An investigation is the step before a recall: the agency has seen enough

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. Structure
Issue: On certain vehicles, the rear frame could rust where the fuel tank and rear subframe are mounted. If this happens, the fuel tank and/or rear subframe mounts could separate from the frame. This can allow the fuel tank to fall and become damaged, which could cause a fuel leak. Safety Risk: A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Honda will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the rear frame for corrosion. Depending on the outcome of the inspection, the dealer will either apply corrosion protection and install a support brace, or repair the frame. Honda will offer to repurchase vehicles that do not pass the inspection.

Issue: On certain vehicles, there could be a problem with the driver-front airbag inflator. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, pieces could be propelled toward the occupants. This could also cause damage to the airbag assembly and prevent it from inflating properly. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles that had a Takata airbag inflator installed during a previous airbag recall or collision repair. Safety Risk: In a crash where the airbag deploys, there could be an increased risk of injury. Corrective Action: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the driver-front airbag inflator replaced.

The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected.

On certain vehicles, a wiring harness connector for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning blower motor located under the passenger's side of the instrument panel may be subject to kicking by the front seat passenger's feet. If this occurs, the connector terminal may overheat, and this may cause the wire insulation to melt or the wiring connector to melt. A fire may occur if the wiring insulation melts and the exposed wires make contact with each other and create a short circuit. Correction: Dealers will replace damaged connectors and install a protective cover.

The dealer-installed accessory trailer wiring harness includes a circuit to provide for back-up lights, if present on a trailer, to illuminate when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear. When installed, and the ignition key is turned to the accessory position, the electronic display in the instrument panel indicates the actual position of the gearshift selector and also illuminates the reverse position indicator. If the reverse position is selected only the reverse position indicator will be lighted. The actual function of the transmission and that of the trailer lights will not be affected. When the ignition switch is in the accessory position the engine will always be off and the gearshift cannot be moved from the PARK position. Correction: Since this does not pose any safety risk, no corrective action is required.

There was a was a recall issued back in 2010 for the 2006 Honda Ridgeline. Mine is a 2006 but when I put in the VIN number it doesn't come up with a recall. I had the problem that you all are describing my vehicle caught fire from probably a faulty wiring harness.[XXX]. I am the 4th or 5th owner from the vehicle but it says that it was never recalled or it was never serviced. I am taking it to the dealership here today, and just want to know how to contact and who do you contact for more service recall information. The contact owns a 2006 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the dealer for an inspection, the dealer determined that the suspension and sub-frame were severely corroded. The contact was informed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V430000 (Structure) however, the dealer declined to perform the recall repair due to the suspension and sub-frame corrosion. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had recently purchased the vehicle from a private seller, who informed her that the engine and transmission had previously been replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 357,000. The contact took the vehicle to Bill Walsh Honda in Ottawa, IL for inspection and for the punch test required for recall 22V430 on Dec. 3, 2023 and was told the vehicle passed the punch test and needed to come back in a couple weeks to have new brackets put on to hold the gas tank. The appointment was set for Dec. 15, 2023 but the contact was told the punch test failed this time.

My vehicle was recalled for the rusting rear frame (Honda Case # [XXX]) which I took into the local Honda dealer (Stafford Brown in Arlington VA). The service manager at the dealer explained the subframe is rusted extensively to the extent that it is a safety issue. The service manager noted, while the vehicle passed the required Honda test specified in the Honda recall, it is a hazard, and the vehicle would likely fail the same test in 6 to 12 months. The service manager noted they can only address what is specified in the recall. The manager submitted the concern and pictures to the Honda DPSM. The manager also provided me with a copy of the pictures. I also submitted the pictures, to include the email from the service manager to Honda USA. Honda USA rep, Ms [XXX] , (case # [XXX]) contacted me and apologized for the situation I am in but offered no means to address the safety concerns. Honda could not explain why they have no remediation for the rust issue that is still a safety hazard when the recall was for rust. Honda is not addressing the issue that they responsible for and was required to remedy by NHTSA, which is rust. I am attaching the pictures and emails sent to me by the Honda Service Manager. My vehicle was recalled because corrosion can form on the rear frame due to accumulation of road de-icing agents mixed with mud and dirt. The fuel tank, which is mounted to the rear frame, can become unsecured as the rear frame deteriorates from corrosion. An unsecured fuel tank may result in a fuel leak and an increased risk of fire in the presence of an ignition source. Loud noises from the rear of the vehicle can alert you in the event the fuel tank becomes unsecured. I called to make an appointment for the recall on [XXX] and it was dropped of at Williams Honda in Traverse City MI the next day for nearest appointment which was [XXX}. I was notified by Williams Honda on [XXX] that my vehicle failed the inspection and could not be fixed. Williams Honda told me to expect a call from Honda. I never did until I called a week later. I tried to get a loaner vehicle or rental since mine could not be repaired. Honda advised that Williams needed to arrange it and Williams advised that it needed to be approved by Honda. This went back an forth for weeks until Honda advised that I could have a rental if I drove to Williams 2 hours from my house. Honda suggested that I purchase a rental vehicle with my own money and submit for reimbursement with the hopes that I would be made whole. It is now [XXX] and they still have refused to make reasonable accommodations for a rental vehicle and they have not fixed my vehicle.
