Transmission & Drivetrain complaints by model year
I am writing to report a recurring safety issue with my vehicle’s transmission. When attempting to accelerate into traffic, the engine revs high but fails to deliver power to the wheels, acting as if it is in neutral. This failure to shift into gear has occurred several times and poses a significant safety risk. I have maintained the vehicle regularly, including recent fluid changes. My research indicates that this year and model are subject to Recall 16V529000, which specifically addresses the 9-SPD 948TE automatic transmission found in my vehicle. I have no record of this recall being performed on my car.
NHTSA complaint #11727419 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that while shifting from drive(D) to park(P), the vehicle continued to accelerate or reverse unintendedly. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who informed the contact to go to settings and choose brakes, and while parking, the parking brake engaged, but the driver needed to manually release the parking brake. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.

UConnect screen is out. Started glitching but now it is completely black yet the touch part of it is responsive?? Now if only i could remember EXACTLY where everything is located and in what order.. haha. Not. Also I have no backup camera view, not being able to see what temp my ac/heat is at or which mode it is on. What time is it even? How do i turn on the passenger heated seat for my daughter in the mornings and evenings when the temperature outside is below zero? How do i know where my next turn is when i am driving to a destination with my children and this is the first time i have ever seen, much less been on this road? It sucks!! And my android auto is no longer an option... music?? The safety i could put myself and others in by having to look at and use my phone to change songs, artists, podcasts, make a call or change a gps route... not cool! Also the "fog light" running light on my passenger side does not work at times despite having changed the bulb, wiring, even though the fog light works just fine? And i have often felt like my transmission was slipping when accelerating from stop signs or at other times and that is insane considering the vehicle had less that 50k miles at the time. I want to love my Jeep like i once did yet all this has me questioning whether i would even ever purchase another Jeep. I also feel like my front end is loose and there is a wobbling and have had the mechanic check several times. It doesn't sound safe or feel safe. Yet what is truly most important is that i want and need my current Jeep to last me but all these issues kinda scare me to be honest. I want my screen back!!! I want my light to work at all times! I need my transmission to be wonderful!! I don't even have 95k on my Jeep yet!!! I am praying that submitting this report will help out in some ways.

I am driving down the road and the vehicle goes into neutral and the engine turns off. I then have to stop the vehicle and restart it. When I hit the starter button. It sputters and then starts. This has been happening irregularly 1-3 times a week since it started in December of 2025.With last time happening being on 2/16/2026.
NHTSA complaint #11719320 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Driving turned, left in the vehicle paused like the engine paused yesterday and this morning I turned right in my engine stalled out completely turned off. It was hard to get it. Restarted again. I had codes run on it and the battery was fine. It finally started again after

am writing to formally report multiple serious issues with my 2019 Jeep Renegade (VIN: [XXX] ). I take good care of my vehicle, but it has been experiencing rough shifts, lurching and jerking during acceleration, loud noises from the engine or transmission, hesitation, unexpected power loss, and it frequently displays a warning that the license plate light is off. Recently, the car overheated and required a water pump replacement, and since then it emits a burning hose smell. Additionally, the driver’s seat does not lock properly, and the radio often turns off and on by itself. These ongoing problems not only compromise the safety, reliability, and proper functioning of my vehicle but also create a significant financial burden. I am requesting an immediate inspection and resolution, and I would appreciate guidance on the next steps or the earliest available appointment for service. A prompt response is important, as these issues pose a serious safety risk while driving. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

When starting the car and letting it warm up for 2 minutes. The vehicle shifts hard or takes it time to shift into next gear, and while idling for less than 5 minutes, the car warms up 32 degrees. Which I do not believe the fan motor is working properly. Also took car to dealership blown trans and engine mounts.
NHTSA complaint #11689833 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
After I filled up my tank, I drove and turned onto a busy highway. As I was turning, it felt like my car went into neutral. I had to take my foot off of the gas and looked to see if the shifter switched gears, but it was still in drive. After about 10 seconds it shifted into gear. If I did not wait for the road to be clear I could have gotten into a major accident.

Complaint Summary: I brought my 2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk (VIN: [XXX] ) to AutoNation CDJR Roseville on May 17, 2025, for the U90 emissions recall. The catalytic converter was replaced, and the PCM software was updated. However, the U0402 diagnostic trouble code (implausible data received from TCM) remains stored. This code has been persistent and prevents the vehicle from passing California emissions, which is required for my registration as the car was transferred from out-of-state. The service advisor initially stated that the TCM was updated, but later corrected himself and admitted the TCM already had the latest version and was not reprogrammed. I have not been given written confirmation that the TCM software or wiring was verified or addressed. I am concerned the dealership is refusing to properly resolve this under recall and is instead recommending a full transmission replacement without supporting mechanical codes or verifying the emissions system software/communication is compliant. I’m requesting FCA’s assistance, and the BAR in California to enforce the complete and proper execution of the U90 recall and resolution of the U0402 code under recall scope. Please help ensure the vehicle is brought into emissions compliance. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
NHTSA complaint #11664964 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Cracked oil pump housing/balance shaft module (BSM). The checking engine light came on, and the system requested an oil change after only 3k from the last oil change. I brought it to the mechanic, and the oil was refilled, and the checking engine light turned off. The vehicle keeps asking for an oil change. I opened the hood, and oil was splashed all over, leaving oil stains on the inside of the hood, hoses and surrounding surfaces.

Since May 2024, my 2022 Jeep Renegade Sport has developed serious safety-related issues involving the fuel/propulsion system, power train, and electrical systems. Specific incidents include: Strong fuel vapor odor detected both inside and outside the vehicle, even when parked, raising inhalation and ignition hazard concerns. Initial diagnosis of leaking transmission fluid under the vehicle (later reclassified as engine oil), with ongoing erratic shifting, severe throttle lag, and violent shaking at highway speeds. Electrical system failures including odometer flashing, GPS malfunctions, and false collision warning system alerts. The vehicle has been inspected multiple times by an authorized dealership. No lasting repairs were made, and the manufacturer (FCA US LLC / Stellantis) denied multiple repurchase or replacement requests, despite safety concerns. Safety risks include potential inhalation of toxic vapors, engine or transmission failure while driving, and reduced control during expressway driving. These conditions have left the vehicle unsafe and inoperable. I have fully stopped operating the vehicle as of early 2025 due to the serious public and personal safety risks. Warning lights, throttle failure, and other symptoms began appearing around May–June 2024. I have already filed complaints with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and the Better Business Bureau. I am currently including selected service records and manufacturer denial letters as initial supporting documents. If needed, I can also provide additional documentation upon request, including towing receipts, external repair assessments, and Ring camera footage screenshots showing vehicle immobility. If needed for record consistency, I can also provide legal name change documentation upon request.

I was driving in traffic and it was bumper to bumper. I had to keep going into first, move a little then stop for several miles. Coming out of the [XXX], heading up the hill, I started to smell burning, the clutch then pinned to the floor and I was stuck in first gear, and the vehicle shut off, not overheating warning, nothing. I was able to start the vehicle after a few moments and then got it t the shoulder, had it towed and I was told the clutch pressure plate was fractured and a whole new transmission would need installed if the flywheel isn't damaged. It wont be serviced until March 28th or 29th and then I will know if a $2500 dollar fix turns into a $5000.00 dollar fix. 54 thousand miles on this and it drove fine in traffic like this before and had no issues with it shifting or anything until this day. They say there is a recall on the Renegade specifically NHTSA20V-124 involving renegades with 6 speed manual transmissions. I couldn't get any help from Chrysler, the recall information center but this information is out on the web. Next is lemon law attorney. my grandfather has own he renegade since it came out in 2017. it has had nothing but issues most of which as his granddaughter i had fixed. but the last at least year I've had his vehicle illuminate a check engine light. Especially in very wet weather, cold or hot weather. If it's a normal 65-degree days for a few days, it will go off. it's a very intermittent light. that you have to catch. Taken to AutoZone, dealership, etc. It's a P0420 code which is failed catalytic converter. called and spoke to Stellantis, Mopar customer service multiple times. it's not an issue they refuse to acknowledge. also pricing for a catalytic converter isn't possible. because the only available ones are on back order hard.

After purchasing a new battery due to multiple issues with a drained battery, when trying to jump the new battery the jeep would not take a jump. The lights came on and indicated multiple issues and the steering wheel became immovable. The jeep will not start and each time if left hooked up will drain fully charged battery.

The jerking, delayed take off reported originally that was supposedly corrected with a motor replacement STILL happens. Spoken with multiple other Renegade drivers and tow truck drivers, the transmission appears to be the issue. Each recorded visit to the dealership has reported transmission ok. My safety is my absolute #1 concern. Want transmission checked, rechecked, repaired, replaced or whatever makes my driving life safe as possible.
NHTSA complaint #11646162 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
My Jeep has stalled while driving 3 times. It has been happening about once each year. The center console no long works. The screen just turned off one day and has never turned back on. Now it will not start. At first the dash turned on with all lights, would not start would not turn off break locked. Then the dash started flashing and the slowly diming until it no longer work. Then the RPM and MPH startes going up and down then the car died off. There is a recall for Jeep renegade that seems to reflect what it happening but the vin search states no recalls. I now only now don't have a car that I'm still paying on but someone could have been hurt. When this initially started I did check for recalls, and as I just did again. I can't get it anywhere to be looked at.
