ICCU failure. I charged overnight at my home L2 charging as usual. I backed out of my garage and heard a loud pop. Almost immediately an “check electrical” warning came up. The car went to turtle mode and then completely died. The car was towed and I was informed the ICCU needed to be replaced. The car had all previous checks on ICCU performed (per mailed recalls) and was updated and passed each time.

While driving southbound on the [XXX] in a rented 2023 Kia EV6 from The Hertz Corporation, picked up in [XXX] on XXX, the vehicle entered "Power Limited" mode without warning. The vehicle lost normal propulsion and decelerated from highway speed to a crawl, forcing 4-5 emergency stops onto the highway shoulder over several miles while semi-trucks passed at 70+ mph in live traffic, with two minor children in the vehicle. The vehicle was ultimately abandoned at a highway rest stop on Hertz Roadside Assistance's instruction and towed. This vehicle was subject to three NHTSA recall campaigns for the ICCU defect that produces exactly this failure mode: 24V057000 (SC295, driveshaft, notice mailed XXX), 24V200000 (SC302, ICCU 12V charging failure/Power Limited mode, notice mailed XXX), and 24V867000 (SC327, expanded ICCU remedy superseding SC302, notice mailed XXX) — all mailed well before this vehicle was rented to me on XXX. Under 49 U.S.C. §30120(i), a rental company may not rent a covered rental vehicle subject to an unremedied safety recall. I am requesting NHTSA use its inspection authority under 49 U.S.C. §30166 to determine whether Hertz completed the required SC327 remedy on this vehicle before renting it to me, and to review Hertz's fleet-wide recall compliance for its Kia EV6 inventory. This does not appear to be an isolated incident: NHTSA complaint ODI XXX, filed XXX, describes a near-identical failure — a rented 2023 Kia EV6 (Dollar Rent A Car, a Hertz-owned brand) losing power and shutting down multiple times on the freeway during a single trip, also towed. Two renters, two Hertz-family rentals, same defect signature, five months apart. Hertz has been on written and verbal notice of this incident since XXX, and I sent a formal written demand on XXX with a response deadline of XXX. As of this filing, Hertz has not responded. I own a 2025 Kia EV6 Wind RWD. At approximately 14,655 miles, the vehicle experienced a confirmed Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failure that resulted in loss of 12-volt charging and reduced motive power. On August 1, 2026, while reversing the vehicle, I heard a loud pop from underneath the rear seating area. Immediately afterward, the red 12-volt battery warning light illuminated and the vehicle displayed a “Check Electrical Vehicle System” message. Because I was concerned that the vehicle was no longer charging the 12-volt battery, I externally charged the 12-volt battery with a smart charger and then measured the battery voltage with a multimeter. With the vehicle off, the battery measured 12.99 volts. After starting the vehicle and confirming it was in READY mode, the voltage measured only 12.35 volts, indicating that the vehicle was not maintaining the 12-volt electrical system. When I drove the vehicle to Hilltop Kia on August 3, 2026, the vehicle had substantially reduced propulsion and would not exceed approximately 45 mph. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and documented DTC P1A961C, “LDC Internal Power Supply,” and DTC P1A9096, “LDC Input Voltage Sensor.” The dealer’s Kia diagnostic system showed LDC input voltage of only 1.7 volts, compared with a stated typical value of approximately 565.5 volts. The dealer replaced the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), part number 36400-1XF06, and the high-voltage ICCU fuse, part number 375F2-GI040, under warranty. The cooling system was bled, diagnostic trouble codes were cleared, and the vehicle was road tested and returned to me on August 6, 2026. I purchased the vehicle new on November 28, 2025. My vehicle is a 2025 model year EV6 and is outside the earlier 2022-2024 EV6 ICCU recall population. I am filing this complaint because the ICCU failure caused the vehicle to stop charging the 12-volt electrical system and resulted in significantly reduced motive power. I began to drive. The dashboard display read "Check low voltage supply" or something like that and on the opposite side of the display there was a small image that looks like a 12V battery. A moment later the dashboard display changed to read "DO NOT DRIVE." The car was towed to a dealer who reported a "failed ICCU and High Voltage Fuse." The vehicle was towed to a dealership where it is being repaired under warranty. The same parts were replaced on December 26, 2024, that time because the electric vehicle would no longer accept a charge from a 240VAC source, although it continued accept a charge from a high voltage DC source. At that time there was also a software update that was said to correct the defect.

The door closed sensor fails intermittently. This causes the car to sound an alarm while driving, prevents locking of the doors, and results in automated sudden braking at low speeds, such as in heavy stop & go traffic, causing a significant crash hazard. When it engages in the emergency braking routine, it shifts out of gear, so you can’t prevent a rear collision by simply accelerating, you must rapidly shift the car into gear, first.

Vehicle Safety Complaint My Kia experienced an ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) failure and was at the dealership for approximately two months while awaiting repairs. The ICCU and related components were replaced, and I was told the vehicle had been repaired. However, immediately after I received the vehicle back, the “Check Electric Vehicle System” warning illuminated again. Since that time, the vehicle has continued to experience serious electrical issues. The vehicle has unexpectedly shut off while stopped at red lights and has failed to restart on multiple occasions, leaving me stranded. This creates a significant safety hazard because the vehicle can lose the ability to move while in traffic, placing me and other motorists at risk. I have returned the vehicle to the dealership twice since the ICCU replacement, but the problem has not been resolved. The dealership has been unable to identify or permanently repair the defect. I have been without my vehicle for nearly three months this calendar year due to this issue. More importantly, I no longer feel safe driving the vehicle because I cannot trust that it will remain operational in traffic. I am submitting this complaint because I believe this represents a serious safety defect involving the vehicle’s electrical system and propulsion system. I request that NHTSA investigate this issue to determine whether other Kia owners are experiencing similar failures and whether additional action is warranted to protect consumers.

Car was totally dead even with a 68% charge. AAA came out to jump start. The next day while driving on the highway the car started to lose power. A red warning to check the electrical system came on along with "turtle mode". I was able to pull over off the highway, grateful the two small children were not with me. Car was towed to dealer who kept it for the three days. Only after repeated calling could I reach someone who said they couldn't reproduce the problem. I'm afraid to drive the car at this point as I feel it's just unsafe to do so. This seems to be an ongoing issue that Kia can't seem to fix.

On 6/6/2026 while driving on city streets, the display screen suddenly displayed a large and flashing red warning message "Stop vehicle and check power supply" in addition to the battery symbol. We took the vehicle to the dealership and they diagnosed that the ICCU had failed and needed to be replaced.

1. Severe Safety Concerns (Battery Thermal Risk & Component Interdependency) The PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) heater in my vehicle has failed. This component failure has completely disabled my vehicle’s air conditioning (AC) system. In the Kia EV6 architecture, the AC compressor loop is not merely a cabin comfort feature; it is intrinsically linked to the vehicle's thermal management system responsible for cooling the high-voltage traction battery pack. California temperatures are projected to hit 110°F immediately. Without a functioning AC system, the vehicle cannot execute critical battery cooling procedures. Yesterday, when plugging the vehicle into a charger, the high-voltage battery became alarmingly hot. Forcing a lithium-ion battery pack to accept high-current DC fast charging without operational coolant loop heat rejection poses an immediate, catastrophic risk of thermal runaway and vehicle fire. I am terrified to operate, park, or charge this vehicle in upcoming extreme summer conditions. 2. Predatory Maintenance Plan Tie-In Offer Yesterday, the dealership called and acknowledged the issue. They offered to cover 70% of the diagnostic and repair labor costs under corporate goodwill, as I am technically out of the standard warranty period. However, they applied an unfair and coercive condition: I am only eligible for this safety assistance if I purchase a mandatory 2-year maintenance contract costing $120 per month (totaling $2,880 over 24 months). Because the EV6 is a fully electric vehicle, its routine maintenance profile is virtually nonexistent. The dealership explicitly stated that this contract would exclusively cover tire rotations. Charging nearly $3,000 for tire rotations as a gatekeeping mechanism to fix a dangerous battery cooling defect is highly exploitative. The cost of this forced maintenance plan essentially equals or exceeds paying for the entire repair out-of-pocket, rendering the "70% goodwill coverage" an empty gesture.

The contact owns a 2022 Kia EV6. The contact stated that while driving approximately 6-7 MPH in the left-turn lane, the vehicle made an abnormal popping sound and stalled. The vehicle was pushed to the side of the road with assistance. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failure. The ICCU was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred several times. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, the messages "Check ABS", "Check ESC", "Check Electronic Parking Brake" and "Pull Over Safely" were displayed, and alarms sounded on several occasions. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted several times, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

On the night of [XXX], the vehicle was plugged in to AC charge at my home charging at 7.5kw (32 amps/240 volts). The next morning, the dedicated breaker to the EVSE was tripped, and the EVSE was damaged and unusable upon resetting the breaker. The car had charged approximately 20% before cutting off. A new EVSE was ordered and arrived by that night, however the car would not accept a charge, and displayed a "charging failure" message, despite the new EVSE working on two other electric vehicles. Additionally, the vehicle to load (V2L) functionality was compromised, and the vehicle displayed an error message when attempting to use the V2L. The vehicle was taken into Kia service center located in Mission, KS on 6/29, and diagnosed with a broken ICCU, which is scheduled for service on 7/1/2026. ICCU electrical system failed while driving (~1mi from house). Warning messages popped up and caused me to pull over and drive back to house under reduced speed. Kia told me car was not safe to drive and to tow car for repair under warranty. ICCU failure was confirmed by service provider and repaired after 2 weeks (diagnosis, part order, and replacement).

Vehicle ICCU unit failed resulting in inability to charge at level 1/2 on AC power and would have ultimately led to failure of the 12v battery, which results in the car shutting down. Posing a safety risk. Resulting repair led to coolant level issue. Currently the only solution to the problem is replacement of the unit, with the exact same unit model. Leaving the possibility of it happening again. The manufacturer has not developed a long term solution to the problem, which is common and affects a large percentage of the vehicles. Previous software update recall did not correct the issue.

First ICCU the power completely went out on 2/23/26. Power went out again April, 2026. Currently car is immobile and unreliable and not safe for driving due to power failures. Towed car to Kia Cerritos. Car supposedly "fixed" (with other issues I've reported to KIA of America & CA BAR/DMV) Currently 12V battery is not holding charge as of 4/27/26, 4/28/26, and 5/2/26. I received a letter from KIA stating ICCU and inability to charge, Keep this Letter in your Glove Box for a free diagnosis and possible no cost servicing. As an older American this is inherently unsafe, as I travel for work and cannot be stuck on the road. The vehicle suddenly loses power in traffic. It simply stops running. This is my 5th attempt to file this very complaint between April and 6/14/26.

While charging at a L3 station, charging was interrupted with a pop (which turned out to be ablown fuse). Two warning lights appeared on the dashboard (battery and vehicle with exclamation points) as well as message to "Check electrical vehicle system". Kia Connect told me to exit the vehicle and that it would need to be towed to the dealer. Dealer Service Office confirmed it was not safe to be in the vehicle nor to drive it. Car had only 2311 miles at the time! From the dealer invoice the KDS was inoperative at the time. Fault codes: P1A961C LDS Internal Power Supply out of Range and P1A9096 LDC Input Voltage Sensor Component Internal Failure Confirmed 12V battery no charging in ready on. Live data does not match given good values. LDC input voltage ~2V, LDC Output voltage 11.4C Dealer replaced ICCU and ICCU HV Fuse. Filled and bled cooling system. Verified vehicle charges on L2 charger. (Note I had been charging on an L3; this has not been verified.) I was told the ICCU ASSY had a new part number and was coming from a different factory. This part had a cost of nearly $5000 but was covered under warranty. HV fuse also replaced under warranty.

My car was in my garage and charging with my home's level-2 charger on June 1 2026 in standard fashion. At 2am the charging was interrupted by the car (per charger log) and stopped at 68% charge (set to fully charge to 100%). Subsequently the car could not charge any more, and I tested this with two independent level-2 charging units. Both of these chargers are confirmed operational with another electric car in my garage. I took the car to Kia Service on June 4 and they confirmed it was a failed ICCU.
