Ford Fusion energi battery failure. Dealership wouldn't inspect the battery and kept replacing the battery control module. The replacement part kept failing under warranty and then the dealership quoted me $20,000 for the hybrid battery. They have replaced the BCM twice and error code P0dc9 keeps appearing. The EV range drops to zero randomly or gains range while parked and not plugged in. Dealership doesn't know what's happening even after paying money for diagnostics.
NHTSA complaint #11742569 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
I routinely have plugged in my PHEV, enjoying the quiet electric ride. I could complete a day's commute with the electric charge. However, the battery capacity was significantly reduced at about 50K miles. At about 73K miles, within a couple miles of starting to drive, the car would decelerate and go into 'limp mode', with a top speed of 35MPH. A warning signal of a wrench would appear, indicating a power train fault. While diagnostics at the dealer didn't detect a cause, an emissions test required by the State of Colorado found an 'unstable Hybrid Battery A voltage'. I replaced the spark plugs as recommended by the dealer, but that didn't address the problem. The diagnostics and repair cost about $1000.00
NHTSA complaint #11731934 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion Energi. The contact stated while attempting to drive out of the drive-thru, the gear shifter was stuck in park(P). The contact had experienced several failures. The contact stated that the transmission failed to shift into drive. The contact stated that once the vehicle was parked the gear shifter remained stuck in park(P). The contact manually depressed the button under the gear shifter to move the gear shifter. The check engine warning light and service reminder light were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer and was diagnosed and determined that the shifter cable bushing had detached and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

The lane keep assist does not work basically , it can't detect the lines , due to the recall I can't charge my car which I paid much more than regular ford fusion. To be able to use the Electric miles and save on gas , also the 3G modem stopped working and ford has no fix for that , took it to different dealers and they say even if I replace the old modem with a new 4G, (paying out of my own pocket !!) most likely the app and remote connection will not work .

On 3/26/24 I was driving home on the interstate and the vehicle lost power and started to smell like burning plastic. I barely got the car on the side of the road when it stopped moving. It was towed to Ford and they confirmed that it was due to the recall. I was very luck this did not cause an accident
NHTSA complaint #11584142 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
My vehicle had a recall opened nearly a year ago. The recall is 23S33 PHEV BATTERY CELL DEGRADATION. I had taken my car into the dealership nearly a dozen times over the course of almost 2 years prior to the recall being announced. I was told not to charge a car that I bought for that specific purpose. Initially a solution was posted of replacing the battery which was then removed. So there very much is a remedy available, they just don't want to pay the cost to provide that remedy. I am attaching a saved image of the recall from ford's website that under remedy specifically states what the remedy is. The longer they wait the less of these vehicles will be on the road due to accidents and such. So the longer they delay the less they have to spend to solve the issue. Meanwhile customers are not only unable to charge a vehicle that we bought for that purpose, but are driving a car Ford has admitted is dangerous. As it's a hybrid electric the battery is still being used everytime we drive the car.

Recall issued 6/23 23S33- Over 7 months and Ford has NOT corrected this serious problem, nor is there anything in the updates to lead one to believe they have an interest in doing so. I have spent hours trying to coerce this company to do something, but to no avail!! How much longer will YOU allow them to get away with this!!! A serious fire, or collision may result!! Must someone DIE in order for you to take action!!
NHTSA complaint #11570316 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion Energi. The contact stated that after parking and turning off the vehicle, the vehicle started rolling backward. The contact could hear an abnormal metal grinding sound. The vehicle then stopped independently. Upon starting the vehicle and attempting to drive, the vehicle failed to move. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where the battery was replaced. The vehicle was then towed to a second dealer, Lance Cunningham Ford (4101 Clinton Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37912), where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The dealer advised the contact that he had to pay out of pocket for the repair. The vehicle had been at the dealer since February. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) however, parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
NHTSA complaint #11475277 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion Energi. The contact stated while driving approximately 45-60 MPH, the vehicle started making an abnormally loud humming sound while releasing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that upon depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated and jerked backward several times. The contact was able to continue driving; however, the failure reoccurred increasingly while driving the following day. The warning message "Engine coolant temperature - Pull Over As Soon As Possible" was displayed. The contact veered to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where the failure was diagnosed as a transmission failure. The dealer informed the contact that the repair would be covered by the manufacturer; however, the parts were on back order. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,070.

SHIFTER BUSHING CABLE - THIS PART BROKE OFF FROM MY VEHICLE BACK IN JULY. THE BUSHING CONNECTS SHIFTER ARM TO TRANSMISSION. WITHOUT THIS PIECE, MY VEHICLE NEEDS ASSISTANCE TO COMPLETE EVERY SINGLE SHIFT. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MOVE FROM PARK TO DRIVE, I HAVE TO GET OUT OF MY VEHICLE, OPEN THE HOOD, PLACE THE SHIFTER DOWN ON THE TRANSMISSION ARM, THEN SHIFT THE CART. TO GO FROM DRIVE TO PARK, I HAVE TO ENGAGE THE PARKING BREAK, GET OUT OF THE CAR, POP THE HOOD, REATTACH THE SHIFTER ARM, THEN SHIFT THE CAR. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE JULY 2018 WITH NO NOTICE FROM FORD ON WHEN THE REPLACEMENT PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. THIS SPECIFIC PART IS NOT SOLD ON THE AFTERMARKET EITHER, MEANING THAT I DO NOT HAVE ANY WAY TO FIX MY CAR AND THUS HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUE EVERY SINGLE TIME I DRIVE THE CAR. I'M VERY CONCERNED THAT ALL OF THIS SHIFTING AND OPENING AND CLOSING OF MY HOOD IS CAUSING LONG-TERM DAMAGE TO THE CAR (THAT FORD WOULD MOST LIKELY NOT FIX). I HAVE CALLED FORD OVER 8 TIMES TO COMPLAIN AND HAVE RECEIVED NO ETA ON PARTS, NO OTHER WAY TO FIX THE ISSUE, NOR ANY COMPENSATION/HELP TOWARDS ME BEING ABLE TO USE MY CAR. RECALL WAS ISSUED ON JULY 20TH, 2018; OVER 3 MONTHS LATER, NO REPLACEMENT PART HAS BEEN PROVIDED.

I LOST POWER WHILE ON THE FREEWAY TO ABOUT 40 MPH FROM 65 MPH, MANY INDICATORS FLASHED: "SEE MANUAL", "PRE-COLLISION ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE", "SERVICE ADVANCE TRACK", "DOWNHILL ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE", THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AS WELL AS THE AIRBAG LIGHT, I GOT OFF THE FREEWAY, TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN ON AGAIN, LOOKED TO SEE IF FOR SOME REASON IT WAS IN "L". I ENDED UP GETTING TO MY DESTINATION, IT SAT FOR 2 HOURS THEN I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, (BECAUSE THE TOW TRUCK WAS TAKING TOO LONG) AND IT SEEMED FINE. I DROVE IT SHORT DISTANCES THE NEXT DAY, IT WAS STILL FINE (CK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON BTW) BUT AFTER GOING 20 MILES IT DID IT AGAIN! LOW POWER, LOTS OF DIFFERENT INDICATIONS OF ERRORS. I ALSO NOTICED THE ENGINE SEEM TO STAY AT A HIGH RPM AT A STOP LIGHT, PRIOR TO THIS IT SEEMED LIKE IT WASN'T SHIFTING LIKE IT SHOULD. (IT WAS TAKING TOO LONG TO DOWNSHIFT, NOT SURE IF IT IS BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING MY OTHER POWERFUL AND LOUD CAR RECENTLY). AT THE DEALER THEY SAID IT WAS THE ABS RELAY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR ALMOST 3 MONTHS, IT IS A 2017 AND IT WAS CERTIFIED USED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY ARE RE-CALIBRATING THE OTHER RELAYS/SWITCHES AND THE ABS IS STILL CREATING A PROBLEM. THEY ARE REPLACING IT WHICH IS GOOD BECAUSE I WOULDN'T FEEL SAFE IF IT WASN'T GOING TO BE REPLACED.

MY 2014 FORD FUSION HAD MOTOR MOUNTS GO OUT ON IT, I'M BEING TOLD THAT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. I'M NOT EXACTLY SURE HOW THAT IS NOT COVERED. I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR IT'S BEEN TO THE DEALER PROBABLY ABOUT 53 OF THE FIVE TIMES IT'S BEEN IN FOR THE CROSS TRAFFIC S I'M NOT EXACTLY SURE HOW THAT IS NOT COVERED. I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR IT'S BEEN TO THE DEALER PROBABLY ABOUT 53 OF THE FIVE TIMES IT'S BEEN IN FOR THE CROSS TRAFFIC SENSOR MALFUNCTION AND YET AGAIN IT STILL IS SHOWING MALFUNCTION I AM SO CLOSE TO FILING A LEMON LAW ON THIS VEHICLE IT'S A 2014 WITH 60,000 MILES AND I CAN'T EVEN TRUST IT TO GET ME TO AND FROM WORK ANYMORE. WORST PURCHASE OF MY LIFE. BACK TO THE MOTOR MOUNTS I WAS LEAVING WORK PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND WHEN I WAS BACKING UP I FELT A MAJOR VIBRATION I GOT OUT AND CHECKED EVERYTHING STARTED ROCKING THE CAR BACK-AND-FORTH BY HAND AND REALIZE THE ENGINE WAS MOVING ABRUPTLY TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE I WAS TOLD IT IS NOT COVERED BY MY WARRANTY AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY APPROXIMATELY $395 AND COVER MY OWN RENTAL CAR IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM FAIR, ALSO HAD TO PAY TO HAVE A NEW STEERING WHEEL AND BUT PUT ON BEFORE THE RECALL CAME OUT, AND WAS TOLD I CAN'T GET REIMBURSED BECAUSE IT WAS 6 MONTHS BEFORE THE RECALL WAS ISSUED.

SAFELY STOP NOW DISPLAYED ON THE MESSAGE CENTER LEFT SCREEN WITH NO PRIOR WARNING. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO LOOSE ACCELERATION SPEED ON JEFFERSON AVENUE AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AFTER EXITING THE INTERSTATE I 64 ONTO THE MAIN ROAD OF 45 MPH SPEED LIMIT. THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY REDUCED SPEED TO 25 MPH TO 2 MPH. I PARKED THE CAR IN A NEARBY CAR DEALERSHIP PARKING LOT AND HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AS OF JULY 27TH AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RETURN CALL TO FIND OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT IF I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE AND COULD NOT PULL OVER SAFELY.
