5/9/2021 The SRS dashboard light came on with a bell warning. Bell quits after a short time but the light stays on solid. When turning ignition on, light and bell comes on, blinks 3 times, does this 6 times and then stays on solid. When driving hear bell for 5 times, this repeats later for a total of 5 times. After turning the ignition switch on/off I hear a sound from under the driver or passenger seat. The passenger side air bag light does light. I bought this car new.

The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that on numerous occasions while the vehicle was started, the driver’s side air bag warning light intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a driver’s air bag pretensioner fault and that the seat belt pretensioner needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,842.
NHTSA complaint #11487986 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
Passenger seat belt pre-tensioner has malfunctioned. Air bag check light flashing code 34. My mechanic informs me the entire SRS will not function in a crash. He was informed by Ford that a replacement part is no longer available. The vehicle mileage is around 43,000. No rust and no collision damage. With the numerous complaints about this same problem why hasn't a safety recall be issued? Why hasn't Ford been required to stock replacement parts for a longer time?

The contact owns a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an electrical glitch on the instrument cluster. Additionally, the battery was drained. The contact self-diagnosed the vehicle with a code reader and retrieved DTC - B1869 related to the airbags. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 00V270000 (Air Bags) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE AND DRIVING FOR 2 MINUTES, THE AIR BAGS AND SEAT BELTS WARNING LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE WITH AN AUDIBLE BEEP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RON TIRAPELLI FORD, INC. (4355 W JEFFERSON ST, SHOREWOOD, IL 60404) AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS NOT IN STOCK, SINCE THERE WAS NO RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALER UNREPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
NHTSA complaint #11405633 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
AIRBAG FAULT CODE 34. PASSENGER SIDE SEATBELT PRETENSIONS CIRCUIT RESISTANCE OUTSIDE LIMITS. CIRCUIT WAS DAMAGED BY STATIC DISCHARGE FROM HUMAN TO OUTSIDE OF DOOR. VEHICLE WAS PARKED DURING BOTH INCIDENTS. NO ACCIDENT. NO DETONATION OF EXPLOSIVE CHARGE. SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED 2 YEARS AGO ON DRIVER SIDE WITH CODE 33. NUMEROUS REPORTS FROM OTHER CONSUMERS. PLEASE INQUIRE TO REPAIR FACILITY 'SAFETYRESTORE DOTCOM' FOR NUMBER OF THESE FAILURES. AIRBAGS ARE INOP WHEN FAULT OCCURS. NEED SHIELDED CIRCUIT TO PREVENT REOCCURRENCE.
NHTSA complaint #11365532 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND HAS A DINGING NOISE THAT GOES THROUGH A CYCLE OF DINGING 5 TIMES THEN HAS BREAK OF APPROXIMATELY 15 MIN THEN DOES IT AGAIN. HAS NOT BEEN IN ACCIDENT AND SHOWS NO SIGN OF PROBLEM WITH ACTUAL PARTS.
NHTSA complaint #11300608 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND BLINKS CODE 3 3 THEN DINGS AN ALARM 5 DINGS X 5 TIMES EVERY 30 MINUTES, LIGHT STAYS ON. I UNDERSTAND CODE 33 OR 34 ARE SEAT BELT PRETENTIONERS THAT ARE KNOWN TO FAIL ON MID 2000'S FORD VEHICLES. MINE IS 2006 GRAND MARQUIS. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN MATERIALS CAUSING A SAFTEY CONCERN FOR MYSELF AND PASSENGERS. THE AIR BAG SYSTEM IS DISABLED UNTIL REPAIRED AND THE REPAIR IS VERY EXPENSIVE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND IT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED AS A DRIVER SIDE PRETENTIONER HIGH RESISTANCE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC SUGGESTED THEY REPLACE BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SINCE THE PASSENGER SIDE WILL MOST LIKELY ALSO FAIL SOON ACCORDING TO HIS EXPERIANCE. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED TO HAVE PRETENSIONERS REPLACED SINCE IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT AND SAFETY HAZARD CAUSED BY FORD PARTS.
NHTSA complaint #11277959 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE DRIVER SIDE STAYS ON AND SOMETIMES BLINKS. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 21,523 MILES ON IT. I'M TOLD THIS IS AN INDICATION OF A MALFUNCTIONING AIR BAG OPERATION. HAS A RECALL BEEN ISSUED ON THIS MALFUNCTION. THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY AND MOVING. THIS HAS CREATED A FEAR OF THE AIR BAG NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. THE REPAIR FOR IT IS UNKNOWN TO ME.
NHTSA complaint #11255667 — an unverified report by a vehicle owner.
TAMARA I JUST LOVE THIS CAR. I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY HAVE TO MAKE CHEAPER CARS AN SMALLER TRUNKS. ANY WAY ON DRIVER SIDE THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON. AN AS I'M TRYING TO GET SOMEWHERE. THAN THE BEEPING NOISE STARTS UP RANDOMLY AN IT CAN GET ON YOUR NERVES. BUT IF I TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIPS I CAN'T AFFORD THEIR PRICES. THANKYOU. OH I LOVE HOW BIG THE TRUNK IS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION IN A PARKING AREA, THE DRIVER'S, FRONT PASSENGER, AND STEERING WHEEL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITH FORCE. THE DEPLOYMENT OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING OR AN IMPACT AND A GRAYISH BLUE SUBSTANCE ENTERED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE IMPACTED THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY. THE DRIVER WAS SHAKEN, BUT WAS NOT INJURED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WANTED TO CONDUCT A COLLISION REPORT AND HAD NOT YET INVESTIGATED THE CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. BILL KNIGHT FORD (9607 S MEMORIAL DR, TULSA, OK 74133, (918) 526-2400) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT HAD NOT YET SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO DIAGNOSE THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND HAD NOT ISSUED ANY AIR BAG RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
