2026 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Edina, MN Crash

SERVICE BRAKES

Twice within 3 days the car drove when was in electronic park. FIRST August 1 2026 instance got in car parked in a lot. Started it (foot on brake, push start). Spent ≈ 15 min checking iPad. When car in front of me backed out of parking space, car dinged, lit up that car in front is leaving like it we were at a stop sign. Then started to move forward. I quickly braked. I may have touched the brake while sitting but never touched the shift. • SECOND instance August 3 2026 driving (MY Mode) with Smart Cruise and Lane Assist. Parked in daughter’s driveway. Foot on brake. Absolutely pushed Electronic P for park. It was my intention to leave car on for AC while dropping a bag on their porch. I did touch brake again while gathering things to get out - but did not touch shift. While I was turned sideways it drove forward into the garage door. No the foot was not on accelerator. It was on floor as I was leaning over. For reference, a few weeks ago the front camera’s sudden stop recall was done.

While i was driving 65 MPH on the highway with several car length ahead of me I gently tried slowing down and the car jammed on the brakes forcefully causing my husband and I to be jolted forward and seatbelts locked. Thankfully, the person behind me did not hit me. This is a recall that was supposedly fixed by Hyundai dealer on 7/6/2026 a front view camera update however this incident happened on July 17, 2026. I brought to Circle Hyundai ,Shrewsbury on July 27 and they said codes are fine and could not replicate the issue.

SERVICE BRAKES

My vehicle is subject to the Hyundai Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) safety recall (NHTSA Campaign 26V316 / Hyundai Recall 302). The front camera software logic is overly sensitive, creating an imminent danger of unexpected, severe, and sudden automatic braking at high speeds. This manufacturing defect poses a catastrophic safety hazard to myself, my family, and other motorists on the highway. I consider the vehicle completely unroadworthy and unsafe to drive. Despite the severe risk to human life, Hyundai Motor Finance is refusing to allow a fee-waived early lease termination, attempting to financially penalize me for refusing to drive an inherently dangerous vehicle that they manufactured. I am filing this complaint to document the severe hazard of the defect and Hyundai's failure to provide a safe, penalty-free resolution for a life-threatening vehicle glitch

On XXX, in Wildwood Florida, our Hyundai Tuscan was traveling approximately 25-30 mph southbound on [XXX], when a truck stopped short directly in front of us. The driver hit the brakes to slow the vehicle down. However, the car immediately came to an abrupt stop thrusting the driver and passenger forward, so much so that the passenger hit her head on the windshield as her body was violently thrown against the dashboard. Fearing a concussion the passenger thought a visit to the local Wildwood ER was necessary. Additionally the ER deemed it necessary that the passenger go to a specialized Trauma Emergency Delartment in Ocala, Florida. Consequently the passenger incurred several bills totaling approximately $20,000. Due to the incident occurring with in a car, medical insurance denied payment. It should be noted that this same type of incident happened a second time as well. Please note, the local Hyundai dealership manager was notified of both occurrences, and he was unfazed and made no comment in regards to this complaint. 2024 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid New Hudson, MI Crash

SERVICE BRAKES

While driving my 2024 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid at approximately 20-25 mph approaching a red light, a sudden and total loss of brake power-assist occurred. Upon applying the brakes, the pedal became instantly rigid and rock-hard. Despite pumping the pedal multiple times and applying heavy manual foot pressure, the vehicle failed to stop, resulting in a low-speed rear-end collision with a stationary car stopped at the traffic light. No dashboard warning lights or malfunction indicators illuminated during or immediately following the event. After the collision, the vehicle's ignition was turned off and then restarted. Following this power cycle, normal braking functionality temporarily returned. The low-speed impact displaced an ultrasonic sensor in the front bumper. This intermittent electronic brake failure poses a catastrophic safety hazard to pedestrians and occupants if it recurs at higher speeds

SERVICE BRAKES

My 2025 Tucson hybrid violently stopped in mid traffic while leaving the intersection once the signal turned green to proceed. I accelerated getting to speed limit then it abruptly stopped, violently throwing contents from back seat to the forward cabin. Both, myself the driver and my passenger were jolted violently. The school bus behind me had to stop quickly as we were just getting up to speed from a stop light. The vehicle is brand new, 2024 miles on it. Tucson Nline Hybrid with all the safety features turned on. I called the dealer and service rep which both instructed to turn off the FCS Forward Collision System setting. I did but this shouldn't be happening and will cause bodily harm/damage, and possible death is a specific situation. This abrupt stop was jarring to both people in the car.

All warning lights and audible alarms started going off at the same time. EPS, ABS, Auto Hold, Collision warning, Air bags, All wheel drive, brake system, and more.1st time it happened was [XXX], while driving. The car was drivable but I did notice a difference in braking and acceleration. I parked and turned off the car. I did turn the car back on several times and the alarms continued. I finally turned it off for 10 min, and all alarms stopped, but the check engine light stayed on. Car sat overnight and all warnings had stopped. Took it in for service, and issue could not be duplicated. 2nd time it happened was [XXX]. I had to have the car towed since it would not move when in drive or reverse. Alarms were still going off when it made it to service. They replaced the brake harness. 3rd time happened on [XXX], 3 days after the brake harness was replaced. Towed it to service and they replaced the engine harness. 4th time was on [XXX], 2 weeks after engine harness was replaced. This time there were no audible alarms, just all of the visual ones. Same performance issues as stated before. This issue seems to have happened to several other Hyundai owners as well, as per complaints in Reddit and on Hyundai forums. There does not seem to be a consensus for what is actually causing this issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

1. Sometimes vehicle does not start. Only starts if battery reset button pushed. 2. Sometimes vehicle while moving has delayed braking after juddering. Only stops when car stopped and restarted. 3. Sometimes vehicle while moving suddenly revs, RPMs spike until car stopped and restarted. Engine revs but does not shoot forward. 4. Spookiest of all, while moving car suddenly stops accelerating. Pedal on the floor and it is coasting to a stop. When car stopped, and turned off, then it will work. Had we been on the interstate we would have died, These incidents were sporadic and occurred on and off during the month of April and May. Each of the above occurred numerous times to different drivers. Service at two locations were unable to ID. We sold the moving death trap to one of the Hyundai dealers who could find no mechanical problems with the vehicle. The vehicle was terrifying to drive. There are other reports on this vehicle of these issues ... which appear to be electronic. Hyundai has good engineers. They know what is causing this and simply do not want to replace a very expensive but obviously failing electronic control module.

The blind spot warning went off and locked all the brakes up. We were not able to move the vehicle and could not even pull off the road out of traffic. There is no way to disable the brakes when the computer or sensors are malfunctioning. We had to get the vehicle towed.

1 forward collision unexpectedly slammed on the brakes when I was trying to go forward to make a left turn. There was no one in front of me nor each side of me. I had 2x4’s in my car that were thrusted forward damaging my dashboard and display. I was told to take it to the dealership on Monday 2 I was fine just hooked up, but the driver was pissed off at me thinking I was stopping short on him 3 randomly the rear sensor would go off telling me they are too close when I’m at a complete stop. It has randomly stopped short on me but I thought it might have just been an over sensitive sensor. I have previously owned an Ioniq 5 and the sensor would never stop going off even if I was 2 car lengths away. 4 the car is going back to the dealership on Monday so it has not been expected yet 5 exactly 6 days after purchasing the car the airbag indicator showed up on my dashboard while I was driving. I was used to the Ioniq 5 sensors always going on when I was stopped waiting for a green light that I just thought it was the same way. It had abruptly stopped on me three other times between the 6th and today the 21st. I have only had it for 3 weeks. I have never gotten any warnings before the car just slams the breaks on. After looking online about this issue I decided to make a report before I take it to the dealership so you have it on file. I am very disappointed with this vehicle and was so excited when I bought it. I have been a loyal customer of Hyundai since 2017 when I bought my first Ioniq and I have purchased 6 other cars for my family members since then. I still purchased the Tucson after having to take a 15,000 loss because the Ioniq 5 never held its value. Now I’m wondering if I should switch manufacturers

On 2 separate occasions, the forward collision warning system activated. On both occasions I was under control of the vehicle with my foot on the brake approaching a vehicle that had slowed while entering into a round about...I was approximately 10 feet from the car in front going about 6 mph. All of a sudden several warning indicators activated (audible and visual) and then out of nowhere, all four wheels locked and my car came to a skidding/juddering stop. I immediately looked in rear view mirror fearing I was going to get rear-ended. The vehicle in front proceeded to move on and I tried to get myself together and get moving. I was shocked that this had happened as it was totally unnecessary. I was completely in control of the vehicle prior to the activation.

I wasn’t even allowed to select all the issues I’ve had with this vehicle since day of purchase three years ago June, and upon picking up the car I have had issues. My leather seats have bubbled up. My car will not merge. It will suddenly accelerate my car drops down in the middle of the road. My moonroof opens on its own. My car windows were randomly roll down on its own. My car breaks itself. My car emergency brake won’t unhook my car. Every single light is now on it. They have attempted to fix numerous times and my life has been put in jeopardy and my child’s life numerous times. No one can fix this issue. I am now told her I will have to wait three weeks for a rental because everyone’s backed up in diagnosing these cars. This car is going to kill me in my child and is a safety hazard. It does this stuff with lights on and without and it’s random and no warning my EV warning has come on my brake system. Warning has come on my car has been unable to stop and coasted and suddenly was able to then stop.

This relates to an Intermittent Braking Anomaly that started occurring within 1 year of this Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Ltd. purchased "New" in Aug. 2022. The 1st Service Invoices (Jun23 & Dec23) only reflected "Customer Requests Complimentary Maintenance Plan Tire Rotation," but did not reflect the braking anomaly; eventhough the braking anomaly was discussed with the Service Advisor at those times. There have been at least 7 Service Appointments that this braking anomaly was identified by the vehicle Owners to the Service Advisor. This has been, and is, an intermittent anomaly/problem that occurs most often when slowing down to stop, and especially when going downhill. There is a very noticeable "Shaking/Shuddering/Pulsating" recognized by the Driver, and when present, Passenger(s) also. On average, this occurs 1x/week , and inconsistent. One time it started pulling left towards oncoming traffic. Another time it was violent shaking, and almost unable to stop at stop sign. The Dealership 1st attempted to repair this by refacing front rotors in 2024. This did not fix the anomaly. In Dec 2024, returned to the Dealership, and a Tech. was able to duplicate the braking anomaly. With that, they then replaced both Front Rotors (51712-L1100 Disk) and Brake Pads (58101-P0A011 Pad Kit) in Jan. 2025. The braking anomaly continued later that very same day the Front Rotors and Brake Pads were replaced! Returned to the Dealership the next day and discussed this braking anomaly with the Service Mgr., and He and the Service Advisor drove it for about 15 minutes but were not able to duplicate the intermittent braking anomaly. Both Service Mgr. and Sales Mgr. suggested to buy new vehicle. Returned to Dealership in Feb. 2025 for about 2 weeks for them to again evaluate. They were unable to duplicate the braking issue after several test drives and multiple individuals driving. This anomaly continues and neither Hyundai Corp. nor Dealership will do anything else to solve this anomaly.

The 2025 Hyundai Tucson's Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system does not operate properly due to either a design flaw or a flawed implementation of the design. Hyundai's integration of Forward Attention Warning (FAW) with the ACC prohibits the driver from using ACC while wearing sunglasses. If one is driving the vehicle with ACC engaged and puts on sunglasses, the FAW flashes a warning on the dashboard and disengages the ACC. In order to engage cruise control the driver must interact with the onboard video display system to switch from ACC to "dumb cruise". Obviously the driver's attention is distracted while manipulating the selection of cruise control. The driver is also forced to compromise driving safety because they are forced to choose between wearing sunglasses and being able to use ACC. Use of ACC enhances safety especially when driving into the sun or in low visibility situations. The incompatibility of ACC with sunglasses wear then compromises safety. To make matters worse the FAW options screen provides erroneous information. It indicates that the driver can turn off FAW, but turning it off does not in fact turn it off. Turning it off stops the FAW warnings only until the driver turns on and engages ACC at which time ACC apparently forces FAW back on and active. I took the problem to my local Hyundai dealer who confirmed the problem and indicated they could not repair the problem. Since I am considering a Georgia Lemon Law claim, I asked whether I needed to bring the car back since the lemon law gives the dealer/manufacturer 3 tries to fix the problem. The dealer indicated that would be a waste of time because Hyundai will not support/allow the issue to be corrected. The dealer indicated this is a known issue. An Internet search also confirms that Hyundai's FAW + ACC integration is flawed. Additionally it is not clear whether other enhanced vehicle safety systems such as automatic emergency braking are compromised by the wearing of sunglasses?

A week ago, I was driving my 2022 Tucson Hybrid Limited on the highway on my way to work around 7:50 a.m. It was a bright day, good weather. I was in the center lane when my car suddenly braked HARD and came to a stop on the highway! My foot was still on the gas pedal, but the Automatic Emergency Braking light was on. I panicked because I had no control over what the car was doing. Thankfully, I was not rear-ended and didn't cause an accident. I put on my hazard lights, shifted into park on the highway's center lane, then back into drive and it seemed fine. There was not really any traffic in front of me that I remember, but there were some cars on either side and behind me that had to swerve around me. I don't trust this car anymore. It is going to get me or someone else killed. I took it to the dealer 2 days ago and the initial inspection didn't show any problems or error codes. They told me I could have it back since there didn't seem to be a problem or they could give me a loaner car and keep testing my car. I have a loaner. I hope they find something wrong with the car, otherwise, I am afraid of my car getting me or someone else killed. I am especially scared after reading about all the others here who have had this same issue.
