'Hood Open' Warning on Dash: message on the instrument cluster, even when the hood is securely closed. Alarm Randomly Triggering: A faulty hood latch switch can also trick the vehicle's security system into thinking the hood is being opened, causing the alarm to go off unexpectedly, often in the middle of the night. Hood Wobbles or Flutters at Speed: If one or both latches are not fully engaged, airflow at highway speeds can cause the hood to lift and wobble. Hood Won't Latch on One or Both Sides:You may find the hood bounces back up after you try to close it. Went to Land Rover dealership in Norwood, Massachusetts. They’re saying service action is VIN SPECIFIC MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED. Called manufacturer was told to reach out to NHTSA to update with my vehicle VIN.

NHTSA Vehicle Safety Complaint Narrative I am submitting this complaint to report what I believe is a safety-related defect involving the power liftgate on my 2026 Range Rover Sport. Prior to the incident described below, the vehicle’s power liftgate had unexpectedly opened on two separate occasions after it had been closed. Although those earlier events did not result in damage, they caused concern because the liftgate opened without my intentionally activating it. On July 2, 2026, while exiting my parking space in my condominium garage, I closed the liftgate, entered the vehicle, and began driving forward. Without any intentional activation by me, the power liftgate suddenly opened while the vehicle was moving. The liftgate struck a low overhead pipe/obstruction in the garage, causing significant damage to the liftgate, rear tail lamp, and related components. At the time of the incident: * I was driving forward, not reversing. * I did not intentionally press the liftgate button, key fob, or use any gesture activation feature. * The second key fob was inside my residence and not in the vehicle. * The incident occurred in the morning, before my family departed for a trip to Washington, D.C. I reported the incident to the Land Rover dealership and Land Rover North America. An engineering review later concluded that the vehicle “may have been reversing” and referenced a timestamp that I believe is inconsistent with when the incident actually occurred. I have requested written explanations regarding these discrepancies, including the basis for the conclusion that the vehicle may have been reversing and whether the two previous unexpected liftgate opening events were considered during the investigation. To date, I have not received satisfactory written answers to those questions. My concern extends beyond the damage to my vehicle. A power liftgate opening unexpectedly while a vehicle is in motion presents a potential safety hazard.

The panoramic sunroof is cracked in several places impacting only the front half of the sunroof. There is not indication of a point of impact that would have caused the cracks. The vehicle is garage kept and has been driven minimally this summer. The were noticed on Saturday, July 18th when I opened the retractable interior roof. My safety is at risk because of the potential for the glass to fall from the roof while I'm driving. The panoramic sunroof has not been inspected by any one other than myself and my husband. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. There is no warning or indication that the panoramic sunroof is cracked.

Safety Complaint Regarding Coolant Leak – Same Defect as Recall N785 Vehicle: 2019 Range Rover Sport | VIN: [XXX] Description of Problem: My vehicle is experiencing a persistent and significant coolant loss. Upon inspection by my mechanic/dealer, the failure was diagnosed as a leaking coolant pipe/elbow connected to the turbocharger system. This is the exact component and failure mode described in Land Rover Safety Recall N785, which addresses a coolant elbow rupture that can leak fluid onto hot engine components and cause an engine fire. Despite having the identical part failure on my vehicle, my VIN is not listed under the current recall scope. Safety Concern: I am extremely concerned about the fire risk and the potential for sudden engine overheating while driving at highway speeds. I have already had to repeatedly refill the coolant just to operate the vehicle safely. I believe the recall population should be expanded to include my vehicle, as the defect clearly exists outside the current VIN range. Actions Taken: I contacted a Land Rover dealer, but they refused to cover the repair because my VIN is not on the active recall list. Upon inspection by my mechanic/dealer, the failure was diagnosed as a blocked or improperly machined oil channel in the engine cam carrier, which is causing oil to leak externally. This is the exact component and failure mode described in Land Rover Safety Recall N763 (NHTSA Campaign 23V044000), which addresses a blocked engine cam carrier oil channel that can lead to an oil leak. I am filing a safety complaint regarding a defective diesel emissions system and persistent warning condition in my 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Diesel vehicle that presents a serious safety hazard to myself and others. The vehicle was purchased from Ewing Buick GMC in Plano, Texas, [XXX] and was advertised as being in good condition and ready for sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle appeared to have undergone preparation and inspection-related services, which gave the impression that it was safe and roadworthy. Dealer informed me of no inspection being performed. Shortly after purchase, the vehicle began displaying persistent emissions-related warnings (DEF system / engine warning). I initially had the vehicle inspected, and serviced for repairs by Royse City Auto Care, where diagnostic information indicated emissions-related faults. Due to the seriousness of the issue, the vehicle was then taken to an authorized Land Rover service center for further diagnosis. Land Rover technicians indicated that potential causes may include a knock sensor or related module failure; however, they stated that these repairs are not guaranteed to resolve the issue. The warning condition remains active and unresolved. The vehicle now presents a critical safety concern. The emissions system warning includes a mileage countdown that will eventually prevent the vehicle from being driven once it reaches zero. This creates a dangerous situation where I may be unable to operate the vehicle at all, potentially leaving me stranded in unsafe conditions. Additionally, the vehicle may enter reduced power mode (limp mode) or experience loss of power while driving. These conditions significantly increase the risk of an accident, especially on highways or in traffic. As a result, my safety and the safety of others on the road are put at risk. Vehicle: 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Sport HSE While driving approximately 65-70 mph, a red battery/charging warning appeared instructing me to pull over immediately. Within approximately 3-5 minutes, the vehicle rapidly lost electrical power and became completely disabled while driving. EVERYTHING in my car started shutting down; no air, no lights, no steering. Steering and vehicle functions became inoperable and the vehicle required towing. The repair facility diagnosed a charging-system malfunction. Diagnostic notes stated the alternator was only producing approximately 11.2 volts and was not charging the battery. The repair facility also documented that the alternator was saturated in engine oil due to leaking valve covers and oil filter housing components. Repairs included replacement of the alternator, valve covers, oil filter housing, gaskets, coolant-related components, and associated labor under Land Rover repair procedures. I am submitting this complaint because the sudden loss of electrical power while driving at highway speed created a serious safety concern. The only thing that saved me for an accident is the high speed I was traveling coasted my car to the exit as an 18-wheeler truck was on the side and behind me.

2023 Range Rover Sport (VIN: [XXX] ). Vehicle's own anti-theft security system simultaneously deactivated both smart keys after they were left inside the locked vehicle. This is a known design defect across all JLR vehicles from 2022 onwards. Vehicle is now completely inoperable. Dealer is quoting $3,000 for a new Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM) and two new keys. Owner was never warned at purchase that this could occur. This leaves owners completely stranded with no fix available without paying thousands of dollars. Vehicle experienced sudden and complete shutdown while driving immediately after crossing railroad tracks. Dashboard warning displayed “battery failure.” Vehicle would not restart and would not shift into neutral, leaving it immobilized in traffic. Police department called and traffic was managed by 2 police officers. Vehicle was stuck on roadway and required manual override procedure (unknown to owner) to shift into neutral before being pushed off roadway. Vehicle was towed 250 miles. Dealership has indicated hybrid battery/system failure and ordered replacement battery. Concern: Sudden total loss of propulsion and inability to shift into neutral creates serious roadway safety hazard. If this had occurred seconds earlier, vehicle could have been immobilized directly on railroad tracks. Request investigation into hybrid battery/system failures causing sudden total shutdown without safe-mode capability.

Vehicle: 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged (VIN: [XXX] ) Recall Campaign: N623 / NHTSA 21V635 Incident Description: In October 2025 I had a recall repair done at Land Rover Annapolis. I picked up my vehicle from Land Rover Annapolis after the N623 Fuel Outlet Flange Recall was performed. Immediately after service, while driving in a live lane of traffic, the vehicle unexpectedly stalled, resulting in a complete loss of motive power. The dashboard fuel gauge falsely indicated 55 miles of remaining range, but the vehicle had actually run out of fuel. This indicates that the fuel sending unit/float assembly was improperly reinstalled or damaged during the recall service, creating a secondary safety defect. I figured it would calibrate and fix itself. When the dealer reached out after my service appointment I made them aware of the issue. No one contacted me. I contacted Land Rover corporate when it continued to happen and was told to bring it back to the certified repair location. The dealership took 16 mins to look at my vehicle and deem the engine bad. Give a ballpark quote of 20000 to 30000 dollars to replace the engine. Despite this life-safety event, the dealership refused to pull stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and is attempting to deflect liability by blaming a pre-existing minor coolant leak that never triggered an overheat warning. I am reporting a failure of the recall remedy and requesting an investigation into the dealership's refusal to diagnose consequential damage (High-Pressure Fuel Pump failure) caused by the botched safety When I brought up the fact that they should have diagnosed the codes already he offered to have them run it for free tomorrow like he was doing me some kind of favor. When I said did I disagreed with the findings based on the fact that there was no evidence of it being the engine overheating due to cool it he replied that maybe I needed a second opinion and it needed to be off of their lot by Friday. The fuel tank shields are disintegrating due to rust buildup because of poor quality materials. this is a very concerning issue since on these Range Rovers the fuel tank shields actually support the fuel tank. my biggest concern would be for the fuel tank to eject itself and cause a major incident. Range Rover is aware of this situation as it is happening on a lot of these models.

On 17th of January, 2026, the backseat door, behind Driver's seat, failed and continues to fail to close and/or latch shut due to door/keyless latching mechanism/system. Upon returning home and looking up online what could be the cause and how to remedy I found Land Rover Recall P068, which states: NOTIFICATION OF SAFETY RECALL P068: VEHICLE DOOR MAY NOT LATCH, SERVICE BULLETIN. 16-JUN-15 NO.: SRE15-12 SECTION: RECALL MARKET: USA: A concern has been identified on 2014-2016 model year Range Rover Sport (L494) and 2013-2016 model year Range Rover (L405) vehicles where customers have reported the door is unlatched when in the closed position and no indication provided of a of an unlatched condition. Some customers have reported that one door has opened while the vehicle was in motion. No notification was ever received for this recall. I contacted the Van Nuys Land Rover dealership that same week and was informed they would not remedy and no recall existed.

There are two primary complaints on the vehicle since it was lease on May 26, 2025. (1) Clunking metal on metal sound when the vehicle is in reverse as well as sharp right or left turn or general braking. The sound is most audible on the rear right side of the vehicle. This matter was reported > 3 times to the Freeport Landover Dealership; the last visit was in October 2025. During the visit the Techs claim not to hear any noise and the issue persists, even at time of this complaint. The vehicle has about 5,100 miles and has been in for service, since June11, 2025, July 2025, August 2025 and was held there until Sept. 30, 2025. (2) Reported brake issues as of June 2025, within 1 week of having the vehicle. September 2025, after two previous visits and the vehicle being held from 8/29/2025 through September 30, 2025, the front brakes were changed and again the squeaky brake issues is still happening every time it rains or snows or I get a car wash. It is evident this vehicle has defects since manufacturing. I had for 4.5 years, the Range Rover 2020 Evogue, which I traded in for this Range Rover Sport and had ZERO mechanical issues.

A potential concern has been identified on specific vehicles within the above vehicle range. A concern has been identified on Ingenium I4 2.0L Petrol Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) engines where the coolant pump drive belt can become damaged leading to detachment or destruction. Where coolant pump drive is lost, this leads to a loss of coolant flow in the engine. The lack of coolant flow can cause the engine to rapidly overheat, and subsequently ruptures an engine mounted plastic elbow in the cooling circuit. If the coolant elbow is ruptured this leads to a coolant leak onto the turbocharger heatshield which may lead to a fire in the engine compartment which can propagate to the whole vehicle. 9/23/2025 After multiple trips to the dealership, the issues with my vehicle continue to persist. Here is the breakdown of my current issues with my vehicle: 1. Brakepad warning light (was informed that it is not covered under warranty even though I only have less than 13K miles) 2. After two attempts to fix the window seal issue, the issue still persists 3. The navigation screen on my driver console doesn’t display when in CarPlay mode 4. The backseat center console doesn’t close properly, so the dealership ordered the part almost two months ago, and it still has not arrived. 10/7/2025 (update) I wanted to inform you that I was quoted $3,347.01 for rear brake pads and rotors for my vehicle, which has less than 13,500 miles. I’m quite shocked because I was told that this isn’t covered under warranty and that I’m responsible for the cost. I’ve owned or leased at least five Range Rover sports in the past, and I’ve never experienced such rapid wear and tear. Additionally, the dealership acknowledged the window sealing issue for the third time and informed me that it’s now resolved after making some “adjustments.” However, I’m still puzzled because they didn’t order any replacement parts, and this is the third time I’ve taken my car in for the same issue.
