I own a Ram pickup that has experienced a failure of the ABS brake module. The replacement ABS module is not available from the manufacturer, and I have now been waiting approximately three years for the necessary replacement part. I have contacted Ram dealerships regarding this problem and have repeatedly been told that the ABS module is on backorder and/or unavailable. Despite waiting for approximately three years, there is still no reasonable timeframe for obtaining the part and repairing my vehicle. This is not an ordinary convenience item. The ABS module is a critical safety component of the vehicle’s braking system. When the module fails, important safety systems can be disabled, including anti-lock braking and traction/stability control. Depending on the failure, other vehicle functions can also be affected. I am extremely concerned that Stellantis/Ram has allowed owners to remain without a manufacturer-supported repair for years because the replacement part is unavailable. An owner should not be forced to wait three years for a safety-critical braking component. I have also found numerous complaints from other Ram owners reporting similar ABS-module failures and extended or indefinite parts shortages. This indicates that the problem may be widespread rather than an isolated parts-supply issue. I am asking NHTSA to investigate: * The failure rate of this ABS module. * Whether the ABS module has a known defect or premature failure condition. * Why replacement modules have been unavailable for such an extended period. * Whether Stellantis/Ram has an adequate plan to repair affected vehicles. * Whether a safety recall, special service campaign, extended warranty, or other remedy is warranted. * Whether affected owners should be provided replacement modules at no cost. I believe it is unreasonable and unsafe for a manufacturer to leave owners without access to a replacement for a critical braking-system component for approximately three years.

A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced. I had my ABS Light and Brake light come on in August 2023. My cruise control and my brake controller would no longer work. Took it to a dealer for repairs and they diagnosed it as needing a ABS Contol Modular. It has been on back order since that time. I was first told 3 mo, then 6 mo. Etc. I visited the dealership last week and they told me the part will no longer be manufactured. I have a low mileage vehicle that is worthless to trade in or sell because of this brake issue. There was a previous recall for my vehicle July 21, 2015 R36 15V•459. The recall was handled at the dealership to fix the recall. But now I'm experiencing the exact symptoms of Recall R36. Steering Wheel: •Ghost right blinker - When engaged, all lights are on and in working condition and blink at a normal rate on the outside of the vehicle. •No menu navigation •No cruise control •Can't control radio •Can't control phone calls •No working horn •Active airbag light Symptoms are constant all angles of the steering wheel. There is no noise coming from the steering column. Airbag light is on all the time. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety is put at risk for having a failed horn, I cannot alert others. And with the airbag light on, either the airbag can spontaneously deploy causing an accident or if I'm in an accident, they won't deploy at all. If I can't access my menu, I'm unable to see any vehicle notifications or alerts for my engine, transmission, and safety systems, including Perform Service reminders, tire pressure warnings, oil life percentage, low oil pressure and potential emissions or electrical issues. No, it has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center yet. No, it has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. Anti-Lock Brake Module Internal Failure, error code C2200--49. This ABS failure also takes out the following safety features, anti-lock braking, traction control, trailer towing brake controller, and cruise control. As a result I do not have these safety features, and I tow a 10,000 lb rated trailer that required that the OEM factory brake controller works. A new module is $1200 plus, however there are NONE to be found. It has been on National Back Order for several years, and affects many year models. Failure at first was intermittent and worked during cold weather, but once up to 70 degrees or above it failed consistently, then finally failed permanently. l Intermittent Failure was real risk when towing, as you could not depend on system working in case of emergency.

I purchased This truck new in 2014 and have had very few problems with it, but now the ABS module is defective which affects the brakes, traction control, cruise, with all lights on. In driving the vehicle under wet roads it has gone out of control and is dangerous. Ram has told me that the parts are back ordered and recently gave me incorrect information as to the extent of this parts problem. I paid over 50k for this vehicle to keep in my older years and I do not want to have to change now . This is a real problem that could get someone hurt or killed. The ABS, Traction Control, Trailer Breaking lights are on also impacting Adaptive Cruise Control making them all inoperable, even though the truck is still able to be drive, albeit unsafely. I took it to my local repair shop and was told the ABS Controle Module, part number 68228991AD was identified as bad and in need of replacing at approximately $2000 and that the part is on indefinite backorder. I tried to locate the part on my own and there is in fact a nationwide backorder. After further investigation, I found multiple owners on Ram forums either having or have had the same problems. On one parts website, I found this message regarding the part: PART ON HOLD UNTIL ENGINEERING REVIEW IS COMPLETE, EXP - MAR 20TH, 2025. Located at: [XXX] This is not just an issue with 2014 Ram trucks, but extends to other model years using the same part number. This is a huge safety issue that should be addressed through a recall and the NHTSB has the power to right this wrong. The vehicle has a fault in the ABS system that is causing the ABS light to stay on, as well as the traction control light and the Brake light. This means the brakes will lock up, causing the vehicle to slide, the vehicle has no assisted traction control, and the cruise control will not engage. In a vehicle like this (a pick-up truck) the back end is notoriously light and will easily loose traction during emergency braking and without traction control, can easily lose control on wet roads. The part needed to repair this issue, the ABS Module, is unavailable anywhere...and has been for years now. Some can still be found in old junk vehicles, or for sale out of used vehicles, but these have no guarantee and are no safer or less susceptible to failure than the stock product. No to mention they can only be found at exorbitant prices since they are in such high demand on an obviously sub-par part. Why does this part have so many issues and why is it impossible to fix? The vehicle is unsafe without this fix! The tires absolutely slide on wet roads now with loss of steering control and the rear end easily breaks free of traction on wet roads! The vehicle also will not pass inspection anymore because of this issue. This has been a problem for a year at this point.,

Driving on the interstate without cruise control on at 70 mph. I had a vehicle passing in the fast lane and a vehicle in front of me slowing down so I applied a little pressure to my brake peddle and my truck automatically began to accelerate on its own. I kept pushing on the brake peddle and it was stuck in a acceleration. The brakes tried slowing it down but it would not stop acceleration once I took my foot of the brake peddle it just rapidly began to pick up speed on its own again! I ended up pushing down on the break peddle long enough to turn off the engine and coast off to the side on the interstate. I was so glad it happened while I was driving it and not my wife she could of wrecked into the back of the vehicle in front of us and caused a multiple car crash! The Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) light came on while I was pushing down on the brakes to try stopping the truck, but once I turned the engine off and back on again the (ETC) did not come back on although the brake lights stayed on for about 10 miles.

EPS system quit working and no power steering. Code С2217-00. It is available to be inspected. Currently being looked at by Tempe Ram service center in Az. This has been going on for over two years. I have a life time warranty through Chrysler as long as I own the truck. I have also had my truck lock up once, when a person made a right turn into my lane in front of me, forcing me to hit the breaks. Stellantis/Ram for over 10 months now have claim that the ABS Module is under engineering review to me. The ABS Module controls the brake anti skid, sway control, cruise control and other systems. Since 3/2024 I've tried to replace this module but it's not in stock because of not being produced. It's a manufactured control item only. I was informed by Gator Dodge this has been a problem for almost a year now if not longer. Called Stellantis/Ram and was informed to go to a junk yard to get a replacement with no product control. Tried to exchange it for a new truck but the dealer does not want it on it"s lot because of no anti skid and other functions this module controls. If it's not safe enough for Ram to sale how can it be a safe vehicle on public road ways? To answer any questions, yes the truck has been inspect by Gator Ram and a certified independent mechanic. As a retired Airline Captain if this was a plane the FAA would have grounded it until the problems were address.

All wheelspeed sensors are operational per scantool in live data mode. Issue not confermed by dealer or independant as the cost is outrageous. And i cannot find a recall to repair issue. The specific part number is 68228991AD. The failed component, the ABS module, should be available for inspection upon request. Question #2- The failure of the ABS module has compromised the functionality of the ABS system, which is crucial for maintaining stability and control on slippery roads, especially in hazardous conditions. This puts the safety of the driver, passengers, and others on the road at risk, particularly in situations where ABS is necessary to prevent accidents. Question #3- Yes, the problem has been confirmed by a mechanic, and the necessary repairs have been identified. The mechanic determined that the issue lies with the ABS module. Question #4- The vehicle and the ABS component have been inspected by a mechanic, revealing that the issue lies with the ABS module. However, neither the police nor insurance representatives have inspected the vehicle in relation to this matter. No accident has happened but I have had the Anti-lock brake module go bad in my truck and it has disabled cruise control, anti-lock brakes and traction control. So basically just old fashion standard braking is all that is working. Took it to the dealership and they told me the part is on hold by Ram for review by their engineers. So I called Ram directly and they said it is under review but they could expedite the part for me. I see there is a law suit pending for the 2017-2018 Ram 2500 and 2017-2018 Ram 3500 but not any other years. After doing some further research online and using an ODB reader I see that this is actually a very common issue even with my year and model. Even at the dealership when I started to explain the issue, they stopped my and told me exactly what it was and that they have seen it many times. I believe because of the number of issues being registered online and in dealerships that this should be a safety recall, especially because we are talking about braking. I will attach photos.

This whole vehicle has several recalls, looking at what the recalls stated, those are all safety issues that could occur at any moment. The engine has failed in said vehicle. The issues at hand have been confirmed by a registered mechanic. He was unable to locate any engine for this vehicle and it was taken to a dealership, in which they will not fix. Also, have been in touch with Stillantis, however, after giving them time to respond after the initial conversation, to find out they never took down our information. Another issue is they lied and said the dealership said it was fine. The problem is that was a definite lie. They did not know where or what dealership. This vehicle was made and sold to be reliable but, it is not. There are recalls and there have been class action lawsuits but, no one is willing to help with something that was not to be sold in the first place.
