I purchased this 2017 Honda CRV Touring edition in February 2026. A couple months after that, I was driving slowly (but slightly faster than usual) in the large parking lot of a local grocery story. The grocery store has movable speed bumps placed in the parking lot. As I was approaching one of the speed bumps, the car suddenly slammed on the brakes. To the best of my recollection, I do not believe I was given a warning first. When this happened, I of course felt a jolt. I was worried that I had hit something, but I concluded that I had not hit something and that jolt had just been an automatic braking incident caused by the speed bump up ahead. I was not previously aware that the car had an automatic braking feature. Later, I tried to recreate the incident by again approaching the speedbump from the same direction and at a similar speed, but I was not able to recreate it. I have now owned the car for about six months, and this is the only incident I am aware of in which the automatic emergency braking was used. (The various brake warnings -- the dashboard light and the beep -- have functioned acceptably.) I am concerned that this issue could lead to a crash, especially if it occurs in heavy traffic or while I am traveling at freeway speeds. If the car is going to be spooked by a speedbump, what else could cause it to be spooked?

I have a 2017 Honda crv which has intermittent bucking type issues, if I accelerate during that time the check engine light will turn on and the car will stop, sometimes when I turn the car on it will shake a bit like it struggled to turn on, in these cases most warning lights will turn on but the car will drive. Battery has been checked and it giving good output, what else could it be. Every warning ligh turns on and the car does not let me go faster than 25mph. This happens 2x on a highway and this time while home in my drive way.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Since approximately mid-2024, my 2017 Honda CR-V has intermittently displayed a cascading series of dashboard warning lights, including TPMS, ABS, VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist), EPS (Electric Power Steering), Brake System, Hill Start Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System, and Road Departure Mitigation. When active, these lights fully disable Honda Sensing driver-assist features. The pattern is consistent and recurring: warning lights remain active for approximately 3-4 days, then self-clear for 1-2 days, before recurring again. This cycle has repeated for over 18 months. A windshield replacement with camera recalibration temporarily resolved the issue for approximately one week before it returned. On 07/02/2026, I brought the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership (Honda of Short Pump, Richmond, VA) specifically to diagnose this warning light cascade, and paid a $195 diagnostic fee. The technician's documented complaint states the lights are intermittent and 'stay on about 3-4 days.' Despite this being the stated complaint, the dealership's diagnostic report identified only two unrelated fault codes — P05A0 (Active Grille Shutter malfunction) and P0172 (Fuel System Too Rich) — and did not identify, report, or provide any code specific to the TPMS, ABS, VSA, EPS, or ADAS/camera systems actually affected. When asked, the service advisor verbally attributed the light cascade to the shutter and injector faults, but could not provide supporting diagnostic data. This explanation does not align with the reported timeline, as the TPMS/warning light cascade began approximately one year before the shutter fault (P05A0) reportedly occurred as a single, non-recurring event. I am concerned that a genuine intermittent fault affecting multiple safety-critical systems (ABS, VSA, EPS, braking, and collision avoidance) simultaneously has gone undiagnosed for over 18 months, and that this may represent a broader pattern affecting other 2017-2018 CR-V

I experienced an dangerous incident yesterday while driving my 2017 Honda CRV at highway speed in Minneapolis, MN area. The Collision Mitigation Braking System activated suddenly and without warning. An extremely abrupt/harsh employment of the braking system was experienced without any warning. The unexpected and extremely sudden activation of the braking system caused myself and the car’s contents to be thrown forward into the front of the vehicle, and causing me to nearly loose control of the vehicle. It felt like this 'safety' system took control of the vehicle for an eternity, but likely was no more than a few seconds before power returned to the accelerator and I was safely able to navigate to the far right lane. The onset and braking was so abrupt and extreme, that I could have been easily rear-ended if someone was directly behind me. There was nothing immediately in front of me that should have caused this system to activate. I had no idea at the time as to what was going on, thinking my car was having some sort of mechanical issues. I drove home on ‘pins and needles’ hoping I would make it to Baxter, Mn where I live. I later learned that this was likely the CMBS, as other consumers had described exactly what I experienced. Even though I now intend to disable the system, I am now extremely apprehensive to drive the vehicle for fear this will activate unexpectedly again, causing an abrupt and dangerous (potentially life-threatening) while in traffic. This is a shame as I’ve really enjoyed the CRV, but now feel like it is a ‘deathtrap’ and have lost all confidence in driving it for fear of my safety. I brought this to the attention of the dealership in Burnsville, MN where the car was purchased (Walser). I was told they’d make a note of it, but that I needed to call HONDA directly with any reports. I informed them that I would be filing a report with NHSTB. I have not had the vehicle evaluated, but can make available for inspection if helpful.
NHTSA complaint #11747974 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
There doesn't have to be a vehicle or obstacle in front of the vehicle and the brake system will automatically apply. This is extremely dangerous as vehicles behind the CRV have no warning the brakes are being instantly applied on the highway and/or street roads. Practically slams on the brakes.

LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING
On May 25th, 2026 multiple dashboard warning lights flashed simultaneously while I was driving indicating an immediate engine issue, all warning alerts showed up. Next day, the engine exhibited a structural shudder/shake. The vehicle has otherwise always been perfectly maintained and operated flawlessly, thus, I called the dealership/ they gave me an appointment for the next day, after their inspection, they said that they need to replace the head gasket, timing chain set, and fuel injectors simultaneously; i learnt the imminent safety hazard i was exposed to! Operating a vehicle with an active internal fluid leak and compromised cylinder sealing creates an unpredictable driving hazard, putting occupants at risk of being stranded or rear-ended due to sudden engine failure. This proves that this is a systemic thermal defect affecting the structural integrity of the 1.5L turbo powertrain. The dealership stated the vehicle requires a top-end engine rebuild, specifically: a head gasket, spark plugs, fuel injectors, and a timing chain set. This is unacceptable given that my car is only 58.8K miles. I purchased the car brand new and always take good care, this issue is putting tens of thousands of dollars at financial risk! Now, on top of that, they want me to pay around $ 6,000 thousand dollars for a well-documented 1.5L engineering defect. This will destroy my trust in the brand and guarantee I will never buy a Honda again. This should be a safety recall, and why must I pay for their manufacture's issue? Is not fair.

Car has been running fine and maintenance is up to date . Got up one day to leave for work and when I went to accelerate I started hearing a grinding clatter type noise ( only when accelerating at about 3k-5k rpm ) and once the car got up to needed speed it goes away . No engine light codes ( but having intermittent connection issues with obd port but never been damaged or anything) but it does it sometimes consistently and sometimes it will have a few moments under same acceleration condition or higher rpms but its never consistent. When these occur the car feels like power loss in the acceleration and a slight dragging in the drivability but again not always present. Been to exaust shop and they found nothing from.their initial inspection. Its hard to trigger the affects since it happens randomly/intermittently. Very unsave and there are no reasons or explanations to these events

My 2017 CRV Touring was working fine. I had a fender bender accident and they replaced the Collision Mitigation Braking System with a new Honda part. After the repair and I have the car in cruise control, it will suddenly brake and decelerate when there is nothing in front of me. This is very dangerous when you're going 65 mph on a highway. It is at the Honda Short Pump dealership. They have had it for 4 working days and can't find the problem. I know there was a class action lawsuit and Honda won, but surely this is a very serious problem they should fix.

I have experienced instances of the brakes being aggressively applied unexpectedly when no other vehicles or stationary objects are nearby to trigger the collision avoidance system. Any car following immediately behind would have rear-ended me. This has occurred a few times in the last 12 months. No warning lights are present prior to, or when this occurs. I have not had the vehicle inspected by anyone given the intermittent nature of this issue.

Engine light came on loss of power. I had to have it towed back home. A independent shop investigated the situation found coolant in the cylinder head. They found out it was a bad head gasket, which led to engine failure when going to replace the head gasket part of the cylinder wall peace was missing. I had to replace the whole engine.

I was driving across a major intersection when the car slammed on the brakes for no reason. There were no shadows. I was not under a bridge. It is an overcast day. No direct sun. My safety was at risk because I could have been hit by oncoming traffic when I was trying to go forward.

Random problems since purchase with screen going out and emergency brake light either flashing for no reason and braking for no reason. In 2023 the brake system completely failed while driving. Honda dealer replaced fuel pump which helped for awhile. Now flashing brake warning for no reason is happening again. Fear the car will either start braking again for no reason or another system failure might occur. Afraid to drive the car.

I have had all warning lights go on disabled some options, gave me incorrect speed, (i ended up w a speeding ticket over that) made my vehicle go in limp mode ,didn't want to accelerate on highway, could have caused an accident I have a young child and was scared to even drive it. It turned out to be my fuel injectors which was very pricey and I had honda do the repair. I have seen a whole lot of people with this issue with the engine I have which is the 1.5 turbo. I think it should be addressed by honda and they should really be fixing the issue at no cost especially since they know the original injectors were faulty and they changed the part number. Hope it gets addressed on behalf of hundreds of thousands of these vehicles and not so happy honda customers.

I have had my crv suddenly brake on me on multiple occasions when absolutely no one is around to cause it. It’s created many of close calls and given me mild whip lash in the past. But yesterday it happened in a way much worse than ever bc I was on the interstate and it abruptly stopped (again no one in front of me or to the side) which jolted me and gave me some brutal whiplash and then it was locked up & wouldn’t go faster than 20mph!! I was in the left lane & I almost got hit by multiple people behind me & almost died! I had to drive like this for 3-5 minute (hazards on of course) until I could ‘safely’ pull over. Once i turned it off and turned it back on, it went back to accelerating normally. I have taken my car to the Honda dealership for every oil change I’ve gotten & this issue has never come up on their full vehicle inspection. I cannot emphasize enough how close I came to dying bc of this. I really hope a resolution or recall happens sooner than later bc I’m now learning there’s 1000’s of people online saying they’ve had similar experiences. It should not take years to address this when there are so many lives at stake. Please help. Sincerely, terrified to drive my car now (& that’s not good considering I drive for work)
