I've been told that my car is unsafe to drive and unable to pass inspection because the rear subframe is corroded at the suspension mounting points which might cause the rear suspension to fail.

There is a massive hood flutter when large vehicle drive towards me going above 50mph. It feels and looks like the hood is not latched correctly and going to open into my windshield. This has happened since I purchase the vehicle new in 2021

I was driving home from vacation when my engine splash plate came loose from my car on the interstate. The splash plate fell down and dragged on highway creating friction under my car. The metal had fallen down and was chipping away creating dangerous debris to my car and other cars on the highway. Roadside service was no help, per usual. I was traveling alone. The splash plate had to be removed entirely to prevent a fire and more damage to my car. I couldn’t remove the splash plate on the side of the interstate. I drove 30-40 mph to get help to prevent further damage or loss of property and my life.

2010 Honda Insight Durham, PA

STRUCTURE:BODY

When the vehicle was recently brought in for annual PA state inspection, I was informed by the inspector that there was so much corrosion where the rear trailing arms attach to the subframe that the rear wheel on either side could suddenly collapse leading to a sudden and unpredictable loss of vehicle control. I then brought it to an authorized Honda dealership for their inspection. They produced a short video confirming that the car was unsafe to drive. Still shots from their inspection video are included with this complaint. I then consulted with a well-regarded body shop who confirmed that the car was unsafe to drive and that it probably could not be repaired. I believe that the 2010 Honda Insight rear subframe is very similar to the 2010 Honda CR V rear subframe which was recently recalled for exactly the same issue: Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-228

2022 Honda Insight Westampton, NJ

On 2/16/23 I was driving on the highway when I heard a loud pop/bang like an explosion or loud crash on the top of my car. There were barely any cars around, no trucks spewing debris, I wasn’t going under an overpass, and I didn’t see anything fly up from the road. I had a passenger in the car who was looking out the windows at the road and didn’t see anything either. I opened the covering for the moon roof to see if something was stuck to the roof and my moon roof had exploded for no reason. Shattered glass fell into my car. My safety and the safety of others was at risk because I was in shock by what happened and it startled me while I was driving. Also, my car is not drive-able until this is fixed and it is through no fault of my own (or anyone else’s beyond the manufacturer). I took the car to a collision center to have the damage assessed for my insurance company. It is isolated to the moon roof, nothing else was damaged. It will be looked at by the dealership on Monday 2/20/23. There were no warning lights or other symptoms of failure prior to the explosion. The moon roof wasn’t cracked or chipped, not compromised in any way. The car is brand new, I bought it new in June 2022.

THERE IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE WITH THE PAINT USED BY HONDA. OUR OTHER CAR - A TOYOTA - WHICH IS 3 YEARS OLDER AND SAME COLOR KEPT IN SAME CONDITIONS IS LOOKING JUST FINE - HOWEVER THE PAINT ON OUR HONDA'S ROOF AND HOOD HAS DISINTEGRATED. IT LOOKS AWFUL. WHEN PICKING UP MY CAR AFTER A TIRE ROTATION AT COSTCO - A GENTLEMAN RECOMMENDED I CONTACT HONDA. I DID. THEY BASICALLY SAID - OH WELL, TOO BAD. WE'LL MAKE A NOTE OF IT IN CASE SOMETHING COMES UP.

WINDOW DOOR MOLDINGS MADE AOUT OF RUBBER ARE BRITLE AND DESINTEGRATING MAKING THE WINDOW LOOSE THEREFORE MAKING THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE NOISY. APPARENTLY THE QUALITY OF THIS RUBBER ARE VERY CHEAP IT DOES NOT LAST MORE THAN THREE YEARS. BY THE WAY IT CUT ONE OF MY FINGERS WHEN I WAS CLEANING THE WINDOW. I TOLD A HONDA DEALER SERVICE ADVISOR ABOUT THIS, AND SHE KINDLY TOLD ME THAT SHE DOESNT KNOW WHY ALL HONDAS DO THESE.....WELL, 'IT'S BECAUSE HONDA IS USING CHEAP MATERIALS," I TOLD HER. IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME SITUATION AS ME, PLEASE FILE A COMPLAINT.

2012 Honda Insight at 16,121 miles Portland, OR Crash

STRUCTURE:BODY

I WAS DRIVING IN A LINE OF SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC ON A TWO LINE LANE MAIN STREET KEEPING A CONSTANT SPEED OF 22 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR LURCHED FORWARD ACCELERATING RAPIDLY MAKING A HIGH PITCHED SCREAMING SOUND. AS THE CAR GAINED SPEED I SWERVED INTO THE OTHER LANE TO AVOID CRASHING INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MEANWHILE I STOMPED ON THE FOOT BRAKES, PULLED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND SHIFTED INTO PARK TRYING TO STOP THE CAR. BARELY MISSING A HEAD ON COLLUSION, THE CAR JUMPED OVER THE SIDEWALK, TOOK DOWN A STEEL SIGN, SCRAPED OVER CONCRETE BARRIERS AS IT CONTINUED NOW AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. IT STOPPED ONLY AFTER I CRASHED IT INTO THE FRONT WINDOW OF A CAFE. I'M CONCERNED THAT THIS HYBRID HAS A SERIOUS DEFECT CAUSING IT TO SUDDENLY ACCELERATE.

NHTSA complaint #10724827 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.

2010 Honda Insight Alameda, CA

STRUCTURE

MOULDING SEAL AROUND REAR TRIANGLE (NON-OPENING) WINDOWS DETACHED ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR CREATING AN UNSEALED WINDOW AND CAUSING RUBBER 'STRIPS' TO FLAP WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OVER 35MPH. SOON AFTER, THE ENTIRE RUBBER SEAL ON PASSENGER SIDE DOOR DETACHED ALLOWING MOISTURE AND OTHER ELEMENTS TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT MOULDING IS NOT COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURERS NOR EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WAS PURCHASED AND THAT REPAIRS WOULD COST A MINIMUM OF $800. I CALLED HONDA AMERICA TO FILE A COMPLAINT AND WAS TOLD THEY DO NOT MAINTAIN A DATABASE OF DEFECTS. I HAVE OWNED HONDAS IN THE PAST AND HAVE NEVER FOUND THEM TO BE SO SHODDILY CONSTRUCTED. I OWN A 1968 VEHICLE THAT STILL HAS ALL MOULDING IN TACT. UNACCEPTABLE.

2011 Honda Insight NEW Cumberland, PA

I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS SAFETY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE BAR THAT RUNS PARALLEL ON THE REAR WINDOW OF THE VEHICLE. MOST DRIVERS FEEL IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD, CAUSE IT DISTORTS THEIR VIEW. THE BAR MAKES THE REAR WINDOW VIEWING AREA SMALL, WHICH MAKES IT UNCOMFORTABLE FOR OLDER DRIVERS.
