The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked with the vehicle off and occupied by the contact and her children, the headrest unexpectedly disengaged erroneously. The clips were fractured when the contact looked inside the air bag storage of the headrest. The contact sustained an injury to the back of her head and pain on the right side of the neck. The contact returned to the residence. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. I got into our car one day and the passenger seat headrest active headrest had deployed. We were not in any type of accident or anything to cause this. After looking online on how to fix it, it seems that it is a common problem based on different group forums and videos. Our car is a 2019 and it seems this is a known issue to the vehicle for the model years prior. We are unable to get it back into place. We will need to replace the headrest which is over $600 and there was no reason it even should have deployed.

Headrest on driver's side just "exploded" open while we were just sitting in our driveway. It hit the back of my head and made a very loud sound. It could possibly have caused an accident if we were driving at the time. Local Jeep dealer says this is not covered by an ordered warranty extension although other similar older vehicles with this same issue are covered. Estimated cost of repair by the dealer over $800.

2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee; Manufacture Date October 2018 Vehicle engine off and vehicle in park in the driveway. Came out to the car to get something out of it and found that the passenger side active headrest safety feature had deployed. My car was not involved any type of collision - nothing has hit my car. It just popped out all on its own when no one was in the car and the vehicle wasn’t even turned on. I have seen SEVERAL reports on this problem, and Jeep agreed to extend the warranty on this problem indefinitely but only on year models up to 2018. My vehicle was manufactured in 2018 but the dealer says my vehicle VIN is not included for this warranty. That’s ridiculous! The same exact problem has occurred to my headrest that they cover for everyone else but not my vehicle. Same problem, made in the same year as the other vehicles were made but mine not covered because the vehicle is labeled as a 2019 design. Also, the faulty part is also made of plastic!!

The contact checked under the hood but was unable to locate the source of the burning odor. After stopping and parking the vehicle, the contact was removing items from the rear seat and noticed a large hole and small hole in the seat. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who stated that the failure may be due to a heating element malfunction. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. THE DISPLAY/ELECTRONIC SYSTEM APPEARED TO BE HIJACKED DURING MY COMMUTE TO WORK. THE HACKER BEGAN BY CHANGING THE RADIO FROM SIRIUS XM TO AN AM STATION, THEN BEGAN CHANGING SETTINGS (CLIMATE CONTROL OF SEATS), VIEWED CONNECTED DEVICES (USB, MEDIA ETC.), THEN SWITCHED TO VIEW THE REAR VIEW CAMERA, VIEWED THE COMPASS, VIEWED PHONE SETTINGS AND DIALED THE LAST NUMBER DIALED FROM MY PHONE. THE HACKER KEPT GOING BACK TO SETTINGS, REAR VIEW CAMERA, RADIO AND CLIMATE CONTROL. THIS ALL HAPPENED IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME AND CONTINUED EVEN AFTER I HAD STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND TURNED MY CELL PHONE OFF. I LEFT MY PHONE OFF UNTIL I ARRIVED AT WORK AND THE HACKER WAS STILL MESSING WITH SETTINGS AND RADIO. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND OPENED THE DOOR TO DROP THE DISPLAY AND ALL ELECTRONIC AUXILIARY POWER.

THE LOWER LEATHER DRIVER'S SEAT HAS LOST IT'S BOLSTERING WITHIN ONE YEAR OF PURCHASE. THIS CAUSES THE DRIVER TO LOOSE LOWER SEAT SUPPORT WHICH ALLOWS THE SEATED DRIVER TO LEAN AGAINST THE DOOR WHILE DRIVING.
