Recalls on the 2016 Chrysler 300

A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

United States — NHTSA

18E053000

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM)

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain Mopar Stage 1 Kit Performance Packages Powertrain Control Modules (PCM) Part Numbers P5160023, P5160025, and Demon Crate PCM Part Number 68412287AA. The PCMs are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.

Risk: If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

18V332000

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging.

POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 vehicles equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD). The front driveshaft bolts may loosen and allow the front driveshaft to disconnect, potentially causing a loss of motive power.

Risk: A loss of motive power can increase the risk of a crash.

Canada — Transport Canada

Canada runs its own recall programme, and its campaigns do not always mirror the American ones.

Recall 2018396 142 units in Canada

Accessories

Note: This recall affects the following Powertrain Control Modules (PCM) that were sold through dealers as high-performance accessories: - Mopar Stage 1 high performance Powertrain Control Modules (PCM), part numbers P5160023 and P5160025 (campaign U82) - Mopar high performance Powertrain Control Modules (PCM) included in the Demon Crate, part number 68412287AA (campaign U83) On certain vehicles, an electronic fault may create a situation where the cruise control cannot be deactivated. If this occurs and the driver does not apply the brakes or shift the transmission to neutral, the vehicle could maintain speed or accelerate without warning, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the PCM software and perform an update as necessary. Note: In the interim, owners are advised not to use the cruise control until the vehicle is repaired. This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act, as these aftermarket products were not regulated by the Act.

Engine

On certain vehicles, an electronic fault may create a situation where the cruise control cannot be deactivated. If this occurs and the driver does not apply the brakes or shift the transmission to neutral, the vehicle could maintain speed or accelerate without warning, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software and perform an update as necessary. Recall 2017081 5,206 units in Canada

Powertrain

On certain all-wheel drive vehicles, the front propshaft bolts may be loose. This could result in the front propshaft disconnecting from the vehicle, which would lead to loss of motive power while driving and could also damage powertrain and/or underbody components and create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace all eight front propshaft bolts.

SEATS

Passenger front heated seat for no apparent reason began smoldering and two small burn holes came through the seat cushion. Vehicle was parked at the time and the ignition was off, and the car was unoccupied. this incident was reported to Chrysler and the car was taken to a dealer for inspection. The inspector's report indicated that this was not caused by a manufactures defect and told me to contact my insurance company. I do not agree with these findings and think that this matter should be investigated further as a dangerous fire might occur.

STEERING

STEERING HAS FELT "STICKY" FOR ABOUT A WEEK. IT IS DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL, AND IT WOULD GET STUCK IN CERTAIN POSITIONS SO I PHYSICALLY COULDN'T TURN OR CHANGE DIRECTIONS. THE PROBLEM WASN'T TOO BAD AT FIRST, BUT THEN GOT EXTREMELY BAD AS OF 08/07/2019. STEERING WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE, AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD GET STUCK N ALMOST EVERY TURN, MAKING DRIVING ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE, AND VERY DANGEROUS. AS OF 08/09/2019, THE STEERING WHEEL IS ALMOST CONSTANTLY STUCK, AND REQUIRES EXTREME FORCE, OR SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES TO TURN OR CHANGE DIRECTIONS AT ALL. EVEN SLIGHT TURNS ARE DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS. THE CAR IS NOW COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE, AND HAS SWERVED OFF THE ROAD SEVERAL TIMES, AND EVEN SCRAPED A DIVIDER BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED INTO PLACE AND COULDN'T BE CORRECTED. THESE WERE ALL WHILE DRIVING, DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, STEERING WAS SLIGHTLY EASIER. BUT THAT IS WHERE THE CRASH WITH THE DIVIDER HAPPENED. DRIVING ON CITY STREETS WAS MORE DIFFICULT BECAUSE THERE ARE MORE TURNS AND THEY ARE SHARPER. THIS IS NOW COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE. WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY, OR IN PARK, THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED IN PLACE AND CAN'T BE TURNED.

POWER TRAIN

Have been having power steering problems over the past few years. Started by displaying a shift to park message while driving, my car would then lose power and shut down completely and power steering would lock up. Have taken to dealerships and independent mechanics and was told it was the wiring harness which they repaired several times and the car continued to have the issue. Approximately 3 months ago I was driving 55mph on highway when suddenly without any warning, the power steering failed and locked up making it very difficult to turn the wheel to get the vehicle off the highway safely. The power steering locking up put myself, my passengers and other drivers at risk bc I had no control over the steering. When I got the vehicle off of the highway a message repeatedly coming on and off saying “service power steering “ and another message saying power steering assist off service system. I was able to get the vehicle home, however the steering was extremely difficult especially in turns which is a major safety concern increasing a risk of an accident. I have done a lot of research about this issue and have found that there are numerous others with the same issue and same make/model as my 2016 Chrysler 300 C. I took the vehicle to another independent mechanic and they told me they couldn’t figure out what is wrong with it. I made another appointment with another mechanic and when I attempted to drive it “manually” as I had to do when it initially started doing this, the electric power steering has now completely locked up and the wheel is not functional at all and power steering has completely failed. This is not only a huge inconvenience but a serious safety hazard and should be investigated by the manufacturer.

Main Fuel Pump and accompanied electrical connect. The fuel pump and electrical wiring harness is available upon request. My safety was at risk due to a faulty electrical connection inside the fuel tank. My vehicle made a loud hmming sound at a stop sign, upon continuing forward the vehicle shut off randomly. Upon inspection, the fuel was not sending to the engine. We bought a new fuel pump and replaced at the side of the road. When inspecting the OEM fuel pump and accompanied electrical connection, we noticed over heated wiring and melts plastic inside the fuel tank on the underside of the fuel pump, as well as burnt connections on the outside of the fuel tank on the tip side of the fuel pump. We have pictures to support. No warning signs, signals, or lights were present at the time of failure. When purchasing new fuel pump, there were no instructions for replacement of electrical connections. The only indication we found as to what was happening was through public forums online, showing the electrical wiring was faulty and needed replacing with the alternative wiring harness due to wiring (hot wire, b+) being located too close to the grounding wiring causing it to burn amd/or arch creating a problem with which could cause fire and explosion. No information was readily available nor have we received any information on potential catastrophic injury or failure.

This is an issue the manufacturer has been aware of for years yet still manufactures cars with this issue. Chrysler and Dodge vehicles. Issue is so common that replacement parts, which are not covered by manufacturer's warranty and can cost anywhere from $1000+ per door, are backordered.

POWER TRAIN

The bolts were loose on the driveshaft on the all-wheel-drive, which caused them to have to replace the entire driveshaft! If the driveshaft would’ve broke, whoever was driving the vehicle, whether it be me, or with my son in it, we would’ve wrecked and possibly died! The problem has been confirmed with a certified dealer! There is no warning signals. There was nothing and there is a recall on the same. There is a recall for the exact same problem as my car, and now they will not cover it because it doesn’t show up on the Vin! This is a very dangerous safety issue and Chrys learning to address this as soon as possible! Especially after one of their managers told me it would be paid for if I had a diagnosed with a certified dealer and now they’re saying they’re not paying for it
