I am filing a complaint regarding Ford Safety Recall 23S33 (NHTSA Campaign 23V440) for my 2020 Ford Fusion Energi. I brought my freshly purchased vehicle to my local authorized dealer, Sheehy Ford, to fix the high-voltage battery replacement recall. The dealership told me they had to order the part before they could schedule the repair. They have since stated that Ford corporate is experiencing low stock and is not allocating the necessary remedy parts to the dealer network, and referred me to call Ford corporate. Purchased this vehicle on 21 March 2026; took it to dealer to get the recall fixed on 23 March. Dealer said it would be delayed due to the recall being started in [XXX] (where the vehicle was shipped from via carmax, and sold to me in [XXX]). After a month, the dealer opened a case with Ford corporate (XXX). I called to check status, was put on hold for 20 minutes, then transferred, and was then disconnected. It has been 4 months since I took it in to get the recall repaired. The manufacturer is failing to provide a timely safety remedy as required by federal law, leaving me to drive a vehicle with a documented risk of fire and sudden loss of motive power. The car is suffering random shutdown and intermittent times. The battery is no longer holding a charge and when it shuts down this places me at extreme risk. Ford is unable to fix it so this is no longer happening without replacing the High Voltage battery - battery from ford alone is 11k. I cannot be the only one who is dealing with this car doing this.

Ford Fusion energi battery failure. Dealership wouldn't inspect the battery and kept replacing the battery control module. The replacement part kept failing under warranty and then the dealership quoted me $20,000 for the hybrid battery. They have replaced the BCM twice and error code P0dc9 keeps appearing. The EV range drops to zero randomly or gains range while parked and not plugged in. Dealership doesn't know what's happening even after paying money for diagnostics.

On 9/5/2024, the driver (27/M) and lone occupant was found unresponsive in the vehicle which was observed rolling to a stop. The vehicle impacted a chain link fence at low speed and there was minimal damage to the vehicle. First responders commented: "extremely noxious odor, smelling like burnt eggs was detected. Odor was most prevalent in backseat area and then when the trunk was opened. In the trunk is where the vehicle's hybrid battery system was located". The driver was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced dead on 9/5/2024. An autopsy was performed with toxicological analysis. Hydrogen sulfide was detected.

The vehicle is with the Insurance company Allstate, I believe should be available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Answer: The vehicle caught fire after just dropping my kid in to his school, the school has to be evacuated as the vehicle burned near the building. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Answer: There is an existing recall "Phev battery cell degragation" from Ford. Here is the Campaign/NHTSA#: 23S33/23V440 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Answer: The Fire Marshall and the Police was present and we had Police report(case num: [XXX]) and Fire Marshall report(case num: [XXX]) 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Answer: I did notice an unusual behavior, like minutes before the fire the AC fan suddenly turned up blowing a non cold air, I attempted to turn off the vehicle 2 or 3 times until the fan and the vehicle completely turned off. I turned it back on to have AC again and it was good, after like less than 5 minutes I turned off the vehicle to get out of the car with my kid to drop him in his school.
