Owners have filed 97 complaints
about the 2022 Honda Passport with NHTSA between 2022 and 2026.
The largest single group is the driver assist & collision avoidance.
Across this model's run it ranks 13 of 17 worst.
The letter says how bad. This says what kind — whether this year drew
an unusual number of complaints, unusually dangerous
ones, or failures that arrived unusually early.
The dashed ring is 50 — the national norm. Further out is worse.
Complaint volume — 36
Against the median year of the Honda Passport. 50 means typical for this
model; 100 means roughly double.
Severity — 11
2.1% of these complaints
involved a crash, fire, injury or death, against a national rate of
9.7%.
Early failure — 77
45% of failures with a mileage on record happened under
36,000 miles, against a national rate of
29%.
NHTSA files every complaint against a named sub-assembly, not just a
system. This is the difference between knowing it was "the engine" and
knowing which part of it — the list to hand a mechanic.

NHTSA investigations into the 2022 Honda Passport
An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough
complaints to look into a pattern itself. An open one means it thinks
something may be wrong and nothing has been fixed yet.

Recalls on the 2022 Honda Passport
A complaint is one owner's allegation. A recall is the point at which
the manufacturer or a regulator agreed the defect is real and dangerous
enough to fix for free — however old the car is.

STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS
American Honda Motor Company (Honda) is recalling certain 2016-2022 Honda Pilot, 2017-2023 Ridgeline, 2019-2023 Passport, and 2014-2020 Acura MDX vehicles that were sold in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, or Wisconsin. The rear subframe may corrode at the suspension mounting points, which can result in rear suspension component failure.
Risk: Failure of rear suspension components, such as the rear control arm, can cause a loss of vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
23V458000
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Civic, 2020-2023 Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot, and 2020 Acura MDX vehicles. The tie rod fastener that connects the brake booster and the brake master cylinder may have been improperly assembled during manufacturing, which can cause the brake master cylinder to separate from the booster assembly.
Risk: Brake master cylinder separation can cause a loss of brake function and increase the risk of a crash.
23V431000
BACK OVER PREVENTION:DISPLAY FUNCTION
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2023 Odyssey, 2019-2022 Pilot, and 2019-2023 Passport vehicles. Due to a faulty Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) communication coaxial cable connector, the rearview camera image may not appear on the display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Risk: A rearview camera that does not display an image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
23V174000
VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES:EXTERIOR
Honda (American Honda Motor Co) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Pilot and Ridgeline, and 2020-2022 Passport and Odyssey vehicles. The heating pads behind both side-view mirrors may not be bonded properly, allowing the mirror glass to detach. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Risk: Detached mirror glass can reduce driver visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Recall 2026275136,260 units in Canada
Structure
Issue: On certain vehicles, the suspension mounting points on the rear subframe could rust. As a result, rear suspension components could fail. This could lead to poor handling and a loss of vehicle control. Safety Risk: A loss of control could create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Honda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and install a rear subframe reinforcement kit or replace the subframe, as necessary.
Recall 202336512,246 units in Canada
Brakes
Issue: On certain vehicles, the brake master cylinder could separate from the brake booster. If this happens, braking could be reduced or you could experience a complete loss of brakes. Safety Risk: Reduced braking or a loss of brakes can increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Honda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the brake master cylinder and brake booster. The dealer will inspect for any missing nuts and damaged brake booster parts and replace them as necessary.
Recall 202335088,228 units in Canada
Visual System
Issue: On certain vehicles, the terminals on the coaxial cable for the audio display unit may not have been manufactured correctly. As a result, the audio display unit could lose its connection, and the rearview camera image may not display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Honda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the media oriented systems transport (MOST) cable harness, and install a cover over the audio display unit connector.
Recall 202313612,916 units in Canada
Visual System
Issue: On certain vehicles, the side mirror glass may not be attached properly. As a result, the mirror glass could vibrate or fall off. Safety Risk: A missing mirror will reduce rear visibility and could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Honda will notify owners by mail. Due to a parts supply issue, Honda advises that you should only take your vehicle to a dealership if the mirror is loose, vibrating or has fully detached. Honda will send you a second notice when the replacement parts are available, and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the glass on both side mirrors.

While driving, the main dashboard instrument cluster gauge screen completely blacks out without warning, followed immediately by the center infotainment screen going completely dark. This total loss of the dashboard screen leaves me with absolutely no way to see my current vehicle speed, odometer, critical safety warning lights, or fuel level while traveling at highway speeds, creating an immediate and severe driving hazard. The center infotainment screen and rearview camera also fail to activate. These symptoms perfectly mirror the network failure described in NHTSA Recall 23V-431 (MFR Campaign ID: ZEM) for the MOST FAKRA communication cables on 2022 Honda Passports. However, when checking my 17-character VIN, the system states my vehicle is excluded from the recall registry. Because this defect causes a catastrophic loss of critical driver safety information (speedometer) and backup camera functions, this VIN exclusion needs to be investigated and expanded.

The starter motor on my 2022 Honda Passport failed, causing a complete 'no-restart' condition after entering Auto Idle-Stop mode. The vehicle previously received the mandatory PGM-FI idle-stop software update under Honda Service Bulletin 23-008, proving that the software fix does not protect the hardware from failing. The dealership diagnosed a failed starter but stated that my 2022 model is excluded from the 10-year starter warranty extension under Service Bulletin 23-009, leaving me to pay out-of-pocket for a known defect. I am filing this to support the ongoing NHTSA Engineering Analysis regarding Honda Auto Idle-Stop system failures, as the defect creates a dangerous stall risk at intersections

I own a 2022 Honda Passport . The vehicle auto idle-stop system has failed to restart at a traffic light. The vehicle shuts down and eventually restarts after several manual attempts and was able to be driven again. Typically, the vehicle stops in the middle of the road at the stop light and the engine shuts down. After a while, I was able to restart and drive without issues. In the meantime I am in a stalled vehicle in the middle of high speed traffic. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed with having a starter failure and two burned out relays. I have never had a problem starting the vehicle when I begin a drive. The parts were repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 38,100. Failed parts were retained by the dealer.

I drive the car with the engine-idle-at-stop function disengaged. Several times when slowing down, but still moving, the car shifts into park; the AC and radio remain on. I have to press engine start to start the engine. Several other times when already stopped, such as at a red light or in traffic, waiting to make a turn, the engine shuts off and the car shifts into park. I have to press the engine start button to turn the car back on. I am getting honked and hollered at in traffic, and could easily be vulnerable to being rear-ended when my moving car suddently turns off ad stops running (winds up in Park). A non-dealer ran diagnostics and found No History of any error codes, and the system worked when they drove it. The day before the non-dealer had the car, it shut off 2 times in about 2 miles. He said the New battery is fine, the alternator is fine, and they do not know what to troubleshoot. No lights light up prior to the incidents, but they light up momentarily during it: it is the "Charging System Indicator" and the "Malfunction Indicator Lamp" that light up. The new battery is one week old and installed as per the owner's manual and was checked by a 3rd party today. These events have occurred with both the original and new batteries. All of this has been over the past few months, with most incidents - an escalation - the past couple of weeks.

The contact owns a 2022 Honda Passport. The contact stated that the idle stop/start feature had failed on multiple occasion while at a complete stop. The contact stated that the feature could be disabled; however, the contact would be burdened with the task of disabling the feature each time after starting the vehicle. Once the failure would occur, the vehicle would remain in neutral(N) and would not restart in neutral. The contact would be forced to place the vehicle into (P) and manually restart the engine; this had been a cause for concern as this failure would cause the contact to hold up traffic. The contact also express concern that the failure may lead to an accident. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer on multiple occasions to address the issue where he had been informed to turn off the feature, replace the battery, and have a battery reset performed on the vehicle. The contact had performed all three recommended remedies; however, the failure had persisted. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. My sunroof glass randomly exploded! Yes, my safety and others safety was threatened! Glass shards would have hit my face had my sunshade not been closed! Glass shards flew off the back of my vehicles and there was another vehicle driving in the same lane behind me. The road was smooth and there were no potholes present. My car was driving smoothly, no warnings of any sort alerted me to any issues. As I was driving, I suddenly heard a VERY LOUD “pow!” kind of noise from the top of my car. It was incredibly loud, and sounded like a gunshot or a firework on the roof of my vehicle. I was able to pull over to inspect my car, and I immediately saw the damage to my sunroof. The rest of my car stayed perfectly intact, and there was no rock present, no foreign debris, and no mark on my interior sliding sunshade (indicating nothing hit my sunroof glass to shatter it). My interior sliding sunshade was closed at the time this incident occurred, as I am positive I would have experienced an injury to my face had it been open! The explosion from my glass was violent, as it did not simply crack my glass, but instead it blew up leaving shards of glass on top of the interior sliding sunshade – those shards would have hit my face and body when the explosion happened. I have photos of the damage and I also have two dash cams in my car – one of the cams records video footage of the front view of my vehicle, and the other camera records video footage of the back view from my vehicle. The video footage I have recorded also supports my claim fully, and demonstrates that no objects were “kicked up” and hit my car, and the back view shows the shards of glass flying off of my car during the explosion. You can also hear the loud “POP!” in the video footage I have, and it is very clear when this happened. A certified Honda dealership has my car at their shop right now. Honda Corporate has been slow to respond and they are falsely claiming they have never heard of this happening!

The starter failed to start the car due to what is described as a "frozen starter". A TSB exists for Honda where the problem is acknowledged, TSB 23-023. This left me stranded in the cold on 1/26 and 1/27. Many other drivers of similar vehicles have reported this problem in the past week. The problem is uniquely and disconcertingly dangerous as the problem impacts drivers who are in freezing conditions which can be inherently life-threatening if a known issue exists with a "frozen starter", this problem cannot be rectified by vehicle maintenance, for example, having a new battery or jump starter does not fix the problem. This problem strikes drivers in freezing and life-threatening conditions and is inherently unsafe and hazardous. The vehicle has not been inspected as Honda would not honor rectifying this issue for an "out of warranty" vehicle despite widespread concern. There were no warnings or messages prior to the problem. They first appeared in freezing cold after a precipitation event.

Codes that failed were listed as: P0730; P0700; P07A6; P07A8; P07A4. I have owned the car for one year and three months (purchased October 2024 for $34,000). I am being told it is just past the power train warranty, and Honda is not offering any assistance in covering the repair cost - $10,000.
