2017 Honda Cr-V problems

ENGINE

The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended, and the vehicle decelerated. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was driven to a nearby parking lot. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a head gasket failure. The contact was informed that the head gasket needed to be removed and replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The contact stated that the failure was a known failure. AIR BAGS

My air bag light has come on. The vehicle has never been in an accident. There is no damage to the air bag. The shop stated it’s the passenger side curtain airbag The other issue is the a/c. There was a recall it got fixed but my a/c is still not working.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated and the messages "Parking Brake Failure", "Transmission Failure”, and "ABS Failure" were displayed with an audible alarm. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the failure might be associated with the battery. The contact replaced the battery; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the repair was not covered under warranty. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to apply for goodwill assistance. The contact provided an application form to the dealer and was informed that the form would be completed and submitted to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

SERVICE BRAKES

The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving 45 MPH, the brake message was displayed, causing the brakes to engage independently. An independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The inspection report notes "Rust Holes forming above rear trailing arms, non reparable area, will not pass future state inspection, recommend customer contact Honda of America @ 1-800-999-1009". They also provided a picture of the problem. I took the car to another garage and was informed that YES, this was a real issue and that the garage owner just spoke with someone who had a 2018 CRV with the same problem. The Honda dealership sent me a Recommendation Letter that stated "***Rear trailing arms (soon), *** State Inspection.

My wife’s 2017 Honda cr-v lost power while on the highway. Which could’ve been a safety issue had she not known what to do. We limped it to Honda dealership. They say it was a blown head gasket. The blown head gasket caused the turbo to fail. This is a known issue on the 2017-2022 Honda 1.5 turbocharged engine. Top all that off we already replaced the turbo 4 months prior to the head gasket going out. So that’s two turbos and a head gasket in a 2017 vehicle that has 150,000 mile on it. I attempted goodwill with Honda which was denied.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

I purchased this 2017 Honda CRV Touring edition in February 2026. A couple months after that, I was driving slowly (but slightly faster than usual) in the large parking lot of a local grocery story. The grocery store has movable speed bumps placed in the parking lot. As I was approaching one of the speed bumps, the car suddenly slammed on the brakes. To the best of my recollection, I do not believe I was given a warning first. When this happened, I of course felt a jolt. I was worried that I had hit something, but I concluded that I had not hit something and that jolt had just been an automatic braking incident caused by the speed bump up ahead. I was not previously aware that the car had an automatic braking feature. Later, I tried to recreate the incident by again approaching the speedbump from the same direction and at a similar speed, but I was not able to recreate it. I have now owned the car for about six months, and this is the only incident I am aware of in which the automatic emergency braking was used. (The various brake warnings -- the dashboard light and the beep -- have functioned acceptably.) I am concerned that this issue could lead to a crash, especially if it occurs in heavy traffic or while I am traveling at freeway speeds. If the car is going to be spooked by a speedbump, what else could cause it to be spooked?

ENGINE

I brought my 2017 Honda CRV (1.5L turbo engine) with approximately 83,000 miles into my independent mechanic on 6/12/26 to fix a crank oil seal after discovered at recent oil change by them and prior in April when I brought vehicle into Honda to replace extended warranty on A/C compressor shaft seal. When they started vehicle before repair white smoke filled the shop. Mechanic said it was head gasket. Brought to Honda, they diagnosed and agreed. There were no warning lights or issues leading up to this. My vehicle had inspection first week of April by same mechanic and I had also brought vehicle into Honda soon after to replace extended warranty on A/C compressor shaft seal. Honda completed head gasket and crank oil seal repair on 6/22/26 for a total cost of $6278.93

The dealer replaced the fuel injectors and provided some additional service. I understand that Honda has issued some "campaigns" and some vehicles have been granted extended warranties, etc. but I was told that this vehicle is not eligible. I would like to try to obtain reimbursement for the repairs since it appears to be related to a documented manufacturer's defect. I also understand that there has been a recall under this issue in Canada.
