The daytime running lights (DRLs) may not deactivate when the headlights are on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk: Daytime Running Lights that do not deactivate as intended may cause a glare, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with a 6.2 L V8 gas engine. Safety Risk: An engine failure could cause a sudden loss of power to the wheels and increase the risk of a crash. Issue: Over time, the transmission control valve could wear and lose pressure. If this happens, the transmission could shift harshly and could cause the rear wheels to lock up. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a diesel engine. Safety Risk: Rear wheels that lock suddenly could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the transmission control module software to detect excess wear in advance of a wheel lock up. I was involved in a rear-end collision at approximately 45 mph, where I struck another vehicle straight on from behind. The impact was severe enough to total my vehicle, yet no airbags deployed, and no forward collision warning or crash sensor systems activated. This is especially concerning because this vehicle was previously involved in a front-end collision (not my fault) and underwent extensive repairs. I was assured all systems were repaired and functioning properly. Additionally, my vehicle had completed recall work related to safety systems prior to this crash. This is the second front-end crash involving this vehicle where airbags failed to deploy. Given the speed and severity of the impact, airbags should have deployed. The failure of these systems placed my life at serious risk. The vehicle has since been totaled and taken by insurance, but I am requesting that this failure be formally investigated as a potential safety defect in the airbag and sensor systems. I am extremely concerned that the vehicle’s safety systems were either defective or not properly restored following repairs and recalls.

I was read ended at a stop light. The other drive fell asleep. She was in a 3.25 ton dodge ram going 45-55 mph. She never touched her brakes. She pushed me into the car in front of me. Air bags never deployed . My car is totaled. The driver’s car hit so hard the front of her car was in my third row of seats. I was taken to the hospital for chest pains since the seatbelt was the only thing that saved me .

ENGINE

I am filing this complaint regarding repeated catastrophic engine failures in my 2021 GMC Yukon Denali equipped with the 6.2L L87 V8. I purchased this vehicle as a GM Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. At approximately 7,000 miles, the engine developed a knocking noise and was determined to require complete replacement. I brought the vehicle to the dealership on May 19, 2025, and it remained there until September 17, 2025—nearly four months—while the replacement engine was obtained and installed. Since receiving the replacement engine, I have driven approximately 6,000 miles. On August 4, 2026, I was informed by the dealership that the replacement engine has also failed and requires another complete engine replacement. This means my vehicle has now experienced two major engine failures at extremely low mileage, including failure of the replacement engine. I understand that the 6.2L L87 engine has been subject to a GM recall involving potential engine failure and loss of propulsion. I have now learned that NHTSA has escalated its investigation into continued failures involving these engines, including failures occurring after the recall remedy. My experience appears directly relevant to that investigation. I regularly transport my children in this vehicle and am extremely concerned about the possibility of an engine failure occurring while traveling at highway speeds or with my family in the vehicle. I feel fortunate that the previous failures did not occur under those circumstances. I have contacted GM and requested that they repurchase or replace my vehicle. GM denied my request and has refused to provide me with a reason for the denial. I am asking NHTSA to document my complaint and investigate whether the existing recall remedy is adequately addressing the underlying safety defect, particularly given that my replacement engine failed after only approximately 6,000 miles.I can provide repair orders, recall documentation, mileage records, and correspondence with GMC

ENGINE

I am writing to report my 2021 GMC Yukon Denali. This vehicle recently suffered a catastrophic failure of its 6.2L V8 engine while traveling on the freeway with my family inside, creating a severe and terrifying safety hazard. This failure occurred after my vehicle was supposedly remedied under GM’s official safety recall for the known L87 engine defect (Recall N252494001). As the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) recently escalated Engineering Analysis reflects, the recall inspection and 0W-40 oil remedy are failing to prevent these engines from destroying themselves. My experience is direct evidence of this continued safety defect. GM has since now fully replaced my engine however only reimbursed me 30% of what it cost to tow to their dealership. As I was driving, the vehicle's air conditioning suddenly began blowing warm/hot air. Moments later, the check engine light and all electronic service stability lights illuminated on the dashboard. Because we were traveling at highway speeds and vehicle speed management was becoming an issue, I immediately exited the highway and stopped in a parking area. I placed the vehicle in park, at which point the engine began idling extremely rough. I could feel the vehicle shaking while sitting in the driver's seat. I exited the vehicle to open the hood, but before I was able to do so, I noticed gray smoke coming from the exhaust. We located a GMC dealership approximately two miles away. Because of the vehicle's condition, we drove there slowly on the frontage road at approximately 15 mph and dropped the vehicle off for diagnostic inspection. Engine overheated and performed an emergency shutdown while driving through Atlanta on my way to vacation with my family. We lost propulsion and had to cross 5 lanes of traffic to find a shoulder to pull over to. The engine shut down and we were left stranded 500 miles from home with our 3 children in a boiling car. The vehicle was inspected and passed the recall test 6 weeks prior to this incident. After the first failure we attempted to extend our power train warranty to which we were told it had too many miles by GM. The GM dealership and service center where the vehicle was towed confirmed the engine needed to be replaced and GM confirmed it falls under their extended warranty. However, GM refuses to cover any additional expenses incurred from their engine failure.
