FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

Subject: Vehicle Lost Power While Driving – Potential Battery/Electrical Safety Issue On August 15, 2026, my vehicle suddenly began malfunctioning and lost power while I was driving my daughter to a medical appointment. I was on/near Highway 20 and had to maneuver the vehicle into a parking lot to avoid being struck. My daughter and I were extremely fortunate not to be injured. The vehicle was subsequently towed to Mall of Georgia Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for evaluation. The dealership stated that both the main and auxiliary batteries need to be replaced and indicated that the main battery purchased from AutoZone may be faulty. The main battery was purchased from AutoZone on June 20, 2026. After an earlier vehicle failure, AutoZone tested the battery on July 24, 2026, and reported it as 100% charged/good. AutoZone Corporate has since stated that its testing equipment is functioning properly, while the dealership maintains that the battery is faulty. I am concerned that there may be an underlying battery, electrical, charging, or vehicle-system safety issue that caused the vehicle to lose power while being driven. I am requesting that NHTSA document this incident and determine whether it may represent a safety defect or a broader vehicle safety concern. I can provide the battery purchase receipt, AutoZone test results, dealership service records, towing records, and other documentation upon request.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

The vehicle experiences severe, recurring electrical and drivetrain failures while operating at highway speeds (up to 70 MPH). On August 8, 2026, while driving on the highway, the vehicle suffered a sudden loss of motive power/drivetrain engagement accompanied by non-stop audible warning chimes, cluster warning light cascades, and an SVC 4WD (Service 4WD) message disabling drive modes. This sudden loss of power on a high-speed highway created an immediate, near-miss collision risk for my family and surrounding traffic. Service & Repair History: The issue has recurred across multiple dates (June 30, July 4, July 10, July 14, and August 8, 2026). The vehicle was held by Castle Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Naperville for nearly three weeks (July 14 – August 7). The dealer cleared Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and returned the un-repaired vehicle, stating that Stellantis is "working on a software fix." The failure recurred twice immediately after pickup on August 8 at 13,662 and 13,696 miles. The dangerous highway loss-of-power condition remains unrectified.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

The vehicle suffers from severe, persistent electrical and powertrain failures that compromise safe operation. Multiple Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) have completely failed, including the Lane Keeping Assistance, Blind Spot Warning, and Forward Collision Warning systems. When driving, the vehicle constantly flashes erratic dashboard warning messages and emits continuous warning chimes without cause. In addition to the electrical failures, the powertrain malfunctions; the vehicle jolts violently upon acceleration, behaving as though the transmission is failing.Safety Risks: These failures create immediate safety hazards. The unexpected transmission jolts cause unpredictable acceleration when merging or stepping on the gas. The loss of forward collision and blind spot warnings leaves me without critical safety buffers, and the constant flashing lights and beeping create a severe driver distraction.Inspection and Diagnosis: The vehicle has been taken to an authorized dealership service center multiple times for these specific issues. However, the service department has refused to properly document the complaints on the repair orders or perform standard diagnostics, falsely claiming the safety sensors are just "dirty" and blaming the transmission behavior on driver habits. The vehicle and its malfunctioning components remain fully available for inspection.Onset: These symptoms first appeared shortly after purchasing the vehicle and have grown progressively worse.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

There are major software issues. The vehicle brakes unexpectedly. It is completely random and extremely dangerous. The satellite radio content is altered with the use of A.I. . It is similar to Deepfake scam. I can scan the network and send logs if needed.

2024 Jeep Compass Geneva, OH

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

I am reporting a severe, life-threatening safety defect involving intermittent "phantom braking" (unwarranted activation of the Automatic Emergency Braking / AEB system) on my 2024 Jeep Compass while driving at highway speeds. On multiple occasions while traveling on the freeway, the vehicle has suddenly and aggressively slammed on the brakes with absolutely no obstacles, vehicles, or hazards in front of it. The vehicle anchors the brakes without warning, causing rapid and dangerous deceleration from 60-70 mph. This has nearly resulted in catastrophic rear-end collisions from vehicles traveling behind me. The issue is highly intermittent and unpredictable. It appears to be a major defect in the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)—specifically the forward-facing camera or radar modules—which are misinterpreting road conditions, shadows, or reflections as an imminent collision threat. We have actively tried to get this resolved through the Classic Jeep, Madison ohio. The vehicle has been brought into the dealership service department several times for this exact occurrence. A corporate safety "SAFE case" was opened CN102930576 , and most recently, the customer service manager test-drove the vehicle for 4 to 5 days. Because the issue is intermittent, they were unable to replicate it during that specific timeframe, found no active error codes in the computer, and performed no repairs. The vehicle was returned to us completely unresolved and remains an active danger to drive. The manufacturer's inability to replicate a highly intermittent software or sensor defect does not negate the severe danger this vehicle poses. Sudden, unprompted hard braking at 65+ mph creates an immediate risk of a multi-car highway accident. I am filing this complaint to urge the NHTSA to investigate 2024 Jeep Compass forward collision warning and AEB systems before this defect causes a serious or fatal crash.

2022 Jeep Compass Elizabeth, PA

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

I am filing a formal safety defect report regarding a severe, non-functional Advanced Passenger/Pedestrian Emergency Braking (PEB) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system that has been completely inoperable ("INOP") since delivery of this brand-new vehicle. The vehicle has been subjected to four (4) independent, consecutive service repair attempts at authorized franchise dealerships with a complete failure to resolve the active safety hazard.Critical Evidence of Manufacturer Negligence: Corporate Techline Admission: On 12/2/24 (3,327 miles), factory technicians performed module updates but noted on the official invoice: "Issue persist. Contact Techline was told update coming." Corporate engineering knowingly discharged a defective vehicle back into public operation without a functioning collision avoidance system.Star Engineering Admission: On 5/15/26 (34,461 miles), following extensive factory hardware resets via the wiTECH diagnostic network and manual sensor/camera recalibrations, the safety defect persisted. Stellantis Corporate Engineering (Star Agent) explicitly ordered the dealership techs to return the malfunctioning vehicle to the consumer because it lacked an active Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC), stating the safety hazard was merely "currently under investigation."Current Grounded Status: On 6/8/26 (approx 36,000 miles), Certified technicians determined an instrument cluster needed ordered and legally "grounded" the vehicle on the dealer lot due to federal odometer rules. The vehicle is currently sidelined awaiting a backordered instrument panel cluster (IPC). Public Safety Impact: Stellantis is willfully ignoring a widespread component or software defect in its integrated digital instrument cluster and forward-facing camera arrays. By ordering dealerships to return vehicles with dead pedestrian emergency braking systems to consumers due to a lack of DTC’s, they are creating an immediate, severe hazard to occupants and pedestrians on public roads

BACK OVER PREVENTION: REARVIEW SYSTEM BRAKING

The rearview backup camera on my 2019 Jeep Compass Latitude has completely failed to function, creating a severe blind-spot safety hazard during reverse maneuvers. Screen goes black, or flickers on and off, or has lines and hotspots. It is not usable at all. This failure directly compromises the safety mandates established under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 111.

Everytime I drive my vehicle all the ADAS lights go off and start dinging. I then reset the ones I can in the vehicle settings and drive to my destination. I shut off the car and when I come back and start it all the lights come back on again. This has been happening since I purchased the vehicle a year ago with under 40000 miles and Jeep didn't help me and refused to fix the issue. I have made multiple complaints to Jeep and my local Jeep dealership and they have been no help.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

Multiple critical safety systems fail intermittently: Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) disables itself randomly while driving, Lane Steering Assist becomes unavailable, frequent ‘Service 4WD’ warnings, and ‘Power Steering System Hot - Performance May Be Limited’ warning. Issues worsened after transfer case replacement on April 27, 2026. Dealership admitted ‘these lights appear all the time… there’s nothing we can do.’ This matches many other 2024/2025 Compass complaints on NHTSA. I no longer feel safe driving the vehicle. The car has also been using a lot more gas since these issues started. I’m not sure what date this started, but the first time (1/3) that I brought it to the dealership was March 20th 2026.
