any related model years or trims using the same components. Vehicle is available for inspection.

When accelerating and braking, motor rocks forward and backwards. Rpms jump erratically when this happens and when sitting stationary at a light or stop sign. Which causes the entire vehicle to vibrate. Oddly enough, fuel injector cleaner seems to help with the vehicle shaking somewhat.

I have been having issues with my vehicle's backup camera for about 3-4 years. Initially, the backup camera rarely went black when I reversed so I was not very concerned Over the years, it has worsened that now every time I drive the camera goes black at least once when I drive my car. There has been no incident due to the camera issue; however, I have had some close calls due to the backup camera not working. The warning beep does work when the backup camera does not. A couple years ago I did inquire about a recall which there was none so instead I asked dealership for a quote on the cost of replacing the camera which was very expensive. I did not not replace it at the time due to the cost and do not foresee doing so in the future for that reason. I learned about the recent backup camera recall but it does not include my vehicle. Thank you for your time.

Backup camera not functioning properly (goes black in the middle of backing up and says “contact dealership”). I saw an article online that my car may have been affected by the backup camera recall. I brought my car to the dealership and they said my VIN was not affected but I have the problems listed. I contacted Ford and reported this with Customer Care Department (Case #: CXH-05669623-J5P1M4). They said that’s all I can do. I have small children all under the age of 5 and fear backing up in my driveway. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

For about the last 3 years, whenever the car is put into reverse, the rear backup camera is intermittently going blank. The camera eventually will display the image, but it can be several seconds before the camera view resumes. The Ford dealership wants to charge about $700 to replace the entire camera, but I don't think the camera is the issue given that so many recalls have been issued over the exact same issue. There have been multiple recalls issued by Ford for the same issue, but I can't find one on the 2015 Ford Explorer-Limited line.

1. Component/System Failure: The water pump on my 2016 Ford Explorer failed, causing a significant antifreeze leak. The component is available for inspection upon request. 2. Safety Risk: The failure creates a risk of engine seizure while driving. Loss of engine coolant can cause the engine to overheat suddenly, potentially leading to a dangerous situation on the road that could harm myself or other drivers. 3. Confirmation of Problem: The problem has been confirmed by the dealer service department during inspection. The water pump leak was observed and diagnosed by a certified Ford service technician. 4. Inspections: The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer. I have also documented prior repairs to the vehicle, including a timing chain replacement two years ago. The water pump issue has not yet been inspected by Ford corporate. 5. Warning Lamps/Symptoms: Prior to the failure, there were no warning lamps on the dashboard. I noticed coolant leaking from the water pump area, and the temperature gauge began to rise. The leak was first observed AUG 15

The backup camera only works intermittently. Sometimes there will be a black screen that says somethings wrong and to contact the dealer but this has been an issue for the past couple years or so. I saw there was a recall for many other for vehicles of this age for the backup camera but not for the Explorer. I was shocked when I didn’t see it was included.

Rear backup camera does not function. Either gives a blank image or a flipped/reversed image or a very grainy image. It has been properly inoperable for years, since at least 10/1/2022. Why were Explorers not included in recall 25V57200? The cameras were the same as the Edge and Expedition which were included, and I believe the same for the Mustang.
