My vehicle is currently suffering a failed head gasket. I was alerted about this issue from local mechanics and friends way before it actually happened. I took it to services and regular maintenance even more frequently after that. However, it still failed no matter what. I took it to the dealership, they even admitted that this is a known problem for this generation of vehicle. They still proceeded to ask nearly $7000 to fix it, saying that even though this is a known issue, there was no recalls on the vehicles so they could not waive or deduct the fees.
NHTSA complaint #11721881 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
City street driving speed < 35-40 mph, engine began rough idling at stop light after traveling just 1/8 mile. After driving less than 1 mile on level ground, engine slowed and would not accelerate above 20 mph. After another mile or so, increasing uphill grade caused speed to slow to 12-14 mph. Stepping on gas caused car to slow down even more, with shaking and jerky stop-start of vehicle. Maintaining 10-12 mph permitted vehicle to continue uphill climb for a few more miles so I could reach home. Downhill coasting was smooth with no gas pedal acceleration. Overnight parked in garage, and no problems driving vehicle to local independent auto mechanic. They were able to duplicate problem after 2 days and multiple test drives. Diagnosed permanent and temporary engine codes: misfires of cylinders 1 and 4 with ignition coil malfunction, misfires of cylinders 1, 2, 4, and random misfires. Also permanent codes: antilock brake ECM Failure, electric power steering vehicle stability assist System Malfunction, electric servo brake electric power train System Malfunction. Mechanic removed coils and spark plugs, found cylinder 4 has moisture. Coils, plugs cleaned and re-installed. Honda Dealer unable to duplicate problem after 3 days.

At approximately [XXX]. Pacific, I was traveling southbound in the fastrak lane of the [XXX] departing from Pleasant Hill, California headed to Pleasanton, California. As I began to accelerate, the engine began to sputter. Immediately, the check engine light flashed on, then the dashboard reported a number of issues ranging from brake failure, TPMS failure, power assisted steering failure, vehicle stability assist failure and a number of other issues that I have never encountered since purchasing the vehicle. The sudden deceleration almost resulted in other cars impacting my car as this occurred during the morning commute. I was able to safely navigate off of the freeway. I was on speakerphone with Honda when this occurred. Had I not acted swiftly, a potential high speed rear end collision was likely to have occurred. I immediately took the car to Concord Honda. The team at Concord Honda performed a diagnosis and advised me that my head gasket was leaking water into the combustion chamber which resulted in the sudden loss of power. I was and continue to be dissatisfied with the handling of this issue by Honda as my car has never been handled by another mechanic. My car has a perfect or near perfect maintenance record and should not have a blown head gasket at 80k miles especially since my car is meticulously maintained and serviced by Concord Honda. NHTSA complaint #11679970 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
On three different occasions earlier this year 2025, my car electric system would completely shut down. My safety was put at risk because this would often happen while I was driving. After three different diagnoses at two different dealerships, the San Francisco dealership found that there was a fuse shortage and it was an electrical problem. They were able to fix it and I paid out of pocket. Now, in July 2025, I was again on the road driving when I get an error message on the dash: emission system, problem, and cooling system problem. I was not able to accelerate my car. Again my safety was at risk. I had to stop on the street, turned off my car, and when I tried turning it back on, the engine would not start, but the electric system was fine. My car is a 2017 hybrid Honda Accord – it is way too new to be having all of these issues. I always take my car for maintenance regularly and my car is in good condition.
NHTSA complaint #11670514 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Vehicle shakes roughly and vibrations on this 2024 Honda Accord hybrid when transitioning from electric to gas motor at idle. This occurs sporadically but generally when idling in traffic or a drive thru etc. The electric motor is working in this idle stage, but when the heater or AC is on and you are idling for a period of time, it will kick on the gas motor causing shaking of the vehicle. This occurs mainly when the gas motor is kicking on from idle and sometimes when it shuts itself back off again. This problem was reported to selling dealer Smail Honda at a service appointment on 6/9/25. Tech did not find the problem and left these notes: "Scanned computer for faults and none present. Vehicle operating as designed." In my opinion, the vehicle is not operating as designed and this could be a possible safety issue so I'm filing this incident with NHTSA.
NHTSA complaint #11666852 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
On 5/8/25 when the light turned green at the stop light, my car shut down while the gear was on drive. It immediately came back on with the dashboard showing warnings for the (TPMS), brakes system, stability system, among others. I accelerated while on drive but the car did not move forward. I turned the flashers on. I had cars behind me honking and going around me. I put the shifter in Park. A car behind almost rear ended me. I tried a second time to go by shifting the gear to Drive but I had no luck. I put it back in Park and turned it off. I turned it back on and the dashboard seemed fine, the car accelerated when I shifted it to Drive. This is the second time that the same car shut down on me, the first time was over a year ago when the car was in motion at around 40 mph, I was able to pull over. The first time the dealer replaced a part and told me the problem was fixed. This time around the advisor said there's nothing they can do because they can't replicate the problem. It's very concerning because it can happen at any time anywhere at any speed.

12/22/23: I was accelerating onto the highway when multiple error messages popped up on the screen related to brakes, emission system, power steering, and others. The car’s accelerator lost power and slowed to a stop on the side of the highway. The interior electronics didn’t lose power, and neither did power steering or power brakes to my knowledge. I restarted the car and the warning lights remained on, however the accelerator appeared to function normally. Honda was unable to diagnose or fix. 3/31/25: I was pulling out of a parking deck when the engine lost power (no throttle) at the same time that multiple error messages came on to the screen. I coasted into a parking spot (brakes appeared to work) and turned the car off. I turned it back on and all of the lights had turned off except a warning about the brakes and TPMS (I think). The engine appeared to work normally, and I immediately drove to the Southpoint Honda service center. 4/8/25: Recap from Honda: Your car had a couple issues, they're all related. The first thing you're complaining about the stalling condition that is a known issue. There's a software update that fixes that. So I got it in here to do the software update, but then I could not communicate to the vehicle. The can Gateway module was unresponsive, which the car will run fine without it. But then, I can't talk to the car. So after testing everything and finding the module to have failed, I replaced the can Gateway this morning. Everything's communicating fine and software is updating right now for the module. Then I'm going to update the pgmfi software for the ICM system to correct the communication loss within the network that causes the stalling issue. So those two issues will be corrected.

@ 96,970 miles, (2021 Honda Accord Hybrid) when getting on the freeway and accelerating to catch up with traffic, the car began sputtering, the check engine light flashed, the accelerator stopped working and I had to get it to the shoulder of the freeway immediately. The car sputtered and shook. I turned the car off, let it sit. I tried re-starting it and it started fine, no check engine light. I drove it slow off the freeway and to my home close by. I got it to the dealer. The Service Rep said he had never heard of this issue although it does appear on Honda Forums. He said no codes showed and decided it needed a Cylinder adjustment and then decided it also needed a new (refurbished) transmission. It was in the shop for weeks. I've tried warming the car up longer and using more expensive gas. Issue continues to happen. I called an made an appointment at the dealer for first available date. Today I had it checked for codes again from a different mechanic and the mechanic said it has no codes - at all. Fluids all perfect, no issues with coolant levels. All maintenance has been completed on schedule. I did video tape my dash when it happened Wednesday, on I80, 3/5/25 12:12pm.

While driving at speeds between 3-70 MPH, the vehicle will intermittently display multiple warning lamps along with having an immediate loss of motive power (go into LIMP mode). When this occurs, the car must be coasted over to the side of the road & restarted typically twice to clear all of the dash alerts. Having a car go into LIMP mode while driving on city streets, highways or interstates puts our family in danger as well as the safety of others on the road near us. This issue has reproduced itself over a dozen times for our family & the service department has not been able to reproduce/confirm when brought in for repair. The service team on the 1st service date found multiple codes for loss of communications. They cleared the codes, found no permanent codes, performed a hard reset on the system & sent the car home. The 2nd service call again showed multiple codes for loss of communications. They were not able to reproduce the issue & sent the car home. The 3rd service call displayed the same codes as before. They updated the ICM software & sent the car home. The 4th service call displayed the same codes. The service team attempted to reproduce the issue by driving the vehicle for ~250 miles unsuccessfully & wanted to send the car home. We disagreed & they mentioned we should open a case with Honda which we did. Several days later Honda & the service team replaced the integrated control unit. It will take much time & many miles before we can be certain the ICM replacement did or did not resolve the issue. The issue 1st occurred near 6,200 in mileage and roughly 4 months after purchase. The car now has over 27,000 miles. As far as warning lamps during an event, multiple pop up that are images/icons as well as text of issues you can scroll through. Battery lamp, vehicle stability assist reduced traction and handling, brake system problem brake performance may be reduced, electric power steering system problem steering assist reduced, etc.

There has been a recall on my vehicle for almost two years. About every two or three months I get another notification that I need to bring it in to be repaired. No matter which dealership I take it to there are no parts available nor have there been for 18 months. I am told that I will need to wait with no timeline of when the vehicle will be repaired. DEFECTIVE RECALLED-REPLACEMENT FUEL PUMP? NHTSA Campaign # 23V858000 “Fuel pump failure can cause engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.” My 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid had gotten 50 mpg in September & October of 2024 – as it had been getting consistently, reliably for the past six years. Also, I have Always driven 545 miles per tank of gas consistently, reliably for the past six years. My original fuel pump, which was recalled (NHTSA #23V858000), NEVER failed and operated perfectly efficiently for six years. In December 2024 I observed the NHTSA fuel-pump-recall and had the “perfect” original fuel pump replaced. As soon as the “New” fuel pump was installed at the dealership, my MPG dropped to 39mpg AND miles-driven-per-tank of gas dropped to 445 miles! Shocking! My 2018 Accord Hybrid lost 100 miles of driving Range, and mpg dropped to non-hybrid performance! This leaves me to question the SAFETY of the NEW Recall-Replacement fuel pump. Also, since the “New” replacement Fuel pump was installed, my High-Voltage Lithium-Ion Battery Pack has been “kicking-in” more frequently to assist the less efficient new fuel pump. This causes the gas engine to rev longer at high rpms whenever I start the car in order to constantly recharge the HV Lithium Ion Batteries that must assist the less efficient New fuel pump . It appears to be a precarious cycle of decline for both the fuel pump and HVLI batteries! Help! I would like NHTSA to determine: 1.Is the replacement fuel pump “failing” from the time of installation? 2.Was a “new” fuel pump actually installed, or was a “defective part replaced in the original recalled fuel pump? 3.Is the replacement fuel pump not designed technologically as the original fuel pump? 4.How SAFE is the “NEW Fuel Pump”? 5.Are other Honda Hybrid owners who had their fuel pumps replaced under # 23V858000 complaining of poor performance? Is this a serious indication of rapid replacement (New) fuel pump failure?

I am a [XXX]. I contacted Honda customer service to escalate my situation. I have not yet received help from the Winston-Salem Honda dealer as of 9:00 a.m. on 10/18/24. I have complained to the Department of Justice's consumer protection division. I have sent documentation. I reached out on Facebook. I was last contacted by Dallas, even though Mike's name is on my last paperwork. This is suspicious. My rubber on my door has been replaced. My seatbelt was missing a bolt. Tires with regular, correct maintenance from the dealer should last 30,000 miles. Because Honda of Winston-Salem did not follow the schedule, after bringing my car to them many times, I have to replace my four tires at under 22,000 miles. I have lost 30% of my tires' lifespan unnecessarily due to a lack of regular balancing and rotation, despite multiple visits to Honda of Winston-Salem. My last recall letter arrived over 60 days ago. My seatbelt, CVT transmission, and engine have recalls. My window tint has faded, my door is failing, my brakes have issues, there are electrical issues, and the ceiling is sagging. My Hondalink is incorrect. I asked for help with car features and I paid $3000 up front extended warranty, but they refused to assist. Since the recall has been in place, I have attempted to get it fixed. I have reported to Honda lights coming on and off since January 14th. On January 17th took photos and video. On Thursday [XXX], the emissions light came on regarding this issue and losing power. I called Napa Kastner Honda and reported the issue and spoke with Lizette at 330pm she said it was part of the recall, but I could continue to drive the vehicle and they would call me when parts become available. Each time I go in I have to pay for diagnosis testing. I don’t want to continue to wait and want to sell my vehicle now, but no dealer will accept a trade in or offer the actual value of my vehicle given the emission light. No one is helping me remedy this issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Honda service center (1601 Dallas Pkwy, Frisco, TX 75034) is avoiding making a repair of recalled fuel pump. I took the car in on what they said was a slow day for a 3hr repair. They told me it would take 2+ days to repair and that if I scheduled in advance they could make sure to get it done in about 3 hours. I scheduled a week in advance with an appointment and came in and they used the same excuse again telling me that it would take them 2+ days. When I complained they came up with a second excuse that the repair can't be done on a mostly full tank of gas (which is not true, it's just harder for them to do it) and even if it was true, they've never once notified me during my prior interactions. The Honda dealership is clearly avoiding their obligation to make the repair and is putting my safety at risk.
