While maneuvering in a parking garage and switching between reverse and forward, the engine suddenly and unprompted revved excessively, sounding as though the accelerator pedal was floored. The vehicle forcefully lunged forward against braking pressure into a cement wall, causing front-end damage to the vehicle. Cruise control was completely disabled and no check engine light or warning indicators illuminated on the dashboard. At no time did I feel like I had control over the car. I sustained some contusions. No one was in the vicinity at the time; however, other cars and/or people could have been struck. The vehicle has yet to be examined by anyone although I am in the process of arranging for an autobody repair shop. Prior to this, the car was in its usual state of health without any issues.

I am writing to make you aware of a safety issue that I have encountered with my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. On August 21, 2026, the gas pedal/throttle control just fell off as I was driving myself and infant on a busy three lane thoroughfare in [XXX]. I went to slow down the car by braking, but it was very difficult. I went into an empty bus lane so as not to get rear ended or crash into something. Finally, the car systems ceased. No warning lamps came on ever or any messages. I had no problems with the car prior to this occurring. As I said previously, I had my infant in the car with me at the time and never expected for a gas pedal/throttle to literally fall off. I didn't think that cars would be made for this to ever happen. This could've been a major tragedy. I usually commute to work on major highways with tractor trailers and trucks, but I was off that day luckily. We could have been killed. I had to have a flatbed bring it to a Jeep dealer in Nanuet, NY where they took possession of the car and car part. I did take phots of the part though. I am reporting repeated drivetrain and transmission failures involving my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. The problems began with failure of the driveshaft carrier bearing, which was replaced with a brand-new component by an independent mechanic. The transfer case subsequently required replacement and was replaced with a brand-new unit by a reputable dealership. After these repairs, the original transmission mechanically failed at approximately 99,000 miles. I replaced it with a transmission from a 2021 model that had approximately 45,000 miles. That transmission then failed after only approximately 5,000 miles of use in my vehicle. I am now having another transmission installed, meaning my Jeep is receiving its third transmission. By the completion of these repairs, I will have spent more than $20,000 addressing drivetrain and transmission failures. I am concerned that an underlying drivetrain, transmission, electronic/control, or other vehicle-related condition may be contributing to these repeated failures. Replacing major drivetrain components has not resolved the problem, and I am concerned about the safety and reliability of the vehicle. I am also aware of a similar situation involving my niece’s 2021 Dodge Durango R/T with approximately 60,000 miles. Her vehicle is also on its third transmission, with brand-new replacement transmissions being installed under warranty. I am requesting that NHTSA review these repeated failures and determine whether similar transmission or drivetrain problems have been reported and whether they may indicate a safety-related defect or broader pattern.

The accelerator pedal was depressed and went down to the floorboard. The vehicle was pulled over safely and avoided a crash. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle. The battery power was at 1 percent after driving the vehicle. The local dealer was contacted about the Lemon Law. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, and the contact was informed about the cost of a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. My Son just bought the car from a private party. On our way home the engine light and a lightning bolt icon illuminated on the dash, followed by the vehicle going into limp mode. We had the vehicle scanned for codes and it came back with P0336 (crankshaft position sensor performance). After much investigation online, we found out that this is a known issue with the crankshaft position sensor and, most importantly, the tone wheel on the back of the engine. We looked up recalls on the vehicle and found a safety recall had been issued. While some vehicles affected received replacement of the tone wheel and sensor, others just received a software update. This particular vehicle received the software update. The issue is that the magnetic material on the tone wheel delaminates from the tone wheel. This is a costly repair that should have been fixed correctly from the beginning, not just a software patch. It is a safety concern because it is dangerous when you are traveling at highway speeds and it goes into limp mode.

The contact stated while seated inside the vehicle with his wife, the gear shifter was shifted into drive; however, while depressing the brake pedal the vehicle accelerated independently. The check engine warning light was illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the diagnostic result was unknown. The accelerator pedal was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. Loss of propulsion while driving Yes it is available for inspection upon request Complete and total loss of propulsion/acceleration when pressing on gas pedal while driving and going into a left turn across oncoming traffic; driver and five year old passenger in the vehicle at the time of incident. Safely maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the roadway. Dealership has not been able to recreate the problem. Vehicle has been at dealership service department since May 14, 2026, immediately after incident. Vehicle was able to be driven to dealership after incident. Incident reported to Stellantis May 28, 2026. Stated that the report would be escalated and I would be contacted via email in 1-2 business days. No direct manufacturer inspection at this time, and police/insurance company were not contacted as there was no accident to report. Safety recall 73C in regard to this matter was completed September 26, 2025 according to Stellantis customer service and recall information available for the VIN of this vehicle. No warning lights/messages/symptoms of the problem prior to incident. During incident and after loss of propulsion started, "D" started flashing on the dash console and the gear shift knob, and I was unable to shift out of drive. This is the third time that my jeep has completely shut off with no warning and in the middle of traffic. I am unable to turn on any hazard lights. The power goes completely out, and I am unable to put the car in neutral or anything to be safe. I have reported this issue in the past. The dealership is unable to figure out what is wrong and I keep trying to get this resolved before it turns out tragically. Please help me before I loss my life in this vehicle.

While attempting to park my vehicle, it suddenly accelerated on its own, causing the car to move quickly toward a tree and a nearby building. I immediately attempted to stop the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal, but the car continued to accelerate. The engine was roaring, and I even tried using both feet on the brake pedal in an effort to stop the vehicle, but it did not respond. The only way I was able to stop the vehicle was by turning off the engine. Due to the unexpected acceleration and my concern that it could happen again, the vehicle was not safe to drive. A tow truck was called, and the vehicle was transported to a mechanic for inspection.

When accelerating, the car suddenly jerks and stops moving at a consistent speed. This happened multiple times over the last 8 months or so. Sometimes it happens immediately after backing out of my driveway. It has also happened while driving on a highway at high speeds (65mph) where I've nearly been involved in high speed accidents. There was a recall back in November that claimed this was a software issue, however, it has continued to happen. No warning lights come on.

Despite having the EGR replaced under recall the unit still exploded while driving on wed 4 Mar 2026. Fluids were leaking and had indicated issues with the electric shifter. The local dealerships states the egr cooler needs replaced, coolant tank, DPF and oil change (despite just being done the Saturday before). Refusing to acknowledge any connection to previous recall or associated damages. Contacted FCA customer support and ignored my concerns and said just pay the dealer the $6000+.

Powertrain/engine performance (acceleration control): vehicle struggles to accelerate when pressing the gas. Transmission / drivetrain (gear engagement / shift control): vehicle drops from Reverse into Neutral without driver input (unintended gear disengagement). Water intrusion: ongoing water intrusion, power tailgate was already replaced due to water erosion, when it rains or snows water gets into vehicle resulting in a musty/moldy smell and driver side mat soaking wet. Yes — the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The loss of acceleration / hesitation / jolting creates a risk of being unable to merge, cross intersections, or accelerate in traffic when needed. The unintended shift from Reverse into Neutral can cause loss of intended vehicle control/movement while reversing (driveway/parking lot risk), increasing collision risk with nearby vehicles, pedestrians, or property. Reverse → Neutral: Reported to dealer multiple times; confirmation varies by visit (intermittent concern) Stellantis Customer Retention states they spoke with the service manager and confirmed the repair history and dealer visits, not necessarily a physical engineer inspection.

While driving down the road on the highway, the hood randomly popped open, engaging the emergency breaking system extremely harshly. Then the vehicle was unable to shift back into gear. Reported problem to dealer and no codes shown for the incident. Jeep (FCA/Stelantis) potentially had the system like Volkswagen when it knows it took it up to the diagnostic system to not show codes were an injury or something serious could’ve happened. Warning indicator lights, and all kinds of indicators were going off in the vehicle at the time of incident, but not the very next day from the dealership plugged it into the system.

Multiple times the vehicle will drive very jumpy even if not pressing on the gas or brakes. When accelerating or braking the car will randomly drastically respond to the pedals or barely respond almost making it impossible to stop at times. The inconsistency of breaking and gas power has caused me almost be hit or hit someone else repeatedly.
